And Robert Burns became well known and popular. Nessie · Scotland is also the land of myths and mysteries; every castle has its ghost. Glamis Castle is said to have nine of them. And of course everyone knows about the Loch Ness, Monster. «Nessie» is said to be about six meters long, with a long, thin neck. The first report of the monster in Loch Ness was in 565 year 1934 thousands of people claimed to they had seen the monster. Scientists have investigated the Loch and taken pictures but no scientific explanation of the mystery has been given.

It cannot be assumed that women are only at home because of obstacles to labour force participation. Women are not necessarily exploited because they work in part-time low paid sectors, but rather that this is the result of choice to prioritize home life. Womens didn´t see themselves as exploited, instead they valued what work gave them: freedom, social networks, ability to escape the house and the power within the home. Individual women´s aspirations have to be investigated, rather than deduced from social policies or official ideologies. Full time work can be the result of contingent and almost random events in women´s life, rather than particular lifestyle. Women can have some expectations entering into the labour market with a particular orientation, but this expectation may not be permanently fulfilled. So decisions, regarding to working hours and failed expectations can be changed. Just because a political, social, moral

atmosphere and the ocean, in changes in the global water cycle, in reductions in snow and ice, in global mean sea level rise, and in changes in some climate extremes. Initial causes of temperature changes Greenhouse gases The greenhouse effect is the process by which absorption and emission of infrared radiation by gases in a planet's atmosphere warm its lower atmosphere and surface. It was proposed by Joseph Fourier in 1824, discovered in 1860 by John Tyndall, was first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896, and was developed in the 1930s through 1960s by Guy Stewart Callendar. Solar activity Since 1978, output from the Sun has been precisely measured by satellites. These measurements indicate that the Sun's output has not increased since 1978, so the warming during the past 30 years cannot be attributed to an increase in solar energy reaching the Earth . The graphs show otherwise. Effects of global warming on oceans

R. Kipling & M. Faraday

He discovered electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism, and laws of electrolysis. He established that magnetism could affect rays of light and that there was an underlying relationship between the two phenomena. His inventions of electromagnetic rotary devices formed the foundation of electric motor technology, and it was largely due to his efforts that electricity became viable for use in technology. As a chemist, Faraday discovered benzene, investigated the clathrate hydrate of chlorine, invented an early form of the bunsen burner and the system of oxidation numbers, and popularized terminology such as anode, cathode, electrode, and ion. Although Faraday received little formal education and knew little of higher mathematics, such as calculus, he was one of the most influential scientists in history. Some historians of science refer to him as the best experimentalist in the history of science

vowel and consonant. Experiment 1: purpose in Experiment 1 was to determine whether listeners can distinguish between self-identified gay and heterosexual male speakers of American English upon hearing word-length stimuli. Experiment 2: The purpose of Experiment 2 was to determine which phonemes, such as a vowel or consonant, listeners rely on when forming their sexual orientation judgments. Furthermore, in this experiment, we investigated whether listeners could differentiate between self-identified gay and heterosexual male speakers of American English upon hearing a single phoneme. We can summarize our results with two main conclusions. First, listeners can distinguish between highly characteristic gay and heterosexual speakers of American English upon hearing a phoneme. Second, listeners primarily rely on vowels to form their judgments, but they may also rely on some consonants to a lesser extent.

whether the questions in the questionnaire reflect the study objectives. In the next step, the concept questionnaire should be pretested with a small group of real respondents, using so called cognitive lab methods. These are qualitative techniques to investigate whether and when errors occur in the question-answer process. The first step in the question answer process is understanding the question. Therefore, the first thing that is investigated in a pretest is if the respondents understand the question and the words used in the question as intended by the researcher. Usually questions are adapted and/or reformulated, based on the results of questionnaire pretests. For a good description of pretesting, methods, see Campanelli Chapter 10. Whenever a question is reformulated, there is the danger of changing its original (intended) meaning, and thus introducing a new specification error

