The Tomb of Frederick the Great ● The Tomb of Frederick the Great was a subject to which Old Fritz, as he was popularly known, gave a great deal of thought. Frederick the Great died on August 17, 1786 in the armchair of his study in Sanssouci. ● He wished to be buried in a tomb next to his "Weinberghäuschen" and next to his favourite dogs.

BELLING THE CAT The Mice once called a meeting to decide on a plan to free themselves of their enemy, the Cat. At least they wished to find some way of knowing when she was coming, so they might have time to run away. Indeed, something had to be done, for they lived in such constant fear of her claws that they hardly dared stir from their dens by night or day. Many plans were discussed, but none of them was thought good enough. At last a very young Mouse got up and said: "I have a plan that seems very simple, but I know it will be successful. All we have to do is to hang a bell about the Cat's neck

When the longer nights and story days reminded them of winter, Quiss-an-Kweedass wanted to revisit his home, and to make the journey alone. He promised to return on the fourth day. 5 E Her parents were glad to have their lost child, and Quiss-an-KJweedass was happy to have his wide. Although she was at home and kindly welcomed, she was worried about her two sons and wished to return for them. She explained that the bear had made up a song for her, and if Quiss-an-Kweedass went to the tree and sang it, the bear chief would give him whatever he wished. After learning the song, Quiss-an-Kweedass went to the tree and began to sing. As soon as the bear heard the song, he came down, thinking that Kind-a-wuss had returned. When he saw that she was not there, he was upset and refused to let the children go

The Price of Everlasting Youth Everlasting youth is something that people value most when they are already older. But Dorian captured the ideal moment which he wanted to be eternal. His decision was influenced by Harry's ideas and the portrait of him where he saw how beautiful he was. Dorian wished that he could remain young forever and his portrait would get older. Harry was a friend of Basil's, the artist who painted Dorian's picture, and he had quite peculiar ideas of life. He told Dorian that youth is the most relevant in life and that everyone should enjoy it. Basil knew that Harry wouldn't be good influence for young boy, but he wasn't able to prevent their encounter. Over time Harry's ideas fix in Dorian's mind and he changes into someone that he was not like before
It was made of wood and in a really bad condition. I saw the smoke coming from the chimney. I walked, scared, towards the tiny house, I was afraid to go in but I still entered. The house was really dusty. I was looking around, when suddenly a door appeared. I opened it and i was pulled in. The stair steps appeared one after another. I was really confused and at that moment I wished I had never got out of my kayak. I was walking down, when suddenly the stair steps started to get warmer and warmer. My legs couldn’t handle the heat, so I started running. The steps behind me began to explode and I ran fast down the stairs. I looked around and I noticed a little creature standing next to me. It was really short and green. The creature turned its head to me and said:”Hello, who are you
think that life was worse 50 years ago than now. Why was it so? Firstly, nowadays we can speak about many comforts, which 50 years ago was not so. In 1950s' there were any conveniences at all everything had to be made by yourself and people were living a poor life. People did not have the chance to own expensive technics(as a matter of fact some of them were not invented yet or it just had not been that widespread), wear the clothes they would have liked and live a life like they had always wished. Even if they tried hard to pursue to the highs, the chance of getting somewhere was close to zero. Nowadays, people can afford themselves a good and livable life, having the work done by machines, wear the clothes they want to and feel free to become more and more successful every day. Secondly, 50 years ago, people had very limited rights, which made them kind a shy and sour. Even getting a job was a complicated act, because there were not many workstations

And there are people who have nothing, but they are pleased and happy. This book proved that the most important thing in this life is to be friend with yourself, to find peace. I don’t mean peace in the world or peace in home, I mean peace in ourselves, in our soul and heart. For some time I have been a bit confused because I am, right now, living on my dream and sometimes it feels like I can’t have these big, often unreal dreams I used to have. “When you have everything you’ve ever wished for, have ever wanted and planned for, what’s there more to have and look forward to then?” This book made me believe again that there is always something missing, something to do or something where to develop. I thought a lot what I should write in this paragraph, namely this is for the things I didn’t like. I enjoyed this book. Doris Lessing truly could write. The sentences were written so well, I felt like I was reading a poem

