Millennium Bridge

M i l l e n n i u m B r i d ge Liivika Viitak 8.C klass FACTS A bridge made of steel for pedestrians crossing the River Thames. It was to be a part of the city's millennium celebration. During the first two days after opening the bridge, thousands who had crossed the bridge noticed that the bridge seemed to wobble. Because of that the bridge was closed for modifications 3 days after opening. It was reopened in February 2002. Construction of the bridge began in late 1998 and was completed in June 2000, about 2 months behind schedule. Total cost was 30 million euros. It can carry up to 5,000 people at the same time. DESIGN The design was a subject of a competition organized in 1996. The winning entry was an innovative effort from Arup, Foster and Partners and Sir Anthony Caro. It is 325 metres long and 4 metres wide. Made of aluminium.

recommendations for possible improvements. The survey has been conducted among our class students. Canteen Firstly, the canteen`s food prices are too low and service is very slow. It would be a good idea to mark down the price of food and to put meals on the table before lunch break. As result service would be faster and more students could afford eating school lunch . Library Furthermore, the majority of the students (56%) are not agreed with library opening hours and range of books. By buying more books and changing library opening hours, we could solve the problem. Teachers` teaching styles Last, the minority of our class students (22%) do not like the teachers` teaching styles. Teachers should explain more clearly what they exactly want from students. In this way all the students would accept the teachers` teaching styles. Conclusion To sum up, I feel that the above improvements would make things even better. If these

Comparison of diesel and petrol engine

Märt Leppik AT13 17.09.09 Comparison of diesel and petrol engine Similarities Both engines have a similar combustion cycle. The cycle is four strokes long. The strokes are the intake stroke, the compression stroke, the combustion stroke, and the exhaust stroke. During the intake stroke, the piston moves down in time with the opening of the intake valve. This allows the cylinder to become full of an air and gas mixture. This mixture is compressed during the compression stroke, which increases the compression pressure at which the gas mixture will be ignited, or self-ignited. The combustion stroke is the stroke following the explosion of the mixture, and this stroke is what powers the car. It is this stroke that powers the crankshaft, and allows for the car to move. The final stroke is the exhaust stroke

Old Mr. Dashwood

Eager to distance herself from Fanny's rudeness and insensitivity, Mrs. Dashwood immediately accepts the invitation and sends three servants ahead to Barton to prepare the house for their arrival. She informs John and Fanny of their imminent departure and encourages Edward Ferrars to come visit them at Barton. Following Marianne's tearful goodbye to their home at Norland, the family sets out for Barton Cottage. Commentary The opening pages of Sense and Sensibility are concerned with the laws of inheritance and succession that govern the fate of the Dashwood family property. According to the laws of male primogeniture effective in the mid-nineteenth century, estates went to the closest male descendant of the original owner. Since Old Mr. Dashwood has no sons, his estate is bequeathed to his nephew, Henry Dashwood. Henry, in turn, leaves the estate to his eldest son, John. However, as Austen notes, Henry

Book opinion To Kill A Mockingbird

Book opinion I read the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” written by Harper Lee, published in 1960. The books events take place in 1880’s Alabama. I really liked the book and I understand why it’s important for people- especially young people like high-schoolers to read this book. The book gives good insight on why we still have problems with racism around us and how much worse it was back in the 19th and 20th century. It has a good mixture of educational and historical topics and humour. Although many things are told the reader through metaphors, the meaning of the metaphor is often explained, as the book is told through a kid’s point of view. I would recommend this book to high schoolers, as it explains important topics that are still an issue to this day and it may be an eye- opening book to some people.

Famous castles of Scotland

The Governor of Edinburgh Castle is Major General David McDowall, GOC of the British Army's 2nd Division. The Governor of the Castle has always been the head of the Army in Scotland. Direct administration of the castle by the War Office only came to an end in 1923 when the army formally moved to the city's new Redford Barracks. Nevertheless, the Castle continues to have a strong connection with the Army. Sentries still stand watch at the castle gatehouse after opening hours, with responsibility for guarding the Honours of Scotland. Fyvie Castle in the village of Fyvie, is a castle near Turriff in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The earliest parts of Fyvie Castle date from the 13th century - some sources claim it was built in 1211 by William the Lion. Fyvie was the site of an open-air court held by Robert the Bruce, and Charles I lived there as a child. Following the Battle of Otterburn in 1390, it

Should rich people welcome immigration.

