middle latitudes typically have between 25 cm and 50 cm of precipitation a year. Much of this falls as snow, serving as reservoir of moisture for the beginning of the growing season. Warm to hot summers are experienced, depending on latitude. In the winter, grassland temperatures can be as low as -40° C, and in the summer it can be as high 20° C. There are two real seasons: a growing season and a dormant season. The growing season is when there is no frost and plants can grow (which lasts from 100 to 175 days). During the dormant (not growing) season nothing can grow because it's too cold. Taiga- Long, cold winters, and short, mild, wet summers are typical of this region. In the winter, chilly winds from the arctic cause bitterly cold weather in the taiga. The length of day also varies with the seasons in the taiga. Winter days are short, while summer days are long. The average temperature is below freezing for six months out of the year

starvation and famine. Most poor people who battle hunger deal with chronic undernourishment and vitamin or mineral deficiencies, which result in stunted growth, weakness and heightened susceptibility to illness. Countries in which a large portion of the population battles hunger daily are usually poor and often lack the social safety nets we enjoy, such as soup kitchens, food stamps, and job training programs. When a family that lives in a poor country cannot grow enough food or earn enough money to buy food, there is nowhere to turn for help. Facts and Figures on Hunger, Famine and Poverty In the developing world, more than 1.4 billion people currently live below the international poverty line, earning less than $1.25 per day. Among this group of poor people, many have problems obtaining adequate, nutritious food for themselves and their families. As a result, 820 million people in the developing world are undernourished. Retell Global Warming

The Earth's climate has been changing constantly over its history. Once, all climate change occurred naturally, but recently, people have also started altering the climate. We are sending more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The average global temperature has increased by about 0.5 °C over the past century. Scientist expect it to increase up to an additional 3 °C over the next on 100 years. People who are living in cold places may have a chance to grow new crops if the climate gets warmer. At the same time in some parts of the world, people won't be able to grow the food they need. Global warming will make the sea level higher because it'll make the glaciers melt. When water expands in the ocean, it takes up more space and the level of the seas rise. If global warming gets worse, some kinds of plants and animals will become extinct. So as a result we have to slow down the global warming.

making of the longbows, spears and dagger handles. In the past they were used as landmarks, because of their size and longevity, and their dark branches would make them stand out in the landscape. It is excellent for furniture making, interior, fences, gates, chairs, doors, tables, and rustic furniture. Where the Yew Grows It is also possible to find small trees growing near bigger trees, which transplant well. They prefer a moist, fertile, sandy loam soil, but will grow well in most soils except water-logged ground or sticky wet clay. They also grow well on chalk. They resist pollution and can flourish in the shade of taller trees. Yew trees are often found lining cemeteries and churchyards Ancient yews Yews are slow-growing and long-lived, and are often associated with cemeteries where the trees grow undisturbed. There are many European yews whose age has been analyzed to be many hundreds of years old.

Secondly, I would suggest slightly lowering our prices and letting the public know of it. We should grow a reputation as a company that is not trying to rob their clients of their money. This would be a great advertisement for the shop and would boost our clientele, making up for the little lost from the lower prices. Advertising campaigns Finally, we should start an advertising campaign. We should invest a good sum of money into it as without people hearing about our shop, we cannot grow. A good idea would be to think of an idea or a motto for our shop that people would remember us by. As our company is fairly small, we should start with newspaper and internet ads. Conclusion To sum up, I believe that if we put some of these suggestions into practice, we will be able to make the shop more profitable.

Strawberries

Good morning! My name is Marianne Kümnik. I will be speaking today about strawberries. My presentation will last for about 10 minutes. Please can you save your questions till the end. Choosing Cultivars Some cultivars perform better than others, but it is difficult to predict which will grow best in a particular garden. Perhaps the best way to decide which cultivars to grow is to find out what works well for neighbours or local commercial growers. Before planting strawberries in a large area it’s good to try several promising cultivars Some cultivars that perform well: • Earliglow—perhaps the best-flavored cultivar, it is among the earliest to ripen. • Northeaster—ripens about the same time as Earliglow. It is resistant to red stele and does well on heavier clay soils. The berries are large and have a hint of grape

