Gross domestic product

sum of all producers' incomes "Gross" means that GDP measures production regardless of the various uses to which that production can be put. Production can be used for immediate consumption, for investment in new fixed assets or inventories, or for replacing depreciated fixed assets. "Domestic" means that GDP measures production that takes place within the country's borders. · In the expenditure-method equation, the exports-minus-imports term is necessary in order to null out expenditures on things not produced in the country (imports) and add in things produced but not sold in the country (exports). Economists (since Keynes) have preferred to split the general consumption term into two parts; private consumption, and public sector (or government) spending. · Two advantages of dividing total consumption this way in theoretical macroeconomics are: 1

“Foreign direct investments in the Estonian economy”

Sound and liberal economic policies and excellent business climate has ensured a continuous growth of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Estonia. During the last 15 years Estonia has been one of the leading countries in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of inward investment per capita. Numerous foreign companies have found Estonia to be a highly attractive location. Companies partly or wholly owned by foreigners account for one-third of Estonian GDP and over 50 percent of the country`s exports. The general trends in foreign direct investment inflows can be summarized as follows: · during 1995-1996 the majority of the foreign direct investments were privatization-related; · there is an increase in terms of reinvested earnings since 1996 which was 66% of the total annual inflow of FDI in 2007; · there is a trend towards increasing share of cross-border acquisitions; · the share of greenfield investments has grown slowly as well.

achievement has been the fact that the talks on Russia's membership in the WTO have finally ended in Russia's favor. Another important achievement is the recently reached agreement which stipulates that no visas will be needed for short-term trips between Russia and the EU countries. In my opinion at one point of view, the EU is more interested because we have made more trade- offs. On the other hand as the EU is by far the biggest investor in Russia and the most important market for Russian exports, it is very clear, that the benefits, that Russia gets by preserving good relations with the EU, are their main interest. This means that both are equal partners. 2. What is the amount of yearly trade between EU and Russia? Which are the main groups of goods that are imported and exported? Which EU countries are the biggest trade partners for Russia regarding trade? EU services exports to Russia 2010: 22.6 billion EU services imports from Russia 2010: 14.2 billion

According to the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, if the UK opted not to leave, its economy would’ve grown annually by £70 billion in the long term, which is a lot more than what Mr. Prime Minister admitted to allocating for the NHS. Judging by these numbers, the loss will be big and it’s going to have a significant effect on them. As for the EU, it will lose a country that played a big part in Europe’s economy and annual GDP will fall by about 5%. EU nations’ exports will take a big hit, as some countries depend a lot on exports to the UK. For example, Ireland’s exports will be majorly affected, since about 14% are sent directly to Britain. They would have to come up with new deals that could diminish Ireland’s export profits. Also, a lot of people living and working in the UK are sending money home to other EU countries. As the numbers show, about €7.5 billion is being sent home from Britain. In

Syria made progress in easing its foreign debt burden through bilateral rescheduling deals with its key creditors in Europe, most importantly Russia, Germany, and France. Syria also settled its debt with Iran and the World Bank. 6. Foreign trade According to International Monetary Fund sources, because of the discovery of large oil fields, Syria's foreign trade volume has immensely increased over the last 3 decades. During this period, exports have grown from US$203 million in 1970 to US$4.8 billion in 2000, while imports have risen from US$360 million in 1970 to US$3.5 billion in 2000. Syria's foreign trade is highly dependent on its oil revenues and oil prices on the international markets. For the year 2000, the EIU reported that increasing oil prices have continued to boost export revenue and Syria recorded a surplus of more than US$1 billion for the first time since the Gulf War.

The range of goods covered is as wide as the range of goods in existence, so long as they have economic value: ‘by goods, within the meaning of the … Treaty, there must be understood products which can be valued in money and which are capable, as such, of forming the subject of commercial transactions’1 In this case, dogs are classed as goods, because they have economic value and are subject of sale and import.