Talented people also have a opportunity to use their talent in developed countries the way they can not do in their home country. Secondly, the negative side is that developing countries can not develope if talented and wealthy people leave their homes. These people should realise that they are the ones, who should help their country in developing education, economy and solving problem of over population. Thirdly, we can say that instead of opening our doors to the whole world, we can assist poorer countries by sending them supplies like first aid, condoms, pure water, food and clothes. In conclusion, we can say that richer countries should not welcome immigration in order to help poorer countries to develope faster and they should send supplies to make their life better they would not desire to leave their homes.

Monument to the Conquerors of Space!

Built in 1964 just at the entrance to the All-Russias evhibition, teh VDNKh, this is an extraordinary monument housing a full museum in the mound beneath. It is all clad in shiny stainless steel. In March 1958, a few months after the launch of Sputnik 1, a competition was announced for the best design of an obelisk celebrating the dawn of the Space Age. Out of some 350 proposals, the design by sculptor A.P. Faidysh-Krandievsky and architects A.N. Kolchin and M.O. Barshch was chosen. The grand opening of the monument took place on October 4, 1964, on the day of the 7th anniversary of the Sputnik 1 launch. Since the 1960s, this part of Moscow in general has had a high concentration of space- themed sights and names: besides the monument and the museum under it, the grand "Cosmos" pavilion in the Exhibition Centre displayed many artifacts of the Soviet space program. Many streets in the area have been named after the precursors of the space

The Winter Games are held in January or February. A sport must be widely practiced in at least 25 countries on three continents to be considered for the Winter Games. For many years Finland, Norway and Sweden had the best athletes in the Winter Games. No Games were held during the World War I and II. Colourful ceremonies combine with athletic competition to create the special feeling of excitement that surrounds the Olympics. The opening ceremony is particularly impressive. The athletes of Greece march into the stadium first in honor of the original Olympics held in ancient Greece. The other athletes follow in alphabetical order. The athletes of the host country enter last. The head of state of the host country declares the Games opened. The Olympic flag is raised, as the Olympic anthem is played. example it is light and manageable, definitely better than her old pushchairs. Its good points are also that it is easy to steer, it has an attractive design and it fits in the boot of the car. A minority of people found mistakes from "Bambo". One complaint for example was that the wheel locking mechanism is too small to operate by foot. Recommendations. It is recommended that the wheel locking mechanism should be larger so it could be operated by foot and the opening hinge should be made easier to open/close. In the words of Mr and Mrs Osmonth it is a bit stiff to open and close. It is also advisable to increase the size of the wheels, because they appear to be too small and getting stuck in little holes. If you sum up the good and the bad points then there are certainly more good than bad. So on balance the new "Bambo" pushchair is really good considering the opinion of parents and kids like to go out in it.

Suggested improvements to shop

Suggested improvements to shop

Advertising To begin with, it would be a good idea to think about buying advertising space on local television stations or radio stations. Moreover, we should distribute flyers around our local community, newspaper inserts or on community bulletin boards. In this way the public knows that our shop exists and we will have larger circle of customers. Online Store Secondly, I believe we can also expand our shop by opening up an online store. Albeit a large number of consumers like to shop locally, there is still many, who also prefer shopping online, especially when they are looking for something in particular or something that is hard to find. As a result, having an online store, will increase shop chances of making profit. Versatile Display Finally, last suggestion would be to try to save as much space as we can by using multiuse space

My ideal school I've often wondered, what my ideal school would be like, but I haven't quite figured it out yet. I'm almost sure, that my ideal school would be near the forest. Students could go there and sit on benches to gather their energy. In the schoolyard, there would be big maple and oak trees and a lovely pond- what a nice place for a picnic on your break time! The lessons would take place in an old manor, where doors opening and closing by themselves wouldn't be anything unique. The classes would be small, but cosy and warm. We'd have a huge library with hundreds of old books. There would be a huge section only for romantic novels and books about love stories. The lessons would start at 9am. In my ideal school I'd have to study the average level of general subjects. There would also be certain amount of specialty studies, which I could be able to choose for myself.

