Short and long term effects of alcohol

Short and long term effects of alcohol Good morning. My name is NIMI. I'm going to talk about short and long term effects of alcohol consumption. Firstly I'll tell you about short term effects and then move on to long term effects. My presentation will take about 5 minutes. If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask them afterwards. Firstly I would focus on the short term effects of alcohol consumption. The amount and circumstances of alcohol consumption play a large part in determining the extent of intoxication; for instance, consuming alcohol after a heavy meal causes alcohol to absorb more slowly. Hydration also plays a role as for determining the extent of hangovers. Initially, alcohol produces feelings of relaxation and cheerfulness, but as a result of further consumption blurred vision and coordination problems generally occure. As far as cell

with concentration, or just feeling awful. These symptoms are relieved by the next cigarette. Most smokers need to smoke regularly to feel normal and to prevent nicotine withdrawal symptoms. So once you start smoking it is very hard to quit. But why is smoking so harmful? Cigarettes have tar in them which contains many chemicals. These deposit in the lungs and can get into the blood vessels and are carried to other parts of the body. Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including over 50 known carcinogens (causes of cancer) and other poisons. In addition to different kinds of cancer (mouth, nose, throat, larynx, gullet, pancreas, bladder, cervix, blood, and kidney) it also may cause heart diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, fasten your ageing and have impact on your fertility. There are also other conditions where smoking often causes worse symptoms. For example: asthma, flu, chest infections,

Drugs and how they affect your health.

You've probably heard that drugs are bad for you, but what does that mean and why are they bad? Medicines Are Legal Drugs If you've ever been sick and had to take medicine, you already know about one kind of drugs. Medicines are legal drugs, meaning doctors are allowed to prescribe them for patients, stores can sell them, and people are allowed to buy them. But it's not legal, or safe, for people to use these medicines any way they want. Cigarettes and Alcohol Cigarettes and alcohol are two other kinds of legal drugs. (In Estonia, adults 18 can buy cigarettes and alcohol.) But smoking and excessive drinking are not healthy for adults and off limits for kids. Nicotine is the drug in tobacco leaves. Whether someone smokes, chews, or sniffs tobacco, he or she is delivering nicotine to the brain. Each cigarette contains about 10 milligrams of nicotine. Nicotine is what keeps people smoking despite its harmful effects. Because the

Should advertisements promoting alcohol be banned?

Should advertisements promoting alcohol be banned? Nowadays lots of people drink alcoholic drinks. While I think that drinking alcoholic drinks is up to every person himself, I am strongly opposed to advertisements promoting alcohol. Firstly, seeing, for example, a cold bottle of beer with water drops on it on TV is very tempting. It looks so beautiful and fresh and that makes you think that you have to buy it. Usually people do not think that it looks good only on TV and those drinks are harmful for health. Furthermore, advertisements promoting alcohol show that drinking alcohol makes people cooler and parties better. In these advertisements all the people are smiling,

Bullying

BULLYING Bullying is a very big problem in almost every school. When bullying goes out of the limit, it might end with a terrible gunfire(Colombian massacre). I believe everyone have been bullied by someone and have been a bully for a once. Bullying is an issue that is very important in nowadays and needs a special attention. Some of the ways to bully other people are by: calling you names, making things up to get you into trouble, hitting, pinching, biting and pushing, taking things away from you, damaging your belongings, stealing your money, taking your friends away from you. Now, to talk about why people bully someone there are many aspects. Some bullies do it to get attention or to make other people afraid of them. Others might be jealous of the person they are bullying

Topic - Health

Health 2007 1. Introduction Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of an organism at both the cellular and social level. In the medical field, health is commonly defined as an organism's ability to succesfully respond to challenges and effectively restore and keep a so-called ,,state of balance". 2. History · Early hospitals During the Middle Ages the hospital could serve other functions, such as an almshouse for the poor, or hostel for pilgrims. In ancient cultures, religion and medicine were linked. The earliest known institutions aiming to provide cure were Egyptian temples. Greek temples dedicatedto the healer-god, might admit the sick, who would wait for guidance from the god in a dream. The Romans adopted this worship. The Sri Lankans are perhaps responsible for introducing theconcept ofdedicated hospitals to the world

