Kristel Sepp TIK IB 09.10.09 "You can never go home again" "Lord of the flies" The quote "You can never go home again" is related to "Lord of the flies" in both literal and metaphorical sense. Luckily most of the boys could go home in a literal sense but unfortunately some of them were dead by the time rescuers came to save them. When boys were left on the island alone the savages inside them started to appear and there were few quite good reasons for that. The experience on the island changed all of them and when they were finally rescued everyone went home as sort of different persons.

There are also smaller herds of musk oxen. Wolves, wolverines, arctic foxes, and polar bears are the predators of the tundra. Smaller mammals are snowshoe rabbits and lemmings. There aren't many different species of insects in the tundra, but black flies, deer flies, mosquitoes and "no-see-ums" (tiny biting midges) can make the tundra a miserable place to be in the summer. Mosquitoes can keep themselves from freezing by replacing the water in their bodies with a chemical called glycerol. It works like an antifreeze and allows them to survive under the snow during the winter. The marshy tundra is a great place for migratory birds like the harlequin duck, sandpipers and plovers. Most young people go there with a group of friends. They work for some time and then start to spend earned money. They drive around, try new things and party a lot. Some young settle down there and start their own family. Some get new acquaintances and even work themselves up and get rich. Living in Australia isn't very expensive, some young stay even in a hotel. But living style and culture are different. This difference and distance attracts young like honey flies. Australia is many times bigger than Estonia. And that also means more opportunities, in many different fields. In Estonia there is quite hard to find or get a job, you need to have experience. But experience is exactly what young people don't have. Last summer I didn't get a job because every where they asked if I have experience. Also in Estonia we have cousin policy, if your relative works somewhere, then it's easier for you to get a job. If you're working in Estonia you don't make a lot

disease, leaving a scar, while in others the disease becomes chronic (Postma et al., 2007). Prevention and transmission. IBK caused by Moraxella bovis depends on both host and environmental factors. These bacteria are very resistant, so bacteria can remain on the farm probably in carrier animals from year to year. The susceptibility of Moraxella bovis is increased by factors such as high stocking density, close confinement of animals in barns, host immune system, the presence of flies, Moraxella bovis strain, movement of stock through long grass, ultraviolet solar radiation, pasture conditions and stress factors (Postma et al., 2007). Research have shown 4 that Moraxella bovis infection is growing step by step in spring and summer, when the there are highest values of ultraviolet radiation. The only known reservoir for Moraxella bovis are cattle (Brown et al., 1998)

obey the laws and moral rules. In general, morality is a form of social control. As long as most of us follow the rules and cooperate, our lives are good. So in other words it is all about the majority - as long as the great number of people accept this, the humankind will be in prosper. Without morality the world would be an unbearable place and people would be miserable, lonely, unsatisfied and afraid. A great novel about morality and its effect is Lord of the Flies by William Golding (1945). This piece of work is a good example of a society without rules are moral values. In this book a group of boys end up on a desert island and they do not obey the rules anymore. At first the boys are happy to be out of the adult world, but soon they face a total chaos. So they create some kind of system that only one may talk at a time and they also choose a leader for themselves (democratically). Their system fails as 2 boys start to compete

The magnificent Gothic Revival masterpiece you see today was built between 1840 and 1888, this was the work of Charles Barry who designed the buildings to blend with nearby Westminster Abbey. The two imposing towers, well known landmarks in London, are the clock tower, named after it's bell called Big Ben, and Victoria tower, on whose flag pole the Union Jack flies when parliament is sitting. Most of the tourists think that Big Ben is the tower, but Big Ben is only a clock, which was built in 1858 to 1859. It is probably named, after Sir Benjamin Hall, the first Commissioner of Works. Big Ben is very heavy. It weights over 13 tons. The clock mechanism, alone, weights about 5 tons. The figures on the clock face are about 2 feet long. Charles Barry's design incorporated a clock tower. The dials were to be thirty
a ragged resistance movement forms. Random acts of sabotage occur against soldiers and the coal mine. The invaders, under orders from above, impose repressive measures to keep the production going. Their commander follows his order knowing that, in fact, there is little hope of stopping the sabotage for more than a few days at a time. The conquerors say of themselves and their futile efforts to defeat the undefeated motivation of the townspeople, "The flies have conquered the flypaper!" Soon, all semblance of harmony is ended. The occupiers feel isolated and surrounded by hate. Coal production grinds to a halt due mostly to the fact that "Allied" planes have been dropping sticks of dynamite for the people to use to sabotage railroads, food supplies, power sources, and the mine itself. And as several of the invaders are murdered, they begin to realize that their hopes to be accepted as good men bringing a glorious New Order are coming to naught

after attempting to see Juliet one last time. Just after Romeo leaves Juliet's bedroom unseen, Capulet enters to tell the news to his daughter that he has arranged for her to marry Paris in three days' time, to console her perceived mourning for Tybalt, although it is in fact Romeo's exile that she mourns. Juliet is unwilling to enter this arranged marriage, telling her parents that she will not marry, and when she does, "it shall be Romeo, whom I know you hate." Capulet flies into a rage and threatens to disown her if she refuses the marriage. The Nurse tells Juliet that she should leave Romeo and just marry Paris, leaving only one person supporting her marriage to Romeo, Friar Lawrence. Juliet visits Lawrence and tells him to either find a solution to her problem or she will commit suicide. Friar Lawrence, being a dabbler in herbal medicines and potions, gives Juliet a potion and a plan: the potion will put her into a death-like coma for "two and forty hours"

You can see one of them on the south-west corner of the castle -it´s Pikk Hermann – quite a slender (considering the average thickness of the walls – 2,9 m) 49-metre watch-tower from the year 1371. The tower consists of ten internal floors and a viewing platform at the top with a 215-step staircase leading to it. It’s commonly recognised that whoever’s flag flies on top of this tower is the ruler of Estonia. The Estonian flag was flown here in 1884, 34 years before the country was to become independent. Subsequent conquerors always marked their success by raising a flag here. Thus both German and Soviet flags have been seen there. Today the national tricolor is hoisted at sunrise (but not earlier than 7 am) and lowered at sunset (but not later than 10pm), except at midsummer when it´s not lowered at all on the night of June 23/24.

- things don't happen spontaneously, every action that nature takes is for the sake of something, everything has a purpose - where a series has a completion, all the previous steps are done for the sake of that - art partly competes with and imitates nature - animals and plants do things for the sake of an end - plants grow leaves to provide shade for fruit - has roots downwards for nourishment - spiders have a web to catch flies Bacon - argues against Aristotle and his theory of syllogism (deduction) - Deduction: All men are mortal - Socrates is a man - Therefore, Socrates is mortal - deduction from self-evident axioms had led to little or no new scientific knowledge - it only leads to what we already knew or confuses us to make false assumptions - to understand nature properly an empirical method (based on observation) is needed

Prokarüootidel ja viirustel esineb mitmesuguseid osalise geneetilise rekombinatsiooni protsesse. Balancer Chromosomes are special, modified chromosomes used for genetically screening a population of organisms to select for heterozygotes. Balancer chromosomes can be used as a genetic tool used to prevent crossing over (genetic recombination) between homologous chromosomes during meiosis. Balancers are most often used in Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) genetics to allow populations of flies carrying heterozygous mutations to be maintained without constantly screening for the mutations but can also be used in mice.[1] Balancer chromosomes have three important properties: they suppress recombination with their homologs, carry dominant markers, and negatively affect reproductive fitness when carried homozygously. 7.3.
