The equipment are boxing gloves and wrist wraps. The fighting takes place in a ring.
THE RESULT IS DECIDED
The result is decided when an opponent is deemed incapable to continue by a referee , is disqualified for breaking a rule, resigns by throwing in a towel , or based on the judges' scorecards at the end of the contest.
HISTORY
The exact origin of boxing cannot be traced, but forms of fighting are among the oldest sports known to man. It was introduced in the ancient Greek Olympics in 688 BC. Ever wonder why they call them boxing " rings ", even though they are square ? In Ancient Rome, boxing rules were introduced and competitors were required to remain within a circular ring drawn on the arena floor. They have been known as "rings" ever since . The first modern boxing match took place in Britain when Christopher Monck, 2nd Duke of Albemarle engineered a bout between his butler and his butcher with the latter winning the prize. Early fighting had no written rules. There were no weight divisions or round limits, and no referee. The first boxing rules, called the Broughton's rules, were introduced by champion Jack Broughton in 1743.
JAMES FIGG
James Figg was the first heavyweight champion. He opened the first fighting academy in London. In 1992 he was inducted into the International Hall of Fame as the “ Father of Boxing”. Only loss in his career came when Ned Sutton beat him to claim the title.
MIKE TYSON (also known as Malik Abdul Aziz)
Mike Tyson was former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and the first ever and youngest to hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles at the same time.

month of July or August. The time between two competitions was called the Olympiad. Football “isn’t a matter of life and death. It’s more important than that.” There is much that could be said about ice hockey. The first game was played by British soldiers in Canada in the 1850s. In 1875, James Creighton drew up the rules and hosted the first indoor ice hockey match. It is believed that the game was based on the English game of field hockey, the Irish game of hurling (brutal field hockey), the Scottish game of shinty and the Native American game of lacrosse. Boxing may be the oldest sport, but it has always been a brutal one. Kicking, biting and hitting a man while down were an unfortunate part of boxing until, in 1743, the Brits laid down the first set of rules that provided for padded gloves, 3-minute rounds with rests, and the 10-second knockout rule. Most importantly, it prevented blows being rained on a man who was down, on one knee, or hanging on the ropes. Points were awarded only for clean blows to the head and torso.

ceremonies for important people. Later games became part of religious festivals of honouring the gods but mostly they honoured the king of the gods Zeus. The ancient stadium in Olympia could accommodate more than 40,000 spectators. The only event in the first 13 games was the stadion which is a running-race of 192 metres. As the years passed, longer running races and other types of competition became a part of the games wrestling, the pentathlon, boxing and chariot-racing. The pentathlon was a combination of long jump, running, discus, and javelin throwing and wrestling. The games were so important that truce was called out between the fighting city-states. Olympic winners were greatly honoured. They were given olive wreaths as prizes and were treated like true heroes. 3. The modern Olympic Games The Olympic Games are the most important international athletic competition in the world.

felt on being treated as a Jew at Princeton. (See Important Quotations Explained) The novel begins with Jake Barnes, the novel's narrator and protagonist, describing Robert Cohn. Cohn was born to a wealthy Jewish family in New York. At Princeton, Cohn faced rampant anti-Semitism. To minimize his feelings of inferiority and to combat his shyness, he threw himself into boxing, becoming the university's middleweight champion. He married very soon after his graduation, on the rebound from his unhappy college experience. He and his wife had three children. Cohn lost most of his fifty-thousand-dollar inheritance, and, after five years, his wife left him, just when he had made up his mind to walk out on her. After the divorce, Cohn moved to California. There, he began spending time with a literary crowd, and he soon began backing a magazine

1) INDIAN ROCK ART: A NATIONAL TREASURE IN DANGER Unrecognized, unprotected, this priceless legacy of primitive art has endured the ravages of nature only to fall victim to wanton destruction by ,,civilized" man. Like the huge stone statues of Easter Island and prehistoric cave paintings of Altamira and Lascaux, North American Indian rock art is surrounded by an atmosphere of mystery. Although examples of rock art exist at some 15000 sites in canyons, deserts, caves and river gorges. Nowadays, however, primitive rock art in the United States has become a new field of scientific study. Klaus F Wellmann wrote two books about rock art. He is a professor of medicine. Rock art represents the history of aboriginal Americans. In the most cases the art is an expression of ideas and way of life, ritual ceremonies, hunting, fighting. The pictures of people and animals are often strikingly lifelike and artistic. Many of these ancient relics have been destroyed by the ravages of nature and of man

All my friends go in for different kinds of sport, such as water polo, gymnastics, horse-racing, wrestling, fencing, weightlifting, boxing, ice-hockey, speed- skating, figure-skating, football, basket-ball, volley-ball, etc. We have fine teams at our school and different kinds of competitions take place there. The boys of my school are crazy about football, they play football and the girls are football fans. The girls never miss a single match played by school teams.
