Clay Bricks

Clay in Estonia (slide 6) There are 3 basic types of clay in Estonia. Firstly from Cambrian era the blue clay, which has blue-greenish color and deposit fields round 100m thick found in North-Estonia. Secondly from Devon era the Red-Brown colored clay mostly find in South-Estonia and finally the layered clay found on islands mainly. The quality of the layerd clay is poor beacause it is limestone-rich. There are aroud 30 filed mineral deposits in Estonia. What is a brick? (slide 7) A brick is a block or a single unit of a ceramic material used in masonry construction. Typically bricks are stacked together or laid as brickwork using various kinds of mortar to hold the bricks together and make a permanent structure. Bricks are typically produced in common or standard sizes in bulk quantities. They have been regarded as one of the longest lasting and strongest building materials used throughout history. In the general sense, a "brick" is a standard-sized weight-bearing building unit

tuntust mujal maailmas. Kuna Iraanis on paljud iraanlaste loodud filmid keelatud ning need on tuntumad just välismaalastele, siis paneb see mind mõtlema, kas seda saabki üldse nimetada Iraani kinoks. Muidugi see näitab meile, milline olukord on Iraani ühiskonnas, kinodes ning mis ideed on just iraanlastest režissööridel, kuid kas keelatud filmid kuuluvad siiski Iraani kino alla. Henry Moore

Moore produced at least three significant examples of architectural sculpture during his career. In 1928, despite his own self-described "extreme reservations", he accepted his first public commission for West Wind for the London Underground Building at 55 Broadway in London, joining the company of Jacob Epstein and Eric Gill. In 1952, he completed a four- part concrete screen for the Time-Life Building in New Bond Street, London, and in 1955 Moore turned to his first and only work in carved brick, "Wall Relief no. 1" at the Bouwcentrum in Rotterdam. The brick relief was sculptured with 16,000 bricks by two Dutch bricklayers. Even after he passed away, August 31, 1986 in Herforshire, Moore's work is still greatly celebrated, collected, exhibited, auctioned and showcased in museums and other prominent public places near and far.

Funk

Funk on afroameerika tantsumuusika, milles on esiplaanil rütm. Harmoonia ja meloodia on vähem tähtsad. Rütm on punkteeritud, palju kasutatakse sünkoope. Tuntumad esitajad on Tower of Power, The Commodores, James Brown jt.

Snatch

Elton John

In 2000 the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences honored John as Person of the Year for his charity work. His first band was called Bluesology. Elton John had 30 different hits on the top 40 charts between 1970 and 1982. His stage appearances of elaborate costumes and outlandish spectacles, helped make him a pop megastar. 5 of Elton John's most famous songs are : - Rocket Man - Candle In The Wind - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Can You Feel The Love Tonight He has also made soundtracks for: Billy Elliot, The Lion King etc. I dont listen to Elton John's music, but i've read that he uses progressions of rock music, he has a wonderful style of playing (for example dynamic changes) and the secret to his unique songwriting is that he has created a really good melody.

What were Roman buildings made of? Buildings were made of stone and brick. They were so well built that we have been able to excavate many Roman buildings and even towns. What were the names of the Roman towns? The three largest were London, Colchester and St. Albans. Colchester was their main town. The Romans called towns with different names to what we know them as today. Lindum (Lincoln)

Durability of concrete In this presentation I'm focusing on the durability of concrete. First I'll give a brief overview of concrete, we have to know what does it actually means and where is it used? (slide) Basically concrete is a construction material composed of cement, aggregate (generally gravel, limestone, or granite, plus a fine aggregate such as sand) also water, and chemical admixtures.(slide) Concrete is used to make pavements, architectural structures, foundations, roads, bridges, marine- and parking structures, brick/block walls and footings for gates, fences and so forth. Mainly it is used because of its high durability and availability, but also because it is cheaper than to use wood for example. Concrete is used more than any other man-made material in the world.(slide) Moving on, the durability of concrete can be defined as the ability to remain serviceable for at least the require...

The Queen/Kuninganna essee filmist

young Mr. Blair intervened with the Queen until finally the House of Windsor made a public demonstration of something like humanity. The film showed me the life of the royal family. There aren't very much positive things about this film, because it showed the downside of the family. I only liked Tony Blair and Prince Charles. They were both very humane and they had a real heart inside instead of a cold brick. There are some things that I didn't like about the movie. For example The royal family nature. Ofcourse not all the members were so hypocritical like Queen Elizabeth II. I understand that it was just a movie, but if the queen is in real life the same like she was described in the movie, then I am very astonied. She was so rude and impolite to her grandchildren's mother and always showed Diana in bad light.

