As a consequence, the technology sat dormant until the early 1990s and was revitalized with the confluence of two technological developments: microcomputers and the Internet. Microcomputers permitted the generation of electronic text from a regular keyboard and the internet provided a universal platform to submit text for review (Shermis, Mzumara, Olson, & Harrington, 2001). Automated Essay Scoring 3 Automated essay scoring is a measurement technology in which computers evaluate written work (Shermis & Burstein, 2003). Most of the initial applications have been in English, but past work has been applied to Japanese (Kawate-Mierzejewska, 2003, March), Hebrew (Vantage Learning, 2001), and Bahasa Malay (Vantage Learning, 2002). Computers do not "understand" the written text being evaluated Unlike humans, a computer cannot interpret the play on words, and infer that the predicate in the answer (i.e., "ajar") is being cleverly used as a noun (i.e., "a jar").

Challenges of childrens participation A Case Study of active citizenship in Cadle Primary School

4 social actors has provoked a great controversy as it challenges the image of the incompetent child which is overwhelmingly prevalent in the Western society. It has generated a great confusion `about what role young people below the age of majority should play in community and political life`.6 On the one hand, there is a growing recognition with respect to children`s participation in society. On the other hand, children are seen as welfare dependants, needy for care and protection of adults. The goal of this dissertation is to critically explore this hotly debated tension between these two conflicting salient features that have often prevented the recognition of children as active citizens, entitled to respect and participation. With a particular interest in Wales, the following research project analyses the

Education

After I've said what I think about each topic, readers may have a fair comprehension of my philosophy. First comes sensitivity. If a person be insensitive, be it from numbing cold, exhaustion, drugs, genetic makeup, or upbringing, then the process of education is bogged down, and results come only after great efforts. Sensitivity in my integrated meaning is broad, covering literally the senses, so that deaf and blind people are less sensitive, as well as people whose senses work perfectly, but whose receptivity or thought processes are blunted for whatever reason. A person can be insensitive in one way, such as blind, and extraordinarily sensitive in another way, such as in hearing. It is also possible to be so ultra-sensitive that the result is disadvantageous. I expect no argument in asserting that a normal sensitivity is a healthy, indispensable ingredient for optimal education. Sensitivity can be heightened or blunted by education

with torrents of data in near-real time. [3] - Variety. Data comes in all types of formats – from structured, numeric data in traditional databases to unstructured text documents, email, video, audio, stock ticker data, and financial transactions. [3] With its extensive volumes, it needs to be stored somewhere, so it could be easily accessed and then processed. The best storage location we have for it, for now, is the cloud, or in other words, the deep web. A good analogy is of an iceberg, where the part which is above the water level is the part, that the user can see and interact with. And the part below is comprised of the database and algorithms designed to process the data and send it to the appropriate user. Now, as we have those premises clear, we can finally understand and appreciate the opportunities of big data and the feasibility of it being stored within the cloud. Opportunities

receiver. Packetizing voice data involves adding header and trailer information to the data blocks. Packetization overhead (additional time and data introduced by this process) must be reduced to minimize added latencies (time delays through the system). Therefore, the process must achieve a balance between minimizing transmission delay and using network bandwidth most efficiently--smaller size allows packets to be sent more often, while larger packets take longer to compose. On the other hand, larger packets amortize the header and trailer information across a bigger chunk of voice data, so they use network bandwidth more efficiently than do smaller packets. Dimitri Mitchell outlined in a September 2009 article in Civil Engineering entitled “The Promise of Virtual Design”, four characteristics that illustrate the construction industry. First, there is a high degree of complexity resulting from different companies collaborating on a single project. an energy balance will affect the results. The absence of a methods section in your design report may be disconcerting because you might have spent up to half the semester considering different concepts before choosing one, but ultimately you won’t write about that process. The audience only cares about what you came up with and not how you got there. A design report is not a history (“first we tried this and that did not work so then we tried this and finally we got to this”), but instead is results oriented. If you find you are writing about your concept selection process in the main body of your design report, you are writing too much. But the key to making the right decision, says Lees, is to bring your dream back down to life with a hard thump. "I always say to people, 'Find out what you will actually be doing in the job of your dreams. What does the nitty-gritty day-to- day work involve?'" Conversely, he says, people should not be put off by their dreams. "If you did a straw poll of the number of peoplewho think about changing career and those who actually do it, you'd be looking at less than 5 per cent. And yet it's never been easier. Portfolio careers are becoming normal and it's increasingly possible to make the change gradually by training part-time. One question I ask people is, 'What will happen if you don't do it?' The

Achieving cost reduction or profit improvement at the expense of their supply chain partners does not make companies more competitive. Transferring cost upstream or downstream leads to "logistics myopia" as all costs ultimately will make way to the final market place to be reflected in the price paid by the end user. Therefore, the leading edge companies seek to make the supply chain as a hole more competitive through the value it adds and the cost it reduces overall. Thus today the real competition is not the companies against the companies but rather supply chain against supply chain. DEFINITIONS Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the process of planning, implementing, and controlling the operations of the supply chain with the purpose to satisfy
