In war, there are no unwounded soldiers. Jose Narosky If we see a soldier who has returned from the war with no visible injuries we think he got lucky. But in war there is always injuries, even if we can`t see them. This essay will touch upon soldiers who go through death of friends, companions and even enemies which will leave a big hole in their souls, also soldiers who have died in war and have left behind families and in some cases kids who have to grow up with one parent. Not to mention the wounded ones, who will suffer from the actions of the war for the rest of their lives. Firstly, soldiers who go through death of friends, companions and enemies have a big hole in their souls. Seeing death isn`t something you can just forget, it becomes a memory that he doesn`t want to remember. Some soldiers do not have strong nervous system and they can go crazy, s...
War on Terror The War on Terror is an international military campaign led by the United States and the United Kingdom with the support of other NATO and non-NATO countries. Officially, the War on Terror label has not been used since Barack Obama came to office in 2009, but the war in Afghanistan continues. The campaign was launched in 2001 with the US/UK invasion of Afghanistan in response to the September 11 attacks. Since then, other operations have commenced, the largest being the War in Iraq, beginning with a 2003 invasion. Originally, it was waged against al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations with the purpose of eliminating them. The phrase War on Terror was first used by former US President George W. Bush and other high-ranking US officials to denote a global military, political, legal and ideological struggle against organizations designated as terrorist and regimes that were accused of having a ...
Why did Russian civil war breake out in 1918? The Russian Civil War was to tear Russia apart for three years, between 1918 and 1921. The civil war occurred because after November 1917, many groups had formed that opposed Lenin's Bolsheviks. These groups included monarchists, militarists, and, for a short time, foreign nations. Collectively, they were known as the Whites while the Bolsheviks were known as the Reds. But why did it really breake out? There were three reasons why Civil War broke out in Russia in 1918.The first reason was that there was bound to be a challenge to the Bolsheviks, who had seized power by a surprise coup. After 1918, their political opponents tried to reverse it. The Bolsheviks had many enemies. One group who wanted to destroy the Bolsheviks were the Social Revolutionaries. At first, they had supported the November Revolution. Elections had been held in November 1917 for a new government, ...

About Peter I House Museum Emperor Peter I (1672-1725) expanded the borders of the Russian Empire in the course of the Northern War and managed to annex the whole Estonian territory by the year 1710. Therefore the protection of the new border areas became the priority of the ruler and he paid a lot of attention to the reconstruction of ports in Tallinn and Paldiski and visited Tallinn several times. Together with the site of the would-be palace, a summer estate and a 17th-century cottage that had belonged to town councillor von Drenteln were purchased for the emperor's use in 1713. The small cottage was enlarged with a wing and the outcome was a building with a hall, a kitchen and four rooms. The small summer residence was in use until the emperor's death. The succeeding rulers used the Palace of Kadriorg that had been completed only after Peter's death and the small building was neglected. The building was ...

The Fall of the Empire The fall of the British Empire was caused by World War II for two reasons. Firstly, many nations felt that their sacrifice should be rewarded with independence, for example India. Also, the losses to the Japanese destroyed the myth of the European omnipotence. Secondly, heavily in debt to the United States, the United Kingdom was financially exhausted. This left it almost impossible to defend its wider colonies by force. So the vast markets were opened to American companies and to weaken the UK in general. No empire has been larger or more diverse than the British Empire. At its apogee in the 1930s, 42 million Britons governed 500 million foreign subjects. Britannia ruled the waves, and a quarter of the earth's surface was coloured red on the map. Where Britain's writ did not run directly, its influence, sustained by matchless industrial and commercial sinews, was often paramoun...
The Estonian War of Independence The Estonian War of Independence began with the attack of the Red Army of the Soviet Russia on Narva on the 28 November 1918 and lasted until a ceasefire on the 3 January 1920 (juridically until the 2 February 1920). In the War of Independence, Estonia received support from the UK, Finland, Latvia and the White Russian Northwestern Army. In the defence of the independent statehood of Estonia in the battlefield participated at least 130 students and 11 teachers of the Gymnasium for Boys, which was the name for Gustav Adolf Grammar School at that time. Johan Laidoner has said that it was the schoolboys who brought "the belief, that we would win and that is the greatest gift they have given to the Republic during its birth." (point to the list of students on the slide.) The youngest students of our school in the War of Independence were 15 and the oldest, Martin Hendrikson, cele...