She was also asking about the reasons why he came here. For 20 years the hotel was being visited only by the pilots. She could understand that he wasn't a sea-fairing man and probably not an inspector of customs too. She told him about Captain Bartlett, who was a queer fish. She lit the candle and wished him good night. He met Captain Bartlett at dinner the next day and he was so happy because he had only eaten turtle soup in Thursday Island. He mentioned that he spoke French and Captain Bartlett asked me to go and see French Joe. French Joe was 93 years old and lived in a hospital for last two years, not because he was ill, but because he was old and poor. He was in really big flannel pyjamas, but he was a little shrivelled man with bright eyes

Writing and Me When I was younger I absolutely loved to read books and desperately yearned to be a writer. The idea of waking up in the morning and not having to go to work appealed to me, I imagined the life of a writer as something relaxed and effortless. If I were a writer I could sleep until noon if I wished to, take my morning coffee to the balcony, light a cigarette, let the sun lightly kiss my face and just write. About anything. And it would come naturally. Except it did not. Do you know the feeling after you wake up from a really good dream? When you are desperately clinging to it, trying to remember everything, but it all just floats away as if you were trying to catch smoke with your bare hands? That is what writing feels like to me. I used

He soon realised it wasn't going to be as easy, when Megan came to blackmail him, telling she had seen everything. Mr Symmington tried to get rid of her by drugging her with sleeping pills and pulling her to a gas stove, trying to murder her. He was stopped by Jerry and the police. It was then revealed that Miss Marple wished to prove Mr. Symmington's guilt in that way, and Megan was brave enough to assist her. He committed the murders because he wished to marry his children's governess. Aimee Griffith, in love with Symmington, had written only the letter to Miss. on the chessboard and the words in the book were only to be read through the looking-glass. Alice couldn't have left the place without seeing the garden so she ran outside where she met some talkative flowers and the Red Queen. The Red Queen was kind enough to help Alice to the top of the hill (and she actually had to walk in the other direction to reach the desired place). Once on the top of the hill Alice noted that the world seemed as if it were a chessboard and WISHED she could be a part of it a queen maybe. The Red Queen then helped her to the Second Square, making her Pawn and telling Alice that if she reaches the Eighth Square she can be a Queen and they shall have a feast. Alice then took the railway through the Third Square, as it is known that pawns can take two squares at their first move. When she exited the train with her new friend the Gnat she reached a forest where she was introduced to Looking-Glass bugs, for example Bread-and-
stand up for herself. She discovers that she and Torvald do not understand each other, and she was only his "doll-child"(1149). Nora becomes very self-assured as she decides to leave her home and be free of Torvald's oppression. She boldy states that Torvald "never loved (her)" (1149) and that she was leaving him and the children at once. This statement makes a mockery of Torvald's claim that he'd "often wished that (she) could be threatened by some imminent danger so that (he) could risk everything (he) had - even (his) own life itself" (1146) in order to keep her safe. Ultimately, their relationship will be over and Nora will be free of the pressure to be his doll. The terms of having a "perfect" life are far too steep if society's perception is held more important than family and a marriage. Torvald and Nora's relationship was doomed to
You're not the only one who feels like crying!" Suzan nodded and together they moved quickly forwards. Soon they reached the main entrance. The door was open, but no one seemed to be around. "What now? Shall we enter or run away?" "They got our parents...and probably Danny too..." "But Su, they didn't get us, remember?" "Then we must do them as much harm as we can, they'll catch us sooner or later!" "Leave it to me then! I'm an expert in getting in trouble!" The red-haired girl smiled and wished her sister good luck. Then she hid under the bushes that were quite far away from the house. In the meanwhile Creasha had spotted dad's car. Evil smile on her face, she entered it. She was really surprised over finding a considerable amount of weapons there. Not even thinking she took them with her and stepped out. No one was still around. Then, a pack of matches fell from the weapon-suitcase. "Well, well, well what do we have here?" she asked herself and soon the car was
Since actually one has nothing to lose, but tons to win. Life is like a rollercoaster, with its ups and downs, but if there were not any downfalls then people would not notice the luck and happiness in their lives. In conclusion I can honestly say that I liked this book a lot. I have also read the first part, which was as good as this one, but in the end I can say that they complement each other. I enjoyed reading it and there was not a time when I wished that it would be over already. I would recommend this novel to everybody who is interested in cultural communication and real life problems, which get clever solutions.
In 1837 Queen Victoria took the throne after the death of her uncle William IV. Due to her secluded childhood, she displayed a personality marked by strong prejudices and a willful stubbornness. Barely eighteen, she refused any further influence from her domineering mother and ruled in her own stead. Popular respect for the Crown was at a low point at her coronation, but the modest and straightforward young Queen won the hearts of her subjects. She wished to be informed of political matters, although she had no direct input in policy decisions. The Reform Act of 1832 had set the standard of legislative authority residing in the House of Lords, with executive authority resting within a cabinet formed of members of the House of Commons; the monarch was essentially removed from the loop. She respected and worked well with Lord Melbourne (Prime Minister in the early years of her reign) and England grew both socially and economically.

