The picture of Dorian Gray

In the meanwhile Sybil commits suicide, just as Dorian decides to return to her and take back his terrible words. The next day, he covers his portrait and moves it to the attic, to which Dorian has the only key. He then settles in to read a yellow book sent by Lord Henry; the book becomes Dorian's blueprint for life. Several years pass, and Dorian lives a hedonistic life according to the guidelines established by Lord Henry and the yellow book. While the face in the portrait has turned ugly, Dorian remains young, beautiful, and innocent. On Dorian's 38th birthday, he encounters Basil, who desperately asks his former friend if all the horrifying rumors about him are true. Dorian finally snaps and shows Basil the portrait, in which the horrible truth about his wicked nature is revealed. Hallward is horrified and begs him to repent. Cars should be banned in city centers

So, people should use public transport instead of their own car, if they do think about the nature and the air they breathe every second. Secondly, with less traffic there would be fewer accidents. Nowadays many people, especially younger persons, die in the car accidents every week. When we reduce the number of cars in city centers we can avoid these kind of disastrous. Finally, with no cars in town centers there would be no need for large, ugly car parks and parking spaces. This would allow more space for buildings, houses, parks and the movement of buses and people. To sum up, there are many reasons for banning cars in city centers. We must save the environment for our children too.

Hamleti esimese monoloogi kokkuvõte

Hamlet's first soliloquy The soliloquy begins with Hamlet wishing that his body would melt, turn into water and become like dew (hommikukaste). He also would like if the God hadn't made a law forbidding suicide. He says that life seems weary, stale, flat and useless to him. He moans as it is terrible. The world was like and unweeded garden that had finally gone to seed but only ugly things thrived. He can't believe what had happened as his father was dead only two months. Not even that long. He says how excellent king his father was compared to the current king, his uncle. His father was like the sun god Hyperion compared to a lecherous satyr (ihar satüür). He believes that his father had been very loving to his mother and he wouldn't have even allowed the gentle breeze of heaven to blow too roughly on her face. Hamlet doesn't want to remember it, so he closes his ears

It is the work, that you can see and feel the outcome right away and that's why it feels so inspiring and wonderful. Comes a feeling that ugly duckling can actually become beautiful swan if you work hard and give enough effort. Workday fairy tales can be hidden in unimportant details or be something totally common. Their charm comes in timing. In a right time even a butterfly flying by can make a day like a fairy tale.

Litter in our country

The main reason of littering is behaviour. The more litter people see on the street the more inclined to litter. For example, cinema complexes, football ground and theatres are cleaned up but such areas as parks and streets are neglected. But people don't think that litter can be dangerous. It can especially be dangerous when it involves items such as broken glass, needles and syringes. Litter can get into the drainage system and block it. Litter scattered all over the city. Makes it look ugly. And it usually costs a lot of money to clean up the city every year. But the biggest problem is municipal dumps, because they cause environmental pollution. Most of the municipal dumps are filled with plastic bags, different wrapping, shopping bags and supermarket bags. We can also see empty cans from different drinks, broken glass and others. These items don't decompose naturally. They can stay on the soil for many years and contaminate the ground

His servants wake up caused by a scream inside a locked room. The servants find Dorian's body, killed by being stabbed to the heart and suddenly aged, old and ugly. It is only by the rings on his hand that the corpse can be identified. Beside him, however, the portrait has turned back to its original form. I liked the book, because it was interesting, but very difficult to read because it had a lot of unfamiliar words.

