Leona Louise Lewis "Bleeding Love" and Leonard Albert "Lenny" Kravitz "American Woman" Leona Lewis, winner of the British singing contest "The X-Factor", is english pop and R'n'B singer. Her music is passionate and rhytmical, yet relaxing, enjoyed mostly by younger people. Lenny Kravitz, American singer-songwriter, is on the other hand more for old-school people, producing different styles, starting with rock and funk, to end with folk and ballads. Usually you would think, that title "Bleeding Love" would refer to something really corny, when it actually does not. The song refers to someone in a relationship, blinded by love and has no other option but to "bleed love" for a loved one. ,,American Woman" is originally written by a Canadian band The Guess Who but was differently interprated by Lenny Kravitz in 1999. Some say the ,,American Woman" refers to a Statue of Liberty or has something to do with anti-war movem...

Character Sketch-Shug Avery The Color Purple by Alice Walker Shug Avery was a very passionate African-American blues singer, and I believe quite a lot throughout the novel. Her evolvement was interesting to observe. First impression of her wasn’t positive because she appeared rather inelegant and also quite selfish. In essence, she seemed to be unlikable as well as superficial. Shug (originally Lilly) didn’t really embrace herself and adopted a nickname – “Shug”. However she developed a sexual relationship with Celie and with that broke the boundaries of traditional gender roles. She was outspoken, exteremely honest and not easy to affect. All her three children were born out of wedlock. She is a good example of sexuality and gender not being as univocal and simplistic topics as they may seem since she was a bisexual (sexual relationship with Celie). Throughout the novel Celie’s mother was comp...

The Importance of Being Earnest The story is based on a book called "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde. The play is directed by Peter Joucla and produced by Grantly Marshall. It is played by the American Drama Group Europe. This is a theatre group that travels around the world, so people can see many different plays and performances in English. The play tells the story of two men. One of them, Jack, lives in the country but loves to go to London once in a while. Jack's friend Algernon lives in London but, vice versa, likes to get away from the urbanism. Both of them fall in love with a woman, but the two men make a mistake, they lie about their name. Both say their name is Earnest and as it turns out, that is the name a man should have to marry those women. Of course the lie comes out and that is when the real drama starts. Meg's Biography Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse-at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flunked freshman Algebra twice, then decided to cut her own bangs. After six years as an undergrad at Indiana University (a college to which she was only accepted because her father taught there), Meg moved to New York City (in the middle of a sanitation worker strike) to pursue a career as an illustrator, at which she failed miserably, forcing her to turn to her favorite hobbywriting novelsfor emotional succor. She worked various jobs to pay the rent, including a decade-long stint as the assistant manager of a 700 bed freshmen dormitory at NYU, a position she still occasionally misses. She is now the author of over forty books for both adu...

Souli ajalugu: · Soul muusika on pärit Ameerika Ühendriikidest. Mõiste "soul" (inglise keeles hing) võeti esmakordselt kasutusele 1961. aastal. Tuntuimad neist on: Motown soul, Deep soul, Chicago soul, Philadelphia soul ning Neo soul. Igal alaliigil tehti väikesi muutusi, kuid zanr ise jäi samaks. · Souli tüüpilisemad pillid on kitarr, basskitarr, trummid, klaver, orel ning teised klahvpillid. How genre and narrative makes meaning in ``The Black Dahlia`` When analyzing a film, people understand the movie is much more complicated than it seems. To make a difference, to give a meaning to the film, film-makers have used different visual and thematic features. There are macro features (genre, narrative) as well as micro features (mise en scene, cinematography) and they are linked together in many ways. I have chosen to analyse the closing sequence of ``The Black Dahlia``, directed by Brian de Palma, and I will focus on macro features in this essay. Brian de Palma is well known director, who is focused on noir area through his career (he was once considered as a Hitchcock imitator) ``The Black Dahlia" can be classified as Film Noir. The genre is called Film Noir due to the `serie noir` books, which were publised in France (bethween 1940s and 1950s). These books were transl...

English literature is one of the oldest literatures in Europe; dates back to the 6th century AD. Oral literature, i.e. not written down, spread from person to person. The first form of recorded English literature was the epic Beowulf, which was produced sometime near the end of the 7th and beginning of the 8th century. It has no ...

Witchcraft Witchcraft is the alleged use of supernatural or magical powers. A witch (from Old English wicca m. / wicce f.) is a practitioner of witchcraft. Historically, it was widely believed that witchcraft involved the use of these powers to inflict harm upon members of a community or their property, and that all witches were in league with the devil. I The Birth of Batman The creation of the fictional superhero Batman is credited to artist Bob Kane, even though in reality he was cocreated with writer Bill Finger. Batman first appeared in 1939 in Detective Comics #27. Since then Batman has been an important and influential character in the comic book universe. Publisher of DC Comics, Vin Sullivan was looking for something new for Detective Comics, which would be as intriguing as Superman had been in Action Comics, but it had to be something completely new. Sullivan's ideas inspired Kane, and he credits the creation of Batman as much to Sullivan as to himself. Kane's first image was very much a hero with birdlike wings, but during the process of drawing evolved into a more ...
