How much do you know about biology?
What is biology? Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth , origin, evolution , distribution, and taxonomy.[1] Biology is a vast subject containing many subdivisions, topics, and disciplines.
Although biology in its modern form is a relatively recent development , sciences related to and included within it have been studied since ancient times . Natural philosophy was studied as early as the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indian subcontinent, and China .
Much of modern biology can be encompassed within five unifying principles: cell theory, evolution, genetics, homeostasis, and energy. Cell theory states that the cell is the fundamental unit of life, and that all living things are composed of one or more cells or the secreted products of those cells. Evolution is now used to explain the great variations of life found on Earth. Genes are the primary units of inheritance in all organisms. A gene is a unit of heredity and corresponds to a region of DNA that influences the form or function of an organism in specific ways . Homeostasis is the ability of an open system to regulate its internal environment to maintain stable conditions by means of multiple dynamic equilibrium adjustments controlled by interrelated regulation mechanisms. Energy is a quantity that is often understood as the ability to perform work .

Future of biology rests in harnessing data avalanche . Like most sciences, biology is inundated with data. However , a group of researchers warns in a Nature feature that the avalanche of biological information is at the point where the discipline may be unable to reach its full potential without improvements for curating data into on-line databases.

Biology has changed a lot, but the basics remain the same. And, also like all the sciences are evolving and moving forward, biology is also moving in direction of innovation.

Agency in Iran. Along with these public space programs, many companies produce technical tools and components such as spaceships and satellites. Some known companies involved in space programs include Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, EADS, and Boeing. These companies are also involved in other areas of aerospace such as the construction of aircraft. Many countries have air transport companies, such as Air France and Air India. Biotechnology-Biotechnology is technology based on biology, especially when used in agriculture, food science, and medicine. United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity defines biotechnology as:[1] Any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use. Biotechnology is often used to refer to genetic engineering technology of the 21st century, however the term encompasses a wider range and history of procedures for modifying biological

in winning general acceptance. The collected evidence of The Origin of Species was sufficient to persuade most biologists that this was the key that they had been looking for. Quite a few scientists held out, notably Louis Agassiz, but the younger generation of students coming into the field seem almost without exception to agree to the adopted theory. Within a few decades, evolution through natural selection was a fundamental paradigm of biological thought. The development of biology through the century since that time has not essentially altered the situation. Alot of changes have been introduced, or at least debated. Once genetics was more fully understood, it was realized that major steps in specification might just owe more to favourable mutations than to the regular process of variation. But the introduction of mutation did not change the principle of natural selection. Natural selection, as Darwin saw it, simply can not be ignored

NEUROBIOLOGY AUXILLARY GLOSSARY ACETYLCHOLINE – A neurotransmitter in both the brain and peripheral nervous system* (PNS). In the brain it helps regulate memory, whilst it controls the actions of skeletal and smooth muscle within the PNS. ACTION POTENTIAL – An electrical phenomenon which occurs when a neurone is activated and temporarily reverses the electrical state of its interior membrane from negative to positive. An electrical charge travels along the axon to the neurone’s ending (terminal) where it triggers the release of a neurotransmitter* and then disappears. ADRENALINE (U.S. - Epinephrine) – A hormone released by the adrenal medulla* and a neurotransmitter acting at the level of the autonomic nervous system and the brain. ADRENAL CORTEX – The outer layer of the adrenal, a small endocrine gland located near the kidney. It produces and secretes several hormones* (corticosteroids) e.g. cortisol. I

Education

Education Education is so multifaceted that it is difficult for me to know where to begin discussing it, or how to prioritize the many factors. Relaying my own experience is easy: I had a standard classroom approach, supplemented by inordinate reading. In only the briefest and least memorable instances did I receive any individual tutoring. Education is commonly thought of as the job of schools. Adults cry "educate our children!" Everyone has opinions about the best way to do the job. It is of urgent importance, and all the numerous factors are much studied, debated, and new (or old) ideas continually tested or retested. Some people say "it's as simple as . . . " and then name their pet peeve or passion. My view is not of an education specialist, but of one who loves sharing what I learn, and owes much to educators. Since I don't have an educational theory neatly worked-out, nor an outline
