1 Wave energy Introduction to wave energy There are several possibilities to harvest different forms of energy from the sea. One of these options is the usage of waves for the generation of electricity. The devices needed to perform this task are called wave energy converters. Wave energy is indirect solar energy in twice. At first there is the wind, which is caused by variations in atmospheric pressure due to a differential solar heating of earth's surface by the sun. Different regions of pressure drives a force which rises a movement of atmospheric air masses that causes the earths wind system. If wind strikes over the surface of an open water, waves are induced. First they are very flat with only a low level of energy. Many scientists criticized Mr. Hansen's report, and the debate over global warming continues today. Current fears stem largely from the fact that global warming is occurring at such a rapid pace. Models are predicting that over the next century, the global temperature will rise by several degrees. Some scientists still do not think that the effects of global warming are as severe as some people say. They think that droughts, hurricanes, and floods often blamed on global warming might actually have other causes. One major difficulty in studying global warming is the fact that weather data only exists for the last century and a half. Secondly, water pollution is also a main issue. Many peole throw rubbish in rivers and lakes. Ships at the sea cause oil problems, where oil flows in the water and causes a lot of damage, like killing the sea animals and also birds, who are on the seacoast, where the oil reaches. When these problems continue, soon we won't be able to swim in a clean body of water and the drinking water becomes unusable. In some places there are floods after the snow melts or in autumn, when raining cause sea level rising. When water retreats, it brings along trash and rubbish from the streets in the sea or rivers. Many peole have built ramparts, to avoid the consequence of floods and also picked up rubbish from coasts, where seawaves have washed the trash. Endangered animals
