A true friend Nothing is more important to me in my life than friendship. It is the glue that keeps my life together, the soothing medicine that helps me through the hard times and the source of fun and activities. I do not know what I would do without friendship. All the people create they^re friendships by themselves. Though it is not a same as the relationship with a mother, father, sister, brother or any of the other family member. People who have true friends consider themselves as the luckiest people on earth. When we are facing a difficult situation in our lives, only true friends come forward to help us overcome all the difficulties. They are committed and stand by your side, even in the difficult phases of your life. False friends show you their back and join hands with either your enemies or with other successful people. False friends are those who support you in times wh...

They plot a rebellion against Jones. Two pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, prove themselves important figures and planners of this dangerous enterprise. When Jones forgets to feed the animals, the revolution occurs, and Jones and his men are chased off the farm. Manor Farm is renamed Animal Farm, and the Seven Commandments of Animalism are painted on the barn wall. The rebellion is a success - The animals complete the harvest and meet every Sunday to debate farm policy. The pigs, because of their intelligence, become the supervisors of the farm. 12.d “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” (Mahatma Gandhi) Mahatma Ghandi expresses that everything starts with us, our willingness to help create the world we dream of. It is unlikely that any of us will be the next Mother Teresa but every person has hidden power to do something that benefits to the society. People´s roles are nowadays as important as the next persons, even if they think that little things are insignificant and have no effect, with enough people these small things add up and make an even bigger change that any single organization or person could ever do. To be the change we want to see in the world, people do not have to be smart, rich or well educated. They need to have a dream and commitment. The problems facing the world today are great, and it will surely take the greatness of millions if not b...

1948 is book that has many ideas twisted together. Lovestory, fears, how Winston whose daily work is rewriting history tries to rebel by falling in love to Julia, altough she isn´t his taste. This book was very interesting because there are many connections to real life for example Big Brother evokes to the cult of personality buillt up around Joseph Stalin, also Winston´s job „revising history“ is based on the Stalinist habit of airbrushing images of „fallen“ people from group photographs and removing references to them in books and newspapers. The thought police is based on the NKVD and the tortures of the Minstry of Love evoke the procedures used by the NKVD. Actually the statement „2+2=5“ that Winston had to beliece was a communist party slogan from the second five-year plan, in which they wanted to full five-year plan in four years. In my opinion it goeds together with nowadays- that people want to get more and faster, they do no...
Some people seem born lucky. Everything they touch turns to gold. Others are dogged by misfortune. But what is luck- i would define it as the accidental way things happed without being planned. Some people say that they are lucky and others say that they are unlucky. In my opinion is not just people who might be lucky or unlucky- it can be single acts. When someone does not win a card game or misses a shot in basketball then they often think that they are unlucky. People who say that they have bad luck are negative. For example they woun´t even play bingo or take part in raffle. They think that because they are unlucky they can not be lucky. I am sure that if they wait something good will happen their lives. I like to wish people good luck, because i think it is a nice thing to say if someone has an interview or an exam. But people pass exams or interviews because they studied hard or spoke well, not because of luck. People who consider...
Dear Sir/Madam, I read with great regret that you want to reduce the funding for English college Film Club. I would like propose the ideas to enhance the Film Club to not to lose the funding. I will try to change your mind by bringing out folowing reasons. Firstly, Film Club evenings take plave on Fridays 6-10 pm. Usually films are in English and quiz evenings about films are always very popular. Students like to relax and communicate with each other, it is also popular because watching films is not too physically demanding. Secondly, there are some problems but Film Club team is trying to solve them. The biggest problem is lack of money and because of that we would like to raise the entry fee. In addition to money problems DVD library films are all from ancient times and this collection has not been renewed since 1995. We are discussing about throwing a Film Fair, where people could donate nowadays films to us. Finally, last month ...

