Durability of concrete In this presentation I'm focusing on the durability of concrete. First I'll give a brief overview of concrete, we have to know what does it actually means and where is it used? (slide) Basically concrete is a construction material composed of cement, aggregate (generally gravel, limestone, or granite, plus a fine aggregate such as sand) also water, and chemical admixtures.(slide) Concrete is used to make pavements, architectural structures, foundations, roads, bridges, marine- and parking structures, brick/block walls and footings for gates, fences and so forth. Mainly it is used because of its high durability and availability, but also because it is cheaper than to use wood for example. Concrete is used more than any other man-made material in the world.(slide) Moving on, the durability of concrete can be defined as the ability to remain serviceable for at least the required lifetime of the structure of which it forms apart

Clay Bricks

Moving on, What is clay? (slide 4) Clay is fine-grained, firm earthy material that is plastic when wet and hardens when heated. Clay minerals are size of (point zero one mm)0,01mm. It is consisting primarily of hydrated silicates of aluminum and widely used in making bricks, tiles, and pottery. Clay minerals are typically formed over long periods of time by the gradual chemical weathering of rocks, by low concentrations of carbonic acid and other solvents. These solvents, usually acidic, migrate through the weathering rock after leaching through upper weathered layers. In addition to the weathering process, some clay minerals are formed by hydrothermal activity. Clay deposits may be formed in place as remainder deposits in soil, but thick deposits usually are formed as the result of a secondary sedimentary deposing process. Clay deposits are typically associated with very low energy depositional environments such as large lakes and marine basins. (slide 5)

A more complex form of the girder is the cantilever, where trussed and anchored ends of the girder support a central span. They were favoured for deep gorges or wide fast-flowing streams where false work, a temporary structure, usually of timber, erected to assist in the construc- tion of the permanent bridge, is impossible to build. The three principal types - beam, arch, and suspension - often were combined in a variety of ways to form composite structures, the type selected depending on the nature of the crossing, the span required, the materials at hand, and the type of load anticipated - pedestrian, vehicular, railroad, or a channel of water as in aqueducts. Primitive bridges Other than the clapper bridges of England and similar spans surviving in other countries, bridges dating from prehistoric periods are rare. PETROLEUM

Tallinn 2013 Ott Speek Subject: English Geodesy Study group: GI-21b PETROLEUM PRESENTATION Petroleum (L. petroleum, from Greek: Πέτρα (rock) + Latin: oleum (oil) is a naturally occurring flammable liquid consisting of a complex mixture of hydrocarbons of various molecular weights and other liquid organic compounds, that are found in geologic formations beneath the Earth's surface. The name Petroleum covers both naturally occurring unprocessed crude oils and petroleum products that are made up of refined crude oil. A fossil fuel, it is formed when large quantities of dead organisms, usually zooplankton and algae, are buried underneath sedimentary rock and undergo intense heat and pressure. Petroleum is recovered mostly through oil drilling. This comes after the studies of

Wind resource development may compete with other uses for the land and those alternative uses may be more highly valued than electricity generation. Although wind power plants have relatively little impact on the environment compared to other conventional power plants, there is some concern over the noise produced by the rotor blades, aesthetic (visual) impacts, and sometimes birds have been killed by flying into the rotors. Most of these problems have been resolved or greatly reduced through technological development or by properly siting wind plants. The Benefits of 20% Wind Energy by 2030 According to the American Wind Energy Association, if we increase our nation's wind energy capacity to 20% by 2030, it would... YOU WILL SEE: A lens has one or more curved surfaces that refract or bend, light rays passing through it to form an image on a surface beyond the lens. Examples of such surfaces are the retina of the eye or a movie screen. The distance from the lens to the focal plane is known as focal length. In cameras, telescopes, and similar devices, the lens is turned on a screw-thread mounting to adjust the focal length. This action allows focusing of images of objects at various distances. In the human eye, focal length is adjusted by muscles that alter the lens curvature

There has also been no progress in reducing the burden posed by excessive pension expenditures on the budget--now and especially in the future. Debt builds 10 Compounding this was the financial crisis that rocked the international economic system in 20072008. Ukraine's lack of sound domestic economic structures and debt accumulation made it especially difficult for the country to weather the financial storm. Gross reserves have grown from less than a month's imports to around five months' worth from 2005 to 2010, still a modest level. Public and private foreign debt has recently risen fast from more than $10 billion in 19972002 to over $100 billion in 20082009. The 2008 level was 56.4 percent of GDP and 118.7 percent of exports.

