Wonders of the modern world

Essay Wonders of the modern world Wonders are different. I am sure that today's world wonders are not the same that they were years ago. World has gone on and so the same way is with wonders. In my opinion, the most needed wonder is Internet. It has developed quite quickly. Most of young people can not live without it. Youth can communicate each other and they can also find some necessary information. There are also some elderly people who need the Internet. Usually they use it to do work, but older people also use it to communicate with other people like friends or colleague. Some elderly people may use the Internet even more than some youth. I guess that next wonder can be mobile phone. It is also very needed thing. People can call wherever they are. Mobile phone does not have any cables. There are very different phones and each people can choose mobile what likes him. Phone is

Dear social worker

Dear social worker I am writing because of my concern about my elderly neighbor. She is a really friendly 80-year old lady but she is not able to do everyday jobs to live normal life. I have helped her to cope with everyday life but next year I will leave to other city to attend university and I think she is not able to continue without any help. Usually after school I go and visit her to ask if she needs something from shop or pharmacy. She also has problems using her mobile phone to call her friends or healthcare persons, which I also has helped her to do

EUTHANASIA

The main opposition comes from religious groups, medical associations whose members see practising euthanasia as an inproper exctension of their role as carers. Throughout centuries the doctors' purpose in life has been to cure suffering, how can they be expected to do otherwise, even if it's done for a good cause. The issue has been misinterpreted by some people. They seem to be of the opinion that practicing euthanasia would turn nursing homes into places of fear and elderly people in residencial home are afraid that they will be a candidate. For whatever motive it may be done, all civilisations, all religions have regarded this as morally wrong.

distinctive. Having about four generations living together is something very important, but in these days we tend to forget that. Every generation has something to teach the others, all of them have different experiences, conceptions and ways they like to solve problems. For example the ways people acted fifty years ago may not fit into today's world, but then there are the grandchildren's generation that can show and teach elderly how it is acceptable to do something. And then there are older generations that can remind youngers why it is important to appreciate family relations, remember your relatives and what are real values in life, because in this fast-changing world it is sometimes quite hard to distinguish important from unimportant. Last year was the year of active ageing and solidarity between generations. I think it was very nice initiative. It reminded so many important things to people

A Movie Review of "Moliere" In 2007, a wonderful surprise "Moliere", enchanted the romantics and critics all over Europe. An historical love story, surrounded by affairs and intrigues, now retold in new colours, gained popularity amongst young and elderly, connecting those who prefer theatre, good humour and a little bit of sadness. It can be said that the play of the actors was one of the most successful challenges performed in front of the camera. They lived in the seventeenth century, talking and feeling everything as naturally as if they had been born around that time. The humour mostly gentle, sometimes cruel, described and criticised perfectly every aspect of

hero have changed. Centuries ago a hero was reckoned to be someone with super human courage, abnormal powers or with abilities to use magic items. A hero used to be somebody who fought magical creatures of evil and conniving kings or lords. A past hero usually saved the world from being ruled by evil forces (Eragon) or a clan from being destroyed (Beowulf killed Grendel and his mother to help the village). A hero like that was respected by the elderly people and always glorified by his family (in case they were still alive at the end of the story). It used to take a long journey and a fascinating victory to be recognized as a hero but nowadays it has become much easier. We give the title "hero" away much faster and there is actually no surprise to that- there aren't really any monsters left to fight or people to fight them. For example we share the title every evening on TV news (TV3 Eestimaa uhkus) to people who have done a good act

Some of the exhibits you see from contemporary artists are no more than tins of baked beans and piles of bricks. That's highly unlikely. Everybody understands that films and plays contain drama and that the purpose of the news is to report on what's wrong. 6.4 Disagreeing diplomatically (through doubt) The elderly are often confused by modern telephones and automatic switchboards. download. Our father and mothers recall times when one had to stand in queues to get the desired books. An e-book can be offered indefinitely, without ever going "out of print". The collection of e-books takes certainly significantly less room than the same collection of conventional books. An e-reader can potentially contain thousands of e-books, limited only by its memory capacity. Depending on the device e-book may be readable in low light or even in total darkness. For elderly readers or for people with visual problems e-books have a remarkable advantage as the fonts can be enlarged, it I seven possible to use Text-to speech software to read the text. One great thing is the possibility to search for key terms. While an e-book reader costs much more than one book, the electronic texts are generally cheaper. Moreover, a great share of books are available free of charge. For example, all fiction from before the year 1900 is in the public domain.

