Sheep senses and social cognition

means that we must pay careful attention to welfare factors such as the composition and stability of their social environment as well as the nature of our own interactions with them. To many humans sheep are regarded as being as close to an automaton and amindless animal species as can be imagined and any serious consideration of their cognitive, social and general mental faculties deemed futile. I can give example about sheep memory. Every summer, just about time when apples are cooked, my mothers sheep flock goes to find appletrees. They could go there every season and after winter in barn it would be obvious that they wouldnt even remeber but they do. What senses do you think sheep has? Sensory discrimination abilities and their uses Sheep like other species have adapted thier senses to achieve remarkable discrimination skills. These allow them to identify importnant individuals and objects in their environment and communication of social signals

The letter to Australia

I hope you don't mind and you will have a time to respond to the letter. I have heard that there is a weird and wonderful musical instrument called a didgeridoo. Did you saw it? How it looks? And how they play it? I'll like if you will talk to me about it. It seems a very interesting instrument. Australins have a strong sense of humour and I have read that they will tell anti-English jokes to the English, anti-lawyer jokes to the lawyers and anti- mother-in-law jokes to mothers-in-law. Is is true? Did Australians laugh about you? They are very easy-going by nature. They put a high value on their leisure time. I hope that when I go to Australia, I will see kangaroos and koalas. I have seen they only in Zoo, not in nature. Did you see any animals in nature? Do you know that the cutest animal spends 80% of its time asleep in eucalyptus tree? I didn't know it before. Australian most famous landmarks are an ancient rock in the desert, a

Local people have often been the last to benefit financially from international tourism. But this is slowly changing. It's happening in Vietnam. The first tourists can see many famous war sites, towns and vibrant green paddy fields. But if they go up into the hills they find a region inhabited by hill tribe people, who live basic, subsistence life. Local people are looking at tourists with fear and disdain. In the villages children are playing and mothers with elaborate headdresses are getting on their daily lives, but if tourists come, they run indoors and villages become silent. In Thailand hill tribe treks have become infamous ,,human zoos". Tourists from all over the world traipse through the villages and this causes cultural and economic disaster. Also the benefits of toursim are often skimmed off by businessmen from outside the community. It ruins and changes the local peoples culture

In the summer they also eat lemmings, arctic foxes, ducks and some plants. They live for 15 to 20 years and spend most of their time on drifting packs of ice, eating and resting. The bears reach sexual maturity 3 to 5 years after birth. Each year pregnant polar bears dig a den in the snow of southern facing slopes, where they give birth. The females give birth to one or two cubs. Cubs are naked, blind and deaf when they are born. They learn how to hunt with their mothers for about two and a half years. Polar bears live alone, except for mothers who live with their cubs. Polar bears adapt very well to the cold. They have a layer of blubber around 11,4 centimetres thick. That and the hollow shafts of their hair provide them with excellent insulation. Their ears and tail are very short so they don't lose any heat through them. Essee, Homelessness

In the past fifty years the United States has invested more money in helping the homeless people than any other country in the world. The result is that we have more poor people now and more people dependent on the government than we did fifty years ago. The welfare program in our society has failed. The illegitimacy rate of welfare when it first was introduced was one fourth of what it is today. It has driven fathers out of families and caused mothers to become dependent. It has taken away people's dignity and has brought child abuse to our society. Better programs must be created if we want to help homeless people. When people choose to be homeless, they do so because they feel separated from mainstream society. If the dominant social order has no place for a person, they must find another group where they feel needed. The homeless have trouble belonging to a community. Many people

The Life of Indigenous Australian Children.

The forced removal of indigenous children happened in every state and territory of Australia. The separation of Aboriginal children started in Victoria and New South Wales as early as 1885 and, in some states, was not stopped until the 1970s. About 85% of Aboriginal families have been affected in some way, either by having children taken away from them or by being forced to make major decisions to avoid having their children taken. Mothers of some Aboriginal children would cover their fair-skinned children with black clay; hide them in trees, behind sand dunes, or in hollow logs. Families were moving constantly, to keep one step ahead of "welfare." Some families said that they were Italian, Maori, or Greek, leaving their true identity to themselves to escape the strict control of the white "protector." The removal of these children from their families affected more than just a few people. In