That is more than forty years ago. Unfortunately, the promise of independence has not been fulfilled. Today, Africa has become more desolate; there is more starvation, diseases and non-provision of essential services than when we got our independence. There are all kinds of wars in Africa than the rest of world put together. The majority of so-called Africans leaders want to stay in power until the day their bodies are put in the grave. Through buffoonery, utter mismanagement and downright stealing of the wealth of the masses, these leaders have so impoverished Africa that we are now nothing but a beggar continent. We beg for everything; we are more dependent on our colonial masters than when we received our independence from them. Africa owes the West more money than we and our generations to come can pay. particular message. Codewords or codenumbers can be subjected to transposition or substitution just like any other group of letters or numbers—the transforming processes do not ask that the texts given to them be intelligible. Code that has not yet undergone such a process—called superencipherment —or which has been deciphered from it is called placode, a shortening of "plain code." Code that has been transformed is called encicode, from "enciphered code." To pass a plaintext through these transformations is to encipher or encode it, as the case may be. What comes out of the transformation is the ciphertext or the codetext. The final secret message, wrapped up and sent, is the cryptogram. (The term "ciphertext" emphasizes the result of encipherment more, while "cryptogram" emphasizes the fact of transmission more; it is analogous to "telegram.") To decipher or decode is for the persons legitimately possessing the key and system to reverse the transformations and

The primary drawback to the tracking ADC is speed—a conversion can take up to 256 clocks for an 8-bit output, 1024 clocks for a 10-bit value, and so on. In addition, the conversion speed varies with the input voltage. If the voltage in this example were .18v, the conversion would take only half as many clocks as the .37v example. The maximum clock speed of a tracking ADC depends on the propagation delay of the DAC and the comparator. After every clock, the counter output has to propagate through the DAC and appear at the output. The compara- tor then takes some amount of time to respond to the change in DAC voltage, producing a new up/down control input to the counter. Tracking ADCs are not commonly available; in looking at the parts avail- able from Analog Devices, Maxim, and Burr-Brown (all three are manufac- turers of ADC components), not one tracking ADC is shown. This only makes sense: a successive approximation ADC with the same number of bits is faster.

And I never looked a free truck in the mouth -- or engine. "Well, now, you're welcome," he mumbled, embarrassed by my thanks. We exchanged a few more comments on the weather, which was wet, and that was pretty much it for Conversation. We stared out the windows in silence. It was beautiful, of course; I couldn't deny that. Everything was green: the trees, their trunks covered with moss, their branches hanging with a canopy of it, the ground covered with ferns. Even the air filtered down greenly through the leaves. It was too green -- an alien planet. Eventually we made it to Charlie's. He still lived in the small, two-bedroom house that he'd bought with my mother in the early days of their marriage. Those were the only kind of days their marriage had -- the early ones. There, parked on the street in front of the house that never changed, was my new -- well, new to me -- truck. (He suffered through some transcribing as well.) Thanks especially to Sean for suggesting some needed cuts, and for organizing the bibliography. The last few chapters of this book were completed during my tenure as a Fellow of the National Humanities Center, in 199899. I thank the Center and its wonderful staff for their generous support. An adult Silver Persian from England (Lynchard Silver Shadow) was exported to Australia and also turned golden. Shadow had a few golden hairs on his paw, but did not turn golden until he was a year old when his coat turned to pale beige. By 3 years old he was entirely pale golden. Shadow was bred to a genetically golden female, but the pairing only produced silver offspring. However, at least one of his silver offspring later turned pale golden. Other descendents of Contessa also went through the late colour change. During the 1980s, several other breeders of Shaded Silver and Chinchilla Persians came forward to report that their cats had developed reddish, brownish or golden-coloured fur along their spines as they aged. Many of the cats had no golden in their ancestry. At first it was dismissed as an unavoidable genetic fault where silver was incompletely dominant and did not hide the recessive golden colour.

The bell tolls for everybody, the bell is symbolically the funeral bell, it conserns everybody. The message of the novel is presented through inner monologue. When jordan joins the war agains facist, he wants to fight all tyrannia and improve social conditions, he has all the typical features of Hemingway heroe, tough, competent, brave. Seems to be against all forms of governments, comes to conclusion that the republicans way is the best. He finds communism helpful. The question is wheter bloodshed is justified and humane.
