could assess the quality of the works presented. 1. THEORETICAL PART Any type of history is a discourse in its own right. What is more, when talking about art history, the discourses seem to flourish immensely from one into another, and so on into many more. In the context of the beginnings, one cannot but firstly reflect upon the artwork of graffiti. Later on, by the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, street art has evolved into complex interdisciplinary forms of artistic expression. From graffiti, stencils, prints and murals, through large-scale paintings and projects of artistic collaboration, to street installations, as well as performative and video art, it is very much safe to say that street art has found it’s way into the core of contemporary art. And rightly so. (Maric B. The History of Street Art, 2014 [https://www.widewalls.ch/the-history-of-street-art/] 20.12.17)

glider. With each generation of materials and with the improvements in aerodynamics, the performance of hang gliders has increased. With good weather, a pilot is able to soar for hours. The measure of performance is the glide ratio for example a ratio of 12:1 means that a glider can travel forward 12 meters while only losing 1 meter of altitude. Average glide ratio is 17:1 20:1 and average speed is 45-55 km/h. Early forms of gliding had existed in China perhaps by the 4th century AD. Competitions started with "flying as long as possible" and spot landings. With increasing performance cross-country flying replaced them. Usually two to four waypoints have to be passed with a landing at a goal. Nowadays every two years there is a world championship. The Rigid and Women's World Championship in 2006 was hosted by Florida. Texas hosted the 2007 World Championship. Cliff Diving

KIek in de kök

Kiek in de Kök tower The cannon tower Kiek in de Kök was founded in 1475-1483. The name was first recorded in the description of the second siege of Tallinn in 1577 as Kyck in de Kaeken, later on several forms of the same name were used, such as Kik (Kyk) in de Kok, Kiek in die Küche, Pulffer-Thurm Giecken Köck. In 1696 the present name Kiek in de Kök was also mentioned, meaning "peek into the kitchen" in Low German. And true enough, it was possible to watch what the enemy was doing in their "kitchen" i.e. on position lower down from the about 38m-high tower. Already in the late 15th century the tower was somewhat reconstructed. The outer walls were made thicker and the tower got a diameter of 17

This period called "The Golden Age of Television" because at that time, the television spread across America very fast. According to The Television Industry: A Historical Dictionary, "the Golden Age opened with Kraft Television Theatre on May 7, 1947 and ended with the last live show in the Playhouse 90( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHPdXQwRnoc ) series ten years later. Television became available in crude experimental forms in the late 1920s, but it would still be several years before the new technology was marketed to consumers. After World War II, an improved form of black-and-white TV broadcasting became popular in the United States and Britain, and television sets became commonplace in homes, businesses, and institutions. Inglise leksikoloogia kordamisküsimuste vastused

Examples of ETYMOLOGICAL TRIPLETS (i.e. groups of three words of common root) are few in number: hospital (Lat.) - hostel (Norm.Fr.) - hotel (Par.. Fr.); to capture (Lat.) - to catch (Norm. Fr.) - to chase (Par. Fr.). 15. Folk etymology = popular etymology Folk’ or ‘popular’ theories (i.e. the thoughts of ordinary non-academic people) about the origins, forms, and meanings of words, sometimes resulting in changes to the words in question. (Examples: rosemary, cutlet, crayfish, island, nickname, newt, cherry, pea) For example, one frequently repeated “folk etymology” is that the expression rule of thumb derives from a medieval law that restricted wife beaters to a stick no bigger round than the thickness of their thumbs. It makes for a sensational story, but has no truth in it.

Hoe to write an argumentative essay?