More and more my generation people are using the last method. For example one of my classmates relative one day appeared behind her mothers door and said: ,,We are now married!" But can you say that registration is really getting married or is it just one way to own the same last name and property? Well, this is one of those things that everyone has to think out for themselves. Nowadays the word ,,marriage" does not own the same meaning as before, now it is more like just registration and eating cake with your family or closest friends. Marriages like before are

and many countries have actually made their marriages legal and tolerate them. Also, there have been numerous discussions on whether they should have the right to have, adopt and raise children. To me, it is absolutely unacceptable because this is not normal. They could have good facilities for bringing up children and lots of love to give them, but in my eyes it just is not suitable for a child. How could a child live a normal life having to live with two mothers or two fathers? It may sound very intolerant and rude from my part, but I do not think any child could live like that and have a normal and healthy life afterwards. I try to be tolerant about gays having untraditional partnerships and think of them as fellow humans and let them live their own lives, but allowing them to raise children is over my line. Moreover, I am even more confused and concerned about the gender roles. A couple of days ago

Will they both have independent groups of readers in future or will the future belong only to the e-books? What are the pros and cons of each? Let's have a brief look at the advantages and disadvantages of both. In August 2009 it has been estimated that there are over 2 million free books available for download. Our father and mothers recall times when one had to stand in queues to get the desired books. An e-book can be offered indefinitely, without ever going "out of print". The collection of e-books takes certainly significantly less room than the same collection of conventional books. An e-reader can potentially contain thousands of e-books, limited only by its memory capacity. Depending on the device e-book may be readable in low light or even in total darkness. For

decimated the population. Today, twenty to thirty-five mountain lions reportedly inhabit Yellowstone Park, but sightings are rare. Shy and elusive, mountain lions live solitary lives and practice mutual avoidance. Males and females interact for breeding when females are about 2 1/2 years old. Giving birth throughout the year, females can have litters of up to four kittens, but usually only one or two survive. Born spotted, the kittens stay with their mothers for about 18 months, after which time they will leave in search of their own home range. The Mountain Lion is capable stalk-and-ambush predator; the cougar pursues a wide variety of prey. Primary food sources include ungulates such as deer and bighorn sheep, but it hunts species as small as insects and rodents The Cougar prefers habitats with dense underbrush and rocky areas for stalking, but it can live in open areas. that poor people were poor only because they were lazy(actual causes were overpopulation, unemployment and high prices). So in 1834 a law was passed in the Parliament that resulted in building workhouses to accommodate and give jobs to people who couldn't support themselves financially. Also in the workhouses were orphaned (children without parents) and abandoned children, the physically and mentally sick, the disabled, the elderly and unmarried mothers. The idea of workhouses was kind of good, but in reality, there were several problems with them. The government, terrified of encouraging 'idlers' (lazy people), made sure that people feared the workhouse and would do anything to keep out of it. The problems included poor education system for children(teachers uninspired and low paid, children weren't taught reading and writing), physically demanding jobs(breaking rocks and

``The Black Dahlia`` we see that Bucky is almost crying. This may lead us to the point that in old times men didn't show much emotions in films but nowadays it is ok, even if it is Film Noir and an anti-hero. Even though, the general dress codes (suits, hats) are still exactly the same. The femme fatale in this film is Madeline Linscott (played by Hilary Swank). Before Noir genre, women were quite inactive figures in Hollywood films. They were wives, mothers or whores and they didn't have much rights. In this gerne, role of women has changed. Through the film Madeline played one of the central roles and even at the end it seems like she could manipulate and control Bucky. She has the right to say what she wants. In this case, however, the anti-hero has the power and femme fatale gets shot. As well as in this sequence, we also see guns in almost every other Film Noir. Aborigeenid (Inglise keeles)

The Aborigines often used the fat of animals to cover their bodies to protect them from insects such as mosquitoes. Some of the early Europeans considered that this practice 'gave them a most unpleasant odour'. No doubt it did, but it also provided effective protection against insect stings. Aborigines had initiations. Boys began a period of initiation from when they were 7 or 8 years of age. The first initiation ceremonies they attended were designed to make them independent on their mothers and other females. At other ceremonies and meetings with older males they were informed about the history and customs of the tribe and were taught how to survive and to be dependent on other males. Initiation continued over a number of years and boys gradually acquired knowledge through learning stories, attending ceremonies and through education by initiated males. Girls did not participate in initiation ceremonies. At puberty they were married and went to live with their husband.