monopolistic control will bring into existence a better balanced and a more securely progressive economy. A socialised industry should be owned by the State and its technical management remain responsible to the nation. But it should retain all the advantages of small enterprise: plants that are small enough to be managed efficiently. With knowledge would come power. Better educated men and women, freed from the bonds of social subservience, would see more clearly the society in which they wished to live and guide more firmly the conduct of democratic policy by which alone their hopes can slowly be established in the practice of the nation. Economic planning and social equality are the ideas upon whose slow growth the purification of our social order chiefly ends. Before we can gather harvests or walk through open doors, we mus fight, endure and win this war. Victory is essential to social progress for two reasons. In the first place a continuity of

What does Higgins say to make a point that Eliza has no right to be angry? Higgins says that she is overreacting. He tells her that after she sleeps she will feel better. "It's only imagination. Low spirits and nothing else. Nobody's hurting you. Nothing's wrong. You go to bed like a good girl and sleep it off. Have a little cry and say your prayers: that will make you comfortable." Why does Eliza wish that she was dead? Why does she say that she wished Higgins had left her where he found her? She does not know what to do with herself, now that she has won the bet. She sold flowers. Now she is a lady. She is not fit to sell anything else. Now that the experiment is over, what does Higgins suggest Eliza to do? He suggests Eliza to open a florist's shop. A Modest Proposal is a direct proof of the above-mentioned quotation. It is a very complex work, masterful and abstruse satire with its deep idea of common principle the people compose the wealth of the country. However, the mentioned principle is effective if only the population is provided with jobs for livelihood. By creating the nameless projector, who promotes A Modest Proposal, Swift, illustrates the poor living standards in Ireland, where nobody wished to take any efficient measures to improve the situation. The satirical effect is created by the fact that through a dispassionate efficiency and accuracy of the good intentions, the fictitious author "projector" discovers a monstrous cruelty, and his manipulation of the precise calculations gives the appearance of a real project. Dante's vision expresses his personal experience, through images to convey his interpretation of the nature of human existence. He writes in the first person so the reader can identify and deeply understand the truths he wished to share about the meaning of life and man's relationship with the Creator. Dante is remembered as a great thinker and one of the most learned writers of all time. Many scholars consider his epic poem The Divine Comedy consisting of Inferno, Paradiso, and Purgatorio, among the finest works of all literature. Critics have praised it not only as magnificent poetry, but also for its wisdom and scholarly learning. Dante was a man who lived, who saw political and artistic