Father helped us carry things into the house, after that sister and I decided to take a walk in the woods. Mom asked us to be careful, because people were talking about a creature that was hairy, fast and with bloody eyes and sharp teeth. We thought it is unbelivable and funny, just for people could have something to talk about. After all it seemed impossible. We took different way than usually. We walked until we came to an old, ugly, deserted house. Curiosity was so great that we forgot mom's advice. Approaching the house we saw window frames covered with cobwebs . We decided to open the door even tough we were frightened... Creeeek! We trembled and took a step back .. we realized that it was just the floor board .. we moved on .. it was dark and freaky. Moving to the next room, we found an old broken sofa with black table. The room next to us opened up a hideous view so that I nearly fainted. Hanging down

Shatelie world

"Once upon a time there lived a beautiful young girl whom was called Shatelie..." A nice beginning, isn't it? But the truth isn't so fabulous and spotless as the reality our little heroine had to face. Yes, there is proof that she lived, but beauty? I'm afraid it's just for illustration, because as a matter of fact her father was an ordinary farmer, and logically she had as much beauty as a goat was a cow. It means she was considered quite ugly. One day, after the tiring work in the garden, she felt very dizzy all of sudden and soon fainted under the heating sunlight. When she woke up, she was lying on the floor of a beautiful castle. There were flowers everywhere, but no doors as she noticed soon. "Where oh Earth am I?" the girl wondered now. She wasn't scared, just tired of the work she had to do on her father's farm. Suddenly, strange music of a lonely violin started playing. The melody was so unhappy that Shatelie wanted to cry.

burned every day. That is more than 150 acres lost every minute of every day, and 78 million acres lost every year! More than 20 percent of the Amazon rainforest is already gone, and much more is severely threatened as the destruction continues. It is estimated that the Amazon alone is vanishing at a rate of 20,000 square miles a year. If nothing is done to curb this trend, the entire Amazon could well be gone within fifty years. Massive deforestation brings with it many ugly consequences-air and water pollution, soil erosion, malaria epidemics, the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the eviction and decimation of indigenous Indian tribes, and the loss of biodiversity through extinction of plants and animals. Fewer rainforests mean less rain, less oxygen for us to breathe, and an increased threat from global warming. But who is really to blame? Consider what we industrialized Americans have done to our own homeland

" *Demetrius: Not a nice person. By the time he says he wants to feed Lysander's carcass to his hounds, this seems completely in character. I don't know what Helena sees in him. Neither does she -- such is the irrationality of love, even before the lovers enter the forest. He is the only one who remains under the influence of the magic juice. This is probably good. *Helena: Tall, blonde beauty. Verbal abuse from Demetrius has made her think she's ugly. We have to hope that the love juice never wears off Demetrius, or she is in trouble *Hermia: Short, dark-complected beauty. Spunky and likable. *Lysander: Likable, rationalizer, sense of humor. He suggests Egeus and Demetrius get married. He cites classic stories as models for "the course of true love", and thinks the effects of the love juice are the workings of his own "reason". What do you mean by unnecessary? Let me explain. Every morning, people go up and down motorways or cross from one side of town to the other in their cars, when they could quite easily take trains or buses. Prices are rather expensive, but maybe that's a good thing. How do you mean? I mean that the country isn't inundated with tourists. It hasn't been ruined by time-share developments or scores of ugly hotels, bars and discos. .... in a sense most of us are already using them (computers). How do you mean? Well, whenever we use our washing machines.... we are using computer circuitry. .....many pizza parlours, pubs and burger bars are really being subsidized by the Government. How come? Because nobody would be able to accept jobs in these places if they didn't have their incomes topped up by the state.

no such thing as an ideal person. His good looks does him no good in more than just one way. It makes him vain and obsessed with his appearance. Also looking good is something everyone wants to achieve. And people who envy you often gossip and start nasty rumors about you. A person like Dorian Gray worries about his fading beauty and would do almost anything to keep it. For example he would wish a pretty portrait of himself age instead of him. It is easier to hide away a ugly-looking painting, that depicts the eeriness of your soul, than yourself. All that matters is the present day and the face that you see from the mirror. Right? As it turns out, even for Dorian, the saying out of mind- out of sight doesn't really work. You can only try to deny something but it is inevitable that one day the truth will come out and haunt you again. Since the main emphasize of Dorian's worries concerns his looks it is no wonder that he is selfish and weak

Sain teada ka seda, et New Yorgis Central Park’is on Anderseni auks püstitatud ausammas „The Ugly Duckling”.