literature than the standard dialect. The questions regarding this topic have also been touched upon earlier in the lessons: how is one to translate the language of someone of the lower classes in England into Estonian? Since we don’t have social classes, could lower class English just be translated into the language of the less educated? Similar examples could also be brought with regard to the language of smaller social groupings – slave language, IT people, lawyers, single mothers, etc. Some languages might not have any similar social/cultural group language variety that the SL uses. Language use: Tenor- Tenor is used to describe the relationship of the text producer to the text receiver – whether the relationship is close (e.g. between friends) or is there social distance (e.g. between professor and student, boss and employer, or child and parent in some societies). A text will usually have many elements that help us determine the different aspects of tenor, such

of years later by the colonists. Australia is,in fact, a continent-sized museum of ancient animals, modernised along certain lines by their own separate evolution. Two of the strangest animals in the world are the spiny anteater and the platypus. They are reptilelike mammals. They have hair like cats and dogs but they lay shelled eggs like snakes and turtles. Their babies are born from eggs but drink milk from their mothers. The ecidna (spiny anteater) eats ants which it catches with its long fat tongue. The platypus has a wide bill like a duck and a wide flat tail. It swims well but it can only stay under water for a few minutes. First it shuts its ears and eyes. Another group of Australian mammals, the marsupials, are less like reptiles than the spiny anteater and the platypus, but they are not highly developed mammals either. The kangaroo is born after seven weeks inside its mother

Jesus's wounds when he was crucified, and therefore Marat seems like a hero dying for a noble cause. Moreover, with depicting Marat as Christ, although David himself and Marat were both atheists, Jacques-Louis David in a way creates a new religion, praising the social reformers of the French Revolution. (Rosenblum, Woldermar-Jansen, 1984, p.30) In 1793 David gave a speech while presenting The death of Marat, where he calls citizens to honor and praise Marat: "Hurry, all of you! Mothers, widows, orphans, oppressed soldiers, all whom he defended at the risk of his life, approach and contemplate your friend; he who was so vigilant is no more; his pen, the terror of traitors, his pen has slipped from his hand! Grieve! Our tireless friend is dead. He died giving you his last crust of bread; he died without even the means to pay for his funeral. Posterity, you will avenge him; you will tell our descendants how he could have possessed riches if he had not preferred virtue to fortune

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

For nearly two decades the Serengeti wildebeest had been enjoying an (D) unprecedented population explosion. Twenty years ago, there had been perhaps 250,000. Now there were nearly two million, and together with a million gazelles and quarter of a million zebra, they formed the greatest concentration of wild animals left on earth. Nevertheless, of the half million calves now scattered across the plains; fewer than one in three would survive to adulthood. Many would simply lose their mothers in densely packed sea of animals, and fall easy (E) prey to predators. Often a new-born calf would become separated from its mother before it had learned to recognise her. Then the infant would attach itself to anything that moved, sometimes even (F) tottering hopefully towards a waiting lion. When the great migration began, many more youngsters would be swept away and drowned during the massed river crossings, dragged down by crocodiles or trampled beneath the (G) frantic press

Brett and Mike sit with Jake during the next bullfight. Romero works close to the bull, wearing him down slowly before he moves in for the kill. His suave and graceful performance delights everyone, including aficionados like Jake and Montoya. He utterly overshadows the other bullfighters, and his bullfighting gives the spectators "real emotion." Mike jokes afterward that Brett is falling in love with Romero, and he asks Jake to tell her that bullfighters beat their mothers. The following day Romero does not fight, and there is no bullfight scheduled the day after that. The action of the fiesta continues unabated, however.

Oliver twist - kokkuvõte

The next morning, Dr. Losberne came downstairs with the news that Rose had awakened, and everyone rejoiced the news. Chapter 34: Oliver was overjoyed at the news that she would recover, and was gathering flowers along the road for her sickroom when a post chaise came upon him. The voice of Giles called out to him and asked him of news, and he told him that she would live. A young gentleman then exited the coach and further questioned Oliver. He instructed Giles to take the coach back to his mothers, because he felt like walking the rest of the way. Harry Maylie had an affectionate meeting with his mother in which he expressed his desire to see Rose and give her his love. The old woman tried to warn him against this talking vaguely about Rose's unbecoming past, but Harry did not care. The evening was spent in joy, and the next day dawned as usual for Oliver except that Harry began going with him every morning to gather flowers

More moderate antislavery advocates and reformers praised the book for putting a human face on those held in slavery, emphasizing the impact slavery had on families, and helping the public understand and empathize with the plight of enslaved mothers. Proslavery forces claimed that slavery was sanctioned in the Bible, that Tom was too noble, and accused Stowe of fabricating unrealistic, onesided images of Southern slavery. Stowe responded to her critics by writing The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin, an annotated bibliography of her sources. Researching and writing The Key reinforced Stowe's antislavery sentiments and turned her into an abolitionist. Her second antislavery novel, Dred, A Tale of the
