Tallinn The first traces of human settlement found in Tallinn's city center by archeologists are about 5000 years old. Benefits and drawbacks of the EU Joining the European Union in 2004 has definitely brought some good and some bad things to Estonia in the past 9 years. As they say, you have to take the good with the bad. One positive thing that almost immediately pops into my head is the fact that being in the EU makes travelling so much easier between the member countries. His reign as a president started in 1938 and ended in 1940. Päts' political career started early. He served as a municipal advisor in 1904 and had many political positions after that. With his speech during the War of Independence he put a basis to Estonian economy. Päts' position as a president ended when Soviet Union occupied Estonia in 1940.
