Essay about England

Was the British Empire a good thing that enlarged the world creating possibilities for everyone or was it just a way for some to gain power and wealth? How is the modern-day Commonwealth different? The British Empire used to be one of the largest and wealthiest empires in the world. Its prosperity started at the early 1600s and reached its high peak at the end of the World War I. The Empire faded into the Commonwealth at the end of 1930s as one colony after another gained its independence. After studying the topic I would say that it cannot be said whether the British Empire was a very good or a very bad thing. Of course any kind of oppression should not be approved of and actually the Empire and native British forced on their way of life and culture to the colonies. On the other hand the Empire also helped its subjects to develop in a positive sense. In overall Britain ruled several parts of the world, like India, parts of Africa, New

Philip Larkin poetry analysis

far/. At first it gives the reader an idea that he is talking about two lovers, but actually he is talking about England and USA. He describes the darkness that is creeping up. In my opinion he is talking about USA, which is beginning to creep up on England or on Europe. And because of that England is becoming a less dominant and more isolated place. He is saying that intimacy is dying and that may represent the globalization. Another political poem I really enjoyed is ´´Homage To a Government´´. Larkin says that next year they are going to bring all the soldiers home, because they (citizens) want the money for them selves. And that their children do not know it's a different country, because they did not achieve anything in the war. But at least they can leave their children some money. I think that Larkin means that the troops are going to be brought home from Vietnam. At the end of almost every line in the

Millised ajakirjandustudengid saavad tulevikus edukaks?

Which Kinds of Journalism Students are the Ones Who Succeed? It's the end of another semester at the college where I teach, and as I contemplate doing final grades for my journalism classes I find myself thinking about what makes one student successful and another less so. What's the secret formula for doing well in journalism school, and then translating that into a career in the news business? Is it writing ability? Some of my students are naturally gifted writers, the types who always

surreal and slow paced series of moving shots. Jim JArmuch is focused on the two characters and on a atmosphere of the settings. Two characters that are named Zack and Jack are the opposite personalities by their names, but they are destined to clash against their own personalities. Zack is a late-night radio DJ, who does not care about others, expect his expensive shoes. Jack is a pimp, who seems to think only with his heart not only his head. They end up trapped in a Jail, they meet another person- Bob/Roberto, who confesses his guilt of murdering another human being, fact that Zack and Jack do not deserve to be in prison - helps us to see the frustration. MISE en scene- position of the shots, framing, lighting, set design and sound helps us elaborate the feeling and composition of the scene. It combines the elements of mood, setting, character personality and reinforces this through image and sound. At the begging the music

Internet ( slaidid )

IP is the primary protocol in the Internet Layer of the Internet Protocol Suite and has the task of delivering datagrams from the source host to the destination host solely based on their addresses. For this purpose, IP defines addressing methods and structures for datagram encapsulation. The structure of the Internet The Internet is basically a hierarchy that allows any Internet connected device in one geographic location, talk to another Internet connected device in another geographic location. The way that the information is transmitted varies greatly, and in some countries, wireless ham radios are even used to transmit email. Keep in mind that the word "connected" is used very loosely here. The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model The seven open systems interconnection layers (OSI) are a staple of most networking textbooks. The idea is that a network will work on many different levels, or "layers" each of which will

Inglise keele C1 tase essee - holiday time

Holiday time My holiday began from a class trip to Tartu. There we visited the Estonian National Defence College. Afterwards, I took a bus ride to Tallinn, where I spent the rest of my holiday. Due to my brother moving house, I had to help him out with that. The majority of the work involved stacking firewood from one shed to another, whilst sorting it out to dried and raw. During free time, we went shopping into different shopping centres. I left Tallinn on Saturday, so I would have a day to prepare for school.

