The group came to be perceived as the embodiment of progressive ideals, seeing their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s. With an early five-piece line-up of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe (bass) and Pete Best (drums), The Beatles built their reputation in Liverpool and Hamburg clubs over a three-year period from 1960. Sutcliffe left the group in 1961, and Best was replaced by Starr the following year. Moulded into a professional outfit by music store owner Brian Epstein after he offered to act as the group's manager, and with their musical potential enhanced by the hands-on creativity of producer George Martin, The Beatles achieved UK mainstream success in late 1962 with their first single, "Love Me Do". Gaining international popularity over the course of the next year, they toured extensively until 1966, then retreated to the recording studio until their breakup in 1970

There are different kinds of sports. For instance, there are sports meant for playing indoors, some can be practised only at a certain time of year. There are winter and summer sports also. But while there can be little doubt about the footballing credentials and steely will of a man who has won nine national league titles in 15 seasons with four teams in Spain 1 and Italy as well as the European Champions League, his penchant for dropping clangers and expressing robust political views have already generated headlines. His most high-profile scrape came last year when he told the Rome- based La Repubblica newspaper that he admired the "legacy of order" left by General Franco, whose regime presided over the execution or murder of 200,000 people. Speaking after he returned to Italy from managing Real Madrid, Capello said: "In Madrid, I breathed a sparkling atmosphere, the air of a country in Europe making the greatest progress. disarray would guarantee a quick victory. The U.S., having decided that an Iranian victory would not serve its interests, began supporting Iraq. In 1984 the U.S restored full diplomatic relations with Iraq. At same time U.S. began sharing intelligence and selling weapons to Iran. In 1986 the USA increased the aid to Iraq. In early 1988, Iraq's relations with the United States were generally friendly. In the end of 1988 the Center for Strategic and International Studies began a 2 year study predicting the outcome of a war between U.S and Iraq, at the same time Saddam Hussein announced $40 billion plan to peacefully rebuild Iraq. By October 1989, when all international banks had cut off loans to Iraq, the president of the U.S. George H. W. Bush signed National Security Directive (NSD) 26, mandating closer links with Iraq and $1 billion in agricultural loan guarantees. These guarantees freed for Iraq hard cash to continue buying and developing the weapons of mass destruction.

in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. In How to Marry a Millionaire, Monroe was teamed up with Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable. She played a short-sighted dumb blonde, and though the role was stereotypical, critics took note of her comedic timing.[28] Her next two films, the western River of No Return and the musical There's No Business Like Show Business, were not successful. Monroe eventually got tired of the roles that Zanuck assigned her. After completing work on The Seven Year Itch in early 1955, she broke her contract and fled Hollywood to study acting with Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio in New York.[5] Fox would not accede to her contract demands and insisted she return to work on productions she considered inappropriate, such as The Girl in Pink Tights (which was never filmed), The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing, and How to Be Very, Very Popular. sustainable foundation. For years Russia provided Ukraine with underpriced gas while Ukraine's export prices increased rapidly. Over the decades Ukraine, however, grew dependent on oil and gas coming from Russia, at almost no cost. Today, 70 percent of gas consumed in the country is imported. In 1991 Ukraine was one of the poorest Soviet republics. Statistics for the time are notoriously uncertain, but the best ones available show Ukraine's GDP at just $1,307 per capita. Only Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan lagged behind Ukraine; even Moldova and Turkmenistan, generally regarded as very poor Soviet republics, were ahead of Ukraine. Ukraine's economy contracted annually between 9.7 and 22.7 percent in 19911996. The country experienced hyperinflation and an exceptionally huge production decline for a country not ravaged by a major war. Official GDP collapsed by almost half from 1990 to 1994, and slow decline continued throughout the decade

It is one of the official languages of the United Nations. According to research by the British Council, around 375 million people in the world speak English as their native language and English has official or special status in at least seventy-five countries. The British Council has also noted that English is the main language of newspapers, airports and air-traffic control, international business and academic conferences, science, technology, diplomacy and sport. Perhaps even more important contributor to the dominant role of the English language in the world is that over two-thirds of the world's scientists are able to read in English. Three quarters of the world's mail is written in English and eighty per cent of the world's electronic information is stored in English. The biggest countries where English is spoken as the first language are: Great Britain, Canada, United States of America and Australia.