The problem is particularly acute elderly (old people). Their pensions are small, wherefore they are often forced to work. When people say about government, they responds terms like "corruption" and "incompetence". It is sad to state the fact that the percentage of dissatisfied respondents is higher than the percentage of people who satisfied of their life. The second group of people are more positive. So in 1834 a law was passed in the Parliament that resulted in building workhouses to accommodate and give jobs to people who couldn't support themselves financially. Also in the workhouses were orphaned (children without parents) and abandoned children, the physically and mentally sick, the disabled, the elderly and unmarried mothers. The idea of workhouses was kind of good, but in reality, there were several problems with them. The government, terrified of encouraging 'idlers' (lazy people), made sure that people feared the workhouse and would do anything to keep out of it. The problems included poor education system for children(teachers uninspired and low paid, children weren't taught reading and writing), physically demanding jobs(breaking rocks and

Diana, Walesi printsess (The Princess of Wales)

She was one of the first very high profile people to be pictured touching those afflicted with AIDS. This had a significant impact in changing people's opinions and attitudes to the disease. She was very at ease in meeting people from any background and even if they were ill or in hospices. The patients would react very favorably to her meetings. In addition, the Princess was a member of charities and organizations working with the homeless, youth, drug addicts and the elderly. From 1989, she was President of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. DIVORCE In the mid 1980s her marriage fell apart. Both Charles and Diana spoke to the press through friends, accusing each other of blame for the break-up. Charles turned again to his former girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles. Diana and Charles were separated on the 9 th of December in 1992. Their divorce was finalized on the 28 th of August in 1996. The

Extended essay-To what extent does a plant-based diet lower the risk of coronary artery disease

Extended essay: To what extent does a plant-based diet lower the risk of coronary artery disease?

It was very close to what human atherosclerosis looks like. 29 A controlled trial in 1981 studied 21 strict vegetarians for eight weeks. First they followed their regular diet for two weeks and then they were fed 250 grams of beef daily in addition to what they used to eat before. The participants didn’t experience any changes in HDL-cholesterol levels, but their total blood cholesterol had gone up by 19% at the end of the fourth week. 30 Another cohort study, on elderly people, suggested that high levels of LDL cholesterol are not necessarily linked to cardiovascular diseases, and that total cholesterol lowers as people got older, so it didn’t affect their cardiovascular health. 31 Still, these findings have little back-up and LDL-cholesterol levels need further investigation, before we can rule out the possibility of it being one of the risk factors for coronary artery disease.

Charity Starting in the mid - to late 1980s, the Princess of Wales became increasingly known for her support of numerous charities. Diana, however, developed an interest in serious illnesses and health-related matters outside the purview of traditional royal involvement, including AIDS and leprosy. In addition, the Princess patronised charities and organisations working with the homeless, youth, drug addicts and the elderly. From 1989, she was the President of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Diana was mostly known, in the last year of her life, as the most visible supporter of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, a campaign that went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 after her death. In April 1987, the Princess of Wales was one of the first public figures to be photographed touching a person infected with HIV. She contributed to changing the public

CULTURE? National emblems. The Estonian blue-black-and-white national flag was originally the flag of the Estonian Students' Society, consecrated in Otepää Church in 1884. Today there is a memorial plaque on the church wall commemorating the event. The Flag Museum was opened in 1996. During the Soviet time the flag was prohibited. But many people hided their flags somewhere and the flag was seen again in 1988 in public. A meeting was held in Tartu and elderly people were carrying the flags, nationalistic speeches were told and patriotic songs were sung. Tears were rolling down people's cheeks. The Estonian flag is hoisted every morning at sunrise and lowered at sunset. The national anthem of Estonia is called My Native Land, My Pride and Joy. It was composed in 1848 by Friedrich Pacius. The words were written by Johann Voldemar Jannsen. It was performed in 1869 in the first Song Festival in Tartu and it

make up that Christie feeling, is missing."[3] An unnamed reviewer in the Toronto Daily Star of 10 April 1948 said, "Hercule Poirot, whose eggshaped cranium is crammed with lively gray cells, proves himself a bit of a mug before he sorts out all the details of [Enoch Arden's] death and other even more baffling mysteries. But he does it with all the acumen that has endeared him to Agatha Christie fans. Fantastic and topping."[4] Robert Barnard: "Elderly man married to a glamorous nitwit of dubious social background is a common plotelement in Christie. Here she is widowed (in an airraid this is one of the few Christies anchored to an actual time), and burdened by financially insatiable relatives, both of blood and in-law. But who exactly is dead, and who isn't? And who is what they seem, and who isn't? Compulsive reworking of Tennysonian and Christiean themes, and pretty high up in the range of classic titles. "[5]

The Flag Museum attracts tourists who take an interest in the history of the flag. After about half a century, during which it was prohibited by the Soviet authorities, the flag was sen again in public for the first time in Tartu. Many elderly people were carrying the flags they had kept in secret hiding places durin the Soviet years; tears were rolling down their cheeks. On 24 February 1989, Estonia, still part of the Soviet Union, hoisted its tricolour on the tower of Pikk Hermann in Tallinn. Since then the flag has always been hoisted with ceremony on that day, which is the national holiday the anniversary of the Republic.
