Introduction

The topic of my report is „ Song Festival Ground”. I chose this topic, because everything what is related with music and singing is very interesting to me. Music is part of our lives . We all know that Estonians made singsong revolution.
In this report I want to find out more information with Song Festival ground, it history and what’s going on here today .

History

The history of the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds is closely connected with the Song Festivals . The first Song Festival took place in 1869 in Tartu as a result of the national awakening. No special stage was built for the performers in the first song festivals. The first Song Stage was building in in 1923, witch was designed by Karl Burman and it was located on the same spot as the tribune of the current Kadrioru Stadium . Steps of the Song Stage were curved wings and it constitute background for the choirs. The first Song Stage hold 12 000 singers. Tallinn Song Festival Grounds became the location for Song Festivals since 1928.
The territory of the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds and the surrounding area was in private ownership. At first it belongs from Johann Burchard Bellawary.
The Song Stage for 15 000 singers was built at its current location, on the territory between Narva and Pirita roads, in 1928 for the 9th Song Festival. The stage was again designed by Karl Burman and it was similar to previous stage. After the war it became increasinly obvious that the Song Festival Grounds are too small to accommodate all singers.
In August 1956 everyone find that it is time to built a new stage.
The location of the Song Festival Grounds was perfectly suitable: enough room to create a larger complex , excellent view of the sea and Old Town silhouette. The value of the location was increased by the neighbouring Kadrioru Park and relative closeness to the city centre.
A competition of architectural and design plans for the Song Stage and Festival Grounds was announced in the autumn 1956. 13 designs were submitted to the competition. The final designs were made by Eesti Projekt on the basis of the plan developed by A. Kotli . Constructing will be start.

It crowns the hill of Toompea where the Estonian folk hero Kalevipoeg is said to have been buried according to a legend. The Tallinn Song Stage was built in 1959 for the Estonian Song Festival. In the northern side of the song stage there is the 42m high fire tower, which is used during the Song Festivals. Estonians gathered here at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds to sing patriotic hymns in what became known as the Singing Revolution that overthrew the Soviet rule.

Supposedly built on the grave of a legendary Estonian hero, Kalevipoeg, on the city's mighty Toompea Hill, the Orthodox cathedral was something of a Russian propaganda exercise at the time and still remains a subject of controversy amongst hardline patriots. Most locals though are content to admire the Alexander Nevsky as the fine piece of architecture. http://www.tallinn-life.com/culture/culture_details/103-Alexander_Nevsky_Cathedral The Song Festival Grounds The tradition of the song festival was born along with Estonian national awakening. Just as July becomes August, the seaside town of Haapsalu will host a grand spectacle of rural Estonian entertainment. The White Lady Days is a summer celebration filled with amusement for all the family. Held in and around the remains of the Teutonic-knights-era castles, the fair combines enchanting medieval legends with modern countryside charm to create a comprehensive experience of Estonia beyond the big cities. But the legend of the White Lady of Haapsalu, which is at the heart of the festival, is perhaps the most famous tall tale of the many that are so abundant in Estonia's folklore. It is the story of a poor girl who falls in love with the son of the village elder, and disguises herself as a choirboy in order to sneak into the castle. But, alas, the lord of the manor's son discovers the deception. He is overcome by jealous rage and orders his men to seal the girl inside the thick stone walls while still alive. Turned into an incarnation