The United States of America. History. For thousands of years America was unknown to Europe. There lived only the native people, who had come from Siberia many thousand years ago by a land bridge. They had spread over the country, varying enormously from nomadic food gatherers to fishing societies. Then the Vikings visited Canada around AD 1000, but they did not stay. In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered America while trying to reach India. He named the native people Indians, because he though he had reached India. He didn't stay either and in the sixteenth century the first Europeans to settle in America were the Spanish, the English and the French. The first village founded by the English settlers was in Virginia in 1607. It was called Jamestown. They didn't have good relations with the Indians and many of them died. But Pocahontas, the daughter of an Indian chief, became their friend and helped them....

Themes, Motifs, and Symbols Themes Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work. The Grim Reality of War - As the title of the novel makes clear, A Farewell to Arms concerns itself primarily with war, namely the process by which Frederic Henry removes himself from it and leaves it behind. The few characters in the novel who actually support the effort--Ettore Moretti and Gino--come across as a dull braggart and a naïve youth, respectively. The majority of the characters remain ambivalent about the war, resentful of the terrible destruction it causes, doubtful of the glory it supposedly brings. The novel offers masterful descriptions of the conflict's senseless brutality and violent chaos: the scene of the Italian army's retreat remains one of the most profound evocations of war in American literature. As the neat columns of men begin to crumble, so too do the soldiers' nerves, minds, and cap...

When the Americans withdrawed all of their offers to help Nasser nationalised the Suez canal so that he could use the it's revenues to finance the Aswan High Dam. b) When Nasser nationalised the canal the Brits and the French were outraged because they were the main financiers and shareholders of the Suez Canal. They wanted Nasser destroyed and removed.By August 1956 the British and the French were holding meetings to discuss a possible seizure of the Suez canal by force. The French wanted the Israelis to join their side but it would have been a problem because the Brits had a treaty with Jordan. However, when they found out that Israelis weren't intending to attack Jordan any time soon, the Brits, French and Israelis decided to join their forces against Egypt and started to make plans. Israel would attack Egypt and the...

The Irish Problem ~the Irish can not be trusted~ In 1641, just prior to the Civil War, the Irish of Ulster had begun an uprising and attacked the planters who had been settled 30 years before. Between 10,000 and 15,000 Protestant planters were murdered by the Irish at places such as Portadown. Due to the war, the English did nothing about this and the death-toll became heavily exaggerated over time. In 1649, after the Civil War had ended, Cromwell landed at ...
Pildi kirjeldamine In this picture there is diffrent colour of people hands. They are all diffrent, their all special, they all got skill for something and they all are good people deep in the heart, even if they do not seem like. We might have a diffrent colour of skin but that dose not mean that one is better from others. In this picture, uniting hands from diffrent race is powerful for everybody, you can not see this often. Thats why this picture shows us that all people can be friends if we try and ignore that we are diffrent. We might be diffrent from outside, but we are not diffrent in inside. Estonian War of Independence During World War I the greatest colonial power in Europe the Russian Empire seized to exist. On its ruins the formerly enchained nations founded their own states. Among them was the Estonian Republic, officially declared on February 24, 1918. When Germany surrendered to the Western Allies on November 11, 1918 a strategic vacuum arose in Eastern Europe. The new rulers of Russia the Bolsheviks decided to use it as a proper moment to re-conquer their lost territories. The ultimate goal was international communist revolution and Germany was the first standing on their way. Thus on November 13, 1918 the Government of Soviet Russia denounced peace with Germany. On November 16 the Commander-in-Chief of the Red Army, Jukums Vacietis, gave orders to start a massive attack on a long front from the Gulf of Finland to the Ukraine. On November 28, two divisions of the Red Army (altogether 12,000 troops) crossed...