Summary • Early history of translation studies – Cicero and St. Jerome (what did they do/how/why are they relevant to translation studies?) St. Jerome – Greek scholar, did some translation work. Lived during the 4th century. Jerome is best known as the translator of the Bible into Latin. A previous version (now called the Old Latin) existed, but Jerome's version far surpassed it in scholarship and in literary quality. Jerome was well versed in classical Latin (as well as Greek and Hebrew), but deliberately translated the Bible into the style of Latin that was actually spoken and written by the majority of persons in his own time. This kind of Latin is known as Vulgate Latin (meaning the Latin of the common people), and accordingly Jerome's translation is called the Vulgate. Cicero – Lived during the 1st century BC. Roman politician, philosopher & translator. Theory ‘‘word-for-word’’ & ‘‘sense-for-sen...
Paul Graham, “Hackers & Painters” A Summary In “Hackers & Painters, Paul Graham, computer science expert and painter, explains examines what motivates computer programmers to do what they do, as well as attempt to answer many of the questions that have arisen with computers. He explains the word “hacker” has more than the one definition most of us are familiar with. The hackers who Paul Graham refers to throughout the book are the good computer programmers who have made all that we have real. Graham's first chapter, "Why Nerds Are Unpopular," tries to explain why smart kids are at the bottom of the food chain in high school and what their priorities are. While writing about nerds, Graham talks about his own progress to become computer scientist and painter. He explains the similarities between painters and computer hackers, including the desire to make existing things better.

Technology has dramatically changed leisure and hobbies Family drives with a car, husband turns the car looking at the GPS directions to home. Wife shares pictures to Instagram with her iPhone and in the backseat girl is playing with her iPad and boy reads on his kindle. This is normal nowadays, because technolgy has been improved for example people can now communicate with each other much faster. It is great, although it can also harm people. Technology is serious responsibility- if people do not use an invention carefully, then it would end up the wrong way. The word „Leisure“ meaning changes in every 10 to 20 years. 50 years ago spare time was usually considered as that part of a day when people took a nap or children played with each other. Nowadays technological tools are killing off leisure time, especially for younger workers and students, who are working longer hours, taking fewer and shorter vacations but still bringing their...
To: Ms Maire Liidlein From: Kerli Neljas Date: 16th December Subject: Recommendation report about Haapsalu Introduction Haapsalu is a small, friendly and romantic town is a real summer paradise and in summer a lot of holidaymakers visit this. They come for the warm seawater, curative mud, peacefulness. A lot of people visit the resort every summer, there are many different ways to spent time there, both for tourists and locals. Old Town of Haapsalu and museums People who are interested in culture and history can visit the Old Town and museums. For example the Estonian Railway Museum, the Episcopal Castle Museum, the Läänemaa Museum and others. I think that the city itself is one of the greatest historical places. Nobody can talk about the history of Haapsalu better than the city itself. And visiting museums is a good for acquiring new knowledge, but those people who do not love history, may get bored. And all museums are located relativ...
The Silence And Awe Of Arvo Pärt Some time ago, when I was randomly browsing the internet, I found an article about Arvo Pärt attending a festival in New York. The article seemed interesting but I didn't exactly read it, because Arvo Pärt has always been a composer I respect and know of, but I haven't directly listened to his music or been to any of his concerts so it didn't strike my interest, but on the bottom of the same page was a review where a journalist described his music very vividly and colorfully. It was also very inspiring and so I started to search for more. The silence and awe of Arvo Pärt is an article written by Tom Huizenga. There he talks about Pärt's childhood and how he found his current style. The most important was what inspires him and they also had an interview: In the article he says that Pärt is a major composer and he was little nervous to meet him. Although the 78-year-old musician us...
Online music magazines Making Music report: More playing, but progression is limited and class remains an issue Article by Alex Stevens This article taks about the playing of instruments among the children of UK. Based on the learner-teacher surveys made in 1993, 1996 and 1996 the playing of music instruments among children has increased by 35% since 1999 a new study has found, although issues of access, progression and class remain. More children aged 5-14 say that the 'know how to play' an instrument than in 1999. This suggests that programmes such as Wilder Opportunities have had an effect on the breadth of music-making in the UK. However the aricle suggests that there are still barriers like financial opportunities – the cost of instruments and lessons, then of course the lack of parental support and students not being interested. Of children that...

Advantages and disadvantages of fast food Why do people eat so much fast food? Nowadays a problem of fast food is widespread all over the world because the restaurants are almost in every country. What is so special about it? In this essay I am going to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of fast food. Firstly, the main advantage- it saves time and people don't have to spend their time cooking something for themselves. There are many people who live in a rush, so it is a good solution for them. Time is money! Secondly, fast food restaurants are cheaper than the others and fast food tastes really good too! The main disadvantage of fast food is the harmful effect it has on our health. It is a fact that it contains higher amounts of salt, fats, and additives than home-made food. People eat it too much and it can make them fat, so it is not a good idea to eat it every day. In my opinion fast food is more...

