Despite sustaining much damage the surface is much rubbed, the background was lightly overpainted with unmodulated black, the upper left corner has been broken and repaired, a transparent veil on the model's head was turned into an extravagant hairdo and several fingers were grossly retouched - it is nonetheless in better condition than many of Leonardo's other paintings. The sitter's hair is confined tightly to her head under a very fine net veil with a woven border of gold-wound threads. As in many of Leonardo's portraits, the composition comprises a pyramidic spiral and the sitter is caught in the motion of turning to her left, reflecting Leonardo's life-long preoccupation with the dynamics of movement. This work in particular shows da Vinci's expertise in painting the human form. The outstretched hand of Cecilia was painted with great detail. Da Vinci paints every contour of each fingernail, each wrinkle around her knuckles, and

MRSA

Strains of CA- MRSA are now found with increasing frequency in hospitals and other health-care settings. A variety of staph bacteria are normally found on the skin or in the nose of about three in every 10 people at any given time. If you have staph on your skin or in your nose but aren't sick, you are considered to be "colonized" but not infected. Staph bacteria are generally harmless unless they enter the body through a cut or other wound, and even then they often cause only minor skin infections in healthy people. But sometimes, usually in older adults and people who are ill or have weakened immune systems, ordinary staph infections can cause serious illness. Although 30 percent of the population may be colonized with ordinary staph at any given time, just a small percentage of those people are colonized with MRSA. Healthy people can be colonized with MRSA and have no ill effects. However, they can pass the germ to others

My uncle Tom is the oldest and he is a typical violent parent. He always tries to force my cousins to be more ambitious and he gets wound up, when they don’t get picked into the sportsteam or the school play. And then there is my uncle James. He is a complete opposite. He is a artteacher and he is completely carefree. He never rebukes with his children and he is always relaxed. He wants that everyone discovers their creative side and engages painting or ’’skulptuur’’ or something. Uncle Paul is average and he is very funny. He always tells stories. As a soldier in World War I, Jake is wounded. Although he does not say so directly, there are numerous moments in the novel when he implies that, as a result of his injury, he has lost the ability to have sex. Jake's narration is characterized by subtlety and implication. He prefers to hint at things rather than state them outright, especially when they concern the war or his injury. Early in the novel, for example one must read the text very closely to grasp the true nature of Jake's wound; it is only later, when Jake goes fishing with Bill, that he speaks more openly about his impotence. Jake's physical malady has profound psychological consequences. He seems quite insecure about his masculinity. The fact that Brett, the love of his life, refuses to enter into a relationship with him compounds this problem. Jake, with typical subtlety, suggests that she does not want to because it would mean giving up sexual intercourse

(Friedlaender, 1952, p.25) Furthermore, Marat was using his bathroom as an office, because he had a severe case of skin disease and taking a bath would relieve his pain. Accordingly, David painted him dead in a bathtub, almost in a Christ like pose. The wound on Marat's right chest can be compared to Jesus's wounds when he was crucified, and therefore Marat seems like a hero dying for a noble cause. Moreover, with depicting Marat as Christ, although David himself and Marat were both atheists, Jacques-Louis David in a way creates a new religion, praising the social reformers of the French Revolution. Opening the story of chapter, A helps to give a laconic ... and at the same time detailed information into the action proper. NT: The motion of the camp at night was everywhere. People sang. People cried. People fought. People loved. People hated. Some were sad. Others gay. Others with friends. Others lonely. This is regarded bad grammar and this is characteristic of irregular oral speech (dialogue). NT: I am the first one saw her. 1

Desdemona, however ignores the comments and ponders the meaning of adultery, asking if Emilia would ever cheat on her husband. The two discuss the nature of sexual appetites and the double standards set by men over women before Desdemona finally readies herself for bed. Act 5 Scene 1 Iago and Roderigo wait outside in the dark as Cassio leaves Bianca. Giving Roderigo a sword, he sends the man in to attack him as he leaves. However, Roderigo fails to pierce his armor and instead takes a wound himself. Iago, jumps in during the fray and stabs Cassio, leaving the man on the ground unsure of who stabbed him. left her house; he went straight to the Sowerberry's home. There he found Noah Clayborn and the maid Charlotte talking of kissing. He chastises them, appalled that they would discuss or do such things, and satisfied that he completed his task, left. Chapter 28: As they ran through the fields, Sikes had tried to bring Oliver with him. After Toby abandoned them however, it became impossible and stays alive at the same time, so he wrapped his shawl around Oliver's wound and left him in the field. Then, diverting the attention of the pursuers to him and not Oliver, he fired his pistol and ran. The butler of the house, Mr. Giles, a houseboy who was around the age of thirty, Brittles, and a tinker who was sleeping in the shed were the ones pursuing. But hearing the gunshot, they soon gave up on their chase and went back to the house. The next morning the three sat telling the tale of the robbery to the cook and the maid. While this was going on,

