do at work. Successful marketers are just the providers of stories that consumers choose to believe. This is a book about the psychology of satisfaction. Seth Godin believes that people tell themselves stories and then work hard to make them true. He thinks that people find a remarkable lie that will benefit them, they selfishly tell the lie to others, embellishing it along the way. A good story is where genuine customer staisfaction comes from. But the irony, of course, is that it´s a book about telling the truth. The only way your story will be believed, the only way people will tell themselves the lie you are depending on and the only way your idea will spread is if you tell the truth. He believes marketing is the most of powerful force available to people who want to make change. And with that power will comes responsibility. Marketers have the leverage to generate huge impact in less time- and with less money- that ever before. GOT MARKETING

Personal opinion I believe that Jane Austen tries to say that we should not judge the book by its cover and that we should look in the person's character deeper. I think that she has excellently achieved her purpose. The book is really well-written, the writing is effective and beautiful. She writes with great clarity and precision, and fills the dialogues with irony, making many characters reveal their foolishness to the reader through their ridiculous comments. Generally the characters are vivid and believable. The book is both humorous and deeply serious. Humour can be found everywhere in the book, in it's character descriptions, imagery, but mostly in it's conversations between characters. The strengths of the book are the descriptions of the personalities, dialogues and nature, which give a really good overview

Before departing, Marianne wanders the grounds of Norland uttering a histrionic elegy: "Dear, dear Norland... Oh! happy house... And you, ye well-known trees!" Elinor, however, experiences a far more subdued depression--though she is leaving behind not just her home but also a man she has grown to deeply care for and admire. The early chapters also display the wry irony for which Austen is so famous as a novelist. She is unsparingly critical of the characters she dislikes, but conveys her criticism with a pointed subtlety, which makes it all the more forceful. For example, in the opening chapter, Austen sketches the character of John Dashwood in three masterful sentences, achieving a biting acerbity: the author begins elliptically with a double negative, only slyly to refute it: "He was not an ill-disposed young man,

The Life of Dante, the Inferno of Dante

genuine novelist. Ezra Pound, an American poet and critic, believes that one hears far too much about Dante's Hell, and far too little about the Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Pound wrote an essay called "Dante" in his book, The Spirit of Romance written in 1952. He explains how Hell is the state of man who has lost the good of his intelligence, a state of man dominated by his passions. (129) Pound believes that Dante's Inferno should be approached with a "sense of irony." His use of simile is carried throughout the Inferno and enhances the effect and meaning of his experience in Hell. While it is natural for man to think of Hell as a place, Pound understands it as a condition of man's mental state in life, continued after death. The tendency to see objects and qualities only in one dimension limiting and drawing the reader away from the true meaning of Dante's journey. Pound sees the Inferno as a satire on man's aimless turmoil and restlessness

Foursyte Saga - The Man of Property

John Galsworthy The Man of Property PREFACE "The Forsyte Saga" was the title originally destined for that part of it which is called "The Man of Property"; and to adopt it for the collected chronicles of the Forsyte family has indulged the Forsytean tenacity that is in all of us. The word Saga might be objected to on the ground that it connotes the heroic and that there is little heroism in these pages. But it is used with a suitable irony; and, after all, this long tale, though it may deal with folk in frock coats, furbelows, and a gilt- edged period, is not devoid of the essential heat of conflict. Discounting for the gigantic stature and blood-thirstiness of old days, as they have come down to us in fairy-tale and legend, the folk of the old Sagas were Forsytes, assuredly, in their possessive instincts, and as little proof against the inroads of beauty and passion as Swithin, Soames, or even Young Jolyon

Pay-for performance: necessary or unsuitable way to increase efficiency in the public sector

over weight the positive effects. To begin with, as mentioned above pay-for performance idea is to motivate civil servants to perform better through monetary rewards. The problem is that this may reduce intrinsic motivation, the connection with the organisation and with the task is now based on money, not on public interest. Some workers may be concerned about the level of job security (the fear that if they perform badly they will be dismissed). But the irony lies in traditional model of governmental jobs, that was meant to be long term and stable. If motivation lies on monetary incentives it may give base for corruption. Another negative side with pay-for performance is that it causes competition between employees. This in turn, reduces cooperation, unity and solidarity. It may affect other tasks and bigger projects where everyone has to work together for a same goal. Differences and disagreements may cause more harm than pay-for performance can

As an hypochondriac, Mary Musgrove (from “Persuasion”) and mrs. Bennet (from “Pride and prejudice”) had a lot in common, also the similarities came across between lady Catherine (from “Pride and prejudice”) and sir Walter Elliot (from “Persuasion) who both high-valued their positions. There were many similar problems in both books, like pride, which came with high position, an unequal class ranking and marriage without love. Jane Austen had her own style, she knew how to use irony exquisitely and to criticize delicately society’s problems - to laugh out, but at the same time stay true to the traditions. During the research process I was convinced of my earlier judgements, that Jane Austen has her own character - stereotypes and certain main message, which runs through of all her novels. Additionally, I developed my formalization and analysing skills. The biggest difficulties occurred with finding right estonian definitions for english explanations.

