Charles Dickens "Our Mutual Friend"

A young man called John Harmon stands alone on the deck of a ship sailing up the River Thames. He looks down at the dark river and asks himself that is that right to come back. His father is dead and John is rich now, when he will marry a girl he has never seen. That was told in his father's will, where is told that John Harmon will inherit all his father's money when he will marry a certain girl who is named Bella Wilfer. It is an autumn evening and dark shadows are covering the river. There is a boat and in it is sitting Jesse Hexam with his daughter Lizzie. Suddenly, another boat appears and the man in it starts to talk with Jesse. He is called Rogue Riderhood and he says that Jesse is his partner, but Jesse doesn't agree with this and he asks Lizzie to row home as fast as she can. While rowing, they find a drowned man at the end of the boat's rope. Later Mortimer Lightwood, who was old John Harmon's lawyer, receives a letter from a ...

TRADERUN ANSWERS

TRADERUN ANSWERS 1. Have the ENP and EaP been successful in terms of their original goals? Which has been the theoretical logic to cause it? Bring examples! The main idea of the ENP is to offer our neighbours a privileged relationship, building upon a mutual commitment to common values (democracy and human rights, rule of law, good governance, market economy principles and sustainable development). The ENP goes beyond existing relationships to offer political association and deeper economic integration, increased mobility and more people-to- people contacts. The level of ambition of the relationship depends on the extent to which these values are shared.

Summary Britta Kase

The idea of united Europe was born in the former enemies France and Germany that they should join together. The first body from which today’s EU emerged was the European Coal and Steel Community. The aim was to manage the coal reserves collectively, coal was the most important energy source then. Each country had a say in the affairs of every other country, none of them could then work or secretly arm against another, but they could rebuild Europe together and peace could be assured in Europe. Mutual emnity thus turned into cooperation and this was extremely successful, more and more countries have joined the EU over the years. Britta Kase 143123HAKB The basic principles behind the EU are maintaining peace among the member states, cooperation for mutual benefit and increasingly common external action.

eventually made up. Finally, it’s not how much friends spend time together, but what they do when they are together. Again, whenever I visit my friend in Germany, we always share a quality time together. And that’s what really counts. Option 2 I rather disagree. To begin with, you have to spend time with your friends. For example, it is much easier to make friends with those you share some common hobbies with. Moreover, in order to offer mutual support, friends need to be there for each other all the time. For instance, it would be difficult for me and my best friend to help each other if we didn’t live in the same town. Finally, in order to move to the same direction, you and your friend just have to have time for each other. For example, I feel more connected with those friends I see on a daily basis than with those I see very seldom. Option 3 I partly agree and partly disagree

Tourism

Tourism is one of the most developing kind of services in the world. However, it brings us not only benefits, but also dangers. I would like to discuss the problem in the following composition. Tourism can be very profitable. Especially when the country or an area is attractive and good weather is guaranteed. The most popular places to which people come are mountains, sea or lakes. The advantage of tourism is the mutual cooperation of the tourists and people who are working in this branch. These first can spend their time relaxing themselves. These second earn money. It's said that travel broadens the mind. I think it's true because we can meet another people and visit various places all over the world. We can find out more about foreign cultures and traditions or languages. In this sense traveling can be an instructive experience.

However, it brings us not only benefits, but also dangers. Some tourists don't respect the places they visit and they dump trash or vandalise. There is also a danger of overcrowding and epidemics. The most popular places to which people travel are mountains, seasides or warm countries. The advantage of tourism is the mutual cooperation of the tourists and people who are working in this business. I have traveld into two countries :Finland and Latvia. Both trips was class trips. In the future i would like to visit Italy and Scottland. Also i would like to take a trip to south-estonia,because i have never been there.

Teamwork: the pros and cons

ideas. No idea is a bad idea when person is working alone. It's an amazing feeling when person can create his owns ideas or do whatever his heart desires. There is only one, with own ideas and trust in his own decision making. Of course, person will be fully responsible for the outcome. The common goal in teamwork is good for morale and fosters team spirit but in individual work person can't get help from others or be appreciated by others for ideas. Also collaboration and mutual feedback are fulfilling and make people feel more valued however individual person can also feel valued for himself, but he can't feel valued by the others if person want to be valued he must share his ideas or creation with others to make their work or situation more easier. There can be bad sides in teamwork like if somebody doesn't fit in with the others ,it can be disruptive and can undermine the work of the team and teams can stifle individual enterprise

Estonian Independence Day

Independence Day On 24 February, Independence Day is celebrated in the Rebublic of Estonia. This is the day that the Manifesto was declared in Tallinn 91 years ago. In responce to a period of Russification initiated by the Russian empire in the 1890's, Estonian nationalism took on more political tones, with intellectuals first calling for greater autonomy, and later, complete independence from the Russian empire. Following the Bolshevik takeover of power in Russia after the October Revolution of 1917 and German victories against the Russian army, between the Russian Red Army's retreat and the arrival of advancing German troops, the Committee of Elders of the Maapäev issued the Estonian Declaration of Independence in Pärnu on February 24, 1918. after winning the Estonian Liberation War against Soviet Russia and at the same time German Freekorps volunteers (the Tartu Peace Treaty was signed on 2 February 1920), Estonia maintai...

