Acid Rain

Acid rain is any precipitation that is unusually acidic. It possesses elevated levels of hydrogen ions(it has low pH level). Acid rain is caused by emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, which react with water molecules. Distilled water(doesn't contain CO 2), has pH level 7. Liquids with pH level less than 7 are acidic, liquids with pH level greater than 7 are alkaline. Unpolluted rain has a pH level over 5.7, so it is slightly acidic. Affected areas Places significantly impacted by acid rain around the globe include most of eastern Europe from Poland northward into Scandinavia, the eastern third of the United States and southeastern Canada. Other affected areas include the southeastern coast of China and Taiwan Causes · It is caused when sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. In the atmosphere they react with water, oxygen and other

How has Margaret Thatcher affected Britain

Margaret Thatcher is former British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990 and leader of the conservative party from 1975 to 1990. She is the first and only woman to hold either post. Since her resignation, Thatcher has remained active in the politics of the United Kingdom, as well as the world. She was raised to the House of Lords by the conferment of a life peerage as Baroness Thatcher. Margaret Thatcher has affected Britain in many ways. Thatcher was committed to reducing the power of the trades unions. Several unions launched strikes in response to legislation introduced to curb their power, but these actions eventually collapsed, and gradually Thatcher's reforms reduced the power and influence of the unions. Also, though an early backer of decriminalization of male homosexuality, Thatcher, at the 1987 Conservative party conference, issued the statement that "Children who need to be taught

problem. But what are the biggest problems in Estonia, why and how people could solve it? Air, water, and land pollution rank among Estonia's most significant environmental challenges. The combination of 300,000 tons of dust from the burning of oil shale by power plants in the northeast part of the country and airborne pollutants from industrial centers in Poland and Germany poses a significant hazard to Estonia's air quality. Estonia's water resources have been affected by agricultural and industrial pollutants, including petroleum products, which have also contaminated the nation's soil. Some rivers and lakes within the country have been found to contain toxic sediments in excess of 10 times the accepted level for safety. The nation's land pollution problems are aggravated by the 15 million tons of pollutants that are added yearly to the existing 250 million tons of pollutants. In 1994, 24,000 acres of the country's total land area were affected

Animals shrinking in the heat

This could force some creatures, that people eat, to become extinct, Dr David Bickford from the National University of Singapore reviewed research showing creatures from deer to tortoises, gulls, goshawks and even polar bears have already shrunk over the past 50 years. 'Because recent climate change may be faster than past historical changes in climate, many organisms may not respond or adapt quickly enough. The species that can adapt are the species that will be affected by potential declines in body size.' Researches say warmer and drier conditions have seen an increase in droughts which have shrunk some plants, and acidification of the ocean has affected the size of algae and plankton which are at the bottom of the food chain. Experimental research has also shown that for every degree Celsius of warming, plants of various types shrank by between 3 and 17 percent, up to 4 per ent in marine animals, and up to 22 percent in fish.

The Life of Indigenous Australian Children.

The Life of Indigenous Australian Children The forced removal of indigenous children happened in every state and territory of Australia. The separation of Aboriginal children started in Victoria and New South Wales as early as 1885 and, in some states, was not stopped until the 1970s. About 85% of Aboriginal families have been affected in some way, either by having children taken away from them or by being forced to make major decisions to avoid having their children taken. Mothers of some Aboriginal children would cover their fair-skinned children with black clay; hide them in trees, behind sand dunes, or in hollow logs. Families were moving constantly, to keep one step ahead of "welfare." Some families said that they were Italian, Maori, or Greek, leaving

Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis Kristjan Rannaäär Veterinary medicine, 2. year, 2. group Abstract Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) is a highly contagious ocular disease and big problem in cattle farms worldwide. It is the most common ocular disease of cattle caused by bacteria Moraxella bovis. This study focuses on IBK despite having low mortality rate and complete recovery, it causes significant loss of productivity in the herds affected due to the costs of treatment and considerable impact on afflicted animals, including blindness. This research is focused on the details, such as risk factors, pathogenesis, etiology, clinical signs prevention, transmission, and treatment, which animal handlers should be aware of to minimize the harm caused by IBK. Vaccination does not ensure lifelong immunity and not prevent a primary and reinfection of the cattle. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the cattle in a