Tundra

Dead organic material functions as a nutrient pool. The two major nutrients are nitrogen and phosphorus. Nitrogen is created by biological fixation, and phosphorus is created by precipitation. The most distinctive characteristic of tundra soil is its permafrost, a permanently frozen layer of ground. The average winter temperature is -28°C, but the average summer temperature is 3-16°C. During the brief summers, the top section of the soil may thaw out allowing plants and microorganisms to grow and reproduce. However, these plants and microorganisms become dormant during the cold winter months. Soil is formed slowly. The constant freezing and thawing in the tundra helps to break the rocks into smaller pieces. Permafrost consists mostly of gravel and finer material. The arctic tundra is also a windy place and winds can blow between 48 to 97 kilometres. The tundra is basically like a desert when it comes to precipitation

How can the issue of intolerance be addressed by the government?

How can the issue of intolerance be addressed by the government? Intolerance in society is actually the intolerance of it’s individual members. Intolerance is rooted in fear and ignorance. People are afraid of the unknown, it is natural. But it can only grow, if it gets encouragement, either from parents, who are also ingorant or school, who just do not teach children any better. And fighting intolerance requires Law. Intolerance can be fought with education. Tolerance can be teached at an early age only, later it is difficult change a person’s values. down for farming purposes. Plants: Trees of this biome include hardwoods such as maple, oak, hickory, and beech. There are often some evergreens, such as hemlock, spruce, and fir growing amongst them. Decidous forests have usually 3-5 layers of plants; Top layer, or canopy: tall deciduous trees. Although the canopy is quite thick, it does allow sunlight to reach the forest floor, which encourages the other layers to grow. The 2nd layer: saplings and shorter kinds of trees The 3rd layer, or understorey: shrubs. The 4th layer: forest herbs, such as wildflowers and berries. In spring, before the leaves develop on the deciduous trees, these herbs bloom and grow quickly while they are getting a lot of sunlight. The 5th layer: mosses and lichens that grow on tree trunks. Lianas such as wild grape, poison ivy, and Virginia creeper climb the trees to flower and fruit high in the forest canopy. Plant adaptations:

Do live in the countryside or in the city? essay

I agree but physically it is very exhausting. You have to work hard to keep the house and yard clean. When you have a farm there is no lack of work and you always have your hands in the soil. At least there is always some action. Although living in the countryside has few bad sides, I am sure rural life stays always in my heart. To me country life has more pros than cons. If you are a maverick which I am then living in the countryside has the privacy what you need. Also you can grow your own vegetables and fruits when you live in the countryside. I think any fruit or vegetable which is from your own tree or a field is better than the one you find in stores. I think living in the city has a lot of disadvantages. The first aspect that appears in my mind is the crime rate. I do not want to live in a place, where I always have to be cautious and ready to protect myself. Also living in the city is bad for your health because the air is

Protection Lady's slipper (orchid), with the largest flowers of all European orchid species, is placed under protection by law everywhere. Pink Lady's Slipper is endangered in some areas because they take a long time to grow, and because people collect them. Also, since Pink Lady's Slippers cannot grow without the Rhizoctonia fungus, the plants people collect usually die anyway. There are significant efforts to protect Pink Lady's Slippers, and in most places it is now illegal to remove them from their habitat. Thanks for listening! :)

Arctic Ground Squirrel

The average mass 750 g. However, males generally are around 100 g heavier than females. Diet Herbivore. Eats a wide variety of plants including seeds, berries, willow leaves, mushrooms, grasses and flowers. In the summer, it begins to store willow leaves, seeds and grasses in its burrow. Hibernates in the winter (from September to April) and it uses this store of food after it wakes up while it is waiting for spring plants to grow. Sometimes this squirrel carries food back to it's den within its cheeks. Reproduction Arctic ground squirrels mate in May. The female has between five and ten babies. The babies are born blind and hairless in late June. The babies begin to grow hair after about eight days, and their eyes open after about twenty days. The babies will begin to leave the burrow after their eyes open. The babies are fully weaned by September and leave