impressive - Alessandro Del Piero, David Beckham, Paolo Di Canio, Edgar Davids and Ronaldo have all found themselves kicking sand on the sidelines. In a famous confrontation with Di Canio, the maverick Italian striker who played for Milan, Juventus, Celtic and West Ham, Capello took exception to his player's questioning of why he was trying so hard to win a friendly match during a tour of China. The two men squared up to each other, with Capello reportedly shouting at Di Canio: "You are an ugly c*** and your face looks like a penis." Di Canio, at the time employed by Milan, never played for the team again. 2 Such unabashed low regard for some of the biggest reputations - and salaries - in football has been a defining feature of Capello's lengthy career, which ended as a player in 1979 after respectable spells with Roma, Juventus and the national side.

listening and watching very many movies. (Most subtitles are horrible anyhow.) And some day somehow I started writing more than just a diary. I told stories in English. By now, I've been writing fantasy novels in English for six or seven years. I'm not perfect and I always need some good native speakers for my beta readers, and I have to explain editors that I'm not native and hence make some strange mistakes – and battle with some Estonians that no, I don't think Estonian is ugly and English is so cool and that's why I write my stuff in English. I think a part of it was because my first readers were my friends from abroad. And well, all the books I've read (I think this year I've read about 120 books, only a few of them in Estonian) have given their toll. Working on some major publishing, though. Not even sure if the first book of the last series will come out first in Estonian or in English. Up to Fortuna!

The President of the United States and his family

Racism might refer to the idea that a single race is somehow purer than other races, or that one race genetically exhibits dominance over others. Some believe that race can be a way to determine behavior and performance. Racism in Obama's life When Barack Obama became the first man of African descent to be elected president on Nov. 4, 2008, the world largely viewed it as a boon to race relations. After all, if the country could transcend its ugly racial history to elect a biracial black man president, wasn't it a sign that the U.S. had come full circle as far as race relations were concerned? Roundup In this research paper I explored who is Barack Hussein Obama and who are his parents, his wife and his daughters. I know about his childhood now much more than I used to know. After working on this research paper I also got the answer to my hypothesis and therefore I

In 1986 he knows a new opponent: Ben Johnson, who humiliated him at Goodwill games running 9"95 against 10"06. In 1987 his father died of cancer. At Rome, in the second edition of the world championships he achieved two golds (long jump and 4x100 relay) and a silver in 100 m behind Ben Johnson. The Canadian sprinter was his opposite: ugly, short, poor, awful in the running style. But he was powerful: at start he always earned two - three meters of advantage on Carl. So 1988, year of The Olympic games of Seoul, opened under the challenge of these two men. When Carl won the trials with a windy 9"78 and then beat Johnson at Zurich he seemed to be a dangerous rival for the Canadian. However Johnson won again with 9"79 and Carl finished really far with 9"92. Then, while

been much derided down the years, but the original plans were of considerable note. They planned 2,000 apartments for 6,500 people some in tower blocks over 400-foot high (the tallest in Europe at the time). They also included a Museum of London, the Guildhall School of Music, and a fully-featured arts centre. Very few of the finished buildings are pleasing to the eye the complex is deathly grey and cramped, and it's all too easy to get lost in a dreary world of concrete constructs. The ugly Barbican redeems itself when it comes to culture. The Museum of London has its buildings in the grounds, and you can catch concerts by the London Symphony Orchestra. A lively set of jazz, classical and contemporary pieces are played in the 2,000-seater concert hall. Contemporary art displays are held in The Curve, and the gallery on Level 3, and art-house movies are screened in the art centre's three cinemas. They even have some stage- plays and shows in the Barbican Theatre

class of goods, which cannot practically be withheld from one individual consumer without withholding them from all. In other words, a public good is given to everyone. The free riders like public goods because they are easy to get to and there are tons of them. When there are this many goods, it is hard to spot some of them missing until a bunch are gone and by that time the free rider has moved on too. When this good is used and not paid for, the results can be very ugly. The free rider takes these goods for free, leaving the rest of the hard working people to make up the difference. This difference we have to make up is usually a higher tax. In raising the tax the price of the good goes up and when price goes up demand tends to go down. As the demand keeps falling and the price keeps rising the product usually ends up off the market and filing a chapter eleven. It typically does not go that far but this is an example of what could happen