Games Programming with Java and Java 3D

Knowing which version of Java you are using is important, especially when executing applets. Many browsers, such as Netscape 6 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 default to a JVM at version 1.1 unless the user configures things differently. The speed-up in Java is mostly due to improvements in compiler design. The Hotspot technology introduced in J2SE 1.3 enables the run-time system to identify crucial areas of code that are utilised many times, and these are aggressively compiled. Hotspot technology is relatively new, and it's quite likely that future versions of Java 6 Games Programming with Java and Java 3D will find further speed-ups. The Hotspot technology has the unfortunate side-effect that program execution is often slow at the beginning until the code has been analyzed and compiled. A final point about speed is knowing what to blame when a Java program runs slowly.

launched by Sigismund, the Holy Roman emperor, during the Battle of Vítkov Hill. In the 1420s a split developed in the Hussite ranks between radical Taborites, who advocated total war on Catholics, and moderate Utraquists, who consisted mainly of nobles who were more concerned with transforming the Church. In 1434 the Utraquists agreed to accept Sigismund's rule in return for religious tolerance; the Taborites kept fighting, only to be defeated in the same year at the Battle of Lipany. Following Sigismund's death, George of Podbrady (Jií z Podbrad) ruled as Bohemia's one and only Hussite king, from 1452 to 1471, with the backing of Utraquist forces. He was centuries ahead of his time in suggesting a European council to solve international problems by diplomacy rather than war, but he couldn't convince the major European rulers or the pope. After George's death two weak kings from the Polish Jagiellonian dynasty ruled Bohemia,

Imagine trying to learn to draw from listening to a lecture. You must draw, draw, draw, and with time and tutoring, will improve. This is a truism, just like saying "reading is valuable." I imagine nobody complains about children spending too much time working. If anything the contrary complaint rings loudly. What I don't begin to know is the ideal breakdown, according to age, of reading, listening to instruction, and working or hands-on time. What about technology in excess? Before the age of printing and cheap paper, comparatively few people could become learned. Now, theoretically, our electronic age makes learning easier than ever. Well, technology is indisputably better. We can store and retrieve data much more efficiently. We can communicate in a flash. But still, at the basic level, we must be well grounded -- we must possess common sense, civil manners, frank discussion skills, reasoning abilities, and moral fiber

following the Umayyad Caliphate conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in 711 until 1249 with the taking of the Algarve by King Afonso III of Portugal during the Reconquista. After beating the Visigoths in only a few months, the Umayyad Caliphate started expanding rapidly in the peninsula. Beginning in 711, the land that is now Portugal became part of the vast Umayyad Caliphate's empire of Damascus that stretched from the Indus river in India up to the South of France until its collapse in 750, a year in which the west of the empire gained its independence under Abd-ar-Rahman I with the creation of the Emirate of Córdoba. After almost two centuries, the Emirate turned into the Caliphate of Córdoba in 929 until its dissolution a century later in 1031 to no less than 23 small kingdoms, called Taifa kingdoms. specific environments. Major considerations are: 1) firm placement of seed near moist soil, 2) absence of green vegetation during emergence, 3) maintaining an option to cultivate and 4) reduce the risk of soil erosion. B. Seeding Date: Sunflower can be planted at a wide range of dates, as most cultivars are earlier in maturity than the length of growing season in most areas. In areas of the world with no winters, sunflower has been planted at any month of the year to obtain satisfactory yields. In northern regions, highest yields and oil percentages are obtained by planting early - as soon after the spring-sown small grain crops as possible. In the northern midwest and Canada this is often May 1 through 20 and mid-March through early April in the southern USA. Resistance to frost damage decreases as the seedlings develop into the 6leaf stage, so too-early sowings in the northern USA or Canada can be risky.

. Ülesande vastu võtnud: Tanel Friedenthal ………………………. Abstract How are 3D and BIM Changing the Design, Fabrication and Construction of Complex Steel Structures? The adoption of three-dimensional (3D) design and construction tools have created a remarkable shift in the building industry. Intelligent 3D technology in the form of Building Information Modeling (BIM) not only promises to improve the notoriously inefficient construction process, but also opens the door for designing new geometric shapes, which until recently have been considered unbuildable. Steel has been extensively used to build some of the most challenging architectural icons of the 21st century, due to its low weight and high strength in both compression and tension. Therefore, the steel

We are always ready to make excuses about the inventions and products our people have perfected in long gone eras, but which have been stolen from us, and the ones who stole them have gone on to become very rich. This is nothing but an excuse for our failures.