BABA IS YOU Game REVIEW Baba is You, developed by Hempuli Oy, is a sokoban-pushing puzzle game with a twist of rules manipulation. In this 2D game, the internal rules are presented as pushable blocks and you main goal is to push these blocks around and then combine these words to form new rules to solve puzzles. Unlike other puzzle games that require you to follow rules to complete levels, Baba is You encourages you to break rules and also gives you enough freedom to create new rules to level up. I know, the idea sounds really interesting and smart! The game doesn’t have too many instructions and it only has characters and corresponding objects on each stage. Players may be confused about how to play the game at first, but once you get deeper into the game and learn the game in practice, you will find the game has a lot of charm. We can see the little bunny Baba, three rocks, a yellow flag and four rules i...

Nowadays there are many museums in every country and almost in every city. Despite that people still do not visit museums as much as doing other activities. What might be the reasons of this? There are certain arguments in favour of visiting museums. The first important advantage of museums is that it educates and broadens your mind. For example, when you go to visit the exhibition, you learn more about the painter and the story behind the picture. Another advantage of museums is that it represents the country. As a result tourists become more aware of our country. On the other hand, there are people who are against of visiting museums. The main drawback of this is that museums cost a lot of money. As a result, many people can not afford to go to the museum. Another disadvantage of visiting museums is that they might be boring. Therefore it is a waste of money and time. All things considered, it seems to me that museums are not a was...

Stress People experience various forms of stress that is a natural part of people’s lives and it can motivate people to work harder. But if it becomes negative stress, it can affect people’s ability to be positive. To begin with, the main source of stress for young people is school and family. Daily homework takes a large part of our free time. Getting a bad grade causes a disappointment. Especially if the day before there was a lot of learning for the examination. My favourite outfit My name is Kerli. I am a 16-year-old schoolgirl. I am from Estonia. I would say I am usually helpful and kind. If anyone needs my help in anything, then I will always lend a hand. I like doing sports and I like to wear sporty clothes, because they are very comfortable. Also, like to wear feminine clothes. My favourite outfit is a leather jacket with blue jeans, a white blouse and black platforms. The leather jacket has white stripes down the sleeves. It is also quite worn-out by now because I have had it for some time now and I tend to wear it throughout the spring and autumn months. In fact it has gotten quite a few little tears where it has got caught on sharp objects. These clothes came from one of those big department stores and not a specialist leather shop. I am a big believer in wearing clothing that makes you feel great. The ideal item of clothing is the one that makes you both look an...

Fashion Fashion is having an increasing impact on people's lives. This contributes to a strong psychological impact of the media, primarily television and print publications. At the same time people are becoming more receptive to the dictates of fashion and believe that "Beauty requires sacrifice", people tend not to pay attention to health, for the sake of fashion . Nowadays, young people are trying all sorts of ways to follow fashion without thinking about its consequences. After all, there is no limit to fashion, this opens a huge scope for imagination of their fragile minds. In fact, fashion is not what it seems. Youth imitates their idols, copy the actions of others . The beauty of the person has been spoken about for many centuries . But with the beginning of a new century, the concept of beauty has changed in the other direction. Celebrities and their visual fashion statements affect the fashion industry and also the clothes of t...

SWEDISH FOOD 8 things to know about Sweden's food culture Koostas: Martin Aulik introduction It’s safe to say Sweden’s food culture is much more than iconic meatballs and chewy fish- shaped candy. Here are eight things you should know about food traditions essential to Sweden everyday dining. Lingonberry — Sweden’s favorite sauce Just like ketchup and mustard, lingonberry sauce is widely used to accompany a variety of dishes, from meatballs and pancakes to porridge and blood pudding. But despite its sweetness, it is rarely used on bread. Thanks to the Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten), which gives everyone the freedom to roam and enjoy nature, many Swedes grow up picking lingonberries in the forest, and using these tiny tart red fruits to make the jam-like preserve. Open sandwiches When you order a sandwic...
Smoking is on the increase among young people One of the largest issues today is underage smoking. The number of teens who smoke has dramatically risen over the past years. Smoking is one of the biggest causes of death and health diseases. Most of the youths start smoking to improve their self image with no attention of becoming addicted. The awareness of the harmful effects of smoking among young people has been rising but many of the young people ignore the dangers of smoking. One possible solution to reduce smoking is to educate the teens. Schools could have classes and seminars that increase the knowledge about the consequences of smoking. That way teens would be aware of the health problems such as many different cancers, heart diseases, asthma and strokes caused by cigarettes. Youths should also see the visuals how smoking ages skin and yellows teeth. Also a similar meetings for parents and students ...
Morgan Holiday Home Address: My address: 6 February 2014 Beachside Holiday Home Dear Sir or Madam, My family is planning to spend a month in England and we wish to rent a holiday house. I have found the advertisement in the Internet and I am going to ask some questions. First of all I wonder if pets are allowed in the house of family booking? We have a dog and that would be really very difficult to leave him at home alone for two weeks. What about extra fee car parking? How much would it cost? Is there a fridge in the kitchen? I am also interested in price. All the rent costs 252 €? Including bed linen & towels? Or we have to take along our toiletries? And finally: What about internet access? Do you have it? Looking forward to your answer, ...