Other 4 four buildings were built without permission and got their premissions after they were finished. Up until 2001 the property was closed for public as Lennart Meri was Estonian president and apparently this was the only way to ensure his welfare. After leaving the presidential seat, people were allowed to visit the sight but only if they identify themselves before. The whole Armuneeme case was really ugly and what made it worse was the fact that it was the president who acted unlawfully and did not care about the conditions made for this landscape sanctuary. Some ministers did try to stop his actions but their efforts did not work. It is known fact that larger companies can get away with their unlawful acts and act out by their own ideas, which is why Kalaranna insident has grown big interests in public. It is

The Saxons & Vikings

Alfred's son Edward, the Elder, and his sister defeated the Northumbrian Vikings. Edward took control of the Danelaw and ruled over the whole of England. The Danes were not driven out of the country, they were made subjects of Wessex. The descendants of the Danish conquerors became peaceful peasants & traders. They were skilful shipbuilders. They were not very different from the Anglo-Saxons. They had adopted their town. Many Scandinavian words came into the English language (happy, ugly, ill, weak etc.) The Saxons' Golden Age started when Athelstan (Alfred's grandson, Edward's son), won a great victory in 937 against an army of Irish Vikings, Scots & Stathclyde Britons. Athelstan was interested in good government. He ordered on coinage to be used throughout the land. The king was a collector of art & holy relics. After his death his successors, Edmund & Eadred, had to fight new Viking raiders. England was not at peace again until Edgar became king of Wessex in 959

The wall has always been the best place for the presentation of the work. People who rule our cities do not understand graffiti, because they are convinced that the only right to exist is that which benefits. That is why their opinion is worthless. Banksy work is very simple and intelligible, they always have humor (irony at least) and there is always a social overtones. And then everything depends on whether you like it or not. “People say graffiti is ugly, irresponsible and childish. But that's only if it's done properly.” —Banksy CONCLUSION I believe that people should recognize street art as an art. I would like to see more of such drawings on my streets than advertising. It seems to me that there are a lot of inappropriate advertising in the world and even in our city. Advertising privatises our public spaces. Ads are placed out in the public strategically. They are built to coerce, and manipulate

weight. Edema can affect any cell and can therefore occur anywhere in the body, though it is most immediately noticeable in the hands, feet, ankles, and legs, which appear to plump. But it's when the cells in the brain begin to swell that edema becomes most problematic. Confined to the skull, ballooning neurons quickly run out of room to expand and when the brain swells, things can get ugly. Early symptoms can, paradoxically, resemble heat stroke, and include headache, diarrhea, nausea, cramping, and vomiting. In cases where water intake greatly exceeds the kidney's processing abilities, M. Amin Arnaout, chief of nephrology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School tells Scientific American that symptoms can escalate to include seizure, coma, respiratory arrest, brain stem herniation, and death. Adjectives and adjective phrases Adjectives are words in English that describe the noun. They can take different positions in sentences. 6.1 Four properties of adjectives  Attributive adjectives – An adjective is attributive when it comes before a noun. For example: An ugly painting, an old man  Predicative adjectives – An adjective is predicative when it comes after a noun. For example: He looks unwell. I am afraid.  Postpositive adjectives – Adjectives that come immediately after a noun. For example: Something useful, everyone present, those responsible  Modification and inflection – Adjectives can take modifying words before them such as very, less, extremely etc

I have seen speakers in the middle of their presentation accidentally begin pushing the "reverse" control instead of the "forward" control, continue reading from a script, and create total confusion between words and images on the screen. · Pay special attention to the microphone. So many speakers step up to the microphone, adjust the "gooseneck" holder (which always creates an ugly, grating sound), and then begin to speak not knowing if the voice is booming or barely being heard. Another tipoff to the skill and experience of speakers is to note if they clear the throat or, worse yet, if their first words are "Can you hear me?" It is far wiser to check out the microphone well in advance, assuring that the volume level is set so that people in the back of the room can hear you comfortably
