degree of self-incompatibility, pollen movement between plants by insects is important, and bee colonies have generally increased yields. In temperate regions, sunflower requires approximately 11 days from planting to emergence, 33 days from emergence to head visible, 27 days from head visible to first anther, 8 days from first to last anther, and 30 days from last anther to maturity. Cultivar differences in maturity are usually associated with changes in vegetative period before the head is visible. IV. Environment requirements: A. Climate: Sunflower is grown in many semi-arid regions of the world from Argentina to Canada and from central Africa into the Soviet Union. It is tolerant of both low and high temperatures but more tolerant to low temperatures. Sunflower seeds will germinate at 39°F, but temperatures of at least 46 to 50°F are required for satisfactory germination. Seeds are not affected by vernalization (cold) in the early germination stages

TheCodeBreakers

For 450 years, from about 1400 to about 1850, a system that was half a code and half a cipher dominated cryptography. It usually had a separate cipher alphabet with homophones and a codelike list of names, words, and syllables. This list, originally just of names, gave the system its name: nomenclator. Even though late in its life some nomenclators grew larger than some modern codes, such systems are still called "nomenclators" if they fall within this historical period. An odd characteristic is that nomenclators were always written on large folded sheets of paper, whereas modern codes are almost invariably in book or booklet form. The commercial code is a code used in business primarily to save on cable tolls; though some are compiled for private firms, many others are sold to the public and therefore provide no real secrecy. Most ciphers employ a key, which specifies such things as the arrangement of letters within a cipher

extended to denote the manner of expressing one's ideas in written or oral form. The precise definition was given by Jonathan Swift, who defined style as "proper words in proper places". In present day English the word "style" is used in about a dozen of principle meanings: 1. the characteristic manner in which a writer expresses his/her ideas (e.g. style of Byron). 2. the manner of expressing ideas, characteristic of a literary movement or period (e.g. symbolism, romanticism, renaissance). 3. the use of language typical of a literary genre (e.g. the style of a comedy, drama, novel). 4. the selective use of language that depends on spheres / areas of human activity (e.g. style of fiction, scientific prose, newspapers, business correspondence, etc.). These are called functional styles or registers. Stylistics is the study of style.

Study of heat transfer coefficient in helical coil

(Geankoplis, 1993) Consider a system formed by a tank filled with a mass of fluid inside which a helical coil is immersed. Inside the coil flows a cooling liquid at a given mass flow rate and the system is operating under unsteady state conditions. It is considered there is no heat loss to the exterior. The heat transfer coefficient in an unsteady state was calculated using the equation (15). The specific heats were considered constants and chosen for the average temperature. The average temperature for the bath was calculated from the beginning and end temperatures of the experiment. Average temperature for the water inside the coil was calculated by taking the average between the inlet temperatures and outlet temperatures. The equation to calculate the heat transfer coefficient considering there is no heat loss was derived from the principle equations in heat transfer (3, 4, and 5). An energy balance to the fluid inside the bath at instant t is given by: dq dT

Energy used for transportation accounts for more than a quarter of all energy. Picture 2.1. Share of energy consumed by major selectors of the economy (2007) 2.1 Uses of energy in homes The ability to maintain desired temperatures is one of the most important accomplishments of modern technology. Our ovens, freezers, and homes can be kept at any temperature we choose, a luxury that wasn't possible 100 years ago. Keeping our homes comfortable uses a lot of energy. Over 40 percent of the average home's energy consumption is used for heating. Another 20 percent is used for water heating, 8 percent for cooling rooms, and 5 percent for refrigeration. Almost one-fourth of the energy used in homes is used for lighting and appliances. Lighting is essential to a modern society. Lights have revolutionized the way we live, work, and play. Picture 2.2. participation. With a particular interest in Wales, the following research project analyses the development of children`s active participation both in the Welsh Government and the County and Council of Swansea. Both the local and national authority has regarded the UNCRC on the basis of all its activity. One of the primary goals in both authorities is to work towards the adoption of the UNCRC in every school in Wales and Swansea as they recognise the positive impact rights based education may have upon young people`s emotional, social and academic development. The central theme of this dissertation rests on the commitment of the Cadle Primary School towards children`s right to participation as underpinned in the Article 12 of the UNCRC. The Cadle Primary School is one of the first schools in Swansea to adopt the UNCRC through the Rights Respecting School programme (RRSA). The RRSA school initiative is developed by

encouragement and utilising the latter's recently completed Programmers' Handbook for the Ferranti computer). By the summer of 1952 this program could, Strachey reported, "play a complete game of Draughts at a reasonable speed". Prinz's chess program, also written for the Ferranti Mark I, first ran in November 1951. It was for solving simple problems of the mate-in-two variety. The program would examine every possible move until a solution was found. On average several thousand moves had to be examined in the course of solving a problem, and the program was considerably slower than a human player. Turing started to program his Turochamp chess-player on the Ferranti Mark I but never completed the task. Unlike Prinz's program, the Turochamp could play a complete game and operated not by exhaustive search but under the guidance of rule-of-thumb principles devised by Turing. Kvalitatiivne uurimustöö Emotsioonide regulatsioon ja stress

. 5 1 Introduction The relationship between psychology and the stress response has been studied for many years. Hans Selye (1956) defined stress as the psycho-physiological response to demands that influence the endocrine system and the autonomic nervous system. He conceptually defined stress as a General Adaptation Syndrome (G.A.S) comprising three phases. Firstly an alarm reaction phase accumulated from an arousing external stimuli, followed by a period of adaptation to the stressor or so called resistance stage, until finally the body expresses exhaustion. More recently the effects of exercise- induced stress has been extensively studied in relation to the immune response (Brydon et al 2005,Morita et al., 2005). In psychology stress is studied in terms of psychosocial factors, which in turn are thought to affect physiological and immunological responses. In addition to

........................................................................97 6 CHAPTER 1- INTRODUCTION Over time the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry has become more complex and demanding. Clients are no longer expecting only to meet schedule, cost and quality objectives but also to guarantee safety, human satisfaction and minimal negative environmental impact (Vanegas, DuBose and Pearce 1996). Traditional construction project delivery methods and models have failed to satisfy the expectations of both contractors and clients. The main problems and their causes are analysed in the second chapter of this thesis. Thus people in the AEC industry, including scholars and practitioners, have come together to find new solutions for delivering projects and fulfilling high requirements. 1.1 Problem formulation

Sir William Lucas had been formerly in trade in Meryton, where he had made a tolerable fortune, and risen to the honour of knighthood by an address to the king during his mayoralty. The distinction had perhaps been felt too strongly. It had given him a disgust to his business, and to his residence in a small market town; and, in quitting them both, he had removed with his family to a house about a mile from Meryton, denominated from that period Lucas Lodge, where he could think with pleasure of his own importance, and, unshackled by business, occupy himself solely in being civil to all the world. For, though elated by his rank, it did not render him supercilious; on the contrary, he was all attention to everybody. By nature inoffensive, friendly, and obliging, his presentation at St. James's had made him courteous. The making of a new nation. The Enlightenment in America. The emergence of the notion of the American Dream. The great Enlighteners: Crèvecoeur, Jefferson, Paine, Franklin. The American Enlightenment is the intellectual thriving period in the United States in the midtolate 18th century (17151789), especially as it relates to American Revolution on the one hand and the European Enlightenment on the other. Influenced by the scientific revolution of the 17th century and the humanist period during the Renaissance, the Enlightenment took scientific reasoning and applied it to human nature, society, and religion. American Enlightenment a gradual but powerful awakening that established the ideals of democracy, liberty, and religious tolerance in the people of America.
