Tiger

Summary

Lilli Lakkur
Biology, course 1
Today tigers are facing extinction but there are also some National Parks where they are protected . There is a National Park in the heart of India where a female tiger is trying to raise a family.
She has got three little cubs. They are only nine weeks old and need mother ’s milk and protection . She is a successful mother because she knows how to take care of her cubs. The male tiger doesn’t help her to raise the cubs. Male tigers also don’t like being followed and they fight for their territory in order to mate several females. In fact male tigers are a huge danger to young cubs and one of their main enemies. Females also fight for territory but they do it so as to have more food.
Mother tiger can track her cubs by scent. She gives her offspring killing lessons in a form of games because playing is a crucial part of survival. Cubs also grow fast and they need regular food. Raising cubs is very demanding.
There is also a tiger police in this National Park. The aim of this police is to protect tigers from poachers. Locals respect tigers and they see them as the guardians of the forest .
Female tiger’s cubs grow fast and they are old enough to eat meat . At the moment it is not a problem because there is plenty of food because it is deer mating season and the deer are less alert to danger. This makes them easy targets but water and deer also attract wild dogs . Wild dogs are danger to the cubs but luckily they mainly kill deer.
It is the hottest time of the year and the grass is dried up but soon come monsoons. It makes hunting difficult for the tigers because of too big deer herds but there is also another serious problem. Female tiger is attacked by a new male tiger but she and her cubs are not injured. New male is trying to take over and it succeeds killing an older male and a young cub. Finally male tiger injures female tiger and she dies .
Her cubs are left alone and nobody cares for them. The cubs fail to hunt and they disappear. After several weeks of searching female cub is seen . She is alive and finds a tiger family, which accepts her.

Tundra animals Reindeer Reindeer were first domesticated in Norway and northern Asia. When it was seen how valuable they were, they were brought to Alaska in 1887 and later to parts of Canada. These North American reindeer became known as caribou. Although they are called by different names, they are both considered to be a single species. Unlike deer, both the male and female have antlers. The antlers of the male are long, branched and massive, and they are a little flattened at the ends. The antlers of the female are much shorter, simpler and more slender and irregular. Their large, spreading hooves support the animal in snow in the winter and marshy tundra in the summer. Reindeer are also great swimmers and use their feet as paddles. They can also lower their metabolic rate and go into a semi-hibernation when conditions get very harsh. When it looks like there is nothing to eat on the winter tundra, reindeer will scrape the snow away wit

Males form coalitions of 2 to 4 members. This helps them defend territories for hunting and mating. Fierce fights can occur between rival coalitions as a result of a territorial dispute. Young cubs stay with their mother, who raises them by herself for the first 18 months. She then leaves the cubs, which stay together for about 6 more months before breaking up. Male siblings will stay together for life. Cheetahs do not roar like lions and tigers. Instead, they make chirping sounds and hiss when angered or threatened. When alarmed, they whine or growl. They purr loudly when content. They do not roar. The cats have a good sense of smell and communicate by scenting tree trunks, bushes and termite mounds with their waste.

THE FAMILY Marriage changes over the centuries constantly, surprisingly and swiftly. It cannot be defined as a sacred union between a man and a woman, as marriages have not always been considered sacred. Marriage has often been seen as a union between one man and several women. And sometimes marriage has been seen as a union between one woman and several men, as in southern India, for example, one bride may be shared by several brothers. Marriage has also, at times, been recognized as a union between two men (as in ancient Rome, where marriages between aristocratic males were recognized by law), or as a union between two siblings (as in medieval Europe, when valuable property was at stake); or as a union between two children (again in Europe, when parents wanted to protect their property); or as a union between two unborn (ditto); or as a union between two people of the same social class (once more in Europe, where medieval peasan