Writting a summary

Writting a summary I read the following sections of the booklet „Europe. A journal for young people“. The booklet is listed in 7 sections:“ Europe in everday life“; „The European Union- what does this mean exactly?“; „How does the European Union work?“; „What exactly does the EU do?“; „Europe moves on_ the enlargement of the European Union“; „Europe and the wider world“ and „The future of Europe“. ‘Europe is somewhere else.’ This provocative statement opens the first chapter of „Europe. A journal for young people“. It is, of course, not true. As EU citizens, Europe is our home. It affects our lives in many areas. For example: money (euro is a common currency); flying has become much cheaper and safer; the police forces in the EU work closely together and European environmental protection lays down common standards. The second sections provides information about what does the European Union exactly means and when did 28 countries come ...

individuals. Mountain lions apparently existed at very low numbers between 1925 and 1940. They maintain a secretive profile in the Yellowstone region. Although the cougar population numbered in the hundreds during the early 1900s, controlled hunts between 1904 and 1925 decimated the population. Today, twenty to thirty-five mountain lions reportedly inhabit Yellowstone Park, but sightings are rare. Shy and elusive, mountain lions live solitary lives and practice mutual avoidance. Males and females interact for breeding when females are about 2 1/2 years old. Giving birth throughout the year, females can have litters of up to four kittens, but usually only one or two survive. Born spotted, the kittens stay with their mothers for about 18 months, after which time they will leave in search of their own home range. The Mountain Lion is capable stalk-and-ambush predator; the cougar pursues a wide variety of prey

Hemingway A Farewell to Arms (overview)

He tries to plan a trip with Catherine, who reveals to him that she is pregnant. The following day, Henry is diagnosed with jaundice, and Miss Van Campen, the superintendent of the hospital, accuses him of bringing the disease on himself through excessive drinking. Believing Henry's illness to be an attempt to avoid his duty as a serviceman, Miss Van Campen has Henry's leave revoked, and he is sent to the front once the jaundice has cleared. As they part, Catherine and Henry pledge their mutual devotion. Henry travels to the front, where Italian forces are losing ground and manpower daily. Soon after Henry's arrival, a bombardment begins. When word comes that German troops are breaking through the Italian lines, the Allied forces prepare to retreat. Henry leads his team of ambulance drivers into the great column of evacuating troops. The men pick up two engineering sergeants and two frightened young girls on their way

Jane Austeni "Emma" ja "Persuasion"

Elton's future wife. In bringing the two together socially, Emma does a drawing of Harriet which Mr. Elton admires and takes off to London to be framed. This appears so promising to Emma that, when Harriet receives a letter of proposal from Robert Martin, Emma discredits him and actually helps Harriet write a letter of refusal in spite of the fact that Mr. Knightley has nothing but respect for Robert. Ensuing events convince Emma that Harriet and Mr. Elton are developing a mutual regard, and she takes pride in the apparent success of her endeavor, at the same time affirming that she herself will never marry. For the Christmas holidays Mr. and Mrs. John Knightley, respectively the brother of George Knightley and the sister of Emma, come from London with their five children to visit the Woodhouses. On December 24, which proves to be a bad day of snow, all of them, including George Knightley and Mr. Elton, go for a dinner with the Westons. There

Accompanied by one Peter, who carries her fan, the nurse exchanges some spicy insults with the bawdy Mercutio. With the help of Juliet's Nurse and the Franciscan Friar Lawrence, the two are married that day. The Friar performs the ceremony, hoping to bring the two families to peace with each other through their mutual union. Events take the darker turn after that. Tybalt, still smarting from the incident at the Capulets' ball, had previously sent a letter to the Montagues challenging Romeo to a duel. Meeting Romeo by happenstance, he attempts to provoke a fight. Romeo refuses to fight Tybalt because they are now kinsmen -- although Tybalt doesn't know it, as he doesn't yet know that Romeo has married Juliet. Mercutio, who is also unaware