The same is true for grammatical patterns and vocabulary: different grammatical patterns and words make the essay more interesting and easily readable. As an essay is a formal piece of writing, contractions (e.g. isn't, aren't, etc.) are not acceptable because they are not formal enough. S/he can be used instead of the cumbersome "he or she" to save space when having in mind a person of either sex, or the also politically correct "they" for the singular. There should be neither slang forms nor colloquialisms. It is important to be as precise and to the point as possible. Hinting at things is not a good idea because essays are not meant to be read by friends who know the writer's point of view anyway, but by mere acquaintances or most often even strangers who should also understand everything the writer is trying to say. As to the sentences, it is stylistically good to have them nicely balanced, some of them longer, some shorter, but not too long or too short

Some of the Romantic Era Composers: Ludwig van Beethoven, who was regarded by many as the first Romantic composer, Carl Maria von Weber, Daniel Auber, Ferdinando Carulli and many more. Important to Composers was to move their audiences, rather than concerning themselves with the structural discipline of Classical forms. The determination of the form of an argument requires caution. It is important to ensure that all premises are explicitly stated. Sometimes, an argument needs the addition of an implicit premises to get the complete form. This figure is a square. Therefore, this figure has four sides. There is a missing premise: All squares have four sides. So the full argument is now apparent: All squares have four sides. This figure is a square. Therefore, this figure has four sides. Validity/invalidity of forms Let us consider the following form: All A are B All C are A Therefore, All C are B. When the premises are true, the conclusion is necessarily true. This is a valid form. Let us consider the following form: All A are B All C are B Therefore, All A are C When the premises are true, the conclusion can be true. Schotland

Scotlan History The history of Scotland begins around 10,000 years ago, when humans first began to inhabit Scotland after the end of the Devensian glaciation, the last ice age. Of the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age civilization that existed in the country, many artifacts remain, but few written records were left behind.People lived in Scotland for at least 8,500 years before recorded history dealt with Britain. The written history of Scotland largely begins with the arrival of the Roman Empire in Britain, when the Romans occupied what is now England and Wales, administering it as a Roman province called Britannia. To the north was territory not governed by the Romans -- Caledonia, by name. Its people were the Picts. From a classical historical viewpoint Scotland seemed a peripheral country, slow to gain advances filtering out from the Mediterranean fount of civilisation, but as knowledge of the past incr...

Slide 6 Starch digestion is also different in various foods with diferent components. Proteins that attaches to starch granules may make harder to digest starch. Cooking starch with protein may also reduce effectness of digestion. Protein forms around starch and it is harder to break through to starch. Ohter study found out that adding sodium sulphite to starch can prevent enzyme-resistant polymers that increase the speed of digestion because amylotic enzymes can easily hydrolyse starch. Removing gluten may also work to increase digestion time, but adding it back doed not reverse the reaction. Slide 7 This study found out how important is starch in our everyday life. Charles Darwin

eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century (among them Charles Darwin's grandfather, Erasmus Darwin) had offered detailed theories of evolution (Clark, 1984, pg.24-25). Therefor the idea of evolution went very far back in Western history. At that time this concept was referred to as The Great Chain Of Life and was conceived in the middle ages, based on a mixture of classical and Biblical ideas. The ranking order ranged from the "lowest" forms of life to "higher" living beings (lion), through the various classes of human beings from peasants to nobles to Popes, and upwards through the hierarchy of angles to God. This concept, in and of itself, has nothing to do with evolution, in fact it seems to be anti-evolutionary, since every member is fixed in its own place. This chain was created in a time when the world was considered to be more static rather than a diverse collection of dynamic ideas.

Schools kill creativity

So now I have to agree with Ken again, we don’t grow into creativity, we grow out of it. Also only hope for better future is to adopt a new conception of human ecology. We should re-think the ways we are living now, most important the ways we are teaching kids to handle the future. Because like Jonas Salk quoted: „If all the insects were to dissapear from the earth, within 50 years all life on Earth would end. If all human beings disappeared from the Earth, within 50 years all forms of life would flourish.“ Ken Robinson made this speech in 2006. Right now it’s 2015. In nine years the world has been developed a bit, but not enough to make a future a better place for our kids. Like Ken sayd: „We may not see the future, but they will.“

