1 Wave energy Introduction to wave energy There are several possibilities to harvest different forms of energy from the sea. One of these options is the usage of waves for the generation of electricity. The devices needed to perform this task are called wave energy converters. Wave energy is indirect solar energy in twice. Methane leaks from landfills are an ongoing problem, as is the production of biogas in poorly maintained compost piles, manure lagoons, and outhouses. Spontaneous fires and explosions caused by build-ups of gas have been recorded in many regions of the world, illustrating a major problem which needs to be confronted by waste management companies. When this gas is trapped, however, it can be made useful, instead of just being a nuisance. Trapped biogas can be used to power stoves for cooking and heating, in addition to other applications. By trapping the gases, people can prevent methane from reaching the atmosphere, thereby reducing degradation caused by methane gas. The ability to turn waste products into something which can be utilized is also rather convenient, especially in developing countries, where available resources may be limited. Sometimes just taking the time to discuss things with troubled people is a great favor and aid. I don't have much surplus money to give to worthy causes, yet donate my time freely. I don't pretend to be able to educate in general -- but do know enough about plant life in Seattle to be valuable teaching that. I suppose I could share my plant knowledge with a single student, or several, and it wouldn't make much difference to me. The whole role of apprenticeship and master-apprentice needs to be expanded beyond its present confines of carpentry, masonry, electricity, and the like. It is true all of us are genetically capable of only so much; that our upbringing and education can be the same yet we turn out differently because of our genes. Well, how should you or I raise kids? Or if we don't want to be parents, how do we help educate children in general?
It has been estimated that the world food production needs to double and meat production increase by 85% by 2050 to fulfill projected demand by population (Karp, 2011). In the recent decades, the food consumption in the most populous counties has shifted from grain-based diets to meat and dairy diets. Meat production requires times more biomass in the form of animal feed and that puts further pressures on natural resources. As food production is very energy intensive, it is closely linked to global energy consumption. Global fuel consumption has grown 50-fold since the end of the 20th century and it is projected to increase by another 55% by 2030 (Umbach, 2010). That is the reason why new resources for fuel are being sought and biofuels receive subsidies, and investment in development. In addition, transport sector is one of the largest primary energy consumers, and as the travel and car ownership is predicted to increase, more fuel needs to be dedicated to transport (Karp, 2011

BARRIERS TO DISTRICT HEATING DEVELOPMENT IN SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES Abstract District heating (DH) offers low primary energy demand, high security of supply and small CO 2 emissions. Barriers to DH in the UK, Ireland, France, Romania and the Czech Republic have been compiled through publications and interviews. DH systems require large investments, have negative initial cash flow and long payback time, which obstructs financing. One actor should control DH from source to consumption. If the value chain is fragmented, contracts are required between the links. It increases risks and

Given that the construction industry does not have a particularly good reputation among the public, the first part of this thesis focuses mainly on this problem and its sources. It is the reason why we need new and better business models, like LC and BIM, or even an integration of the two models. Both LC and BIM have been shown to have a profound impact on improving construction processes and therefore, project outcomes, as discussed in the third and the fourth chapters. Different studies and practical experience show that a combination of these originally independent approaches can ensure even better processes. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), which is discussed in the fifth chapter, is an example of this. In conclusion, a recommendation supported by research is made for improving the Estonian construction industrys performance.
