Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour. Sydney Opera House is the most famous Australian architectural icon. Sydney Opera House is widely regarded as one of the greatest architectural works of the 20th century. The Sydney Opera House became a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 28 June 2007. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon. Planning began in the late 1940s, when Eugene Goossens lobbied for a suitable venue for large theatrical productions. The normal venue for such productions was not considered large enough. By 1954, Goossens succeeded in gaining the support of Joseph Cahill, who called for designs for a dedicated opera house.

Traditions from the Middle Ages are kept alive here, including parades, a knights' tournament, a parrotshooting contest and the election of the May Count. Tallinn`s late Gothic Town Hall building is one of the most famed symbols of the city, recognized throughout Estonia as a venerable, unique architectural treasure. The Town Hall was established on the central square, probably at the beginning of 13th century. In 14021404, the building was substantially reconstructed. The exterior we know today dates from this period, and the basic room plan has also been preserved, as it was reconstructed for hosting receptions. Hobbies contribute to one's personal development

Hobbies contribute to one's personal development Most people have hobbies for personal entertainment and interest. There are very many hobbies, some collect stamps, others might take photographs of architectural buildings or just play cards. Everything we do, gives us more experience at something, therefore hobbies contribute to our personal development a lot. The one hobby I will discuss and which is one of my own personal hobbies, is playing Texas Hold'em which is a form of poker. Although some people might just label it as gambling, poker is largely a skill game which has very little to do with luck rather than mathematics, reading

Modern minimalist home architecture with its unnecessary internal walls removed may have led to the popularity of the open plan kitchen and living room style. Another modern master who exemplifies reductivist ideas is Luis Barragán. In minimalism, the architectural designers pay special attention to the connection between perfect planes, elegant lighting, and careful consideration of the void spaces left by the removal of three-dimensional shapes from an architectural design. The more attractive looking minimalist home designs are not truly minimalist, because these use more expensive building materials and finishes, and are relatively larger. Contemporary architects working in this tradition include John Pawson, Eduardo Souto de

There is little doubt that the facility envisioned for the Northern Pointe site will largely rely upon adequate introduction of natural light and view to the underground levels to achieve a comfortable and successful indoor environment. This could be accomplished through the use of sunken gardens which would adjoin below grade working areas to provide light as well as important visual orientation and variety. It can be recognized that sunken gardens or other light-searching architectural elements will require substantial space to be fully effective. A recent study of such underground architectural spaces notes that many of the kinds of space with which we are dealing, would, “because of the dominant modes of activity within them, require relief by physical or visual connection to adjacent high activity areas or the external environment, or both. Characteristic occupancy of such spaces would by relatively secondary and routinized.

Durability of concrete In this presentation I'm focusing on the durability of concrete. First I'll give a brief overview of concrete, we have to know what does it actually means and where is it used? (slide) Basically concrete is a construction material composed of cement, aggregate (generally gravel, limestone, or granite, plus a fine aggregate such as sand) also water, and chemical admixtures.(slide) Concrete is used to make pavements, architectural structures, foundations, roads, bridges, marine- and parking structures, brick/block walls and footings for gates, fences and so forth. Mainly it is used because of its high durability and availability, but also because it is cheaper than to use wood for example. Concrete is used more than any other man-made material in the world.(slide) Moving on, the durability of concrete can be defined as the ability to remain serviceable for at

Henry Moore

At his home in Much Hadham, Moore built up a collection of natural objects; skulls, driftwood, pebbles, rocks and shells, which he would use to provide inspiration for organic forms. For his largest works, he often produced a half-scale, working model before scaling up for the final moulding and casting at a bronze foundry. Moore often refined the final full plaster shape and added surface marks before casting. Moore produced at least three significant examples of architectural sculpture during his career. In 1928, despite his own self-described "extreme reservations", he accepted his first public commission for West Wind for the London Underground Building at 55 Broadway in London, joining the company of Jacob Epstein and Eric Gill. In 1952, he completed a four- part concrete screen for the Time-Life Building in New Bond Street, London, and in 1955 Moore turned to his first and only work in carved brick, "Wall Relief no. 1" at the Bouwcentrum in Rotterdam

development outside the buffer zone. Authenticity The site preserves to a remarkable extent the medieval urban structure of building plots, streets and squares, set out in the 13th century, as well as medieval urban fabric. The radial street network is well endowed with buildings from the 14th-16th centuries. The town defences have been preserved over large sections at their original length and height, rising to over 15m in places. In addition to architectural continuity, Old Town has retained its traditional use as a living city, hosting domestic, commercial and religious functions, and retaining the upper town as the administrative centre of the country. Nevertheless increasingly historic residential buildings are being refurbished for touristic or public use and thus subject to increased life safety and accessibility requirements. Anglo - Saxon

Architecture Early Anglo-Saxon buildings in Britain were generally simple, constructed mainly using timber with thatch for roofing. The Anglo-Saxons built small towns near their centres of agriculture. In each town, a main hall was in the centre. The architectural character of Anglo- Saxon ecclesiastical buildings range from Coptic influenced architecture in the early period; basilica influenced Romanesque architecture; and in the later Anglo-Saxon period, an architecture characterised by pilaster-strips, blank arcading, baluster shafts and triangular headed openings. There are few remains of Anglo-Saxon architecture, with no secular work remaining above ground. All surviving churches, except one timber church, are built of stone or brick and in

have used the church. The spire of the St Olaf`s Church has been opened to the public. The view of the Tallin Old Town and its vicinity is magnificent. Lore has it that citizens of Tallinn pursued two objectives at once when building the tower. Concerned about their sailors and guests of the city, they wished to erect a lighthouse that could be seen even from the shores of Finland. On the other hand, the magistrate and the citizens wanted to use the excesses of their funds to create such an architectural masterpiece for their hometown, the likes of which could not hav been found in any other European city. Tallinn's architects of the old days probably aimed to reach the Heavenly Father or to defy the skies at least. 14 Summary The aim of the report was to find additional material about the houses on Lai Street that would be helpful for the students of Tallinna Mustamäe College while doing their guide practice exam in form eleven

in 1869, is considered to be the beginning of the Song Festivals as we know it. The Song Festival moved to its current location, Lauluväljak, in between the wars in 1928. The stage was a lot smaller then and the hill surrounding it accommodated far fewer people, so during major renovations a new stage was constructed to take double the number of singers and a higher tower for the "Song Festival live Fire" was built. Our song festival stage the Song Arch has a very unique architectural structure and the arch actually lifts higher when the sound is loud enough! http://www.visitestonia.com/en/things-to-see-and-do-in-estonia/cultural-holiday-in- estonia/song-celebrations-and-song-festival-traditions Conclusion I wrote a report about Tallinn.