Even Superman has weak spots which humanize him and make h i m sympathetic: his vulnerability to Kryptonite, his inability to see through lead, and his secret identity which is always in danger of being exposed. W O U N D E D HEROES Sometimes a hero may seem to be well-adjusted and in control, but that control masks a deep psychic wound. M o s t of us have some old pain or hurt that we don't think about all the time, but which is always vulnerable on some level of awareness. These wounds of rejection, betrayal, or disappointment are personal echoes of a universal pain that everyone has suffered from: the pain of the child's physical and emotional separation from its mother. In a larger sense, we all bear the wound of separation from God or the womb of existence — that place from which we are

judicial proof is most complete. And with all that, who is there who believes in vampires? -- Rousseau The rest of the site was an alphabetized listing of all the different myths of vampires held throughout the world. The first I clicked on, the Danag, was a Filipino vampire supposedly responsible for planting taro on the islands long ago. The myth continued that the Danag worked with humans for many years, but the partnership ended one day when a woman cut her finger and a Danag sucked her wound, enjoying the taste so much that it drained her body completely of blood. I read carefully through the descriptions, looking for anything that sounded familiar, let alone plausible. It seemed that most vampire myths centered around beautiful women as demons and children as victims; they also seemed like constructs created to explain away the high mortality rates for young children, and to give men an excuse for infidelity. Many of the stories involved bodiless spirits and warnings against

"Stay away from my brother, Eva." "Why?" "Because I said so." My temper ignited, which felt good after all the self-recrimination and doubts I'd been drowning in since we'd screwed like feral bunnies. I decided to see if turnabout was fair play in Gideon Cross's world. "Stay away from Magdalene, Gideon." His jaw tightened. "She's just a friend." "Meaning you haven't slept with her...? Yet." "No, damn it. And I don't want to. Listen-" The music wound down and he slowed. "I have to go. I brought you here, and I would prefer to be the one who takes you home, but I don't want to pull you away if you're enjoying yourself. Would you rather stick around and go home with Stanton and your mother?" Enjoying myself? Was he kidding or clueless? Or worse. Maybe he'd written me off so completely that he wasn't paying attention to me at all. I pushed away from him, needing the distance. His scent was messing with my head. "I'll be fine

tion by applying power to an electromagnet in some form or another. We won’t spend our time on magnetic theory here. Instead, we will look at the basic motor types and their applications in embedded systems. Stepper Motors Stepper motors come in three flavors: permanent-magnet, variable- reluctance, and hybrid. Figure 7.1 shows a cross-sectional view of a variable- reluctance (VR) stepper motor. The VR stepper has a soft iron rotor with teeth and a wound stator. As current is applied to two opposing stator coils (the two “B” coils in the figure), the rotor is pulled into alignment with these two coils. As the next pair of coils is energized, the rotor advances to the next position. The permanent magnet (PM) stepper has a rotor with alternating north and south poles (Figure 7.2). As the coils are energized, the rotor is pulled around. This figure shows a single coil to illustrate the concept, but a real

When she thought of her mother, her confidence gave way a little; but she would not allow that any objections there had material weight with Mr. Darcy, whose pride, she was convinced, would receive a deeper wound from the want of importance in his friend's connections, than from their want of sense; and she was quite decided, at last, that he had been partly governed by this worst kind of pride, and partly by the wish of retaining Mr. Bingley for his sister. The agitation and tears which the subject occasioned, brought on a headache; and it grew so much worse towards the evening, that, added to her unwillingness to see Mr. Darcy, it

Rationally, none of this makes sense. It's just a game! Isn't it? Hardly. The relationship between sport and earnest fan is anything but game- like. It is serious, intense, and highly personal. An apt illustration comes from one of my favorite anecdotes. It concerns a World War II soldier who returned to his home in the Balkans after the war and shortly thereafter stopped speaking. Medical examinations could find no physical cause for the problem. There was no wound, no brain damage, no vocal impairment. He could read, write, understand a con- versation, and follow orders. Yet he would not talk-not for his doctors, not for his friends, not even for his pleading family. Perplexed and exasperated, his doctors moved him to another city and placed him in a veterans' hospital where he remained for 30 years, never breaking his self- imposed silence and sinking into a life of social isolation. Then one day, a radio in

He interpreted the message as "Please have director Koyagani send a wire stating the sum which has been decided to be spent on the South Hattori Memorial Library in order that this business may be wound up." Consequently, he dictated a decode that omitted United States: Relations between Japan and England are not in accordance with expectation. It's the little--John details that are vital. Little things make big things happen. Wooden, Hall of Fame NCAA basketball coach (10 NCAA titles in 12 years) Common Questions and Criticisms CAN THIS FREQUENCY REALLY BE ENOUGH? Yes. Doug McGuff MD compares burn healing to muscle tissue healing to explain: Building muscle is actually a much slower process than healing a wound from a burn [which typically takes one to two weeks]. A burn heals from the ectodermal germ line, where the healing rate is relatively faster, because epithelial cells turn over quickly. If you scratch your cornea, for instance, it's generally going to be healed in 812 hours. Muscle tissue, in contrast, heals from the mesodermal germ line, where the healing rate is typically signi cantly slower. All in all--when you separate all the emotion and positive
