Thoughts on Air Pollution Essay

Air pollution Every day, the average person inhales about 20,000 liters of air. Every time we breathe, we risk inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. Air pollution includes all contaminants found in the atmosphere. These dangerous substances can be either in the form of gases or particles. Air pollution can be found both outdoors and indoors. Pollutants can be trapped inside buildings, causing indoor pollution that lasts for a long time. The sources of air pollution are both natural and human-based. As one might expect, humans have been producing increasing amounts of pollution as time has progressed, and they now account for the majority of pollutants released into the air. Air pollution has been a problem throughout history. Even in Ancient Romepeople complained about smoke put into the atmosphere. The effects of air pollution are diverse and numerous. Air...

European yew - plant in Estonia

The leaves are lanceolate, flat, dark green and highly poisonous. The seed cones are highly modified, each cone containing a single seed long partly surrounded by a modified scale which develops into a soft, bright red berry-like structure called an aril. The arils are mature 69 months after pollination, and with the seed contained are eaten by thrushes, waxwings and other birds. The aril is not poisonous. The seeds themselves are extremely poisonous and bitter, but are opened and eaten by some bird species Toxicity The bark, stem, needles and seeds of the yew are poisonous, although birds can eat the berries without digesting the seed. Film review - Billy Elliot

Billy Elliot ,,Billy Elliot" is a movie directed by Stephen Daldry, which is amazingly touching and shouldn't be missed by anyone. When I first found out we were going to watch a film in our English class, at the beginning I was very sceptic, but after the first 15 minutes I already liked it. In fact, I ended up loving this film. This movie inspires lot's of young people to follow their dreams no matter how far they might have to reach and how difficult it might look in the beginning. The main character is this 11-year-old boy named Billy, played by Jamie Bell. His life is quite miserable as he lives in a small town with his father and an older brother. His father forces him to go boxing to continue a family tradition of boxers, but Billy is not really good at it and he doesn't like it either. Then suddenly Billy finds himself a new hobby he actually enjoys and that is ballet. There is a small ballet group in this town, taught by Ms Wil...

Agatha Cristie - The Clocks

Book Review I read a book The Clocks by Agatha Cristie. It is an exciting detective story about a investigation that takes place when a unknown dead male was found in a blind lady's hotel room. The dead body was found when the blind lady, Miss Pebmarsh called to the secretary bureau and needed a stenographer to her room at three o' clock. The stenographist, Sheila Webb found the body lying on the ground after she went in. The investigation begins when two police inspectors Colin Lamb and Dick Hardcastle start to question people who lived nearby. Since the police dont get very far, Hercule Poirot is hired to solve the case. Mangrove forest

MIS ON MANGROVE FOREST ÜLDSE? Mangrove swamps are found in tropical and subtropical tidal areas. Many mangrove forests can be recognized by their dense tangle of prop roots that make the trees appear to be standing on stilts above the water. This tangle of roots allows the trees to handle the daily rise and fall of tides, which means that most mangroves get flooded at least twice per day. The roots also slow the movement of tidal waters, causing sediments to settle out of the water and build up the muddy bottom. KAARDIGA SLAID Mangroves can be found in over 118 countries and territories in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The largest percentage of mangroves is found between 5° (degrees hääldad seda kraadi märki) North and 5° South latitudes.[20] Approximately 75% of world's mangroves are found in just 15 countries. Asia has the largest amount (42%) of the world's mangroves, followed by Africa (21%), North/Central Ameri...

Losses of our life

Losses of our life Losing is an everyday phenomenon, whether you lose a sock, a pen or your keys, but aswell things, people tend to get lost too. Some are found and alive, but some are not, and it´s a tragedy. I can´t imagine losing a beloved one, it would be awful, but so many of us have to face this terrible situation, where you don´t know if the person is safe and alright. As always, there are situations where the person doesn´t want to be found, or where she/he disappears without a trace. The reasons of disappearing are very variable, from criminal cases, trafficking in human beings, getting recruited as prostitutes to very hidden and deeply personal matters. The average amout of missing people in Estonia is 199 persons per year, although 70% of the missing persons in 2001-2005 were found alive, luckily. In 2007, night before 24th of June, a 19 year old girl Maris Järve was lost in Pärnu, she wa...

Unusual animals

I slaid I am going to talk about strange animals that live in Australia. II slaid Australian kangaroos are the most famous Australian animals, and they belong to the most recognisable icons in the world. Australians call them 'roos' and they can be found in all parts of Australia, not just in the Outback. Their young are called joeys. All kangaroos are herbivores and only eat plants. The biggest enemies of kangaroos are humans. III slaid The Koala is one of Australia's best known animals. It is an icon represented when promoting Australia to the tourist industry. Koalas are mainly found in the south east Australia. Koalas are often referred to as a Koala bear. However they are not a bear. The name Koala comes from an Aboriginal word. It means "no drink", as Koalas get enough fluids through the eucalyptis leaves they feed on. They do not move around much and are only active for about 2 hours of the day. What do scientists think about yetis?

The Yeti or Abominable Snowman is a ape-like mythological creature. Even though there is little evidence that the Yeti exists, it has been speculated by some scientists that these creatures could be called as Gigantopithecus. Over numerous conferences, the result that scientists gave was that Yeti actually exists. One of the evidences made scientist believe was the film of female yeti that was taken in California 30 years ago. Other evidences are reports of hikers seeing yeti in the mountains and also their footprints. The reason why report was so strongly supported and believable was because scientists noticed that no one would go up Himalayas and make a lie. One more report was sent from a team of hikers who climbed Mountain Everest. Most scientists believe the Yeti does not exist because there are no final results found yet to this answer. As to the evidence found by explorers that seems to support the existence of the yeti, none has...