There should be a complete ban on the advertising of dangerous products like cigarettes and alcohol

Should they be banned? Are they useful? Most of these ads are meant for people who don't smoke or drink alcohol and since most of the adults already do one or both of them, they are mainly made for children. It's not like the tobacco or alcohol companies would agree with me on that, but this is how I see it. That makes me agree with the ban, to keep children away from bad habits. People who already smoke or drink mostly don't care about the advertisements and are not affected by them. It can clearly be seen that such adverts are only useful for the companies who gain money from new "addicts". Since new smokers increase pollution and make streets full of cigarette packs then it's very bad for people who want to live a good life on our planet. Because of all that I totally agree on a complete ban on the advertising of dangerous products. It wouldn't affect old users, but could help to prevent other people from starting. I think there

that a metal plate was missing from between two pipes in the Union Carbide Corporation in which water managed to reach the MIC tank. The chemical reaction between water and MIC caused a major temperature and pressure rise in the tank which allowed the toxic gas to escape from the emergency pipes. The gas was not neutralized, as the three fundamental emergency systems failed to work. The gas killed up to 10, 000 people in 3 days and approximately 35, 000 by 1994. The gas affected soil and water to the point that agriculture in Bhopal is unusable. In conclusion this demonstrates the need for consistent mainteance in pesticide plants, power plants and all ohter industrial plants. Corporations can not save money in the expense of safety, because there is always an intensive risk. Advantages of fast food is that it's made easily and fast. You just go maybe to McDonald's and you buy your meal about 5-8 minutes and your meal is done. You have full stomach and you are happy about 2-4 hours and then you're hungry again. More advantages are that it's so easily available and cheap, you can get it in drive-in and you can order it home. It's good business to let people it that stuff. Disadvantages because people are addicted to it and it has affected their life harshly. And the workers there aren't so polite. There was article that they have been given wrong change back or spit in peoples food. Or they make fries with oil that has been there about 4-8 weeks. And what they offer to people isn't healthy at all. The use only the cheapest ingredients. People think that they it fast food then they don't have to cook at home. It's more easy and saves time. For and against globalization. "One world, one language, one currency, one religion, one law, and equality" is the motto of globalization. To end globalization we must end as soon as possible all trading barriers that are between the different countries. We must send our products to all markets and make sure that all the markets are going to be affected. If all markets are connected with each other then they will start to compete and that removes inefficient producers. Furthermore it will rise the quality of products higher and reduces their cost. Secondly different products and technological progresses are going to spread faster all over the globe. It gives unlimited access for the poorer people all over the Word to get the cheapest source of desired goods and services.

Floods and Tsunamis

Flood is a natural event or occurrence where a piece of land that is usually dry land, suddenly gets submerged under water. Some floods can occur suddenly and recede quickly. Others take days or even months to build and discharge. When floods happen in an area that people live, the water carries along objects like houses, bridges, cars, furniture and even people. It can wipe away farms, trees and many more heavy items. Floods occur at irregular intervals and vary in size, duration and the affected area. It is important to note that water naturally flows from high areas to low lying areas. This means low-lying areas may flood quickly before it begins to get to higher ground. Flooding is extremely dangerous and has the potential to wipe away an entire city, coastline or area, and cause extensive damage to life and property. It also has great erosive power and can be extremely destructive, even if it is a foot high. A tsunami (pronounced sue-nahm-ee) is a series of huge waves that can

Recently has nothing happened here. This huge manor has been vacant for nearly a hundred years. It was cleared of human-kind by a spirit so malevolent no one will step foot inside. A master loved beer and whiskey. But he was incredibly mean and evil. He had no respect for others. Perhaps, he himself was affected by something paranormal but we don't know it. So much hatred and violence came from this master, that his household was held in deep fear for a very long time. It is actually a story of those who did nothing to stop the master doing anything he wanted to do. Caught in a trap of fear, the ghosts that exist in this ancient place are those who had opportunity to overturn the master, but never acted to do so. The evil master has never been seen, only his victims. Howling and wailing have been heard

Kristin Loit Advertising has a bad influence on children Advertising is one way of marketing. The aim of advertising is to get people's attention that people would buy one particular company's products or services. Commercials and ads are not only directed to adults but also for children's. The good thing of advertising is that it helps us to become aware of the products in the market and the bad thing is the negative effect on childrens. To begin with, childrens are defenseless. They do not understand the ads or commercials, they do not know that it is only a business plan. Advertisements are made in such a way as to attract the attention of children. How does the United States influence Estonia?

