The bluest eye I read a book called The bluest eye by Toni Morrison. Toni Morrison is a Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize-winning American author, editor, and professor. It is Morrison's first novel, written while she was teaching at Howard University and was raising her two sons on her own. It is a novel publiched in 1970. It is set in 1941 in Ohio. The main character is Pecola Breedlove, a poor black girl who believes she is ugly. Then there is her father, Cholly Breedlove, who is an alcoholic and her two best friends Claudia and Frieda MacTeer. Claudia and Frieda MacTeer live in Ohio with their parents. The MacTeer family takes two other people into their home, Mr. Henry and Pecola. Pecola is a troubled young girl with a hard life. Her parents are constantly fighting, both physically and verbally. When Basil questions Dorian about his wrong doings, he shows Basil the portrait, which is as hideous as Dorian's sins. Dorian blames Basil for everything and stabs Basil. In Deciding that only full confession will free him of his guilt. In a rage, he picks up the knife that killed Basil Hallward and stabs it into the painting. His servants wake up caused by a scream inside a locked room. The servants find Dorian's body, killed by being stabbed to the heart and suddenly aged, old and ugly. It is only by the rings on his hand that the corpse can be identified. Beside him, however, the portrait has turned back to its original form. I liked the book, because it was interesting, but very difficult to read because it had a lot of unfamiliar words.

It hasn't been ruined by time-share developments or scores of ugly hotels, bars and discos. .... in a sense most of us are already using them (computers). How do you mean? Well, whenever we use our washing machines.... we are using computer circuitry. .....many pizza parlours, pubs and burger bars are really being subsidized by the Government. How come? It is easier to hide away a ugly-looking painting, that depicts the eeriness of your soul, than yourself. All that matters is the present day and the face that you see from the mirror. Right? Igas olukorras on kaks poolt ning neid tuleb vaadata koos ja võrdselt. Muinasjutt õpetas lustakas ja lapselikus võtmes elu põhiväärtusi ning jättis mulle väga hea mulje. Lisaks oli muinasjutt ka väga südamlik, autor oskas lugejaid endaga kaasa haarata ja huvi tekitada. Arvan, et tahaksin seda raamatut kindlasti vähemalt ühe korra veel lugeda. Sain teada ka seda, et New Yorgis Central Park’is on Anderseni auks püstitatud ausammas „The Ugly Duckling”. Minu arvates on sellise autori, nagu seda on Hans Christian Andersen, ära märkimine üsna oluline. Tema muinasjutud on väga-väga kuulsad ning arvan, et iga täiskasvanu on vähemalt ühte neist oma lapsepõlves lugenud. Ütleks võib-olla isegi nii, et Anderseni muinasjutud kuuluvad klassikute hulka. Töö probleemiks on see, et inimesed küll teavad Anderseni muinasjuttude pealkirju ja on kursis ka nende sisuga, aga üleüldine teave on üsna väike.