Tigers

The male tiger doesn't help her to raise the cubs. Male tigers also don't like being followed and they fight for their territory in order to mate several females. In fact male tigers are a huge danger to young cubs and one of their main enemies. Females also fight for territory but they do it so as to have more food. Mother tiger can track her cubs by scent. She gives her offspring killing lessons in a form of games because playing is a crucial part of survival. Cubs also grow fast and they need regular food. Raising cubs is very demanding. There is also a tiger police in this National Park. The aim of this police is to protect tigers from poachers. Locals respect tigers and they see them as the guardians of the forest. Female tiger's cubs grow fast and they are old enough to eat meat. At the moment it is not a problem because there is plenty of food because it is deer mating season and the deer are less alert to danger

Essee In war, there are no unwounded soldiers

Jose Narosky If we see a soldier who has returned from the war with no visible injuries we think he got lucky. But in war there is always injuries, even if we can`t see them. This essay will touch upon soldiers who go through death of friends, companions and even enemies which will leave a big hole in their souls, also soldiers who have died in war and have left behind families and in some cases kids who have to grow up with one parent. Not to mention the wounded ones, who will suffer from the actions of the war for the rest of their lives. Firstly, soldiers who go through death of friends, companions and enemies have a big hole in their souls. Seeing death isn`t something you can just forget, it becomes a memory that he doesn`t want to remember. Some soldiers do not have strong nervous system and they can go crazy, some of them can go even a bedlam

My ideal house My ideal house would be located in the woods, more precisely in the hills of Austria. It would almost be like a ski lodge, but it would be all mine. I want to live in the alps, because I’d like to wake up to a lovely view of the alps. The house would almost entirely be made out of wood. I would have a big back yard where I would have a football pitch, a miniature one, not a big one. Around the house I would grow all kinds of flowers and have a small garden. I would have a small garage, because I like cars and I like to take care of them. The house has 2 floors (basement, 1st and 2nd floor). The livingroom would have a cozy fireplace, a big TV and a couple of couches. The interior of the house would be finished in wood aswell. My bedroom would face the mountains and the setting sun. The house has a big balcony and there’s also a grill and a fireplace, where I can hang out with my friends.

Iseloomusta väga kõrge IQ-ga inimest

Just üksi on nad selle pärast et neid kõrge IQ-ga inimesi on vähe. Oleneb just sellest kui kõrge see IQ on. The thing you have to remember is that intelligence is like a piece of wood. By itself, it does very little. But when you work it, when you exercise it, when you grow it and care for it, it can do some really amazing things for you, tõlkes: inteligentsus on kui tükk puitu, üksi teeb see vähe, kuid kui sa sellega töötad ja seda töötled, seda kasvatad ja selle eest hoolt kannad saad sa sellega korda saata imelisi asju (anonüümne kommenteerija Greg Strange). Kõrge IQ-ga inimestel on palju nõrki kohti. Peamine nõrk koht on see et ta on kiirema taibuga kui teised, seega ei saa ta pidada tavalisi vestlusi ja sõprade omamine on väga raske.

What are the most needed professions in Estonia in the 21st Century

In my opinion one the most needed professions is a doctor. When people get sick, they need doctors to check them, put diagnose and treat them. In my opinion there are few specialists in Estonia because lot of them go to foreign country, mostly because of the low salary in Estonia. Another job needed is teachers. If you want to study a specialty or aquire a high school you need teachers who will guide and teach. The third most needed profession is builders. The cities grow and new building`s are being razed and in turn, the economy is growing. Some old houses are being restored like they used to be in the past. I think that all three professions are needed in Estonia and that employees in this field do not leave Estonia when raise salary and they are recognized. There are many other employees who are in dire need and without them Estonia would not function.

Schools kill creativity

But even in pre-school you’re directed to learn as well as you can to go to university one day. Teachers want kids to be right all the time. But when they don’t have chance to be wrong, how they’re going to develope their creativity. I mean, when they’re in a trouble, but they’re willing to do anything, that could save them from punishment, then they can come up with many creative ways to make the situation better. So now I have to agree with Ken again, we don’t grow into creativity, we grow out of it. Also only hope for better future is to adopt a new conception of human ecology. We should re-think the ways we are living now, most important the ways we are teaching kids to handle the future. Because like Jonas Salk quoted: „If all the insects were to dissapear from the earth, within 50 years all life on Earth would end. If all human beings disappeared from the Earth, within 50 years all forms of life would flourish.“