The United States of America is one of the most influential countries in the world. Its’ influence can be seen even in Estonia. Estonian national security is built upon being a member of NATO and it is dependent on Article 5. Therefore, it is important for us to be in good political relations with America because it is the most influential member of the organization. To stay in good terms some of our political decisions might be affected by the United States, however, it will stay out of the public view. Although Estonia is not directly dependant on America economically but as the United States’ economy has an effect on the global economy, we are bound to be influenced indirectly. In the cultural aspect, Americanisation is taking spreading all over the world. In our everyday life, we are exposed to American culture because it is everywhere: music, films, food. With

erosion. The chemical processes are complicated and need special circumstances to react. As a result of those, concrete usually cracks. (slide) Sea water, however, may fill the pores of concrete in marine areas, which makes it even more durable. And finally, concrete usually contains steel constructions to shear strength and compensate stressed areas. (slide) But if the concrete gets damaged, the steel is also affected by corrosion. The corrosion is mainly caused by CO2 or chlorides, which can be found in sea water and road de-icing salts. To avoid these problems stainless steel and chemical admixtures should be used. (slide) That's all. Thank you for listening!

Learn From Mistakes, Improve Your Intelligence

when you see the same problem, you lose interest and get tired of your duty. Take the same problem and leave it unaccomplished, you think about it frequently and for that you'll not get bored with your job. Simple truth about getting over your sadness that may include in the quest to victory is, just ask yourself: ,,What sadness?" Keep calm and carry on! When you get overwhelmed by the failure, just take a break, deliberate it but whatever you do your trail of thoughts mustn't get affected by it. Still keeping focus on the problem will not only get it solved but it will keep you from causing new unnecessary problems. Now I ask, would you get wiser and improve your knowledge by learning from your mistakes, as to understand where have you gone wrong or would you be the one that thinks there's only one right choice and one answer to all dilemmas. At this very moment i'm writing this essay thinking will I get a polished grade or will my teacher give me an inadequate grade so I can

or gangsters. As a result, they attempt to follow their lead, which often leads to the development of negative models of behavior. Also, some people think that fighting scenes, explosions, shooting scenes and other violent elements of movies are so awesome and they also want to spice up their lives and do something “cool”. The impact of TV violence may be immediately evident in a child’s behavior or may surface years later, and young people can even be affected when the family atmosphere shows no tendency toward violence. However, this does not mean that violence on television is the only source for aggressive or violent behavior, but it is a significant contributor. After taking some negative character from the movie as a model, people will start to behave really stupidly, aggressively or dangerously. Some people start to pick a quarrel to get into a fight, but usually it ends with some bruises and bleeding nose

of religion and speech. People fleeing persecution in Europe eagerly settled in the colony. Men like Penn set an example which helped spread democratic ideals and practice throughout the colonies. As time passed, the colonists began to present the governing power that Britain exercised over them. In 1774, a group of leaders from the colonies met and formed the Continental Congress, which informed the king of the colonists' belief that they should have a voice in determining laws that affected them. The king and the conservative government paid no need to the concerns of the colonists. In 1772, fighting broke out between New England militia and British soldiers. On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress issued a Declaration of Independence, primarily written by Thomas Jefferson, a farmer and lawyer from Virginia. This document declared that from that time the United Colonies were no longer colonies of England, but free and independent states named the United States of America

different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth. Appropriate conservation and sustainable development strategies attempt to recognize this as being integral to any approach. In some way or form, almost all cultures have recognized the importance of nature and its biological diversity for their societies and have therefore understood the need to maintain it. Yet, power, greed and politics have affected the precarious balance. Why Is Biodiversity Important? Who Cares? · Why is Biodiversity important? Does it really matter if there aren't so many species? · Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter how small, all have an important role to play. · For example, a larger number of plant species means a greater variety of crops; greater species diversity ensures natural sustainability for all life