Temperate deciduous forests, woodlands and shrub

Temperate deciduous forests, woodlands and shrub Tartu 2008 Location: Temperate forests are typical of all European continent, the Eastern region of Asia (in special, Chinese and Japan) and North America. Also are finded in tempered areas of South America. Climate: The average temperature in temperate forests is 50° F. Summers are mild, and average about 70° F, while winter temperatures are often well blow freezing. The average yearly precipitation is 30-60 inches. This precipitation falls throughout the year, but in the winter it falls as snow. There are four seasons in this biome, with warm summers and cold winters, often snowy. In autumn, the leaves change color and fall from the trees. The leaves decay on the forest floor, so the soil is very rich. Because of this, and because of the long growing season, many deciduous forests have been cut down for farming purposes. Plants: Trees of this biome include hardwood...

Surprise

Surprise I felt so excited when I looked at the envelope. Because it was adressed to me and I hadn`t got any letters for a long time. I had just found it when I came to the kitchen. It was afternoon and I arrived from school. I hadn`t been expecting that kind of surprise at all. There was a name and an address on the other side, which I didn`t recognize. In addition, it seemed a bit weird that the envelope was on the floor, next to the table, but on second thought it could have been there by accident. So now I went upstairs, to my room and sat on the armchair. I sat there for a moment, holding the letter on my lap and looking out the window to let the curiousity grow. Than I prepared to tear it open, but some noise from downstairs interrupted me. I sat still and listened for a minute, it was quiet again. As I laid my eyes on the envelope again the same sound, only louder, interrupte...

The poor farmer's daugters

THE POOR FARMER'S DAUGHTERS Once upon a time there lived a poor farmer who only had seven children as his treasure. They were all girls, named after every famous queen the country had had. However, none of them was his child they were all orphans, found in the nearby forest many years ago, during the Great War. The eldest one was Margaret; she had long dark shiny hair and big blue eyes. She was a true beauty compared to the other maidens at the village. However, she had a bad side as well the only one she ever cared about was she herself. And when living at the county-side, being an egoist is not good. Lucia was the next. This year she would turn 16 if she hadn't played with a magical potion in the childhood. But, unfortunately, she fell in the kettle filled with liquor of youth and now remains as a 10-year-old for the rest of her life. It's sad, but at least she looks cute with her short blonde hair and ...

Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, a port city in Italy, in 1451. This is the name we know him by today but his actual name is Cristobal Colon in Spanish, or Cristofero Colombo in Italian. He first went to sea at the age of 1465 at the age of 14. He was a deck boy and he had to clean, cook and mend clothes. By the age of 30 he was an experienced sailor and a skilful navigator. He had made many journeys to the South Atlantic from his home the Madeira Islands. He also sailed to Bristol and Galway. Many people believed that he had also sailed to the north of Iceland in 1477. During those visits Columbus heard stories about life to the west of Europe. His ambition to find the shortest and safest sea route to the riches of the Far East started to grow. Gradually he worked out his plan to reach the East by sailing west. In 1482 Columbus...

Letter of complain (restaurant)

Dear Sir/Madam, I and my friend visited your restaurant yesterday to celebrate the beginning of our vacation. Unfortunately, the substandard food served in your restaurant really dampened our spirits. Firstly, I ordered salad, but it was not fresh. Furthermore, the vegetables had not been washed. I found pieces of dirt on the lettuce leaves. Then, I was served a really tasteless steak. It was tough and chewy. I called the waiter to bring me new steak. After waiting, the waiter finally came and gave me a new steak. To my astonishment, it was as bad as the first one. As if that was not bad enough, when I decided to eat my apple pie, I found out that it was stale and dry. Once again, I called waiter, but he claimed that it had been freshly made that morning. As you can imagine, I was extremely upset by the treatment I received and I will certainly not visit your restaurant again. I hope that in futu...

Drug addiction is just a habit, like smoking or biting your nails.

Drug addiction is just a habit, like smoking or biting your nails. Drug users can give up if they want to. INTRODUCTION The drug problem in my town is very big problem. The older people do not know that, but I know it, because some of my friends do drugs. Drugs in my town are highly available everywere and almost from every person who do drugs. ARGUMENTS AGAINST Actually I do not think that doing drugs is just a habit like smoking or biting nails. It is addiction. When people are going to do drugs, then they may never come out of this trouble. They are just going to do it, and they can not stop it easily. It is not as simple as some people think, when you are addicted, then it is like smoking that is why you can not quit it so easily. CONCLUSION I did not found any arguments „for“. I only found arguments against. And I think that you can not quit something when you are addicted from something.

Austraalia

Australia Topic Koostas: Aineõpetaja: Tallinn 2011 Location Only one country in the world fills a whole continent. That country is Australia. The continent it fills is Australia, too. Australia, then, is both a country and a continent. If someone wants to make clear that he is speaking of the country, he may call it by its full name of Commonwealth of Australia. Sixty million years ago Australia and its nearby islands were separated from the rest of the world by a great upheaval. They were cut off from Asia by the ocean. Very few people and almost no animals visited Australia before English colonists began to settle there in 1788. During all those 60 million years the native Australian mammals developed by themselves, undisturbed by the animals developing elsewhere. Australia is the only continent except Antarctica that is all sout...
