European Union economic

European Union economic 9th May 1951, six Western-Europe countries (Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, France and Germany) signed a treaty to run their heavy industries coal and steel under a common management. From this economic cooperation agreement, European Union has grown up. For today, the aim of this union has made 180º turn but the reason why more and more countries are joining it is still same to rise the economy. So how does it work? Taxes are collected mainly from member countries GDP (1,1% of countries budget) but as well the import duties on good bought into EU. Also, every member country is paying 0,1%-0,33% of their VAT (value added tax). It is the way how EU gets its budget which is about 120 billion per year. Turkey and the European Union

Tallinn University TURKEY AND THE EUROPEAN UNION Tallinn 2013 INTRODUCTION The accession negotiations and the forthcoming Turkish accession present challenges to both Turkey and the EU. It is widely accepted that Turkey's accession would be different from previous enlargements because of the combined impact of Turkey's population, size, geographical location, economic, security and military potential. The case of Turkey will be different and more challenging from previous accessions for a number of reasons, some of them are presented below. Turkey is a country with a large population and geographic area. With a population of 74 million today, it is projected that it could be the largest member state at the time of accession. As a Moslem secular country, Turkey will also add a new demographic and religious dimension to the EU. Also, the presence of a large number of Turkish immigrants in European count...

Introduction and history of the European Union

Introduction and history of the European Union History The European Union is set up with the aim of ending the frequent and bloody wars between neighbours, which culminated in the Second World War. The idea is that countries who trade with one another become economically interdependent and so more likely avoid conflict. The ancestor of the European Union is the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) which was created with the Treaty of Paris (1951) and was signed by France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and West Germany (total of 6 countries). European Economic Community (EEC) was created with the Treaty of Rome (1958), establishing a customs union (tolliliit). The European Union (EU) was created by the Maastricht Treaty which came into effect on November 1st 1993. Introduction The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union.EU policies aim to ensure the free movement of people, goods, services, and capital, enact...

The European Union Law , The EU institutions

TALLINN UNIVERSITY The Law School Law The European Union Law The EU institutions Lecturer: Matti Kauppi Student: Viktoria Gratšjova Tallinn, 2014 The institutions of the European Union form a complex and unique polity and, in determining whether or not this structure and the law making powers granted to each respective institution are inherently undemocratic, it is vital to define what is meant by the term ‘democratic’. In his Gettysburg address Abraham Lincoln referred to a government which was ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’and it is by this criterion that democracy is often judged. These principles are reflected in having equal access to power and in being equal before the law. It must be considered not only whether law making powers are granted to elected persons, but also whether the balance of power between institutions within the...

Pros and Cons of the European Union

Pros and Cons of the European Union The European Union is a unique partnership between 27 democratic countries in the Europe. The European Union has brought peace and economic prosperity to Europe. The European Union helps a lot of countries and many Europe countries wish to be EU members. But is it really useful to join into the union? The European Union has a lot of pros, but there are also some cons. On the one hand, the European Union gives benefits to Member States. Firstly, it is easy to travel from one Member State to another, live, study or even work there. Secondly, there is no need to change money because most Member States use Euro as the common currency. Thirdly, thanks to the European Union food products became safer and phone calls to European countries cheaper. Furthermore, if somebody has own company, it is easy for him to offer his products and services in other Union countries. Fin...

Brexit (inglise keelne)

From 28 to 27. What is the long-term consequence of the UK leaving the European Union? There is no question that the United Kingdom leaving the European Union or Brexit as we all know it, is a big hit for the EU and the UK. It’s by no means an easy process and a lot of people are against it, but today nothing can be done to stop it. Even though Brexit is seen by its leaders as a positive change, it will also have quite a negative effect on Britain and play a big role in reshaping European Union. Most British people were voting for Brexit to regain sovereignty, to ‘take back control’ and regulate their laws. At first glance, it may seem that they would be in charge of their actions which would mean that nobody on the outside can manipulate them. Although nowadays countries depend on each other a lot and the UK is no exception. Everything is more connected than ever and because of that existing completely on your own is quite an impos...

Writting a summary

Writting a summary I read the following sections of the booklet „Europe. A journal for young people“. The booklet is listed in 7 sections:“ Europe in everday life“; „The European Union- what does this mean exactly?“; „How does the European Union work?“; „What exactly does the EU do?“; „Europe moves on_ the enlargement of the European Union“; „Europe and the wider world“ and „The future of Europe“. ‘Europe is somewhere else.’ This provocative statement opens the first chapter of „Europe. A journal for young people“. It is, of course, not true. As EU citizens, Europe is our home. It affects our lives in many areas. For example: money (euro is a common currency); flying has become much cheaper and safer; the police forces in the EU work closely together and European environmental protection lays down common standards. The second sections provides information about what does the European Union exactly means and when did 28 countries come ...