TWILIGHT-CHAPTER ONE-FIRST SIGHT

Summary: We meet high school junior Isabella Swan, or Bella as she prefers to be called. She is a very pale skinned brunette with a quick mind and a sarcastic sense of humor. She is leaving her mother and stepfather's home in Phoenix, Arizona to live with her father in Forks, Washington. She feels she needs to give her mother, Renee, space to be with her new husband, Phil, who is a minor league baseball ballplayer. She's apprehensive about moving in with her dad, Charlie, who is the town's sheriff. Up until now, they have only ever spent parts of summers together. Bella hasn't been to Forks in three years. Forks couldn't be more different than sunny, metropolitan Phoenix if it tried. The weather is cool, overcast, and clammy most days. Forks High School, where Bella is to start school the following day only has 358 students including Bella. Charlie picks Bella up at the Port Angles airport. Bella finds conversing with Charlie stilted ...

But what about the other two thirds? Is is better for them to have not been able to use this huge network, or is it a bad thing? The first biggest concerns are the communication sites because they are used too often and they tend to change the view how we understand the term ,,personal relationships". The most popular social network-Facebook-was launched in 2004 and it has become one of the best earning web sites there is. Now, there are over one billion users. Unfortunately, it has affected the social life and activity of people in various ways. Many people are becoming to think that it is enough when they communicate with their friends only on Facebook. The word ,,friend" is becoming to mean a person who is in your Facebook friend list and that is it. There have been more than 100 billion friend connections on Facebook. It is really nice to be able to connect with someone in a second but people should watch more carefully how these networks affect their real life relationships.

From nameplate, we get that the nominal currents are 1,7 / Y 1,0A. From the experiment with connection, we get that the nominal current is 0.75A without boosting and 0.8A with boosting and that the maximal current is 2.6A without boosting and 2.8 with boosting. The differences in experimental data come from using a lower frequency of 25 Hz instead of the rated frequency of 50 Hz for which the motor was designed for. Also the experimental current characteristics are affected by the characteristics of the load machine. 4.2 On the timing diagram of the block and sinusoidal patterns at 25 Hz, find the number of sectors and the number of pulses in a sector in both cases. Tolerance and Diversity

"Tolerance" is a noun with profound meaning. It has been built on an individual opinion, on the influence of friends and how the society affects people. Human nature is one-sided, because they believe in exact stereotypes of people and try to follow them. Many characteristics are also immediately being added to the person's characteristics according to its origin. It is better if you never evaluate anything by its appearance in order not to come to the wrong conclusion. People are very easily affected. Media and television are the main influencers. People today just watch television, read newspapers, magazines and take almost everything they say very seriously. Sometimes it seems that people's brains have been paralyzed by the media. They are not able to think themselves, which leads them to stereotypes created by mass media. Today young people are more tolerant than the elder ones. They don't have stereotypes of people built in their mind

was a very good or a very bad thing. Of course any kind of oppression should not be approved of and actually the Empire and native British forced on their way of life and culture to the colonies. On the other hand the Empire also helped its subjects to develop in a positive sense. In overall Britain ruled several parts of the world, like India, parts of Africa, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia, but also Ireland. Just to prove my point I will give some examples how the British Empire affected its subjects. In the 19th century British culture and way of life became predominate in Ireland. In the 1840s the potato crop failed two years in a row and a terrible famine occurred. Millions of peasants, those with Irish Gaelic language and customs either died or emigrated. As a result by the end of the century almost the whole population were using English as their first language. On the other hand the British Empire is not considered to be a very imposing ruler.

effecting my future child and saying that being homo sexual is better and so on, that i would tolerate, of course. Also I would not like them to have babies because in my point of view children need usual, traditional family, because having for example 2 fathers may cause problems with other children and life would be harder and stranger. Nowadays attitude towars black people is changed but there were times when they were hated and treater evilly. This was not just race problem, it was also affected by cultural differences. Now people are more tolerate but still is seen that some people do not treat them as eqaul. There are so many different religions all over the world. Usually those religions do not bother us but for example islam and also jews are not tolerated in some parts of the world. For me it is quite hard to understand because first of all, we, Estonians and me myself also are mostly not deeply religious and I am not sure if I really know what religion means to them
