her last child wasn't her husband's. Her body was discovered with the letter, a glass containing potassium cyanide and a torn suicide note which read: I can't go on. Few days after, Mr Symmington's maid was murdered. Shockingly, the body was found by Megan, Mr Symmington's 20 year old step-daughter. Scotland Yard sent someone to investigate, and came to the conclusion that the letter- writer/murderer was a middle-aged woman who must be one of the citizens of Lymstock. The village was plunged into suspicion and terror. Once a village of trust, now all inhabitants were on the verge of accusations. There was a break in the case when the Symmington's beautiful young governess, Elsie Holland, received an anonymous letter typed with the same typewriter that had been used to create previous letters. The doctor's sister, Aimee Griffith, was arrested, since she had been seen both typing the letter and delivering it.

BOOK REPORT Title of the book: The Catcher in the Rye Author: Jerome David Salinger (January 1, 1919 January 27, 2010) was an American writer who died at the age of 91. He was married three times and has two children. Some of his most notable works are The Catcher in the Rye, Nine Stories and Franny and Zooey. The Catcher in the Rye is by far the most famous and most critiqued book of his, selling over 250,000 copies every year. In total the book has sold over 65 million copies worldwide. The success of The Catcher in the Rye led to public attention: Salinger became reclusive, publishing new work less frequently. Analysis of the book 1. Setting The story starts in the year 1950 when the novel's protagonist and narrator Holden starts telling a story from a hospital about the events of last year's winter. Most of the story takes place in winter of 1949 just over a couple of days in Pennsylvania and New York.
French "clairvoyant" recommended by Lidia Ivanovna who apparently has a vision in his sleep during Stiva's visit, and gives Karenin a cryptic message that is interpreted as meeting that he must decline the request for divorce. Anna becomes increasingly jealous and irrational towards Vronsky, whom she suspects of having love affairs with other women, and of giving in to his mother's plans to marry him off to a rich Society woman. There is a bitter row, and Anna believes that the relationship is over. She starts to think of suicide as an escape from her torments. In her mental and emotional confusion, she sends a telegram to Vronsky asking him to come home to her, and pays a visit to Dolly and Kitty. Anna's confusion overcomes her, and in a parallel to the railway worker's accidental death in part 1, she commits suicide by throwing herself in the path of a train. Part 8

Rosaleen has a strong alibi for the time of the murder since she was in the London flat that evening. David has only a weak alibi: down from London for the day, he met Lynn on his dash to catch the last train to London leaving at 9:20 pm, and evidently telephoned her from the London flat shortly after 11 pm. Since the murder is believed to have taken place shortly before 9 pm, he had enough opportunity and motive to be arrested. David's alibi improves when it is discovered that a heavily made-up woman in an orange headscarf left Arden's room after 10 p.m. The investigation shifts back to the female Cloades, but Poirot discovers that the immediate cause of Arden's death may have been smashing his head against a heavy marble mantelpiece. The appearance of a murder may have been created after some form of accidental death. Lynn, though engaged to Rowley, seems to love David. Rowley may be attracted to Rosaleen, who seems to be consumed with guilt and fear. Major Porter apparently