People these days are thinking less and drinking more

"People these days are thinking less and drinking more'' Nowadays, alcoholism is rising and this is a big problem not only amongst teenagers but also amongst adults. When there is a problem or a difficult situation people do not think how can they solve it. They think, "Where is my bottle of vodka?'' There are several possible solutions to this problem. What clearly needs to be done is to encourage people to handle their problems without using alcohol. Firstly, we have to teach them that thinking clearly is more effective than thinking

Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde Formaldehyde is a colorless, flammable gas at room temperature. It has a pungent, distinct odor and may cause a burning sensation to the eyes, nose, and lungs at high concentrations. Formaldehyde is also known as methanal, methylene oxide, oxymethylene, methylaldehyde, and oxomethane. Formaldehyde can react with many other chemicals, and it will break down into methanol (wood alcohol) and carbon monoxide at very high temperatures. Formaldehyde is naturally produced in very small amounts in our bodies as a part of our normal, everyday metabolism and causes us no harm. It can also be found in the air that we breathe at home and at work, in the food we eat, and in some products that we put on our skin. A major source of formaldehyde that we breathe every day is found in smog in the lower atmosphere. Automobile

The term Dioxin is commonly used to refer to a family of toxic chemicals that all share a similar chemical structure and a common mechanism of toxic action. Most dioxins and furans are not manmade or produced intentionally, but are created when other chemicals or products are made. This family includes: seven of the polychlorinated dibenzo dioxins (PCDDs), ten of the polychlorinated dibenzo furans (PCDFs) and twelve of the polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). · PCDD · 2,3,7,8TCDD · PCDF · PCB · PCDDs and PCDFs are not commercial chemical products but are trace level unintentional byproducts of most forms of combustion and several industrial chemical processes. Brazil's national drinks

Cachaça is Brazil's most common distilled alcoholic beverage. While both rum and cachaça are made from sugarcane-derived products, most rum is made from molasses. Specifically with cachaça, the alcohol results from the fermentation of sugarcane juice that is afterwards distilled. The caipirinha is a national cocktail of Brazil, and is enjoyed in restaurants, bars, and many households throughout the country. Once almost unknown outside Brazil, the drink has become more popular and more widely available in recent years, in large part due to the rising availability of first-rate brands of cachaça outside Brazil. The International Bartenders Association has designated it as one of their Official Cocktails. Caipirinha's are easy to make. All you need is a little cachaca, a lime or tow and some cane sugar (plain sugar will be fine as well). Make this drink in a lowball glass, or any other glass available. Cachaça

The Role of the Hippie Movement in 21st Century Britain

Hippies were often vegetarian and believed in eco friendly environmental practices. They championed free love and sexual liberation, particularly for women. They also promoted the use of psychedelic drugs which they believed expanded their consciousness. Hippies participated in alternative arts and street theater and listened to folk music and psychedelic rock as part of their anti-establishment lifestyle. Some hippies lived in communes or aggregated communities of other hippies. It kinda identifies with the famous “yolo” (You only live once) thinking. I’m not exactly sure if this can be put under the role of hippie movement in 21st century, but if I start to think about this, it is almost the same. Hippies in 1960’s used different drugs etc to expand their counsciousness; today’s (not only) hipsters use also drugs and alcohol to relax and get away from reality. This generation is a return to the hippie era. Among a select group of mostly college-

Caffeine

Caffeine is naturally 6 produced by several plants, including coffee beans, guarana, yerba maté, cacao beans, and tea. 7 For the plants, caffeine acts as a natural pesticide. It paralyzes and kills insects that attempt to 8 feed on the plants. The molecule was first isolated by the German chemist Friedrich Ferdinand 9 Runge in 1819. 10 When purified, caffeine is an intensely bitter white powder. It is added to colas and other soft 11 drinks to impart a pleasing bitter note. However, caffeine is also an addictive stimulant. In 12 humans, it stimulates the central nervous system, heart rate, and respiration, has psychotropic 13 (mood altering) properties, and acts as a mild diuretic. 14 A normal dose of caffeine is generally considered to be 100 mg, which is roughly the amount 15 found in a cup of coffee. However, more than half of all American adults consume more than 300