German Federal Election, 2009

German federal election, 2009 On the 27th of December, germans went to the polls in parliamentary elections. It was a vote that would decide the shape of the German parliament. The opinion polls before the elections suggested that Angelina Merkel would keep the top job and she did. The Christian Democrats won with 33% of the votes. The Christian Democratic Union, the Christian Social Union of Bavaria, and the Free Democratic Party have announced their intention to form a centre-right government with Angela Merkel continuing as the Chancellor. It is said that Angelina Merkel is the biggest poker face in German politics. In her four years as chancellor she has outmanouvered her opponents and become the country's most popular politician and as the German economy is recovering from recession, the people see her as a safe pair of hands. With Angela Merkel as popular as she is, you might think that the result is a for gone conclusion,...

Singing revolution

Singing Revolution To the end of 80s, the Soviet Union folks didn't want to live under socialistic- communistic order anymore. The Soviet Union was protected with the Iron Curtain, which symbol was the Berlin wall. At the same time, not only Estonia, but also other countries that were under the authority of the Soviet Union, increased the independence efforts. People didn't want to live like this anymore, it was based on fear and commands. The start of the Estonian public announcement of the reindependence is probably the Singing Revolution. To begin with, the Singing Revolution was a non-violent wish expressing and embarked on the Soviet Union to fall apart. The Singing Revolution is a commonly used name for events between 1987 and 1990 that led to the restoration of the independence of Estonia and also Latvia and Lithuania. Afterwards, there was a spontaneous mass night-...

Audi 100 aastat ajalugu

Motorwagenwerke asutades. Audi Audi on Saksamaa autotootja. Audi kuulub peaaegu täielikult (99,7%) Volkswagen AG-le. Audi tütarfirmad on Lamborghini ja Seat. Firma on väljakasvanud Audi, Horchi, Wandereri ja DKW liitmisel tekkinud Auto Unionist. Audi peakorter asub Ingolstadtis Baierimaal. Just Horchi peas sündis geniaalne idee suunata autorool keskelt vasakusse sõidukinurka. Oma uues tehases sai August Horch töötada vaid kümme aastat. 1909. aastal tekkisid probleemid juhtkonnaga ning H...

The euro in Estonia

Kati-Liis Karu 03.01.2011 The euro in Estonia Joining the European Union in 2004 made people in Estonia think about the changing of currency. We had almost six years to get used to the fact that the Estonian kroon is eventually going to end. In that time there was a lot of discussion about whether we should stick to the kroon or change our money to the euro. Lots of people were afraid that they lose their money during the period of transition - this belief was quite popular among people who still remember the time when the Russian rubles were changed into kroons and did lose much money. Luckily there haven't been any complaints yet. The reason I chose this political concern is its contradictoriness. I myself dislike the fact that the kroon is "leaving us" but I hope that in the long run it will seriously benefit us. According to Conjuncture Institute's research 39% of responden...

Milestones in Estonian History The Estonians are a Finno-Ugric people who came from the area near the Urals and the Volga and Oka rivers. They migrated westward to the Baltic shores some 5, 000 years ago. In the ninth century A.D. Viking ships invaded Estonia and the country became a vital link in the sea-trade between East and West. By the 12th century, the Arabian geographer al-Idrisi had placed the city on his maps. In the 13th century, Tallinn joined the Hanseatic League, the union of European commercial towns that stretched from London to Novgorod. Pärnu, Viljandi and Tartu were also members. Estonia became a vital link in the sea-trade between East and West. The oldest preserved book written in Estonian, a catechism, dates from 1535. Tartu University was established in 1632, on orders from Sweden's King Gustav II Adolf. Literacy spread. The Bible was translated into Estonian in 1739(pole vaja teada). A period of wars began in...

Estonian Independence Day

Independence Day On 24 February, Independence Day is celebrated in the Rebublic of Estonia. This is the day that the Manifesto was declared in Tallinn 91 years ago. In responce to a period of Russification initiated by the Russian empire in the 1890's, Estonian nationalism took on more political tones, with intellectuals first calling for greater autonomy, and later, complete independence from the Russian empire. Following the Bolshevik takeover of power in Russia after the October Revolution of 1917 and German victories against the Russian army, between the Russian Red Army's retreat and the arrival of advancing German troops, the Committee of Elders of the Maapäev issued the Estonian Declaration of Independence in Pärnu on February 24, 1918. after winning the Estonian Liberation War against Soviet Russia and at the same time German Freekorps volunteers (the Tartu Peace Treaty was signed on 2 February 1920), Estonia maintai...