They can share a video within facebook, with is upladed in their servers or post a new one with youtube, vimeo or another video sharing platform which has enabled embedding. Same goes with text. Literary analyses of Beowulf

possesses no good qualities. With the description of Grendel the author actually describes Beowulf as well as he is always the absolute contrary to Grendel. We know that this is an Anglo-Saxon text because it has all the characteristic features of Anglo-Saxon literature. For example the metrical system is alliteration and it is used in abundance e.g. "Many at morning, as men have told me", "Folk-leaders faring from far and near", "By that bloody battle the boon had come" etc. Another characteristic is that there is no rhyme, but rhythm. This was very important in the Anglo-Saxon period as in the contemporary time the epic was performed by court singers. "Beowulf" was written with four beats to each line. The lines were divided into two parts, each with two beats. This is a natural place for a stop in a line of words and is called a caesura. For example "Many at morning, as men have told me" or "Death-sick his den in the dark moor sought" etc. Here one

When a world loses a language it loses a unique treasure

From society? Where there are liars, thiefs, frauds, hypocrisists, violent and selfish people? Or from cartoons, where a cat hits a mouse and the mouse hits it back? When languages die, songs and traditions die as well. Our ancestors use to dance and sing at parties. There were certain dances, for example kaera-jaan, and games, such as ''Me lähme rukkist lõikama''. In which people run around in pairs in circle and in certain place of the song, they start looking for another partner. And one will be left inside the circle without a partner. We played it in kindergarten. It was our tradition at every party. In my family we had a custom before the meal. We all held eachothers hands and we said: ''Õnnistatud söögiaega ja head isu!'' Also, I don't know if other cultures wish you luck with the work, but usually when estonians see another man working, they say: '' Jõudu tööle!'' and the worker answers: ''Jõudu tarvis!''

The opening of a light gap brings many changes to the section of rainforest. Drip tips Equatorial rainfall is so heavy that trees can easily get damaged during storms. Their solution is to shed the rain as quickly as possible. Each leaf has a spout called a drip tip which acts like a gargoyle on a church, channelling the water away in a quick but controlled manner so the tree crown isn't weighed down. Drip tips may protect the tree in another way. Releasing the rain at drop size reduces the risk of the thin soil below being washed away so easily. An unstable soil structure could spell disaster for the larger trees. Epiphytes An epiphyte is a plant that grows upon another plant (such as a tree) non-parasitically or sometimes upon some other object (such as a building or a telegraph wire), derives its moisture and nutrients from the air and rain and sometimes from debris accumulating around

Any less and you won't be able to stop in time if the driver ahead slams on the brakes.9 9 Keep your eyes moving. Don't get in the habit of staring at the back of the car ahead of you. Periodically shift your eyes to the side-view mirrors, the rear-view mirror, and ahead to where you'll be in 10-15 seconds. Doing this, you can spot a potentially dangerous situation before it happens. 10 Dim your lights when driving at night, when another car is approaching, or when you are following behind a vehicle. Your lights can temporarily blind another driver. 3. 1 Avoid distractions when you are driving. Pull over if you need to talk on the phone, read directions, or eat a snack. It only takes a second or two of distraction to get into trouble.

disturbing is the fact that an alarming proportion--approximately onethird--of the students have neither. Eating brown bread Interestingly enough, bread, a good source of fiber, enjoys popularity among young people. 75 per cent of the students surveyed eat three or more slices of brown bread per day, with only a quarter of respondents restricting themselves to one or two slices. Eating fat As regards fat consumption, the majority of the students eat margarine. Four students prefer butter, and another four eat neither. Conclusion It is noticeable that the eating habits of students in their final year at Freedonian Secondary School are not very healthy. Moreover, there are no students who have both breakfast and school lunch, eat more than four slices of brown bread per day, and avoid fat. In this essay, I will discuss whether prevention is better than trying to treat people who are ill and whether or not this is possible in all cases

