The Gifts of Imperfection: Embrace Who You Are

by Brené Brown Dr. Brené Brown is a researcher, writer, and professor. She is a member of the research faculty at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, where she has spent the past ten years studying a concept that she calls Wholeheartedness, posing the questions: How do we engage in our lives from a place of authenticity and worthiness? How do we cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection that we need to embrace our imperfections and to recognize that we are enough— that we are worthy of love, belonging, and joy? This book is full of powerful topics such as self-compassion, acceptance, and gratitude. As a researcher, she observed human behavior so she can identify and name the subtle connections, relationships, and patterns that help us make meaning of our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings.

Essay about Food Inc

Most of the food in America is controlled and manufactured by few main companies. The major food companies make huge profits of which are based on supplying cheap but contaminated food, the heavy use of petroleum-based chemicals (largely pesticides and fertilizers), and the promotion of unhealthy food consumption habits by the American public. I think that it’s absolutely wrong how the food indrustries and farms work. Nowadays, it’s all about the money. No compassion. My solution is to fight against the system. If many countries would cooperate, than there would be a chance that we could end this tragedy.

Romantic poetry and prose

Prometheus and Zeus in Shelley's narrative. Instead, Zeus is overthrown, which allows Prometheus to be released. 1821 A Defence of Poetry is an essay, first published posthumously in 1840. It was written in response to his friend Thomas Love Peacock's article The Four Ages of Poetry, where Peacock claimed that poetry though beautiful is utterly useless. Shelley argues that poetry brings about moral good, exercises and expands the imagination, and the imagination is the source of sympathy, compassion, and love, which rest on the ability to project oneself into the position of another person. 1822 The triumph of Life an elegy, unfinished, published in 1824 after Shelley died. Characteristics of Shelley's poetry: Themes: beauty, the passions, nature, political liberty, creativity, and the sanctity of the imagination Idealism belief in the goodness of mankind Revolutionary ides about politics, marriage, women Atheism Philosophical relationships Metaphorical language Sensuous aestheticism

Pride and Prejudice Book Report

Women choose men by counting their finances rather than admireing their looks or personalities. Mostly women are shown as desperate ladies, whenever a man was approaching their home, they would go insane-everything had to be perfect, movements and emotions not highly expressed/showed. Most of the discussion between Elizabeth and Jane is focused around the subject of the males yet not in the childish and immature way like their younger sisters'. In my opinion Mr. Darcy was left with too little compassion and gratitude. He basically arranged the marriage of three of Mrs. Bennet's daughters, but wasn't given enough gratitude. Although Ms. Bennet herself didn't know about it, still it should have been obvious, where did the money came then? I found the novel quite amusing sometimes, as the behaviour of Mrs. Bennet was very ridiculous at some points and nowadays it seems even more unrealistic then it was seen before. All in all, the book was interesting at some points, but still not for me

Pet therapy

 There is no real explanation however, for why animals can change people in various ways. Elizabeth Ormerod, who is spearheading a campaign to introduce pets into a Scottish prison, has watched the effect of animals on prisoners. "Animals help to dispel tension,” she says. The Scottish prisons that have some involvement with animals report fewer disturbances as well as better relationships between staff and prisoners. "Caring for a pet encourages compassion and reverence for life," says Ormerod. "You could call it humane education.”

Education

At its worst it is a world of crack on the streets, insensate violence, anomie, and the most desperate kind of poverty. The fact is that we live in a disintegrating culture. In the words of Ron Miller, editor of Holistic Review: "Our culture does not nourish that which is best or noblest in the human spirit. It does not cultivate vision, imagination, or aesthetic or spiritual sensitivity. It does not encourage gentleness, generosity, caring, or compassion. Increasingly in the late 20th Century, the economic-technocratic-statist worldview has become a monstrous destroyer of what is loving and life-affirming in the human soul." WHAT EDUCATION MUST BE FOR Measured against the agenda of human survival, how might we rethink education? Let me suggest six principles. First, all education is environmental education. By what is included or excluded we teach students that they are part of or apart from the natural world

Animal rights movements and their views on hunting

If they find anything it is given to media or used in campaigns. Animal Aid considers all hunting to be more cruel than necessary; they have been and are especially against fox hunting with hounds. In UK fox hunting with hounds has been traditional way of hunting for nobility, but in 2005 Animal Aid organization managed to get the legal ban of the usage of hounds in fox hunts. [1] Animal Equality’s mission is to achieve social change so that all animals would be treated with respect and compassion. They also promote vegan lifestyle. It is international organization, working in United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela and India. They mostly concentrate on farming industry and try to expose farms where animals are treated badly, harmed, starved, ill or in overly crowded and cramped spaces, but they also work against animals being used for entertainment or test subjects.