Decriminalizing Cannabis in Estonia

Cannabis, as a soft drug, is criminalized in Estonia and that fact leads people to go after stronger drugs because by the law they are on the same scale. The popularity of “China white” is growing in Estonia, as it is so easily accessible, but so does the mortality rate because it is very easy to overdose on fentanyl. Estonia should re- form its drug policy because stricter laws and punishments do not change society for the better and current drug policy is not showing any positive effect either. The reason why Estonia should consider decriminalizing cannabis is that the history of decriminalizing cannabis has shown us that the use of narcotics has gone down. Great examples for that are the Netherlands and Portugal. Portugal decriminalized all narcotics in 2001 and decided to treat possession and use of small quantities of drugs as a public health issue, not a criminal one (Ingraham, The Washington Post 2015). It has had a major effect on

It is because the communication is designed in such a way that it appeals to a larger demographic segment. The test of a good mass communication marketing drive is to see if it gets the people talking. If it does, then not only does it mean that the advertising drive has been successful, but the organization in charge of the mass communication is also getting publicity by the word-of-mouth channel! Mass Media Influence It is hard to argue with the fact that mass media has a compelling effect on the human mind. Especially on minds which are more impressionable. For example, the mass media influence on children is understandably higher than it is in adults. So how exactly does mass media influence us? Mass Media Influence on Youth There is a burgeoning need amongst the youth to be accepted as a part of a group, to be popular, to have friends and relationships with people of the opposite sex etc. Mass media experts understand this need of the people and hence they come out with

Introduction The human body is just like a machine with many parts. Each part has a special job, and all the parts work together to keep you alive and healthy. Good health is one of the most important things in life. There are certain things we can do to stay healthy. We should eat a balanced diet that includes the right kinds of food and drink plenty of clean, fresh water. We should exercise regularly, strengthening our muscles and keeping us in shape. Exercise helps the blood circulate around our bodies, cleaning out waste and supplying plenty of oxygen. It is also important what we get enough sleep. The number of hours we sleep we need depend on our age. Young babies sleep for 20-22 hours each day, whereas older people often need only 6-7 hours. 2.1 Early hospitals

Indigenous cookery traditional South African cuisine In the precolonial period, indigenous cuisine was characterized by the use of a very wide range of fruits, nuts, bulbs, leaves and other products gathered from wild plants and by the hunting of wild game. The domestication of cattle in the region about two thousand years ago by Khoisan groups enabled the use of milk products and the availability of fresh meat. However, during the colonial period the seizure of communal land in South Africa restricted and discouraged traditional agriculture and wild harvesting, and reduced the extent of land available to black people. As the consciousness of human beings developed, flowers were most likely the first thing they came to value that had no utilitarian purpose for them, that is to say, was not linked in some way to survival. They provided inspiration to countless artists, poets, and mystics. Jesus tells us to contemplate the flowers and learn from then how to live. The Buddha is said to have given a “silent sermon” once during which he held up a flower and gazed at it. After a while, one of those present, a monk called Mahakasyapa, began to smile. He is said to have been the only one who had understood the sermon. According to legend, that smile (that is to say, realization) was handed down by twenty- eight successive masters and much later became the origin of Zen. Consignments of item(s) not exceeding a total intrinsic value of 22 may be imported without payment of VAT. The practical effect of the different monetary limits is that consignments where the intrinsic value is between 22.01 and 150 will qualify for relief from Customs Duty but VAT will still be chargeable. Being clean is also very important. We feel and look better if we are clean. A person should have a shower a day to keep himself clean. Keeping oneself clean includes brushing our teeth. What we eat also affects our health. Our body needs vitamins and minerals, fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Our food should be varied. It is not healty to eat too much sweets. When we eat more food and get more calories than our body uses, we get fat. It is also good for our health to drink a few glasses of fresh water every day. To prevent diseases we should also have regular check-ups with the doctor and the dentist. History Human beings have suffered from diseases since they first appeared on Earth. Because of that medicines history is as old as human beings, meaning about 2.5 million years. During this time the monks did not eat, drink or speak and were exposed to cold, autumn weather. About 48 hours later they started to have hallucinations, often about their ancestors. The researchers took blood samples from the monks before the ceremony and immediately after the monks reported seeing hallucinations. They found that serotonin levels had increased in their brains. Serotonin activated the hypothalamus and the frontal cortex resulting in hallucinations. They concluded from this study that sensory deprivation triggered the
