The Great Coastal Gate, along with the Viru Gates, are the last of six gates that controlled access to the town in Medieval times. The punk movement in Soviet Estonia has been a largely undiscovered topic. There have been few books (e.g. Trubetsky) written about it and the comprehensiveness of the books is rather questionable. This is why the bachelor´s thesis set out to not only cover the existing sources but also, to further discuss some topics and questions, ten interviews were conducted with (former) punks involved in the punk movement in Soviet Estonia. The first manifestations of punk culture arriving to the Estonian SSR could be detected in the later years of the 1970s, largely due to the fact that Finnish TV channels could be watched in Northern Estonia and thus enabled the youth of Soviet Estonia to get a glimpse of bands like The Sex Pistols etc. The punk movement in Soviet Estonia started gathering momentum with the unarranged youth protest that took place in Tallinn in 1980 when the punk band Propeller was not allowed to perform by the authorities
