TV violence
Nowadays , television is the mainstream medium, which influences significantly
the public opinion and, furthermore , it has the power to influence the formation of an
individual’s identity . In such a situation, television violence has a particularly significant
and dangerous impact on the viewers , especially youth , whose identity, moral values and
beliefs are in the process of formation.
Young people often perceive celebrities they see on TV and imaginary characters
they see in movies as models for their own behavior . Children usually want to be soldiers
or gangsters. As a result , they attempt to follow their lead , which often leads to the
development of negative models of behavior. Also, some people think that fighting
scenes, explosions, shooting scenes and other violent elements of movies are so awesome
and they also want to spice up their lives and do something “cool”.
The impact of TV violence may be immediately evident in a child ’s behavior or
may surface years later , and young people can even be affected when the family
atmosphere shows no tendency toward violence. However , this does not mean that
violence on television is the only source for aggressive or violent behavior, but it is a
significant contributor. After taking some negative character from the movie as a model,
people will start to behave really stupidly, aggressively or dangerously. Some people start
to pick a quarrel to get into a fight, but usually it ends with some bruises and bleeding
nose. But there are more serious problems created by the violent TV programs.
Sometimes some people want to imitate even those scenes where someone suffers serious
harm or even dies . For example, two young children watched Tom & Jerry and they saw
a scene where Jerry drummed a pan into a Tom’s head. They also tried it out, but this led
to the sister ’s death.
Several things can be done to avoid the bad impressions caused by the violent
programs. Firstly, you can forbid your children to watch violent programs. However, this
isn’t easy task at all, because forbidding children will make them very curious. Another
thing to mention is that if possible, parents should watch TV with their children and talk
with them about what they have seen. Young children are often unable to separate reality
from TV shows. Finally , parents can use a V- chip in some countries, for example in the
USA. The V chip is a device that can block transmission of violent programs into homes.
The chip would allow parents to prevent a television program from being seen in their
homes if a rating system determined that it had a high level of violent or sexually explicit
content.
In conclusion , I think that TV violence is a serious problem, especially for the
younger age group. It’s impossible to remove violence from the TV, but we can lessen
the bad influence caused by it.
Usually these movies/series have about the same plot, where there are good guys and bad guys fighting and chasing each other. Often in the end good guys somehow still capture the criminals and live happily forward. This actually shows that the good guys will always eventually capture the bad guys and criminals have no chance. Still, they may have an affect to an audience. Because of the action it consists it can increase humans aggression and finally lead to violence. Secondly, there are also lots of children who watch violent films and get inspired by it. Because little children may be not so smart they will think that all the stunts and crimes can be done easily in life and they want to try it also. That is actually not children fault but it is bad parenting. Always when a child sets itself sitting to watch an action movie there has to be a parent near to explain how actually things work or just not allow to watch movies related to violence.
Violence on television. In today's society television plays a big role. People watch TV for many different reasons. They watch TV mainly for entertainment, but they also watch it to learn and to find out news. Violence is a major problem, it has affected people for ages. Although violence on television is not the greatest thing, it should be not be banned. In my opinion TV can be very educationaland it shouldn't be banned. Most people watch TV to get away from reality. Watching shows that depict a fantasy world are a lot more interesting to watch. People don't want to see things that happen to them on a regular bases. TV can be educating. For example, there are countries that you haven't visited. Some shows take you right in the middle of it and you don't even have to walk
However, watching TV has many advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage of watching Tv is the source of information. We can watch many educational programmes about animals, discoveries, history, physics and many other domains of science.Thank to TV we can get to knowabout the coulture of other countries. TV programmes show violence in fairy-tales, cartoons andprogrammes for children. Watching TV can limit children's imagination. In conclusion, I think that people should limit watching TVand start spending their free time in an active way. Tänapäeval valib telekanal palju aega või aega. Paljud inimesed veedavad oma vaba aega televiisoriga varustatuna. Kuid telerivaatamisel on palju eeliseid ja puudusi. Tv vaatamise peamine eelis on teabeallikas. Meil on võimalik jälgida paljusid
Its role is increasing not because it is an entertainer or informant, but because of the grip it has on many people. It is called a "living room monster" or "one-eyed monster." It is established that the biggest viewers are pensioners and housewives. The latter watch TV while their husbands are at work. In total they spend five hours daily sitting before the "boxes." Children watch commercials, horror films or films of violence. TV prevents children from creating their abilities. They get accustomed to TV to such an extent that they watch it all the time. To force their children away from their favourite evening programmes to their homework has eventually become the main problem of the parents of different countries. Moreover, TV is damaging for health. It has bad effect on the eyes, particularly of children. The physicians proved that if children do not watch TV their eyesight improves
The influence of television Television in Estonia started with broadcast experiments in the 1930's. Regular long broadcasted days started when Estonia was in the Soviet Union. That time there weren't very many channels and some were Finnish. Today there are big variety of channels, both cable and public television network, but technically Estonia has gone over to digital television. Television came more popular in Estonia in the 1970's, when there were more coloured TV's published. Almost every home had at least one TV. Television wasn't just for watching different channels, but also for gaming, like Super Mario, which actually was called ,,TV game" amongst little children. Television has the potential to unite communities, provide information to allow positive cultural, social and environmental change, and to create a true global village. It also has the potential to alienate, desocialise, to promote aggressive and negative
life-forms, and upon humans themselves. That is why the history of the twentieth century is where that dysfunction, that collective insanity, can be most clearly recognized. A further factor is that this dysfunction is actually intensifying and accelerating. The First World War broke out in 1914. Destructive and cruel wars, motivated by fear, greed, and the desire for power, had been common occurrences throughout human history, as had slavery, torture, and widespread violence inflicted for religious and ideological reasons. Humans suffered more at the hands of each other than through natural disasters. By the year 1914, however, the highly intelligent human mind had invented not only the internal combustion engine, but also bombs, machine guns, submarines, flame throwers, and poison gas. Intelligence in the service of madness! In static trench warfare in France and Belgium, millions of men perished to gain a few miles of mud. When the war was over in 1918, the
ideals before the youth. It may present an ostentatious lifestyle, which may inculcate wrong ideals amongst youngsters. · Unnecessary sensationalism of an issue may project wrong information to the public. · Misleading messages may again divert young minds towards a wrong path. · Wrong interpretation of news may even blow things out of proportion. This would create further unrest in any place or even violence in case of extreme situations. · At times, a particular event or news item may receive too much attention simply because of the lack of important news or snippets. This would again present a wrong idea before the public. · Certain types of mass media such as newspapers or leaflets have a very short shelf life. In terms of advertising, it would not serve to be useful for every kind of product or message.
PSYCHOLOGY PART 1: CORE Biological level of analysis Outline principles that define the biological level of analysis. 1) Behavior can be innate, because it is genetically based. Evolution may play a key role in behavior. 2) Animals may be studied as a means of understanding human behavior. 3) There are biological correlates of behavior. Cognitions, emotions and behaviors are products of the anatomy and physiology of our nervous and endocrine system. Explain how principles of the biological level of analysis may be demonstrated in research. 1) Correlational studies: Study by Buss, who hypothesized that across cultures, men will prefer to marry younger women because of greater reproductive capacity and women will place greater value on a potential mate's earning potential to provide survival advantages. This evolutionary hypothesis was tested in 37 cultures by sending out questioners. 2) Twin studies (type of correlational stud
