At the same time, not only Estonia, but also other countries that were under the authority of the Soviet Union, increased the independence efforts. People didn't want to live like this anymore, it was based on fear and commands. The start of the Estonian public announcement of the reindependence is probably the Singing Revolution. To begin with, the Singing Revolution was a non-violent wish expressing and embarked on the Soviet Union to fall apart. The Singing Revolution is a commonly used name for events between 1987 and 1990 that led to the restoration of the independence of Estonia and also Latvia and Lithuania. Afterwards, there was a spontaneous mass night-singing demonstrations at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds in June 10-11 in 1988. Singing revolution is known as a revolution without blood

The industrial revolution

The industrial revolution The Industrial Revolution, which took place from the 18th to 19th centuries, was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. By mid-century, many people worked for small businesses or on farms, laboring in fields that would yield barely enough food to feed the family. New inventions and technology began to change that, however. Larger factories opened and produced new farm equipment, such as the steel plow and the tractor,

Jacques Louis David ja Prantsuse Revolutsioon

Introduction The great French Revolution has been regarded to as one of the most influential events in modern Western history, and therefore there are various interpretations to explain how the Revolution evolved and what it was like. It is important to focus on very different kinds of historical evidence and sources to get a clear picture of the Revolution. Therefore, one must not forget to look not only at the written sources but also at the more cultural and artistic interpretations. One of the best examples of cultural and political distribution of the Revolutionary ideas was Jacques-Louis David, who, with his paintings, perpetuated The French Revolution from the Republican point of view. His art was mostly tightly connected to the main figures, events and ideas of the French Revolution. David had more than 5 pieces of

The History of Flag Day

advocate the observance of June 14 as 'Flag Birthday', or 'Flag Day'. On June 14, 1889, George Balch, a kindergarten teacher in New York City, planned appropriate ceremonies for the children of his school, and his idea of observing Flag Day was later adopted by the State Board of Education of New York. On June 14, 1891, the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia held a Flag Day celebration, and on June 14 of the following year, the New York Society of the Sons of the Revolution, celebrated Flag Day. Following the suggestion of Colonel J Granville Leach (at the time historian of the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution), the Pennsylvania Society of Colonial Dames of America on April 25, 1893 adopted a resolution requesting the mayor of Philadelphia and all others in authority and all private citizens to display the Flag on June 14th. Leach went on to recommend that thereafter the day be known as 'Flag Day',

The Steam Engine

coal mines. In 1712 Thomas Newcomen introduced an improved version of Savery's engine. James Watt improved it even further and later came up with an idea on how to use a steam engine to power something with wheels. Alright, but why are they important? Steam engines are veryveryvery important because it was the dominant source of power well into the 20th century. They actually were the moving force behind the Industrial Revolution. So no steam engines = no Industrial Revolution = Middle Ages that last approximately forever, give or take a few days But how do they work? One of the 2 important parts is the boiler which contains water to be boiled. The second important part of a steam engine are the pistons. In James Watt's engine the pistons are moved by condensing water which causes vacuum which is created on both sides of the piston to make it move back and forth. Okay, okay I get the point. Why does Marx elevate proletariat? Do you see Wright doing the same? What do you think why?

In Karl Marx’s eyes, the society was divided into two classes – the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. He considered bourgeoisie to be the upper class and proletariat the lower class, also known as the working class, which he elevated and believed more in. On the other hand, a man named Erik Olin Wright had a different set of mind. Firstly, Karl Marx thought that proletariat was more powerful than bourgeoisie, because he believed, that if there would be a revolution one day, then it would be carried out by the proletariat. In work, Marx saw a form of human self-expression, which the capitalist mode of production did not allow to develop. He claimed, that the pressure would arise interest in economics and politcs among the proletariats so they could take over power, fight against the injustices the bourgeoisie carry out against them and finally free the society from class differentiaton.

Why did Russian civil war breake out in 1918

All these enemies of the Bolsheviks co-operated to try to bring down the Bolshevik government. A second cause of the Civil War was the Czech Legion. These were some Czech prisoners of war being taken across Russia who in 1918 mutinied, took control of the Trans-Siberian Railway, and attacked towards Moscow. Finally, these groups within Russia were helped by the Great Powers, angry that Russia had dropped out of the First World War. They were afraid because the Bolsheviks believed in World Revolution, the Bolsheviks set up the Comintern, led by Zinoviev, which said it would cause communist revolutions all over the world. Consequently, the Allies sent armies to destroy the Bolsheviks, British, American and French armies attacked from Archangel, Ukraine, and Vladivostock. As an result Bolsheviks had their victory and a huge establishment of the Soviet Union. Also a lots of countries got their independence like Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.

Introduction to macroeconomics

The unemployment rate is the ratio of the number of unemployed workers to the size of the labour force. The labour force consists of · those who are either working or are actively looking for a job. In comparison with the total population, it leaves out - young people who are not yet working, - the old who are retired, - and those who do not wish to work--or have given up hope of working. Inflation refers to the rate of change of the average level of prices. Keynesian revolution explains why the study of macroeconomics is so intertwined with policy and politics. - Two traditional demand management instruments are fiscal and monetary policy. Fiscal policy manipulates government expenditures or taxes in an attempt to affect the volume of national spending. Monetary policy is directed at influencing interest and exchange rates, and more generally conditions in financial markets; this in turn affects spending on goods and services.

Malthus believed that there was a finite optimum population in relation to food supply and that an increase beyond that point would lead to a decline in living standards and to war, famine and disease.  An increase in the population above the optimum limit would therefore lead to war, famine and disease. A PESSIMISTIC approach  Thomas Malthus (1798) proposed his work during the early stages of the industrial revolution when inadequate food and clothing were common features in England.  His argument was that population increases (geometrically) or at an exponential rate if unchecked i.e. 1-2-4-8- 16-32 etc  Food supply at best increases at an arithmetic rate i.e.1-2-3-4-5-6 etc A PESSIMISTIC approach  Malthus suggested that a rise in population, however small, would mean that eventually population growth exceeded increases in food supply and

World in 2060

World in 2060 People have always been interested of what the future will look like. To be able to predict the future, you must know the past. Is the World livable in 50 years of time? Will there be flying cars? These questions run through our mind every time we put our minds to future. To start with, flying car is an expectation for future that has been pictured for a long time. In the industrial revolution scientist developed the most common things that we currently use in a very short term of time, thus why they can't do it again. For now, world is an oil dependent society, and that has to change, what is more, no secondary solution for petrol hasn't been proved successful. We might run out of petrol soon and therefore we need another source of energy that makes our lives easier. To sum up, future will always be a mystery. It may well as happen ...

Powerpointi esitlus Rock Summerist '88

Ultima Thule, Vitamiin. • Rock Summer took place from 1988 until 1997, when Makarov Music Management went bankrupt. • In 2013 the Rock Summer 25th birthday was held on Tallinn Song and Festival grounds yet again. • On 1990, the festival was withdrawn because of the political situation that was ruling Estonia. • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= dzFSHSrXxhg (trailer of the event, 4.88minutes) • I think Rock Summer was the early beginning of Estonian revolution against USSR, all those people who came together, no matter young or elderly they had one thing in mind – they wanted Estonia to be free. • Three years later on 1991 Estonia became independent again and we are still an independent nation.