What can be done to prevent petty crime? Nowadays more and more young people have started comit petty crime and people believe that thouse can be prevented. I support this view for a variety of reasons. To start with petty crime can be prevented with teenagers, the problematical ones in particular should participate to educational courses organised by the state where they can learn everything about these petty crimes an also how to avoid getting in the middle of them. It is very important to organise this meetings in the poor districts where teenagers are prone to ilicit activities such as pickpocketing or even burglery. Another method of reducing petty crime is that the people should learn how to protect their houses and their valuable goods. They should also learn how to protect themselves by thieves in order to not become victims of this criminal activity. It is very important to make people understand t...

Product Presentation Lasnamäe prisma, My company has a first class hairdryer called the BaByliss 5568U Salon Light 2100w AC that we believe you might be interested in purchasing to stock at your store. Our hairdryer is lightweight and has a 3 metre long power cord, which is 1.2 metres longer than the power cord of hairdryers such as the Remington Luxe AC. We believe this improves customer satisfaction with the hairdryer, as customer reviews show that they rate hairdryers with longer cords more highly than those with shorter cords. Our product also has a removeable filter, therefore the customer can clean it easily and efficiently, thus freeing up their time so that they can do other things. The long-life AC motor of the hairdryer gives the customer a high-power airflow for a faster drying time. It has three heat and two speed settings and also a cold shot button, which is superior to a similar hairdryer such as the TRESemmé 5542DU...

What is the best age to be? The question we all may ask ourselves time and time again. What is the best age to be? In my opinion there is not a best age and because of that is a question that will always be left unanswered. The life span approach emphasizes developmental change is throughout adulthood as well as childhood. As a 18 year old female I cannot really choose a specific age group that would be best in the life in every aspect, because I have not yet reached certain age periods of my life span development. All ages have great and bad things. When you are a child your freedom is limited and it mostly depends on your parents´ mood at that time. Some examples like where you have to be home at 9.00pm and no TV until you´ve cleaned your room. Also then you have problems, but only the ones generated at school. Childhood has many responsibilities, some we like, some we have to do and some we despise. Responsibilities some of us en...

Computerised world – a better or a worse place to live in ? Although computers are said to be one of the most successful inventions there are many people who do not totally agree with that saying. Computers are able to do everything that make our life easier, but why are there still so many different opinions about ones' usefulness? The positive side of having computers in our life is how much it actually changes our life and makes it easier. There are no problems, I mean literally no problems that computers could not do. Computers are used to find information, read news, study, and some even play computer games. But to be exact, computer is not only that small box that stays under our desks or the lap-tops that are well known today. Computers are everything automatic that surround us, for example nowadays there are no cars made without computerised parts. Even shopping would not be even close to like it is now if we would not have al...
If I Were a Minister of Education In the last five years we have witnessed several changes in the education system. Although some people find it useful and needed, others find it tragic. What has changed and what would I do to make school a better place? Firstly, there are several things that has been changed in the last few years, such as financing vocational schools. Students of vocational schools get paid for good grades and in some schools even for attending school. Even dorms are paid for students. That is true, we have a chance of getting a little scholarship in high schools, if we graduate with a medal, but it is times and times harder to achieve. In fact government has started to close high schools because they think that there are too many of them. It looks like our country wants only graduates with vocational education, which I find really sad. If I were a minister of education I would do every...
Virtual friendship Virtual world undoubtedly makes our lives easier and makes it easier for us to get more friends, but are those real friends? Although virtual world gives us a chance to make more friends, there is considerable disagreement over whether these new friends are real or not. The main argument for the virtual world being superficial is that nowadays people rather tend to stay in front of their screens and just talk than go out and have a good time eye to eye. Therefore people might not have any idea who they are talking to or what these people really think of them. What is more, people often spend more time with their virtual friends chatting rather than dedicating time to the people that truly care about them. A final key argument relates to people turning lasier, with internet people will go less outside to make real friends that they can learn to know and can examine their behaviou...