The Norman Conquest

used to refer to land held in return for duty or service to a lord. The basis of feudal society was the holding of land, and its main purpose was economic. All land was divided into manors. Most manors contained a village. A baron was tenant-in-chief and had several manors. He passed on part of his military obligations to his tenants, who held manors from him. The tenants of each manor performed specific regular services for their lord. Under them were the peasants, tied by a strict system of mutual duties and obligations to the local lord, and forbidden to travel without his permission. The peasants were English speaking Saxons. The lords and the barons were French-speaking Normans. There were two basic principles to feudalism: every man had a lord, and every lord had land. The king was connected through this `chain' of people to the lowest man in the country. On the other hand, each lord had responsibilities to his vassals. He had to give them land and protection.

väärtpabereid kas orderil märgitud- või turuhinnaga. Osaku puhasväärtus (Net asset value e NAV) - Fondi ühe osaku puhasväärtus. Saadakse, kui fondi varade ja kohustuste vahe jagatakse müüdud osakute arvuga (varad kohustused/müüdud osakud). NAV arvutatakse kord päevas peale kauplemispäeva lõppu. Avatud fondi puhul ongi NAV hinnaks, millega on fondiosakuid võimalik osta. Locke essay

were all the workmanship of one omnipotent Locke (1821, p. 191) and the only way taking a life might be justified was if someone threatened one's liberty. Locke's state of nature is far removed from how Hobbes (1981, pp. 56-57) describes it as being a state of war in which man is in perpetual fear and his life being ...solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. However, it seems that Locke is quick to revert from his stance of a state of nature being a state of peace, good will, mutual assistance, and preservation Locke (1821, p. 202) and it becomes apparent that there is in fact an overlap with Hobbes account. As there is no temporal or divine authority to protect ones property in a state of nature enjoyment of it is very uncertain and constantly exposed to the invasion of others Locke (1821, p. 295) Locke asserts that once a man combines his own labour with material from a state of nature, he has a natural right to it as he has removed it from its original state

A Modern Answer to the Commune

to address that." Ms. Berger met Ms. Hazard, who had been living in the East Village in her mother's town house and looking for work in "social justice," she said, at a permaculture conference in Vermont last summer. Permaculture is big with the collective-living crowd; it's a model for sustainable living that extrapolates principles from natural ecologies -- like how different plants grow together for their mutual benefit -- and applies them to other systems like, well, group housing. Ms. Berger and Ms. Hazard had had collective living experiences before, in upstate New York and Oregon, and they connected over what they had learned there, as well as over the creeping dread both were feeling about returning home to New York City. "If we could envision it," Ms. Berger said, "we thought we could build it." Energetic, cheerful and outgoing, they seemed very nicely matched, in this reporter's

perhaps, the general public has heard of "survival of the fittest" a poor phrase as far as I'm concerned, since fitness in everyday usage is associated with physical conditioning and athletic ability. "Survival of the most suited to its environment" would be a more accurate, and convincing expression for this pedicular concept. But to most of us, "evolution" simply means that human beings are descended from apes, a slight misunderstanding, since both humans and modern apes are descendants of a mutual ancestor that is now extinct. It's not evolution but the theory of natural selection and the evidence he collected to prove to fellow scientists, peers, students, and most importantly the masses of public and the church that were at the heart of Darwin's contribution to biological science. Charles Darwin did not invent the concept of evolution. A number of prominent scientists and other thinkers during the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century

Cost Accounting notes

Allocating costs of multiple support departments: direct method, step-down method, reciprocal method. Direct method allocates each support department's costs to operating departments only, it does not allocate support-dept costs to other support-depts. Step-down method (sequential allocation method) allocates support-dept costs to other support departments and to operating departments in a sequential manner that partially recognizes the mutual service provided among all support depts. This method requires support depts to be ranked. Reciprocal method allocates support-dept costs to operating depts by fully recognizing the mutual services provided among all support depts. 1) PM = 6300000+0.1IS; IS = 1452150+0.2PM; to get the number of complete reciprocated costs of PM and IS. 2) allocate the complete reciprocated cost of each support dept to all other depts (support and operating) on the basis of the usage %.

Beginning of the English class system English class system started at the beginning of the medieval period under the rule of William the Conqueror. Barons were responsible directly to the king; lesser lords were directly responsible to a baron. Under them were the peasants, tied by a strict system of mutual duties and obligations to the local lord. They were forbidden to travel without their lords permission. Evolution of Parliament, the Model Parliament The Model Parliament is the English parliament set up in 1295 by Edward I. It was the first Parliament to include representatives from outside the clergy and aristocracy, and was established because Edward needed the support of the whole country against his opponents: Wales, France, and Scotland.
