Canada's three cities

Cities of Canada Ottawa is the capital of Canada and a municipality within the Province of Ontario. Located in the Ottawa Valley in the eastern portion of Southern Ontario, the city lies on the southern banks of the Ottawa River, a major waterway forming the local boundary between the Provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Connected by several bridges to its Quebec neighbour, the City of Gatineau on the northern shores of the Ottawa River, the two cities had a combined 2009 population of 1,220,674, making it the country's fourth largest metropolitan area. Although a recent StatsCan estimate in February 2010 surmises that the Ottawa metropolitan area has recently been surpassed by the Calgary metropolitan area as the Canada's fourth largest metropolitan area

terrain and contains thousands of lakes. These lakes are the sources of rivers that break into great rapids and waterfalls used for hydroelectric production, providing power for pulp and paper mills, and a variety of other industries. Relatively few people live in the Canadian Shield because of its poor soil and cold climate. The Canadian Shield has much of Canada's mineral wealth, producing most of the country's iron ore. Central Canada, which includes Ontario and Quebec, is not really the geographic centre of Canada. The region gets its name because, historically, it has been the centre of political and economic power in the country. Canada's capital city is Ottawa, Ontario. Toronto and Montreal are the two largest cities in Canada. Central Canada is also the most heavily populated and industrialized area of Canada, particularly in the south around the Great Lakes and the St Lawrence River.

Upper Canada became part of Quebec in 1791. Upper Canada was the English-speaking colony and Lower Canada was the French-speaking colony. They were reunited in 1841, called Canada West and Canada East and the capital of them was Montreal. They become provinces of Ontario and Quebec in 1867. Uniting all the Canadian provinces soon became a necessity. There were five reasons why it was good to unite the provinces: they wanted to be protected from the USA, they wanted to defend themselves against the Fenians, trading would be much easier, they wanted to build a railway from east to west and Britain didn't want to support Canadian provinces anymore likewise Canadian provinces wanted to break away from Britain. 1st July 1867 the Dominion

Niagara juga asub Põhja-Ameerikas Niagara jõel, Erie ja Ontario järve vahepeal. Osa joast asub Kanada ja osa USA territooriumil. See on üks maailma veerohkeim ja tuntuim juga. Juga jaguneb kolmeks: Ameerika juga, Kanada ehk Hoburaua juga ja Pruudiloorijuga. Neid eraldavad saared. Kitsesaar eraldab teda USA-poolsest Ameerika joast, Luna saar eraldab Ameerika joast omakorda pisikese Pruudiloori joa. Nende kolme ühisnimetus Niagara tähendab kohalikus indiaani keeles vetemüha. Report Of Canada

In 1996, the top non-fuel minerals were gold with production of US$2.05 billion, copper US$1.47 billion, nickel US$1.45 billion, and zinc US$1.25 billion. There was also significant production of lead and iron. There are about 50 major gold mines in Canada and the country leads the world in technologies which extract gold from rock and soil. The nation is the world's largest producer of zinc and the fifth largest producer of lead. Among the provinces, Ontario is the top producer of non-fuel mineral resources, followed by Quebec, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland. Each year Canadian companies spend over US$600 million to find or develop new mines and fuel supplies. However, environmental concerns and increased regulation have led many Canadian mining companies to shift exploration elsewhere. Latin America is becoming a favorite choice for Canadian mining companies.

A lot of the Prairie Provinces' area is covered with farms producing wheat and other grains. The region is rich in oil and natural gas. In fact, Canada is the second largest oil reserve holder in the world, after Saudi Arabia. Central Canada which includes Ontario and Quebec is not the geographical centre of Canada. It is called that because it has historically been the political and economic centre of the country. Central Canada is the most heavily populated and industrialised area. In there lie the Great Lakes the largest body of fresh water in the world. Some of the first settlements in Canada were, naturally, built around those areas. Stretching across the north is the Artic region. On the east there is another geographical unit called the Applachian Region after the range of mountains which run through the New England states north into Canada. Moving west, we come to the largest region of all, the Canadian Shield. This extends like a huge semi-circular ring around Hudson Bay. It is rugged, stony and with thin soil. Southeast of the Shield is the Valley of the St. Lawrence River which embraces the parts of Quebec and Ontario that lie along that river and Lakes Ontario and Eire. West of the Shield, we find two vertical bands of land that run from the Arctic southward into the US. This is called the Interior Plains Region. Next, the most westerly area is nearly all mountain, running from north to south along the Pacific coast. This is called the Cordilleran Region after the system of mountains which dominates the entire west coast of North America. The St. Lawrence river and the

joined the Canadian Confederation in 1949. Three decades later, in 1980, the province re-adopted the song as an official provincial anthem. Newfoundland and Labrador is the only province in Canada to officially adopt a provincial anthem. Newfoundland and Labrador is a province of Canada on the country's Atlantic coast in northeastern North America. A Place to Stand, A Place to Grow (Ontari-ari-ari-o!) was an unofficial anthem of the Canadian province of Ontario. The song was written as the signature tune for a movie of the same name that was featured at the Expo 67 Ontario pavilion. "Something to Sing About" is a patriotic song written by folk singer Oscar Brand that sings the praises of the many different regions of Canada. There was once a movement for it to replace O Canada as the Canadian national anthem. The Bold Canadian was a patriotic song for Canadians that originated during the War of 1812

Geography: Covering most of the northern part of the North American continent and with an area larger than that of the United States, Canada has an extremely varied topography. In the east, the mountainous maritime provinces have an irregular coastline on the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic. The St. Lawrence plain, covering most of southern Quebec and Ontario, and the interior continental plain, covering southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan and most of Alberta, are the principal cultivable areas. They are separated by a forested plateau rising from Lakes Superior and Huron. Westward toward the Pacific, most of British Columbia, the Yukon, and part of western Alberta are covered by parallel mountain ranges, including the Rockies. Reis läbi Ameerika.

