Cheetah

Cheetah The cheetah is most famous for its speed. It is the world's fastest land animal, having been known to run at speeds up to 70 mph. However, it is able to sustain this pace for only a short period of time. In order to be able to move this quickly, the cheetah has a slender body, a small head, and long legs that allow it to travel about 24 feet in a single stride when running. It weighs between 90 and 140 pounds, stands at about 36 inches tall, and measures 72 inches in length. Not only is the cheetah's physical shape designed for speed, but it has other special features as well. For instance, the spine of the cheetah is flexible enough to act as a spring when the cheetah runs. It also is the only cat without retractable claws. This allows the claws to always be

Thailand

Thailand The place of my dreams is very far-away from my homeland Estonia. It's the Kingdom of Thailand located in Southeast Asia. To reach there you have first to survive very long and exhausting flight which lasts about 12 hours. But don't worry walking out from the airport makes you easily to forget this, because tropical weather and sunshine never leaves you in Thailand. I have been in Thailand twice, but I haven't visited the capital and also the largest city of Thailand - Bangkok. I have been in the largest island of Thailand - Phuket - which is popular tourists destination because of its beautiful white sandy beaches and palm- trees. The Kingdom of Thailand in general draws more visitors than any other country in Southeast Asia. The population of Thailand is 64 million. The Ssymbols of Thailand are: · The Thailand Flag (which contains of three colours-red, white and blue); · Stubas monuments dedicated to Buddha (stuba-st

RECESSIVE BROWN - THE ENIGMATIC BARRINGTON BROWN GENE Copyright 2010 Sarah Hartwell This page pulls together what is known about Don Shaw's Barrington Brown gene, a form of recessive brown/colour dilution only reliably recorded in a colony of laboratory cats, none of which are believed to have left the laboratory. To make this comprehensible to the non- genetics expert I have referred to "copies of genes" or "versions" of genes although the correct terminology is "alleles". There is also a brief guide to Shaw's terminology at the end as Shaw's writing pre-dated modern "standard" symbols and terminology. Don Shaw was an early feline geneticist in the USA. During the 1950s and 1960s, there was no standard form of genetic coding and Shaw used his own system of genetic coding which

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

The maritime climate is temperate, summers are warm and winters mildly cold, the average annual temperature is 5 degrees Celsius and the average annual precipitation is 550 millimetres. The most important assets of the soil are oil shale, phosphorite and peat. The designation “Aestii” was first mentioned by the Roman historian Tacitus in “Germania” (98 AD). By the end of the first millennium the people of Western Europe referred to the land of our ancestors with the name Estonia (derived from Germanic languages and means East). The Estonians, our Finno-Ugric forefathers settled here in approximately 5,000 BC from northern Russia and the Urals, as fishermen and hunters. They called themselves “rural people”, the term “Estonians” started to spread three centuries ago, taking firm root in the middle of the 19th century. From the 13th century onwards the ancient Estonians had to continually fight

Dey Bared to You RuLit Net

"Thank you," she said, shooting me a quick harried smile. I smiled back. "No problem. I've been there." I'd just squatted to reach a nickel lying near the entrance when I ran into a pair of luxurious black oxfords draped in tailored black slacks. I waited a beat for the man to move out of my way and when he didn't, I arched my neck back to allow my line of sight to rise. The custom three -piece suit hit more than a few of my hot buttons, but it was the tall, powerfully lean body inside it that made it sensational. Still, as hot as all that magnificent maleness was, it wasn't until I reached the man's face that I went down for the count. Wow. Just...wow. He sank into an elegant crouch directly in front of me. Hit with all that exquisite masculinity at eye-level, I could only stare. Stunned. Then something shifted in the air between us. As he stared back, he altered...as if a shield slid away from his eyes, revealing a scorching

This was a stipulation from my mother, so that we could stay in touch easily. The rocking chair from my baby days was still in the corner. There was only one small bathroom at the top of the stairs, which I would have to share with Charlie. I was trying not to dwell too much on that fact. One of the best things about Charlie is he doesn't hover. He left me alone to unpack and get settled, a feat that would have been altogether impossible for my mother. It was nice to be alone, not to have to smile and look pleased; a relief to stare dejectedly out the window at the sheeting rain and let just a few tears escape. I wasn't in the mood to go on a real crying jag. I would save that for bedtime, when I would have to think about the coming morning. So frown'd he once, when, in an angry parle, He smote the sledded Polacks on the ice. 'Tis strange. MARCELLUS Thus twice before, and jump at this dead hour, With martial stalk hath he gone by our watch. HORATIO In what particular thought to work I know not; But in the gross and scope of my opinion, This bodes some strange eruption to our state. MARCELLUS Good now, sit down, and tell me, he that knows, Why this same strict and most observant watch So nightly toils the subject of the land, And why such daily cast of brazen cannon, And foreign mart for implements of war; Why such impress of shipwrights, whose sore task Does not divide the Sunday from the week; What might be toward, that this sweaty haste Doth make the night joint-labourer with the day: Who is't that can inform me? HORATIO That can I; At least, the whisper goes so. Our last king, Whose image even but now appear'd to us, Was, as you know, by Fortinbras of Norway,

American Literature

Drawing upon his travel experiences and his life as a farmer, Crevecoeur was the first to seriously attempt a definition of American character with his Letters. The key word for Crevecoeur was "new," which separated and distinguished Americans from things European. In Letters, Crevecoeur thus blended his collection of facts and observations into a fictional portrait of an industrious farmer, one whose natural response to the land became identified with the general character of a new American people. Yet while Crevecoeur echoed Jefferson, Thomas's agrarian ideals, his letters also acknowledged the realities of frontier savagery and southern slavery. After taking a post as a French consul in 1783, Crevecoeur published little in English, though he did publish a French revision of Letters (1787) and a final book on his American experiences: Voyage dans la Haute Pensylvanie et dans l'état de NewYork (1801).

in girder fashion, flat stones, such as the clapper bridges of Dartmoor in Devon (UK), or festoons of vegetation, twisted or braided and hung in suspension. These three types - beam, arch, and suspension - have been known and built since ancient times and are the origins from which engineers and builders derived various combinations such as the truss, cantilever, cable-stayed, tied- arch, and moveable spans. The essential difference among types is the way they bear their own weight - the "dead load" and the "live load" - a person, the railway train, wind, or snow that is applied to the bridge. The weight of beam, truss, and girder bridges bears directly downwards from their ends on the ground, piers, or abutments. Arch bridges thrust outwards as well as downwards, acting in compression. The cables of suspension bridges act in tension, pulling inwards against their anchorages.