The Historic Centre (Old Town) of Tallinn

The Historic Centre (Old Town) of Tallinn is an exceptionally complete and well-preserved medieval northern European trading city on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The city developed as a significant centre of the Hanseatic League during the major period of activity of this great trading organization in the 13th-16th centuries. The combination of the upper town on the high limestone hill and the lower town at its foot with many church spires forms an expressive skyline that is visible from a great distance both from land and sea. The upper town (Toompea) with the castle and the cathedral has always been the administrative centre of the country, whereas the lower town preserves to a remarkable extent the medieval urban fabric of narrow winding streets, many of which retain their medieval names, and fine public and burgher buildings, including town wall, Town Hall,

listener. In colloquial speech the same effect is achieved by "man", "girl", "chap", "fellow". The speaker may use pronouns "he", "she" meaning himself as if viewing himself from the distance and this is a means of focusing more attention on the speaker (e.g. K. Mansfield: "I do not want to write; I want to live. What does she mean by that?" ). The archaic second personal pronoun "thou" ("thee thy thyself") and its forms may be used nowadays to create an elevated mood in poetry. In prose they may convey geographical or historical background (e.g. E. Hemingway rendered the speech of a Spanish person by using "thou"; or W. Scott in his historical novels used "thou" for ancient colouring). "It", "he", "she" may be involved in personification (e.g. "The Moon smiled her smile."). When applied to people transfers then to a class of objects and creates irony, humor or negative

Translation history

Saussure's lectures in Geneva. The Course became one of the seminal linguistics works of the 20th century, not primarily for the content (many of the ideas had been anticipated in the works of other 20th century linguists), but rather for the innovative approach that Saussure applied in discussing linguistic phenomena. Saussure is one of the founding fathers of semiotics, which he called semiology. His concept of the sign/signifier/signified/referent forms the core of the field. Equally crucial, although often overlooked or misapplied, is the dimension of the syntagmatic and paradigmatic axes of linguistic description. Saussure's 'theory of the sign' defined a sign as being made up of the matched pair of signifier and signified. Signifier The signifier is the pointing finger, the word, the sound-image. A word is simply a jumble of letters. The pointing finger is not the star. It is in the interpretation of the signifier that meaning is created.

Countering

Who is going to decide whether North American culture is superior to Chinese culture? That may be so, but for most people the whole point of marriage is to live together and raise a family. That might have been the case once, but you forget that mega-stars like Pelé and Ali were the products. They could pull crowds and make vast sums of money. Well, maybe they do, but they've got to learn to live together. I'm against all forms of segregation. You may be right about sport and politics, but it can work both ways. 7.4 Countering using "well" both to cast doubt and for antithesis Think of all the money that's spent in the souvenir shops of these galleries and museums. Well you might as well argue that the government should subsidize all shops. But under the patients' charter, hospitals are meant to treat you within a certain time. Well, you know how they get round that one

Thoughts on Air Pollution Essay

In order to accomplish this, governments, scientists and environmentalists are using or testing a variety of methods aimed at reducing pollution. There are two main types of pollution control. Input control involves preventing a problem before it occurs, or at least limiting the effects the process will produce. Five major input control methods exist. People may try to restrict population growth, use less energy, improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, and move to non-polluting renewable forms of energy production. Also, automobile-produced pollution can be decreased with highly beneficial results. Output control, the opposite method, seeks to fix the problems caused by air pollution. This usually means cleaning up an area that has been damaged by pollution. Input controls are usually more effective than output controls. Output controls are also more expensive, making them less desirable to tax payers and polluting industries.

