Princess Margaret was also a fan of jazz and would sometimes visit Ronnie Scott's club in Soho. Princess Diana: Duran Duran Princess Diana declared Duran Duran to be "her favourite band" but she was also rather fond of Bryan Adams. Estuary English - A Controversial Issue?

1. The geographical dimension: Is `Estuary' English estuary? Estuary English is a dialect of English widely spoken in South East England, especially along the River Thames and its estuary. Phonetician John C. Wells defines Estuary English as "Standard English spoken with the accent of the southeast of England".[1] The name comes from the area around the Thames, particularly London, Kent, north Surrey and south Essex. The variety first came to public prominence in an article by DavidRosewarne in the Times Educational Supplement in October 1984. [2] Rosewarne argued that it may eventually replace RP (Received Pronunciation) in the south-east. Studies have indicated that Estuary English is not a single coherent form of English; rather, the reality behind the construct consists of some (but not all) phonetic features of working-class

The influence of television

The influence of television Television in Estonia started with broadcast experiments in the 1930's. Regular long broadcasted days started when Estonia was in the Soviet Union. That time there weren't very many channels and some were Finnish. Today there are big variety of channels, both cable and public television network, but technically Estonia has gone over to digital television. Television came more popular in Estonia in the 1970's, when there were more coloured TV's published. Almost every home had at least one TV. What I Think of Homereading

These days it is easy to find books, the library is full of books and there are many webpages where reader can read e-books online. Reading is not only fun and entertaining but it also improves your writing skill. From books we can learn many new words and write better essays in school. It really improves language and I don't mean foreign language but also native language. We can learn many new ways of saying things and so we can make our writing and talking much colorful by variety of words. I think that is very important for us to learn new words because if we hear them from news, tv, radio or read them from newspaper, magazine we know the meaning of the word. Knowing variety of words also shows our intelligence. Reading in foreign language is the one of the best ways to learn another language. For example, if someone goes to England or America they hear the language, but the words sound much different than they are written

The media was used to deceive the population and people were made to believe what was politically needed. It seems the times have changed, people are free of propaganda and modern communication methods could easily see through such scams. The population thinks that with such a high number and variety of different international media publications it would be impossible to deceive the public. The truth is media manipulation and propaganda is still all around us. Global news and magazines still dominate what kind of news see on television and latest fashion determines which clothes to wear. Roddick is known for his powerful first serve, usually serving at around 130-150 mph (209~242 km/h), which he uses to earn free points with aces and unreturnable serves. His first serve is known to some as the "Roddick Serve" since he abbreviates the serve by removing part of the motion. He usually targets the two corners to win aces. As for his second serve, he usually employs a heavy kick serve, then tries to use a variety of spins, slices, and angles in the rally to throw off his opponent. He is noted to use heavy topspin on both his serves and his twist serve is probably the highest-kicking serve anyone hits. Roddick will also occasionally use the serve-and-volley tactic on both first and second services to surprise his opponent, though he generally prefers to remain near the baseline after a serve. Despite all this, Roddick

School buffet's offer unhealthy chips and pies but very little healthy vegetables and fruits so I would make buffets healthier. Secondly, I believe that it would make classes more effective to watch different educational movies. Doing the same thing from day to day is simply boring and some variety would surely increase students' interest in class. The third thing I would do to spice up life at school is organizing more fieldtrips. There are many different cultural and historical exhibits and museums kids may never visit unless they skip classes to do so. To sum up, I would say that although the Minister of Education could change a lot, our school life today is pretty good.

I saw your advertisement in my local newspaper and booked the service for my 21 st birthday party with high hopes. Unfortunately I was terribly disappointed. Firstly, a huge variety of dishes is promised in your advertisement. To my surprise when I asked about some, I was told that many of them were not available. The second thing that was below standards was delivery. I do not believe that prompt delivery means food arriving late. When the food finally arrived, it was cold! Another problem was your staff. The waiters were simply rude to my guests! I was embarrassed especially because I had told my guests to expect a friendly service.

Essay: Living in a City

Nowadays more and more people are moving from the countryside to the cities. Why? There are many advantages of living in a city. There are more opportunities to find a job and to promote one's career. There are usually better schools and universities are founded in cities, too. On the other hand are cities pretty noisy, therefore it can create a restless environment for concentrated studying. A big advantage of living in a city is the variety of entertainment concerts, theatres, cinemas, restaurants and cafes, nightclubs and so on. However, in the countryside people can enjoy the silence and relax without paying any money. Also, in the countryside the environment is much greener and cleaner as in the cities the air is more polluted, which can damage our health. Living in a city, people have much better accessibility for things in need, like food, medications etc

Working at home or in an office

In many cases workers who work at home are more creative and their working results are better. Sometimes lack of inspiration or poor working results may be caused by the small office. Working at home has also some negative sides. When working at home workers can not communicate with each others from face to face. In my opinion teamwork is very important in most of the companies. When all the workers work at home then it is hard to make important decisions. All in all people need variety in their lives then it is good when they can work at office and some days at home.