Homer also wrote the "Oddity", in which Penelope was the last hardship that Ulysses endured on his journey. Actually, Homer was not written by Homer but by another man of that name. Marriage and Family People usually marry in their early to mid-20s. Most weddings are performed in a church, but a minority are also performed in a registry office. After marriage, many people in rural areas stay close to their family's home and visit frequently. Many couples, particularly in the cities, live together before or instead of marriage. Typically, the bonds between siblings in an Irish family are especially strong. In rural areas, extended families often live near one another, and family members who have moved to Dublin or overseas in search of work often return for Christmas and other family celebrations or funerals. Traditionally, women have not worked outside the home except to help on the family farm, but in Dublin and other cities the majority of women now have jobs. 34.2 percent (1999)Salary levels for women still lag behind those of men, but gender discrimination is illegal. The Irish have elected two consecutive women presidents since 1991.

"The case for socialism"

It is manifest in the Court with its great expense and elaborate display; the country house with its ancient associations and dependent village; the segregation of a group of schools (ironically called ,,public" schools) to provide each new generation with the manners and habits of ruling class; the clubs and social life of London; the columns of ,,Society" gossip in the newspapers and the differences of clothing and accent by which members of the ,,classes" can instantly recognise one another. We should respect our fellow creatures because they are good or clever, gifted or wise not because they happen to possess advantages of wealth or power. In so far as we accept these false standards (of wealth and class) we make ourselves less than free men. We deny the eqality of our common humanity. Vandalism. The worsest vice, because the most senseless, peculiar to our own time has been the destructive vandalism with which we have treated our physical heritage in our town and country

Some people say that board games are only for small children

If someone says "board game" then people will start think about small kids playing snake and ladders. I agree that that kind of board games is for childrens but nowadays there is very much dice games for grown-ups too. The most famous adults board game is chess. Much children can play it too, but still it needs little bit bigger brain and someway it likes for intelligent people more than the others. To: Klick Costumer Service From: Edgar Rootalu, [email protected] Subject: Laptop Fujitsu Siemens enquiry I saw your advertisement in the latest ,,Eesti Ekspress". It raised some interesting thoughts in me. I consider buying this notebook. First, it says that it is quick and powerful. Does this mean that I can play every computer game existing. Another question is about the price. It says the computer has a remarkable discount. So how much did this thing cost earlier? I have a technical question also. The operation system is new Windows Vista, but can i run some old programs too like from ninties? The ad says i can do the payment by instalments. So if i do this can i do everything with the laptop or i have some limits which comprise downloadings and such other things. How high is the interest rate? I look forward to your answer!

Getting physical

Conversely, the person who maintains good eye contact is displaying sincerity, attention, and respect. How can you practice and learn good eye contact? The only way to cultivate good eye contact is to practice doing it each and every time you speak. Here are some tricks for doing that: · Be aggressive. When speaking, pick out a specific pair of eyes in the audience and bore right into them, for just a few seconds. Then move over to another set; do the same, and on and on. · Don't allow your eyes to jump around helterskelter. Do it with purpose. Look left. Make a statement. Look center. Make a statement. Look right. Make a statement. Look at eyes in the back of the room. Make a statement. · Each time your eyes move, pretend to yourself that you are talking only to that individual. A number of skillful business speakers have said that with these techniques they have been able

We need to do something fast before our city doesn`t become deserted. Firstly, we have to create industrial park. It will help to reduce factories in the cities, where a lot of people live. Another solution is to start stricting the laws. If the laws be very strict, then less and less persons will be able to get a license for the new factory. Finally, we should renovate our factories. Kaebekiri Letter of complaint - jeans

this brand, but in fact I have seen them in a local store. Though your advertisement claimed that the price was unbeatable, the ones in the local store were much cheaper. Although your advertisement claimed that the jeans were excellent quality, the zip was broken. The problems do not stop here. You sent me a wrong size. Furthermore, the free T-shirt was missing. In conclusion, I would like another pair of black jeans, not blue ones as you sent last time otherwise I will have to take the matter further. Yours faithfully, Name