Exercise Physiology - lecture 4 Blood, gas exchange, transport

380 C 200 C Haemoglobin Saturation & Temp When the blood becomes warmer (e.g. in active muscles) the curve shifts to the right. This means that O2 has less affinity with haemoglobin and is unloaded more easily. When the blood becomes cooler (e.g. in the lungs) this shifts the curve to the left. The Hb has a higher affinity with O2, which means there is a high level of O2 saturation. CO2 Transport Transported in blood in 3 forms: 1. dissolved in plasma (7-10%) 2. Binds to haemoglobin (different site to O2) (carbaminohaemoglobin) 3. Transported as bicarbonate (60 70%) In the active tissues: H2O + CO2 H2CO3 HCO3- + H+ (carbonic bicarbonate acid) ion) CO2 Transport In the lungs: HCO3- + H+ H2CO3 H2O + CO2 Gas Exchange at the Muscles - a-vO2 Difference Rest This describes the extent to which O2 is extracted,

The Moon Is Down

The conflict starts at the beginning of the occupation as an illusion of a friendly takeover both the invaders and the locals try to maintain, is shattered by the deaths of several people killed because of futile resistance attempts. At first, things go well. The locals are stunned and confused, and the invaders busily plan and carry out expansion of coal production. Soon enough, a slow, burning anger replaces the people's fear and a ragged resistance movement forms. Random acts of sabotage occur against soldiers and the coal mine. The invaders, under orders from above, impose repressive measures to keep the production going. Their commander follows his order knowing that, in fact, there is little hope of stopping the sabotage for more than a few days at a time. The conquerors say of themselves and their futile efforts to defeat the undefeated motivation of the townspeople, "The flies have conquered the flypaper!" Soon, all semblance of harmony is ended

Kroom

Metallide pingereas paikneb kroom tsingi ja raua vahel, seepärast reageerib ta lahjendatud hapetega. Väikesi kroomikoguseid vajab me keha suhkruainevahetuse reguleerimiseks ning toidus sisalduvate süsivesikute omastamiseks. Parimad allikad on liha, kanaliha, pähklid, täisteratooted, munakollane, juust ja õllepärm. Ainult üksikutel juhtudel on teatatud, et kroomi täielik eemaldamine inimese dieedist on põhjustanud kroomi puudust . In larger amounts and different forms chromium can be toxic and . The most prominent example of toxic chromium is (Cr(VI))

The Galapagos islands

Land iguanas are lighter in color, tan to dark brown, and have shorter scales on the backbone. Land iguanas are inland, lesser in number, and feed on cactus . There are 11 remaining races of the Galapagos Giant Tortoises. They eat grasse, cacti, and other vegetation. They can go for more than a year without drinking or eating. The most famous tortoise from Galapagos is the Lonesome George who was found in 1971 on the island of Pinta. He is the sole survivor of his race. There are four forms of sea turtles living in the Galapagos. Their front legs have modified into flippers for the water. They breathe air, but can stay submerged for a long time. Depending on their form, they feed on bottom algae, seagrasses, jellyfish, bottom sponges, crabs and mollusks. The Galapagos penguin lives farther north than any other penguin. Breeding on Isabela and Fernandina islands, the penguin is monogamous and is not as social as other penguins. They are only 40 cm tall.

London - climate, park and gardens

Since its foundation, London has been part of many movements and phenomena throughout history, including the English Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the Gothic Revival. The city's core, the ancient City of London, still retains its limited medieval boundaries; but since at least the 19th century, the name "London" has also referred to the whole metropolis that has developed around it. Today the bulk of this conurbation forms the London region of England and the Greater London administrative area, with its own elected mayor and assembly. London is one of the world's most important business, financial and cultural centres and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion and the arts contributes to its status as a major global city. Central London is the headquarters of more than half of the UK's top 100 listed companies (the FTSE 100) and over 100 of Europe's 500 largest companies

They arrived there about 12,000 years before from southern Asia. They had very rich forms of art, painting, song, poetry and mythology. The lives of aborigines stayed almost the same for thousands of years until the Europeans came to live in Australia in 1778. In 1770 J. Cook landed in eastern Australia and declared that it belonged to Britain. In 1778, the British government began sending the first prisoners to Australia. Overtime many people arrived from Britain and Europe. Life was difficult. There was very little water and the climate was very hard.