Short overview of London

During the reign of Elizabeth I, the map of London was published. In plagues (in 1603; 16641665) thousands of people died. In 1642 civil war began between the king and parliament. In 1666 came the great fire of London. About 13,200 houses had been destroyed and 70 80,000 people had been made homeless. To prevent such a disaster happening again the king commanded that all new houses in London should be of stone and brick not wood. In 1834 Parliament was destroyed by fire. The new parliament included a great clock, which is now known as Big Ben. In the 19th century new museums were created in London such as the Victoria & Albert, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum. The first doubledecker bus appeared in the streets of London as early as in 1904. After the two world wars, London went through a massive rebuilding.

The central span of 200 feet (61 m) between the towers was split into two equal leaves, which could be raised to an angle of 83 degrees to allow river traffic to pass. The leaves, weighing over 1,000 tons each, were balanced to minimize the force required and allow raising in five minutes. · Jones died in 1887 and George D. Stevenson took over the project. · Stevenson replaced Jones' original brick facade with the more ornate Victorian Gothic style, which makes the bridge a distinctive landmark. · The bridge was officially opened on 30 June 1894 by The Prince of Wales. · The total cost of construction was £1,200,000. Hydraulic systems · The original raising mechanism was powered by pressurised water. · In 1974, the original operating mechanism was largely replaced by a new electro- hydraulic drive system. · During World War II, as a precaution

Taj Mahal

of moon and finial point combine to create a trident shape, reminiscent of traditional Hindu symbols of Shiva. Construction The Taj Mahal was built on a parcel of land to the south of the walled city of Agra. An area of roughly three acres was excavated, filled with dirt to reduce seepage and leveled at 50 meters above riverbank. In the tomb area, wells were dug and filled with stone and rubble as the footings of the tomb. Instead of lashed bamboo, workmen constructed a colossal brick scaffold that mirrored the tomb. The scaffold was so enormous that foremen estimated it would take years to dismantle. According to the legend, Shah Jahan decreed that anyone could keep the bricks taken from the scaffold, and thus it was dismantled by peasants overnight. A fifteen kilometer tamped-earth ramp was built to transport marble and materials to the construction site. Teams of twenty or thirty oxen were strained to pull blocks on specially constructed wagons.

Londoni Referaat

London is the capital of both England and the United Kingdom, and the largest metropolitan area in the European Union. An important settlement for two millennia, London's history goes back to its founding by the Romans. Since its foundation, London has been part of many movements and phenomena throughout history, including the English Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the Gothic Revival. The city's core, the ancient City of London, still retains its limited medieval boundaries; but since at least the 19th century, the name "London" has also referred to the whole metropolis that has developed around it. Today the bulk of this conurbation forms the London region of England and the Greater London administrative area, with its own elected mayor and assembly. London is one of the world's most important business, financial and cultural centres and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion and the arts contri...

Anglo - Saxon

The architectural character of Anglo- Saxon ecclesiastical buildings range from Coptic influenced architecture in the early period; basilica influenced Romanesque architecture; and in the later Anglo-Saxon period, an architecture characterised by pilaster-strips, blank arcading, baluster shafts and triangular headed openings. There are few remains of Anglo-Saxon architecture, with no secular work remaining above ground. All surviving churches, except one timber church, are built of stone or brick and in some cases show evidence of re-used Roman work. Art Anglo-Saxon art is mainly known today through illuminated manuscripts. Although they are the most well known to have survived. Perhaps the best known piece of Anglo-Saxon art is the Bayeux Tapestry which was commissioned by a Norman patron from English artists working in the traditional Anglo-Saxon style. The most common example of Anglo-Saxon art is coins, with thousands of examples extant

A Modern Answer to the Commune

Indeed, Ms. Berger and others seem to share the ideals of the old- fashioned communes of yore, except that their groups are tiny, urban-centric and linked to outside interests like fixing bikes or, here in New York City, membership in the Park Slope food co-op. And like communes, many collectives give themselves names: The House of Tiny Egos (a name that's decidedly more evocative than, say, Findhorn, that of the hoary Scottish commune) is a five-person collective in a century-old brick bungalow 1 in Bed-Stuy. Not only do they aim to remain of the world, they hope for a convenient location, one that's near all the major subway stops. Are their numbers surging? Hard to tell, though people who study more traditional "intentional communities" -- that is, any group of individuals living together with shared

The City on London

Romans. The Roman Londinium grew up on the northern side of the "London Bridge" in the past. Products such as olive oil, wines and fruit were brought by ships from different parts of the Roman Empire and unloaded onto wooden quays along the river. In AD 61 the native Celtic Iceni tribe, led by Queen Boudicca, rose up against The Romans. They burnt Londinium to the ground but Roman armies eventually defeated Boudicca. The city was rebuilt and was gradually surrounded with a wall of stone and brick which lasted for many centuries. During the archeological excavations in 1954 the Roman Temple of Mithras was revealed. It was a pagan temple dedicated to the Persian Sun-god. The Temple was later reconstructed only a short way from its original site and the relics are displayed in the Museum of London in the Barbican. At the end of the fourth century AD the Roman Empire began to crumble and the Roman armies were recalled from Britain to defend Rome itself. Once they had