It is formed partly by statue law, partly by common law and partly by conventions. Fundamental law doesn´t exist in the United Kingdom. They meet together only on occasions of ceremonial significance, such as the state opening of Parliament. The Monarch's principle function is to carry out certain ceremonial duties. The Queen is regarded as national symbol and also as a symbol of the unity of the Commonwealth. The British monarch must be Protestant. The House of Commons consists of 650 elected members, called Members of Parliament. Its main purpose is to make laws by passing Acts of Parliament, as well as to discuss current political issues. getting stuck in little holes. There were also profoundly positive comments, like Mrs Roberta Long's from Gloucester which said that this is fantastic so light and manageable. It was found that the pushchair is light, easy to steer, comfortable for a baby, small when folded and has attractive design and colours. Conclusion "Bocia" might consider increasing the size of wheels and making their locking mechanism larger as it is too small to operate by foot. It is also advisable to make the opening hinge easier to open and close. The differences between the modern and ancient Olympic Games can be clearly seen. For instance, in ancient times only men were allowed to watch and participate but that has changed now. Also, athletes don't have to perform nude, although the original idea of the games was to honour the human body. Each Olympic Games has an opening ceremony during which the sports stadium is filled with music, singing, dancing and fireworks. A closing ceremony in the same spirit takes place on the last day of the Games. The opening and closing ceremonies are an invitation to discover the culture of the country hosting the Games. organized by The Estonian Wildlife Protection Society in 1967-1968 where the ornamental Blue Cornflower was the favourite because of its popularity and decorative appearance, because of this Blue Cornflower was selected as the National Flower of Estonia. National bird The barn swallow, the national bird, is a characteristic guest of Estonian homes. Its call can be heard from practically every eave or barn rafter in the country. If the bird finds a suitable opening, under the ridge of a roof or a broken window, it will build its cup-shaped nest; it will even build it inside a house. The choice of the barn swallow as a national bird was mainly the result of a campaign conducted by ornithologists at the beginning of the sixties. The Barn Swallow has been the national bird of Estonia since 23 June 1960. National stone Estonian national stone is the country's valuable grey limestone.

There were several aspects that I was sincerely dissatisfied with, and I hope that in the nearest future you will take steps to eliminate these faults. To begin with, I arrived at your museum at exactly 11.12, yet the ticket office was still closed even though according to the advertisement every door should have been opened by 11 o'clock. However, when I started to look for another gate or entrance, there were none at all

Irish Potato Famine

Irish Potato Famine

England were glad to receive paying passengers. Almost every ship had a third of their passenger's die at sea or upon their arrival. On the shores of Quebec eyewitnesses saw hundreds literally flung on the beach, left in the mud, dying. Yet, it was only the potato crop that failed wheat, oats, pork, mutton etc. were excellent, but all was shipped to Europe to ease the starvation there. The British government refused to help with money or by opening soup-kitchens they were afraid that young rebels would buy guns and that the Irish would get used with free food and never work again. The `Great Hunger' ended in 1851-52, when the amount of eatable crop increased. Approximately 1.5 million died of starvation and/or diseases, and 2 million emigrated. The population of Ireland continued to fall for 70 years, then it stopped at 4 million a half, compared to 8 million people counted in 1845.

Respect For Other People

It means that, we need to find the best possible solution. According to cultural background it can mean different things: mostly it has a positive meaning- as consent, an agreement where both parties win something; in the USA it may rather have negative connotations as both parties lose something. Often young people are using word Respect. Saying this word, it means they acknowledge someone with value. Sometimes respect can be taken wrong, like opening a door for a lady she might think that I as a man do not respect her independency or helping elder people- they might think that we take them as ineffective and powerless. I think that respect for other people start with respecting yourself and your family. Be as good with other people as you would like them to be with you!

In 1950, when she was 12, Mama Lu died and her real mother took her to the Fillmore District, San Francisco. James began listening to doo-wop and was inspired to form a girl group, called the Creolettes. After that, she met musician Johnny Otis. Nonetheless, Otis took the group under his wing, helping them sign to Modern Records and changing their name from The Creolettes to the Peaches. He also gave the singer her stage name Etta James. The success gave the group an opening spot on Little Richard’s national tour. Etta decided to leave the group. After leaving The Peaches she had another RnB hit. Her debut album At Last was released in late 1960. In early 1961 James released what was to become her signature song „At Last“. Though the song was not as successful as expected, it has become the most remembered song. In 1963 she had another major hit with „Pushover“. After a couple years scoring