He broke with both when Morel became one of the leaders of the pacifist movement during the First World War, and when Casement committed treason against the UK during the Easter Rising out of conviction for his Irish nationalist views. Conan Doyle tried, unsuccessfully, to save Casement from the death penalty, arguing that he had been driven mad and was not responsible for his actions. Conan Doyle was also a fervent advocate of justice, and personally investigated two closed cases, which led to two imprisoned men being released. The first case, in 1906, involved a shy half-British, half-Indian lawyer named George Edalji, who had allegedly penned threatening letters and mutilated animals. Police were set on Edalji's conviction, even though the mutilations continued after their suspect was jailed. It was partially as a result of this case that the Court of Criminal Appeal was established

This is the principle of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. Evolutionary psychology is grounded on the principle that as genes mutate, those that are advantageous are passed down through natural selection. One example of evolutionary research is the study of emotions. Fessler has carried out research on disgust. He argues that the emotion of disgust allowed our ancestors to survive long enough to produce offspring, who in turn passed the same sensitivities to us. He investigated nausea experienced by women in their first trimester of pregnancy. During this period, certain hormones lower the level of the mother's immune system, so the body will not fight the new foreign genetic material in her womb. Fessler hypnotized that the nausea response helps to compensate the suppressed immune system. He gathered almost 500 healthy pregnant women and asked them to consider potentially stomach-turning scenarios. He found that women

If Re number is low, we have laminar flow. Much number is commonly used to represent the speed of an object when it is traveling close to or above the speed of sound. Froude number is used to determine the resistance of an object moving through water, and permits the comparison of objects of different sizes. For Fr < 1 the flow is called a subcritical flow, further for Fr > 1 the flow is characterised as supercritical flow. When Fr 1 the flow is denoted as critical flow. 6. How can be investigated fluid flow with heating? 1 If we have changing in the temperature, we should use special type of equation (add equation for density). In this case we have dependence of the density in coordinates. When changes are very small, we can neglect them. 7. What means Boussinesq's approximation? In fluid dynamics, the Boussinesq approximation is used in the field of buoyancy-driven flow (also known as natural convection)

In 1698 Peter sent a delegation to Malta, under boyar Boris Sheremetev, to observe the training and abilities of the Knights of Malta and their fleet. Sheremetev investigated the possibility of future joint ventures with the Knights, including action against the Turks and the possibility of a future Russian naval base. Peter's visits to the West impressed upon him the notion that European customs were in several respects superior to Russian traditions. The cantilever method of erection, devised by Colonel Henry Flad and used for the first time in the USA, eliminated the centring that would have been impossible in the wide, deep, and fast-flowing Mississippi. While recovering from illness in France, the designer James Buchanan Eads found the solution to sinking piers in deep water. He investigated a bridge under construction over the Allier at Vichy that used Cubitt and Wright's pneumatic caissons - floorless chambers filled with compressed air. The first major bridge of steel in France was the Viaur Viaduct (1902), a three-hinged steel arch of 721ft (220m) flanked by 311ft (95m) cantilevers. The crowning achievement of the material during the 19th century, however, was the mighty Forth Railway Bridge in Scotland (1890). Its design was motivated by the Tay Bridge disaster

The variables investigated were flow rate inside a submerged helical coil and agitation of the bath. To investigate the change in heat transfer coefficient in different situations, a simple experiment was set up. It consisted of a rectangular isolated tank, which was filled with water, submerged steel coil and an agitator. A rotameter was used to measure the flow rate, and a pump was used to force the water through the coil. A thermocouple was placed at each end of

Ideally, information from the marketplace should flow as far upstream and in as close to real time as possible. In this way all the parties in the supply chain work to the same information and reduce their dependency on the forecast. At the same time opportunities for postponing the final configuration of finished inventory should be investigated. The aim of the global supply chain should be to carry inventory in a generic form, i.e. standard semi- finished products awaiting final assembly or localisation. Managing the global supply chain requires a level of agility and responsiveness several magnitudes greater than that required in the old model of 'local for local' manufacturing. Emphasis will increasingly have to be placed on creating a business model that recognises that competitive

For example, it has been questioned whether the use of a definite description does really entail even contextual uniqueness (see Szabó 2000, 2003; Abbott 2003). More generally, the relations between definite and indefinite descriptions have come under scrutiny (Szabó 2000 again; Ludlow and Segal 2004.)