Being an exchange student – a useful experience or a waste of time?

Being an exchange student a useful experience or a waste of time? I have always wanted to be an exchange student. I think that it would be a nice variety to the everyday life. In my opinion being an exchange student is a useful experience, but it also has some negative sides. Firstly there are some arguments that support being an exchange student. If a person has to manage in a totally new environment for a whole year, he or she gets a lot of experience for life away from parents. Exchange year also gives a great language practice. No matter which country an Estonian chooses, it would have a different mother language than we have.

Water

Water Imagine, it is a hot summer’s day, you are walking down the street, the sun is burning your skin, you have been walking quite a while now and suddenly, you feel you are thirsty. So what would you do …. Probably you go to the nearest store down the street and buy a bottle of water; a bubbly water, a vitamin water, a water from the fridge, there is so many variety of waters and still you have something to complain about how the water is to expensive how the day is too hot, how the water is too cold . And now imagine… imagine the people, who live in African deserts, imagine feeling thirsty and not having any water at all, not around you, not anywhere. People who live there they have to make long journeys or treks over rough and barren land to get water and when they finally reach to that hole in the ground, then that water there isn’t even clean

SWEDISH FOOD

8 things to know about Sweden's food culture Koostas: Martin Aulik introduction It’s safe to say Sweden’s food culture is much more than iconic meatballs and chewy fish- shaped candy. Here are eight things you should know about food traditions essential to Sweden everyday dining. Lingonberry — Sweden’s favorite sauce Just like ketchup and mustard, lingonberry sauce is widely used to accompany a variety of dishes, from meatballs and pancakes to porridge and blood pudding. But despite its sweetness, it is rarely used on bread. Thanks to the Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten), which gives everyone the freedom to roam and enjoy nature, many Swedes grow up picking lingonberries in the forest, and using these tiny tart red fruits to make the jam-like preserve. Open sandwiches When you order a sandwich, don’t be surprised if it involves just a single slice of bread.

Assessment report - fast food restaurant

To: Mr C. James, Manager From: Name, Assistant Manager Subject: Marco’s fast food restaurant Introduction The purpose of this report is to assess the good and bad points of Marco’s fast food restaurant and suggest any changes. It is based on my experiences as a customer. Food and prices Firstly, I am satisfied with prices, they are reasonable. But there is not a wide variety of dishes. You should add more dishes to your menu. Service Another thing to mention is that the staff was friendly and helpful. I think that a good staff means a lot for customers. But on the other hand, the service is a little too slow, particularly when the restaurant gets busy. More people should be hired. Atmosphere Finally, the restaurant looks really old and it does not look very clean anymore. I think that painting it again will give a really good result

Letter of protest

Dear Mr. Roberts, 14/01/2016 I am writing this letter to protest against the recent decision to close down the schools art studio. I would like to let you know that I truly believe it is a bad idea. First of all, the studio offers a large variety of services that aspiring artists can use. Very few students can allow themselves to have this opportunity and kind of equipment at home. Further more, the instructors in the studio help young promising artists discover and develop their talents. Secondly, the art studio is situated in an excellent place and is open round the clock, which is very convenient for the students as it allows them to relax and study there without going too far away from the school

English is the only foreign language worth learning

I do not see a problem talking in multiple languages. It only helps us develop and communicate with so many other language speaking people. Intercourse is what connects us, but to communicate with others we need to understand one another. What is more, we do not need to be so similar. Speaking some other language makes us more intriguing. Foreign languages are like crayons, all in different colours. Imagine if all the crayons would be in the same colour. If we paint a picture, we need a variety of colours to make the picture interesting. That is why we need to learn not only English, but many others languages too. Of course, there are people who argue that studying English is the only foreign language worth learning. Because it would unite us and make the communicating easier. But things do not have to be easy in life. All in all, I think learning other foreign languages, in addition to English, is important and necessary.

Report (näide)

The romantic novels account for one tenth of the chart. About 30% of the boys are interested in historical novels. Poetry makes up 9 percent of the results. Recommendations Seeing how Aru Secondary School students read books from only four different genres, I would like to give a few recommendations as to what kind of books to buy. I think there should be more autobiographies, fantasy novels and poetry. Conclusions To come to a conclusion, the library should expand the variety of the books. Mainly because Aru Secondary School students need broader horizons. It would benefit the whole school.