The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. 3809. Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about. 3810. You don't marry someone you can live with you marry the person who you cannot live without. 3811. True love comes quietly, without banners or flashing lights. If you hear bells, get your ears checked. 3812. There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved. 3813

not monstrous. She is the nouveau riche American who rose from the same level as Jack and who may represent the healthy side of the American immigrant experience — ambitious, climbing the social ladder, but also big-hearted, egalitarian, generous, and fair. Titanic is more hopeful, less cynical than T h e Ship of Fools, suggesting that a few can transcend their foolishness and victimization to live full, meaningful lives. T h e irony of " T h e Ship of Fools" was derived from the point of view, the audience's knowledge that the struggles of the passengers are meaningless and fool ish because they are all trapped and doomed anyway. Titanic has some of that ironic feeling as Jack and Fabrizio exult in their good fortune at winning tickets on a ship that we know will sink. Irony goes with the territory in a story about a ship that we know is fated to destruction.

Leonidas, discovered it and told the others that, if they scraped the wax off, they would find something written on the wood underneath. This was done; the message was revealed and read, and afterwards passed on to the other Greeks. The rest is well-known. Thermopylae, Salamis, and Plataea ended the danger that the flame of Western civilization would be extinguished by an Oriental invasion. The story is not without a certain bitter irony, however, for Gorgo, who may be considered the first woman cryptanalyst, in a way pronounced a death sentence on her own husband: Leonidas died at the head of the heroic band of Spartans who held off the Persians for three crucial days at the narrow pass of Thermopylae. It was the Spartans, the most warlike of the Greeks, who established the first system of military cryptography. As early as the fifth century B.C., they employed a device called the "skytale," the earliest apparatus

different opinion: people’s control over the actions of the government, establishment of a multi-party system, discharge of political prisoners and real independence were among the demands. To what extent is a human being free and able to direct his own destiny in the nightmare-like horrible and tormenting conditions of being between two great hostile powers? These themes became essential to the young poets: Paul-Eerik Rummo (b. 1942), Jaan Kaplinski (b. 1941), along with satire and irony on the decaying political and social system, for example, Avalikud laulud (Public Songs) by Hando Runnel (b. 1938). The short story became the leading genre in prose. Arvo Valton (b. 1935) portrayed an ordinary “small man” with his grief and shortcomings as well as the disappearance of spiritual interests in Rataste vahel (Between the Wheels). Valton displayed himself as a refined satirist and keen-sighted psychologist. 1

" "Honestly? Everything's looking up right now. Your stepdad is like my fairy godfather. He's funding a few safety improvements to the studio and some much-needed upgrades. That's why I'm calling. The studio's going to be out of commission for the rest of the week. Classes will resume next Monday." I closed my eyes, struggling to tamp down a flare of exasperation. It wasn't Parker's fault that Stanton and my mom were overprotective control freaks. Clearly they didn't see the irony of defending me while I was surrounded by people trained to do that very thing. "Sounds good. I can't wait. I'm really excited to be training with you." "I'm excited, too. I'm going to work you hard, Eva. Your parents are going to get their money's worth." I set a filled glass in front of Cary and took a big gulp out of my own. It never ceased to amaze me how much cooperation money could buy. But again, that wasn't Parker's fault. "No complaints here."

eating. The ideal is, of course, to nd a mode that is farsighted on both a personal and a global level. The mistake is to pursue the latter and ignore the former. Even Dave "The Man" Scott, six-time winner of the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon and famed vegetarian athlete, returned to eating meat after competing for years on a 99% PPBD. Though he hasn't eaten red meat in 33 years, he now consumes fish, chicken, and turkey. "The irony of the whole situation is that when I switched back to chicken and sh, I was far leaner and felt more powerful. I mean, I was in better shape in my 40's as a meat eater than I ever was on a strictly plant-based diet.... When I did Ironman in '94, I felt like my strength, recovery, and muscle endurance was better than ever." Just because you don't want kids now, there is no reason to create hormonal issues that a ect everything from cognition to sexual function