Reis läbi Ameerika Alustades matka Ameerika Ühendriikide kirdetipust, see tähendab Atlandi ookeani äärest Maine osariigist ja minnes edasi edela suunas, tuleb vastu Hudsoni jõgi (507 km) New Yorgi osariigis. Kohe peale seda on Niagara juga (mille alla kuulub tegelikult kolm juga, nende kõrgus on enamvähem sarnane (53-57 m), kokku voolab üle jugade ligi 3000 m3 sekundis).

Vabalt langeb vesi umbes pool joa kogukõrgusest. Geoloogiline ehitus ja ajalugu Joa astang on osa Niagara astangust (Niagara Escarpment), klindinõlvast, mis ulatub Ontario järvest idas Michigani järve läänekaldale.Astangu pealmise kõvema kihi moodustavad Kesk-Siluri Lockporti dolomiidid, mille all asuvad pehmemad Alam-Siluri kiltkivid. Jääaja (Wisconsini jäätumise) lõppedes 10 000 aastat tagasi asus juga Niagara astangu joonel Ontario järve lõunakalda lähedal. Järgnevate aastatuhandete jooksul on vesi astangut 11 km lõuna poole uuristanud keskmise kiirusega 12 m aastas. Kitsesaareni, kus eraldusid

Inglise parlamendi otsusega ühendati Alam- ja Ülem-Kanada 1841 taas üheks provintsiks, seega kärbiti Kanada prantslaste õigusi. 19. sajandi keskpaiku tehti liberaalseid reforme, kaotati senjöörisüsteem, kehtestati maaostuseadus. Algas tööstuspööre. 1. VII 1867 sai Kanada dominiooni õigused. Moodustati konföderatsioon, kuhu kuulusid Ontario, Quebeci, New Brunswicki ja Nova Scotia provintsid.

Niagara

30. märtsil 1848. aastal ummistasid tugevad vastuvoolu puhuvad tuuled jõe jääpankadega ning vesi ei pääsenud allavoolu. Normaalne olukord taastus juba järgneval päeval. 4 Niagara juga Vaid pisut üle 50 km pikkusest Niagara jõest ei teaks maailm midagi, kui seal ei asuks üks loodusimesid Niagara juga. Iga minuti jooksul tormab ligikaudu 170 miljonit liitrit vett üle 50 meetri kõrguse Niagara kaljuserva Erie järvest Ontario järve suunas. Neid kahte järve ühendab eelnevalt nimetatud Niagara jõgi. Ameerika pärismaalased kutsusid seda maailma kuulsamaimat juga ,,mürisevaks veeks", sest nimi Niagara pärineb tegelikult irokeesi keelest ja tähendab mürisevat või mühisevat vett. Juga asub USA ja Kanada piiril ning tegelikult on siin tegemist juba viimased 500 aastat kahe kosega: kõrgem, kuid kitsam ,,American Falls" ning ,,Horseshoe Falls" Kanadas

Three famous canadians

The famous Canadians Jason Day (born May 19, 1981) is a Canadian mixed martial arts fighter born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and has fought for several MMA associations, including the Ultimate Fighting Championship, TKO Major League MMA, Rumble in the Cage, King of the Cage, and many others. He is also the former TKO Middleweight champion. He is one of the few practitioners of the Eddie Bravo "Rubber Guard" system in mixed martial arts, in which a fighter can avoid taking heavy damage when fighting from his back, by using his legs and arms to hold his opponent very close to him in order to stifle his attacks. This was demonstrated best in his fight against Alan Belcher in UFC 83. Day fought his second fight in the UFC on June 7, 2008 at UFC 85 in London. His opponent was Michael Bisping who defeated Day in the first round. Also on June 6, 2009 he showed another example of his training with Eddie Bravo when h...

Canada

Canada's total land area includes thousands of adjacent islands, notably Newfoundland in the east and those of the Arctic Archipelago in the north. In longitude Canada extends from approximately 52° to 141° W, a distance that spans six time zones. In latitude it extends from approximately 42° to 83° N. With its vast Arctic and subarctic territories, Canada is often considered a country only of the far north; however, the peninsula of southern Ontario juts deeply south into the heartland of the United States, and its southernmost point, Middle Island in Lake Erie, is at the same latitude as northern California. The country also includes several major islands, including Baffin, Ellesmere, Victoria, Newfoundland, and Melville, and many small ones. Its border with the U.S., the longest border in the world not patrolled by military forces, extends 8,890 km. 3. Mountains, lowlands