Living with nature, in a very natural way preserves their faith. you will find most of Dahab's Bedouin have to get away every now and then and go somewhere remote so that they can feel close to nature again. La Celestina Ejercicio de Traducción

you want so badly to make them happy, or that you so badly want pleasure. However, the passage says that we are forced to feel this attraction, to someone. What about the people that don't want a partner? I believe Rojas makes a good point about what effect love has on us, but it doesn't necessarily have to affect everyone. When I wrote my literal translation, I tried to write something that any modern English speaker could understand, and still feel the compassion in Celestina's statement. When I read the passage, I get strong feelings about love, and I tried to preserve that when switching to English. However, I think that this came out better in my literary version. My literal translation is plain and easy to understand, but doesn't have the lovely flow that the Spanish does (really, none of the English versions do. For me anyways). When I wrote the literary translation, I tried to reinstate that artistic and compassionate

also in the commentaries of scholars. The Koran emphazises bodily resurecction, a break from the pre-Islamic Arabian understanding of death. On Yawm al-Qiyamah, Muslims believe all mankind will be judged on their good and bad deeds. The Koran lists several sins that can condemn a person to hell, such as disbelief in God, and dishonesty, however, the Koran makes it clear God will forgive the sins of those who repent if he so wills. Good deeds, such as charity, prayer and compassion towards animals, will be rewarded with entry to heaven. For Muslims is heaven a place of joy and bliss, with Koranic references describing its features and the physical plesarues to come. The Pillars of Islam are five basic acts in Islam, considered obligatory for all believers. The Koran presents them as a framework for worship and a sign of commitment to the faith. or the re-revelation of something already known on which it tries to throw a new light. In all his work Larkin do not stop in bars at the time of attracting the reader with all the arms which he has: its histrionics, its humour, its acidity, its self-confidence, his swears words, his compassion: Larkin recognizes that this aspect is one of which they make his poetry recognizable: “If someone asked me what lines I am known for it would be the one about mum or dad or ‘Books are a load of crap’ – sentiments to which every bosom returns an echo, as Dr Johnson said”. "I desire you will do no such thing. Lizzy is not a bit better than the others; and I am sure she is not half so handsome as Jane, nor half so good-humoured as Lydia. But you are always giving her the preference." "They have none of them much to recommend them," replied he; "they are all silly and ignorant like other girls; but Lizzy has something more of quickness than her sisters." "Mr. Bennet, how can you abuse your own children in such a way? You take delight in vexing me. You have no compassion for my poor nerves." "You mistake me, my dear. I have a high respect for your nerves. They are my old friends. I have heard you mention them with consideration these last twenty years at least." "Ah, you do not know what I suffer." "But I hope you will get over it, and live to see many young men of four thousand a year come into the neighbourhood." "It will be no use to us, if twenty such should come, since you will not visit them."

Ameerika kirjandus alates I maailmasõjast kuni tänapäevani.

In general he views life in america as a horrible dream, where everything becomes standardized. The american nation is seen by hertzog as a crowd of lonely souls, frightened, faceless, brainwashed by the government and the media. But herzog is not only critical of the government but he is also disgusted by the middle class, believes that most of them have morally fallen, their desire in life is greed. Herzogs brother. Herzog thinks that such qualities as mercy, compassion, kind heartedness are very rare in the modern world. All in all he believes that values and ideas that reign in america are worthless. At the same time herzog as an intellectual he denounces existentsialsm, believes that it degrades man, deprives man of self confidence. Existentsialism makes man accept the idea of social inevitability. Herzogs attitude never takes the form of active social protest. He doesn't do anything about his dissatisfaction. Russia's ruling classes. Gorky defined socialist realism as the "realism of people who are rebuilding the world," and points out that it looks at the past "from the heights of the future's goals". Gorky considered the main task of writers to help in the development of the new man in socialist society. Gorky's version of a heroic revolutionary is Pavel Vlasov from the novel The Mother, who displays selflessness and compassion for the working poor, as well as discipline and dedication. Gorky's works were significant for the development of literature in Russia and became influential in many parts of the world. A New Earth

Or instead of imagining it, watch the news on TV tonight. Recognize the ego for what it is: a collective dysfunction, the insanity of the human mind. When you recognize it for what it is, you no longer misperceive it as somebody's identity. Once you see the ego for what it is, it becomes much easier to remain nonreactive toward it. you don't take it personally anymore. there is no complaining, blaming, accusing, or making wrong. Nobody is wrong. It is the ego in someone, that's all. Compassion arises when you recognize that all are suffering from the same sickness of the mind, some more acutely than others. You do not fuel the drama anymore that is part of all egoic relationships. What is its fuel? Reactivity. The ego thrives on it. DO YOU WANT PEACE OR DRAMA? You want peace. There is no one who does not want peace. Yet there is something else in you that wants the drama, wants the conflict. You may not be able to feel it at this moment