Temperate grassland worksheet

6. What is the role of wildfires in the temperate grassland plants’ lifecycle? Wildfires play a very important role. They allow the grasslands to be open and free of trees and shrubs. Any seedling of a tree that appears is killed off by the intense heat. If the fire does not clear out the seedlings, the grasslands would become a shrubland changing forever. Remarkably, the plants in the grasslands have adapted to the wildfires that come through, and actually need them to keep healthy and grow new vegetation in the spring 7. How are plants adapted to life in temperate grassland? (vt. ka õpik lk 61) During a fire, while above-ground portions of grasses may perish, the root portions survive to sprout again. Some prairie trees have thick bark to resist fire. Prairie shrubs readily resprout after fire. Roots of prairie grasses extend deep into the ground to absorb as much moisture as they can Extensive root systems prevent grazing animals from pulling roots out of the ground

SWEDISH FOOD

everyday dining. Lingonberry — Sweden’s favorite sauce Just like ketchup and mustard, lingonberry sauce is widely used to accompany a variety of dishes, from meatballs and pancakes to porridge and blood pudding. But despite its sweetness, it is rarely used on bread. Thanks to the Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten), which gives everyone the freedom to roam and enjoy nature, many Swedes grow up picking lingonberries in the forest, and using these tiny tart red fruits to make the jam-like preserve. Open sandwiches When you order a sandwich, don’t be surprised if it involves just a single slice of bread. The concept of open sandwiches dates back to the 15th century when thick slabs of bread were used as plates. In Sweden, the shrimp sandwich (räksmörgås) remains the option fit for a king. Piled high with a mix of boiled egg slices, lettuce, tomato and

Having children while young

It's a bad thing, because you can't finish school on time. Another point is that you don't have enough money to support the baby. Diapers are very expensive. You are not as experienced in the world, less wise so not only less wisdom to pass on to the kids, but less wisdom on effectively raising your children. You can't enjoy your young and single life, because you have do nurture your child. On the plus side you are much more energetic than some older parents. You will be younger when they grow up and move out, giving you more freedom earlier on. You will see more of their lives before you pass on. For example, many of my friend got a child when they were still in school and they are happy about the baby but also they are so sad because they dropped put of school to raise their kid. Last of all, having children while young has it's pros and cons. In conclusion, many people have the same opinion as I, that having a kid while young is wrong.

Living in the countryside is boring

countryside. In my opinion, living in the countryside is awesome. I think that people, who live outside of big cities are more tolerant and friendly. To sum up I have lived in countryside all my life and I am not complaining. I have friends here and I can deal with my hobbies. On the other hand I am not denying that living in a city would be even richer, but also I think I would rather live here. Moreover the environment where we grow up shapes who we are and finally growing up in the countryside forms you a better person.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of being immortal

What are the advantages and disadvantages of living forever? Scientists believe that in 30 years we have a technology, that makes possible to live forever. Being immortal has its advantages and disadvantages, which you can't just look over. Living for decades or even eons, a person gets the chance to see his future generations. It gives an opportunity to see, how fast the world changes every day. I think most people, who hear about being immortal, think that it would be great. But if they think about it, then they realise that it also has its bad side. For example, you won't grow older of the age you started being immortal, and you will always have the same look, just as 30 or 50 years ago. All the memories from your childhood will vanish in time. A problem with population would come up in 20-30 years after making people immortal. The world is even now being overcrowded in many places, such ...

All studied biomes

4. How are plants adapted to life in the biome? Tundra plants are small -- usually less than a foot high .The hairs on the stems of many tundra plants, such as the Arctic crocus, help to trap heat near the plant and act as protection from the wind. Plants adapted to the tundra have small waxy leaves to prevent the loss of precious water in this dry environment. Quick-Developing, Cup-Shaped Flowers Soil Not Needed for Growth Polar Desert- Plants that grow in the Arctic regions must be very hardy and adapted to the extreme winter cold of these environments. Polar desert plants have a summertime growing season, but in the Arctic and Antarctic that season is short---often wildflowers and the other plants that manage to survive here are active only from June to July Alphine biome- Because of the blustery weather, most plants are small groundcover plants, which grow and reproduce slowly