Canada is a very large country blessed with many natural resources. From trees they make pulp and paper, from mines they extract coal, gold, silver, uranium and many other minerals. On the Prairies they grow grain, raise cattle and extract oil and gas beneath the ground. From the oceans they take fisk and other seafood. Because Canada is relatively small population and abundant natural resources, much of their international trade is exported. Their most important customer for exports is the USA. Canada exports a lot of food products: wheat and other grains, beef and other meat, oil, dairy products, sugar beets and maple sugar to name a few. Copper, gold, iron ore nickel and zinc are the minerals most often sent to other countries. Natural gas and oil are other important exports along with forestry products. Though largely dependent on natural resources Canada also has a strong manufacturing industry. Transportation equipment, such as automobiles and

Energy production accounts for 8 percent of the nation's economy. Approximately 65 percent of energy production is in Alberta, which is also the home of the nation's oil industry. Its economic and political stability, transparent legal system, exceptional infrastructure, efficient capital markets, and low corporate tax rates also make Switzerland one of the world's most competitive. The Swiss economy is not built on mass production, but on high-quality work and well- trained workers. The important areas for Swiss exports are micro-technology, high technology, biotechnology, the pharmaceuticals industry and banking and insurance know- how. Swiss products can command high prices in world markets because consumers are ready to pay for high quality. But with such a strategy, Swiss companies cannot sit back on their laurels. There has to be a strong emphasis on research and development. In Switzerland, a higher percentage of people work in research and development than in other industrialized countries.

and a steady growth rate despite growing uncertainty of land tenure in the sugar industry. The expiration of leases for sugar cane farmers (along with reduced farm and factory efficiency) has led to a decline in sugar production despite a subsidized price. Subsidies for sugar have been provided by the EU and Fiji has been the second largest beneficiary after Mauritius. Urbanization and expansion in the service sector have contributed to recent GDP growth. Sugar exports and a rapidly growing tourist industry -- with 430,800 tourists in 2003[24] and increasing in the subsequent years -- are the major sources of foreign exchange. Fiji is highly dependent on tourism for revenue. Sugar processing makes up one-third of industrial activity. Long-term problems include low investment and uncertain property rights. The political turmoil in Fiji has had a severe impact on the economy, which shrank by 2.8% in 2000 and grew by only 1% in 2001.

During the 1950's, geologists found huge deposits of coal and iron ore in Australia. Manganese, natural gas and petroleum were discovered in the 60's. Australia has got minerals like: copper, gold, silver, zinc, iron, nickel. Manufacturing. Australia imports more manufactured goods than it exports. The nation has to import many of its producer goods factory machinery, construction equipment and so on. Australia's iron and steel industry produces enough of the metals to meet the needs of other industries. The leading manufactured products are food, cars, paper, chemicals, clothing and shoes. British culture dominated New Zealand life throughout the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. However, since World War II, New Zealand has moved towards its own unique national identity and place in the world. New Zealand is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. Queen Elizabeth II is Queen of New Zealand. In 1893, New Zealand was the first country in the world to give women the right to vote. New Zealand's economy has traditionally been based on exports from its very efficient agricultural system. With warm temperatures and a lot of rain, New Zealand is a great place for farms of all kinds. For every person living in New Zealand there are twenty sheep and three cows. That is why New Zealand sells more meat from these animals, and more butter, than any other country, and also a lot of wool. Other traditional exports include wood, paper, fruit and vegetables, and fish. In the last few decades wine has also become important.

Estonia underwent a number of economic, social, and political reforms necessary to come to terms with its new status as a sovereign state. Economically and socially, land reform in 1919 was the most important step. Large estate holdings belonging to the Baltic nobility were redistributed among the peasants and especially among volunteers in the War of Independence. Estonia's principal markets became Scandinavia, Great Britain, and western Europe, with some exports to the United States and Soviet Union. In World War II Estonia suffered huge losses. Ports were destroyed, and 45% of industry and 40% of the railways were damaged. Estonia's population decreased by one-fifth (about 200,000 people).More than 30,000 soldiers were killed in battles. In 1944 Russian air raids destroyed Narva, and one-third of the residential area in Tallinn was destroyed. By late September 1944, Soviet forces expelled the last German troops from Estonia, ushering in a

