Unfortunately this technology has been relegated in a niche market due to several factors such as proprietary standards, high price tag, limited integration with existing telephony environments. However in the last couple of years the situation changed dramatically since some open source tools such as asterisk as well as low-cost VoIP telephone adapters and services become available. In fact, today it is quite common for internet providers to provide their customers VoIP calls at very low cost, if any, in addition to standard xDSL connectivity. The VoIP uses Internet protocol (IP) to send digitized voice traffic over the Internet or private networks. An IP packet consists of a train of digits containing a control header and a data payload. The header provides network navigation information for the packet, and the payload contains the compressed voice data. While circuit-switched telephony deals with the entire message, VoIP-based data transmission is

and on testing it. Like Ikea, the Swedish furniture chain, that advertised in its catalogs with production quality and gave examples on how a couch was tested on sturdiness. In survey statistics the main focus has been on accuracy, on reducing the mean squared error or MSE. This is based on the Hansen and Hurwitz model (Hansen, Hurwitz, & Madow, 1953; Hansen, Hurwitz, & Bershad, 1961) that differentiates between random error and systematic bias, and offers a concept of total error (see also Kish, 1965), which is still the basis of current survey error models. The statistical quality indicator is thus the MSE: the sum of all squared variable errors and all squared systematic errors. A more modern approach is total quality, which combines both ideas as Biemer and Lyberg (2003) do in their handbook on survey quality. They apply the concept of fitness for use to the

Text Adaptor: Technology to Support English Language Learners Authentic texts for the classroom that are grade-level appropriate and accessible to English language learners are often unavailable, especially in middle school and high school. As a result, the time-consuming practice of manual text adaptation has become a required task for both ESL and content-area teachers. Research suggests that certain kinds of text modifications, specifically vocabulary expansion and elaboration (i.e., providing synonyms and native language cognates) can facilitate students' comprehension of content in a text. Text Adaptor, a web-based tool, was designed as an authoring tool to support K- 12 teachers in the text adaptation practice. While we continue to develop the tool, it

Boolean Functions and their Cryptographic Criteria

These topics are covered shortly, introducing the main points and giving their most important properties. Thus the paper contains many definitions and properties, while only giving proofs to some of them. The result is a concise material, covering the generalities of Boolean functions and their properties relevant in cryptography. 3 2. Boolean functions and their representations In the following chapters the vector space of all binary vectors of length n will be denoted as 𝔽𝑛2 . For two vectors 𝑎 = (𝑎1 , … , 𝑎 𝑛 ) and 𝑏 = (𝑏1 , … , 𝑏𝑛 ) in 𝔽𝑛2 we define the scalar product < 𝑎, 𝑏 > = 𝑎 1 𝑏1 ⊕ …⊕ 𝑎 𝑛 𝑏𝑛 , where all the operations are over a finite field with two elements 𝔽2 . The logical negation (or complement) of a Boolean function 𝑓 is 𝑓 = 𝑓 ⊕ 1 . Definition 2.1

Inglise keele kodulugemine teemal: Mass Media

Internet has opened up several new opportunities for mass communication which include email, websites, blogging, Internet tv and many other mass media which are booming today. History and Origin of Mass Media History of mass media can be traced back to the early days of dramas that were performed in various cultures. However, the term Mass Media originated with the print media that was also its first example. The first newspaper was printed in China 868 A.D, but due to the high cost of paper and illiteracy amongst people, it didn't prosper. Regarding the origin of the Mass Media, Europe can boast to be the primary source. It was Johannes Gutenberg, who for the first time printed a book in a printing press in 1453. Gradually, during the period post-Second World War, radio, television and video were introduced. The audio-visual facilities became very popular as they provided information and entertainment. Of late, it is the Internet which has become the latest

All about High Tech

High tech is often viewed as high risk, but offering the opportunity for high profits. Like Big Science, high technology is an international phenomenon, spanning continents, epitomized by the worldwide communication of the Internet. Thus a multinational corporation might work on a project 24 hours a day, with teams waking and working with the advance of the sun across the globe; such projects might be in software development or in the development of an integrated circuit. The help desks of a multinational corporation might thus employ, successively, teams in Kenya, Brazil, the Philippines, or India, with the only requirement fluency in the mother tongue, be it Spanish, Portuguese or English. OECD has two different approaches: sector and product (industry) approaches. High-tech sectors The sector approach classifies industries according their technology intensity, product approach according to finished products. · Aerospace technology · Biotechnology

to measuring the inputs or generating the outputs. This in turn drives other parts of the design, such as allowable noise and the precision that is required of the components. A simple microprocessor-based system might read an analog input voltage and convert it to a digital value (how this happens will be examined in Chapter 2, “Digital-to-Analog Converters”). Dynamic range is usually expressed in db because it is usually a measurement of relative power or voltage. However, this does not cover all the things that a microprocessor-based system might want to measure. In simplest terms, the dynamic range can be thought of as the largest value that must be measured compared to (or divided by) the small- est. In most cases, the essential number that needs to be known is the number of bits of precision required to measure or control something. As an example, say that we want to measure temperatures between 0°C and 100°C. If we want to measure with 1°C accuracy, we would need 100

Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis 2019

Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis Kristjan Rannaäär Veterinary medicine, 2. year, 2. group Abstract Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) is a highly contagious ocular disease and big problem in cattle farms worldwide. It is the most common ocular disease of cattle caused by bacteria Moraxella bovis. This study focuses on IBK despite having low mortality rate and complete recovery, it causes significant loss of productivity in the herds affected due to the costs of treatment and considerable impact on afflicted animals, including blindness. This research is focused on the details, such as risk factors, pathogenesis, etiology, clinical signs prevention, transmission, and treatment, which animal handlers should be aware of to minimize the harm caused by IBK. Vaccination does not ensure lifelong immunity and not prevent a primary and reinfection of the cattle. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the cattle in a healthy body condition to assure a high immunity level,

Railgun

A railgun is an electrically powered electromagnetic projectile launcher and a large electric circuit, made up of three parts: a power source, a pair of parallel rails and a moving armature. Along the pair of parallel conducting rails a sliding armature is accelerated by the electromagnetic effects of a current that flows down one rail, into the armature and then back along the other rail. Railguns have long existed as experimental technology but the mass, size and cost of the required power supplies have prevented railguns from becoming practical military weapons. However, in recent years, significant efforts have been made towards their development as feasible military technology. For example, in the late 2000s, the U.S. Navy tested a railgun that accelerates a 3.2 kg projectile to hypersonic velocities of approximately 2.4 kilometres per second, which is about Mach 7.

Then they looked away and tried to construct the same placement of the pieces on an empty board. This was tried many times with different arrangements. When the pieces were arranged in meaningful positions that might actually occur in game situations, the expert typically recalled about 16 pieces, intermediate about 8 and the novice only 4. But when the arrangement was random, each player remembered only 2 or 3 pieces. The concepts of schemas and chunking can explain that. When the pieces were arranged logically then the experts could apply well-developed schemas to recognize patterns or group pieces together (e.g. all pieces attacking the king). The intermediate and novice did not have so well developed schemas. If the pieces were in random order they were no more meaningful for the expert so he/she had to approach the task on a piece-by-piece basis just as

metastases. CT scan is the more sensitive modality due to superior contrast resolution and diminished anatomic superimposition.[3,4] CT may be less specific though, since it detects more lesions, many of which may be nonneoplastic. It would make sense to use CT scan as a screening test. However, it is less readily available, more expensive, and requires general anesthesia, which increases risk to the patient and cost to the owner. Therefore, radiographs are still more commonly used. However, situations exist where CT scan should be strongly considered. For example, prior to thoracotomy for pulmonary mass excision, CT scan should be recommended to better characterize lymph node size and determine the presence of smaller lesions, since both findings strongly affect prognosis.[5] In general, less expensive, less invasive, and less risky tests are offered first, although owners

industry and firm to firm. Unlike commercial manufacturing supplies, services such as clinical supplies planning are very dynamic and can often have last minute changes. Availability of patient kit when patient arrives at investigator site is very important for clinical trial success. This results in overproduction of drug products to take care of last minute change in demand. R&D manufacturing is very expensive and overproduction of patient kits adds significant cost to the total cost of clinical trials. An integrated supply chain can reduce the overproduction of drug products by efficient demand management, planning, and inventory management. Traditionally, marketing, distribution, planning, manufacturing, and the purchasing organizations along the supply chain operated independently. These organizations have their own objectives and these are often conflicting. Marketing's objective of high customer service and maximum sales dollars

How to write a Design Report

They should be based on a customer need. For example, “supports 80 lbs” and “has an emissivity greater than 0.8” are concrete, testable requirements. “Looks nice, ” “comfortable, ” and “low cost” are user needs and not design requirements. Refine them to measurable criteria, like “aesthetically rated above average on a 5 point Likert scale” or “can be held for 5 minutes without fatiguing the average user’s hand,” Or “parts cost less than $20 in lots of 100.” Provide numeric values for all requirements. Numeric values can be binary for requirements that are best expressed in true/false form. The reason for having numeric values is that then it is easy to determine whether the design meets the requirements when the design is evaluated. Often it is helpful to present the key requirements, typically no more than six, in a table. The
