Charles Dickens Charles John Huffam Dickens was the foremost English novelist of the Victorian era, as well as a vigorous social campaigner. Considered one of the English language's greatest writers, he was acclaimed for his rich storytelling and memorable characters, and achieved massive worldwide popularity in his lifetime. Charles Dickens was born in Landport, Portsmouth in Hampshire, the second of eight children to John Dickens n 7 February 1812. The 12-year-old Dickens began working ten hour days in a Warren's boot-blacking factory. In May 1827, Dickens began work in the office of Ellis and Blackmore as a law clerk. At the age of seventeen, he became a court stenographer and, in 1830, met his first love, Maria Beadnell. Alice Kipling Fleming - Sister of British author Rudyard Kipling who became a well-known psychic, producing automatic writing under the name "Mrs. Holland." Born June 11, 1868, Alice Kipling was privately educated. She went to India at age 16 and married British army officer John Fleming. While in India she wrote a number of poems, and in 1893 initially experimented with automatic writing. After a long illness she returned to England in 1902 and in the following year read the classic study Human Personality and Its Survival of Bodily Death, by F. W. H. Myers. As a result she contacted the secretary of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR), London, regarding her own automatic writing. She was one of the seven principal mediums involved in the famous cross-correspondences cases. Fleming continued to do automatic writing until 1910, when she suffered a nervous breakdown. Early Life

"Merde Actually" has one main character whose name is Paul West, but there are also many other significant characters, that come from the previous book "A Year in the Merde". I can say that it would be better to read the first book of this series first, other wise some jokes and thoughts might stay incomprehensible. This novel starts with a description of how and where Paul West is going with his girlfriend Florence. I read a book called „Oliver Twist“ which is written by Charles Dickens. It was first published in 1837. The scenery of the book takes place in the 18th century England. The main character of the story is Oliver. The story starts with Oliver’s mother giving birth to Oliver and she herself dies after giving birth. No one knew who was Oliver’s father, so he grew up in a workhouse. In 8 years, he was moved to a different workhouse, because he was too old to keep living in the same one he lived in before. In the workhouse children have to work all day while they are starving. One day after finishing their food, some boys including Oliver decide to cast lots and whoever loses has to go and ask for more food. Oliver loses and he goes to ask, but gets denied and punished for asking for more food. Next day, an advertisement was put

due to that, the monster kills Victor's wife. He then escapes and Victor starts to look for him. The reach to the North Pole where Victor meets Robert Walton. He tells the story to Walton and asks him if he could kill the monster for him. Victor dies and soon Walton manages to talk to the monster. The story ends with the monster sailing away on an ice shelf. I really enjoyed reading this book because I adore horror movies and ghost books. It was deep, touching, sad and exciting. I believe that Mary Shelley tried to show that we should not judge people by their appearance and that we should look in the person's character deeper. The society should be more tolerant and kind. Luckily nowadays this is not such a big problem as it used to be. I liked the eloquent writing style and the authors' ability to put real emotions into the story. It made me feel empathic sometimes for Victor and sometimes for the monster

Costaguana has a long history of tyranny, revolution and warfare, but has recently experienced a period of stability under the dictator Ribiera. Charles Gould is a native Costaguanero of English descent who owns an important silver-mining concession near the key port of Sulaco. He is tired of the political instability in Costaguana and its concomitant corruption, and uses his wealth to support Ribiera's government, which he believes will finally bring stability to the country after years of misrule and tyranny by self-serving dictators. Instead, Gould's refurbished silver mine and the wealth it has generated inspires a new round of revolutions and self-proclaimed warlords, plunging Costaguana into chaos. Young people make beautiful cards and give them to friends. Needless to say, it's particularly young people who looked forward to St. Valentine's Day, hoping to receive many cards. Originally hand-made and decorated with pictures of hearts, flowers, birds and lots of lace, they are traditionally sent anonymously, even going so far as to disguise handwriting or posting in another town. The modern Valentine card is big business and shops selling greetings cards will start stocking up soon after Christmas. There is still a large market for the flowery, sentimental card, but many modern cards tend to the "cute" style and there is always a market for the humorous insult. On Valentine's Day children organize parties. They decorate dance halls with paper hearts and with red balloons. There can make photos with you're friend. Students play different games and sing Valentine's songs. Often children are dressed to red or pink, because these are Valentine's colours.
