The rolling bun

Russian national tale "The rolling bun" Once there lived an old man and old woman. The old man said, "Old woman, bake me a rolling bun." "What can I make it from? I have no flour." "Eh, eh, old woman! Scrape the cupboard, sweep the flour bin, and you will find enough flour." The old woman picked up a duster, scraped the cupboard, swept the flour bin and gathered about two handfuls of flour. She mixed the dough with sour cream, fried it in butter, and put the rolling bun on the window sill to cool. The rolling bun lay and lay there. Suddenly it rolled off the window sill to the bench, from the bench to the floor, from the floor to the door. Then it rolled over the threshold to the entrance hall, from the entrance hall to the porch, from the porch to the courtyard, from the courtyard through the gate and on and on. The rolling bun rolled...

Estonian national holidays

Among Estonian fairy tales and literature there is the tale of two lovers, Koit and Hämarik. The tradition before the Soviet occupation, which has now been restored, was for a fire to be lit by the Estonian President on the morning of Victory Day. From this fire, the flame of independence was carried across the country to light the many bonfires. St John's Day became an unofficial holiday, with many work places closing down. It once again became an official national holiday in 1992. On Jaaniõhtu, Estonians all around the country will gather with their families, or at larger events to celebrate this important day with singing and dancing, as Estonians have done for centuries.

Sauerkraut Sauerkraut is finely shredded cabbage that has been fermented by various lactic acid bacteria, including Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus. It has a long shelf-life and a distinctive sour flavor, both of which result from the lactic acid that forms when the bacteria ferment the sugars in the cabbage. It is therefore not to be confused with coleslaw, which receives its acidic taste from vinegar. People of Estonia like sauerkraut very much. They definitely a great dish for Christmas, because it`s really good to eat it with potatoes or something like that. Brazil's national drinks

Brazil's national drinks Caipirinha Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail, made with cachaça, sugar and lime. Cachaça is Brazil's most common distilled alcoholic beverage. While both rum and cachaça are made from sugarcane-derived products, most rum is made from molasses. Specifically with cachaça, the alcohol results from the fermentation of sugarcane juice that is afterwards distilled. The caipirinha is a national cocktail of Brazil, and is enjoyed in restaurants, bars, and many households throughout the country. Once almost unknown outside Brazil, the drink has become more popular and more widely available in recent years, in large part due to the rising availability of first-rate brands of cachaça outside Brazil. The International Bartenders Association has designated it as one of their Official Cocktails. Caipirinha's are easy to make

National Symbols of New Zealand

Description The New Zealand flag is the symbol of the realm government and people of New Zealand. Its royal blue background is reminiscent of the blue sea and clear sky surrounding NZ. The stars of the Southern Cross emphasise the country's location in the South Pacific Ocean. The New Zealand Flag features, on a royal blue background, a Union Jack in the first quarter and four five-pointed red stars of the Southern Cross on the other part of the flag. The New Zealand Flag is the national symbol of this country and accordingly it should be honoured and treated with respect. The New Zealand Flag may be flown on any day of the year, usually during normal working hours, and in a variety of places. The New Zealand Flag should never be flown in a bad and unrespectful condition. Estonian National Emblems and Symbols There are several important emblems and symbols of Estonia of which many are also known for the rest of the world. Estonian national emblems are the blue- black-and-white national flag, the national anthem and the coat of arms. The symbols are national flower (the cornflower), national bird (the barn swallow) and national stone (limestone). Estonian flag was originally the flag of the Estonian Students' Society which was consecrated in 1884. During Soviet rule, the flag was prohibited and it was first used again in Tartu in 1988. The national anthem is entitled as "My Native Land, My Pride and Joy". The melody was composed in the centre of the 19 th century by Friedrich Pacius and the Estonian lyrics were written by Johann Voldemar Jannsen. It was adopted as the official national anthem in 1920.

wilderness. One spring morning in 1621, an Indian came into the little village of Plymouth and introduced himself in friendly way. The Indians taught the pilgrims how to hunt, fish, and grow food. Because of this help from Indians, the pilgrims had a good harvest that year. Governor William Bradford invited the Indians to a feast. It lasted three days. They ate, danced, sang, ran races, whistled. This was called thanksgiving day. On October 3, 1863 Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national thanksgiving. Many of the traditions of the modern American thanksgiving come from that first thanksgiving celebration more than 300 years ago. People eat squash, corn, turkey, Indian pudding and pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving is a four-day holiday. Schools are closed on thanksgiving, and grownups don't work.