There are many Bank holidays: New Year's Day - 1 January. Tradition has it that the first person over the threshold on New Year’s Day will dictate the luck brought to the household in the coming year. That person usually brings a piece of coal, a loaf and a bottle of whiskey. On entering he must place the fuel on the fire, a loaf and a bottle on the table and pour a glass for the head of the house without speaking. He can speak when he has wished everyone ‘A Happy New Year’. Good Friday – Friday before Easter Day. It is traditional to eat warm 'hot cross buns' on Good Friday. going for job interviews." The over-fifties is a key category of career changers, says Laurie South, chief executive of PRIME, an independent organisation dedicated to helping this age group. "For a lot of people, it's because they're made redundant. For others, it's just about having had a dream all their life and thinking, 'If I don't do it now, when will I?'" he says. South advises people to go for it earlier if they can. "If I had £1,000 for every person I've helped that said they wished they'd done it sooner, I'd be in the south of France right now." John Lees and Steve Preston will both be speaking at One Life Live How life became a bed of roses The 10 most popular second careers Four years ago Clare Stokes, 34, worked as a pharmacist. The second hypothesis was true because 70% of the students ate breakfast regularly. The fourth hypothesis was true because while 80% of girls were aware of both healthy eating habits and breakfast importance, then only 40% of boys were aware of them. The purpose of the research was to gather information about Pärnu Koidula Gymnasium's G1A class' students' knowledge and awareness about healthy eating habits and breakfast. In case of the occurrence of problems the authors wished to find solutions to them. The conclusion was that the students were aware but were not efficient at their use of time because most of the students who did not eat breakfast brought the reason that they did not have enough time. The authors suggest that there could be projects that help students to manage their time better. Also there should be more projects about eating healthy and the importance of
The convent was divided into three parts. The central part was the church with its 34-metre-high gable. The left wing was for the nuns and the priests lived in the right wing. The church building was completed and consecrated in 1436. Other buildings took longer to build they were completed at the beginning of the 16th century. The number of nuns was not to exceed sixty according to the regulations of the Order. A girl who wished to become a nun had to be at least 18 years old. The priests could not be younger than 25. The decline of the cloister began during the Livonian War (1558-1583). The fire of 1564 caused considerable damage to the buildings. The convent suffered its final destruction in 1577 at the hands of Ivan the Terrible. 5. Museums Kiek in de Kök is a tower in the Town Wall that stands on Harjumägi (Harju Hill), a former bastion
belonged to the Lutheran congregation from 1524 to 1950 (up to 1940 the congregation was German). Since 1950 the Union of Evangelical Christians and Baptist Churches of Estonia have used the church. The spire of the St Olaf`s Church has been opened to the public. The view of the Tallin Old Town and its vicinity is magnificent. Lore has it that citizens of Tallinn pursued two objectives at once when building the tower. Concerned about their sailors and guests of the city, they wished to erect a lighthouse that could be seen even from the shores of Finland. On the other hand, the magistrate and the citizens wanted to use the excesses of their funds to create such an architectural masterpiece for their hometown, the likes of which could not hav been found in any other European city. Tallinn's architects of the old days probably aimed to reach the Heavenly Father or to defy the skies at least. 14 Summary

George Herbert, Caroline piety expressed. His verse is sensitive and decorous, monument to „beauty of holiness”, practice of liturgy with good order and ritual which was the essence of Charles I’s religious policy. High Anglican piety. I wished you were something you were not! I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky...but why, why can't it be mine? Love is friendship caught on fire. This better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Pilgud on esimesed armastuskirjad(N.de Lenclos) Nõelasilma ei mahu kahte niiti ja südamesse kahte armastust.(Araabia vanasõna) Ärgem pidage kedagi, kes armastab, täiesti õnnetuks. Isegi vastamata armastusel on oma vikerkaar

Opportunities for smaller cultures and nations to access the knowledge of larger nations - 17 people 21 CONCLUSION There are no precedents in human history for what happens to languages, in such circumstances of rapid change. There has never been a time when so many nations were needing to talk to each other so much. There has never been a time when so many people wished to travel to so many places. There has never been such a strain placed on the conventional resources of translating and interpreting. Never has the need for more widespread bilingualism been greater, to ease the burden placed on the professional few. And never has there been a more urgent need for a global language.