Klastrite olemasolu ning koostöö klastritega on oluline nähtus ka valitsuste jaoks. Siin mängid rolli klastrite asukoha põhisus ning võimalus mõjutada tervet majandusharu. Makroökonoomika mõjutamine riigitasandil on tänaseks väga keeruline, kuna ettevõtted tegutsevad globaalselt üle maailma, seega on riiklikultasandil neile ka lihtsam läheneda mikroökonoomika tasandil läbi klastrite. „Clusters are a driving force in increasing exports and are magnets for attracting foreign investment.“ (Porter 2000) Väga suur roll on ka klastrite võimekusel suurendada eksporti ning muuta teatud geograafiline piirkond atraktiivseks välisinvestoritele, ning välisnvesteeringuid peetakse majanduskasvu ja -arengu üheks olulisemaks eelduseks. „Firms within a cluster often are able to more clearly and rapidly perceive new buyer needs. Tallinn. The aid came not only in the military presence of the war ships, but also in technical, financial and moral support. The technical expertise of the military advisers 5 from England contributed largely to the outcome of the war between Estonia and Soviet Union. After the war the military cooperation developed into cultural and economic relations. For instance during the time between the wars, approximately 30% of Estonia's exports went to the UK. The other big English speaking country, United States recognised the Republic of Estonia on 28 July 1922. The first Estonian diplomatic mission in the United States was opened in the same year. The Second World War and the occupation of Estonia resulted in loss of contacts. Most English speaking countries never recognized Estonia's annexation in 1940. During the years of Soviet occupation the embassy in the United States continued its activities from 1940 to 1991

above average GDP growth, the Spanish economy began to slow in late 2007 and entered into a recession in the second quarter of 2008. GDP contracted by 3.7% in 2009, ending a 16-year growth trend, and by another 0.1% in 2010, before turning positive in 2011, making Spain the last major economy to emerge from the global recession. The reversal in Spain's economic growth reflected a significant decline in construction amid an oversupply of housing and falling consumer spending, while exports actually have begun to grow. Government efforts to boost the economy through stimulus spending, extended unemployment benefits, and loan guarantees did not prevent a sharp rise in the unemployment rate, which rose from a low of about 8% in 2007 to 20% in 2010. The government budget deficit worsened from 3.8% of GDP in 2008 to 9.2% of GDP in 2010, more than three times the euro-zone limit. By restricting severely spending, Madrid cut the deficit to 6.5% of GDP in 2011

Poverty and economic decline led many blacks to seek temporary work in neighboring Caribbean areas and in the United States; many left the island permanently, emigrating to England, Canada, and the United States. Indians were imported to meet the labor shortage on the plantations after the slaves were freed, and agriculture was diversified to lessen dependence on sugar exports. A new constitution in 1884 marked the initial revival of local autonomy for Jamaica. Despite labor and other reforms, black riots recurred, notably those of 1938, which were caused mainly by unemployment and resentment against British racial policies. Jamaican blacks had been considerably influenced by the theories of black nationalism promulgated by the American expatriate Marcus Garvey. A royal commission investigating the 1938 riots

out of business in 1797. The cotton gin transformed Southern agriculture and the national economy. Southern cotton found ready markets in Europe and in the burgeoning textile mills of New England. Cotton agriculture revived the profitability of slavery and the political power of supporters of the South's "peculiar institution." American politics were driven by "King Cotton": maintaining the political balance between slave and free states and tariff protection for American industry. Cotton exports from the South boomed after the cotton gin's appearance (going from 180,000 pounds of total cotton production in 1793 to 93 million tons by 1810) while New England manufacturing companies struggled to compete against imported goods and clamored for tariff protection. The cotton interests led the country into war with Mexico. Cotton was a staple that could be stored for long periods and shipped long distances, unlike most agricultural food production.
