My mother tongue in 21th century

My mother tongue in 21th century Thousands of Years ago Estonian did not exist. Even nowadays not very many people speak Estonian, nearly 1,5 Million. Compared to English speakers, it's nothing. The Estonian language has changed very much as the years have gone by. The expressions that were used years ago are replaced with English phrases, which are especially popular among young people. That's because almost all films, song lyrics and popular TV shows are in English. They also use slang too much. It's quite possible, that soon the Estonian language dies out and replaces with English. The second reason, why Estonian is in big danger, is because the little importance of the language. Almost everyone can speak at least one foreign language and nowadays the travelling possibilities are also very good. So if the Estonian language has no importance, it's possible, that if several nations will mix and there will be no...

Then Sally drove away, thinking about what she had done. She promised yesterday to her 10-years old daughter that she will watch a movie with her and now Sally didn't know what to do, her agreeing was just a slip of the tongue. In the evening, when she reached to home from work, she lied and said to her daughter that she can't stay at home because she have to work. Estonian and British Education System

The examination system is also different. In Britain, students have to take every year Teacher exams. At the end of key two, they have to take National Curriculum Test (NCT). At age sixteen, they have to take the General Certificate of Secondary Education exam (GCSE). A-level is an Advanced level GCE qualification. This exam is normally taken after two years of A-level study. In Estonia, at the end of basic education there are three final examinations: Mother tongue, Mathematics, and a chosen exam. At the end of secondary education there are five graduation examinations: Mother tongue, Mathematics, English language and two chosen exams. Also, in eleventh form you have to do research. To conclude, the main differences between British and Estonian system are basically connected with school names and ages. British examination system differs from Estonian system largely. British system is more complicated than Estonian system.

Why languages essee

For example in Estonian children learn in school German, Russian and English. Main is English. Main reason why English is so widely spread is because many young people learn English. So when you travel, English is main language you should speak. And it´s good when there are some languages which most of the people can speak because the communication is wide on easy. But most of all I think that the most important is to know your mother tongue. We should keep our language culture and prevent language compatibility.

Why learn English?

everything is based on English. Firstly English is the international language and knowing English shows the eruditeness of people, because every person who considers him or herself to be educated has learnt it. English has switched places with Latin, which once was the language of educated people. Not to mention the fact that people can use it for communication with eachother. In my opinion it is not necessary to learn that country's mother tongue while most of the people are able to talk in English. I find that English connects different people and helps us to feel like a big multicultural family. In addition to that it is a whole lot easier to find a job abroad, if you are fluent in English, because they are looking for workers who are able to talk with no language barrier and it shows that you are open to different challenges. All in all, I find that learning English is extremely important and useful, because we can use it

History of the English language

The first is behind Latin words that produced such English loans as spectacle, spectator, expect, inspect, perspective, etc. The second is behind the Greek word for "examine" with the derivatives sceptic, sceptical, scepticism (one who examines things inevitably becomes sceptical about them!). Metathesis, essentially in the same sense, is also a term used in psycholinguistics. People assemble whole words in the brain, before actually uttering them. Thus, it is not unusual for slips of the tongue to happen in which sounds of the same word change places e.g. "brake fluid" turns into "blake fruid" ,"past fashion" > "fast passion" The same principle applies to whole phrasesand even sentences, which shows that they, too, are largely preassembled in the mind before being uttered. On the sentence level sometimes the term "spoonerisms" is used < Reverend Spooner (19th century) famous for metathetic slips of the tongue:"You have tasted two worms" (pro "You have wasted two terms")

species of bee, in nine recognized families, though many are undescribed and the actual number is probably higher. They are found on every continent except Antarctica, in every habitat on the planet that contains insect-pollinated flowering plants. Bees are adapted for feeding on nectar and pollen, the former primarily as an energy source, and the latter primarily for protein and other nutrients. Most pollen is used as food for larvae. Bees have a long proboscis (a complex "tongue") that enables them to obtain the nectar from flowers. They have antennae almost universally made up of 13 segments in males and 12 in females, as is typical for the superfamily. Bees all have two pairs of wings, the hind pair being the smaller of the two; in a very few species, one sex or caste has relatively short wings that make flight difficult or impossible, but none is wingless. The best-known bee species is the European honey bee, which, as its name suggests, produces