Benefits of the EU

Benefits of the EU The European Union was formed after the Second World War, because some political leaders believed that it was the only way to avoid conflicts in the future. There are many benefits in the EU, for example the EU has allowed citizen of the European Union to travel freely around Europe and millions EU citizens have moved to other EU country to work or to study. The EU has also given European countries a voice in world affairs. Smaller countries like Estonia and Latvia now can also get a word in world affairs, they are heard. Another advantage of the EU is that the EU has a strong common currency Euro. It makes travelling easier and also cheaper, because you can go on holiday and not have to worry about exchange money, therefore avoid high exchange charges. There is also peace amongst nations. The EU has managed to avoid conflicts and war and it makes smaller countries feel safe....

Fašistlike ideoloogiate üldpõhimõtted

Sissejuhatus. Fasistlike ideoloogiate üldpõhimõtted Erinevalt paljudest teistest Euroopa riikidest jäi fasistliku ideoloogia levik Suurbritannias 1920. ja 1930. aastatel marginaalseks. Kuigi näiteks Suurbritannia fasistlike liikumiste lipulaeva British Union of Fascists ülesehitamine toimus loogilise ja ammendava programmi alusel - rahva poolehoidu taotlevad aktsioonid järgnesid alles hiljem - , ei suudetud pikaajalise demokraatiatraditsiooniga brittidelt leida piisavat toetust. Mark Hagopian nimetab pärast Esimest maailmasõda Itaalias ja mujal Euroopas tekkinud fasistliku ideoloogia olulisimateks põhimõteteks etatismi, karismaatilist juhtimist, elitarismi, hüpernatsionalismi, voluntarismi, antiparlamentarismi ning antimarksismi (Hagopian 1993, 388). Lisaks on erinevad autorid nimetanud fasistliku ideoloogia põhitunnustena veel antikonservatismi, antiliberalismi, parteilisi võitlussalku ja eesmärki totalitarismile. Kahtlemata sobinuks...

The USA

The United States of America (The U.S.A) Geography The main part of the United states extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west. It covers the middle of the North American continent. This area is called ,,the continental United states". The continental United States is bounded to the North by Canada and to the South by Mexico. The border with Canada is often called ,,the longest unguarded border in the world". The United States and Canada are good friends and they have very few problems in managing the border. The borded with Mexico is different. Immigrants are constantly crossing the border illegally. Every day about 2,000 of them are captured and sent back, but may others get through. There are also two states that are not connected to the continental United States. They are Alaska and Hawaii. There are two mountain ranges in ...

In the words of stat.ee about two-thirds of households have a broadband Internet connection. Due to more people go online to vote and do their business with the banks. As time goes by, more and more discoveries are made in the IT field. However, the income of estonians is one of the lowest in the European Union, therefore there is a big gap between different social layers. Estonians average monthly wage is 792 EUR, which means that the average monthly wage is bigger only than in Latvia. Other European Union countries have higher average monthly wages. Small salary is accompanie by aging. That is because families with smaller income do not want to have children, because they can not adequately care for them. That is the reason why the gro...

inglise keeles Eesti tutvustus: Project: Estonia

Project ESTONIA MAP OF ESTONIA Southern Viljandimaa The southern part of Viljandi county catches the eye with its sublime scenery. The area today lies in the very heart of the historical Mulgimaa the home of hills, deep valleys and lakes brought together by a beauty spot Halliste primeval valley. According to several folk tales, it is also in these valleys, woods and bogs that Old Nick found refuge. The great variety displayed in the nature is also reflected in the local cultural heritage. At the beginning of the 19th century growing linen spread and became the basis of the legendary wealth of Mulgi farms. The ancient barn-dwellings and decaying manor houses are the mute witnesses of those times. The riches and cultural heritage of Mulgimaa owe to the diligence and tenacity of the local people. Village handicraftsmen and masters have always been honoured. Mulgikapsad (stewed sauerkraut with barley gro...

Abstract Eriala inglisekeel

Abstract Teema pealkiri Nimi Eriala Instituut Asukoht, Aasta The Bhopal gas tragedy is considered to be the world's worst industrial disaster. Over 40 tonnes of the deadly methyl isocyanate (MIC) leaked from the Union Carbide Corporation Plant, toxifying and killing thousands of people. This study was aimed at determining the causes of this disaster and also the effect it had on people and the environment. A thorough analysis was done on several scientific works and articles. A lengthy documentary was also included in the analysis. The analyses established that a metal plate was missing from between two pipes in the Union Carbide Corporation in which water managed to reach the MIC tank. The chemical reaction between water and MIC caused a major temperature and pressure rise in the tank which allowed the toxic gas to escape from the emergency pipes. The gas was not neutralized, as the three fundamental emergency systems failed to work....