Hamleti esimese monoloogi kokkuvõte

Hamlet's first soliloquy The soliloquy begins with Hamlet wishing that his body would melt, turn into water and become like dew (hommikukaste). He also would like if the God hadn't made a law forbidding suicide. He says that life seems weary, stale, flat and useless to him. He moans as it is terrible. The world was like and unweeded garden that had finally gone to seed but only ugly things thrived. He can't believe what had happened as his father was dead only two months. Not even that long. He says how excellent king his father was compared to the current king, his uncle. His father was like the sun god Hyperion compared to a lecherous satyr (ihar satüür). He believes that his father had been very loving to his mother and he wouldn't have even allowed the gentle breeze of heaven to blow too roughly on her face. Hamlet doesn't want to remember it, so he closes his ears. He remembers how much his mother l...

many countries. [5] Picture 1. The main influences on the development of the English language 1.2 Origins of English as Global Language The first significant step in the progress of English towards its status as a global language took place at the end of the sixteenth century. At that time, the number of mother- tongue English speakers in the world is thought to have been 400 million and more, almost all of them living in the British Isles.“Between the end of the reign of Elizabeth I (1603) and the 6 beginning of the reign of Elizabeth II (1952), this figure increased almost fiftyfold, to some 250 million, the vast majority living outside the British Isles... ” [3, p.30]

To Protect or not Protect Minor Languages

Many minor languages have been mixed together or been developed from other languages. I think that the minor languages should be protected, because with languages come with a part of culture and if we terminate the variety of cultures that have developed throughout the evolution of mankind then the world would be boring. There would be no languages to learn, no foreign songs to sing and no joy of knowing that you can speak to a foreigner in his mother tongue. Also people are more friendly and open to you if they can speak freely in their mother language. But not protecting the minor languages can also be a good thing. As we know the world is globalising and the closest thing to a global language is English. Most of the internet and technology is in English, also lots of trading and business deals are written in English. Interesting is, that even in Estonia knowing and speaking English has come an expectation not a skill in the

the latter between 20 and 40 kg. The shoulder height is about 60-72cm .The Sun Bear possesses sickle-shaped claws that are relatively light in weight. It has large paws with naked soles, probably to assist in climbing. Its inward-turned feet make the bear's walk pigeon toed, but it is an excellent climber. It has small, round ears and a stout snout. The tail is 1.2-2.8 inches (3-7 cm) long. Despite its small size, the Sun Bear possesses a very long, slender tongue, ranging from 8 to 10 inches (20-25 cm) in length. The bear uses it to extract honey from beehives. Unlike other bears, the Sun Bear's fur is short and sleek. This adaptation is probably due to the lowland climates it inhabits. Dark black or brown-black fur covers its body, except on the chest, where there is a pale orange-yellow marking in the shape of a horseshoe. Similar colored fur can be found around the muzzle and the eyes. These distinctive markings give the Sun Bear its name.

Me and languages

Me and languages Nowdays it is very common that one person can speak more than one language. There are people who have to learn different languages at school and people who do it , beacause they want to educate themselves. I think that every person should speak at least 3 languages. My mother tongue is Estonian. I can speak and write it very fluently. I like to read books in estonian and listen songs in Estonian. I know some people who prefer to do it in English. But for me it is more enjoyable to do it in my mother tounge. English is one of the most common languages in the world. Therefore it is very important to speak it. I started learning English in the third grade like most of the students. Before the lessons at school I had already learned the basic of English. My
