Roald Dahl Roald Dahl was born on September 13, 1916 in Llandaff, South Wales. In 1953, he published the best-selling story collection ''Someone Like You'' and married actress Patricia Neal. I started wondering about certain parts like when he told his sister that he wanted to be, if it was possibe, a somekind of catcher in the rye who catches playing children to protect them for falling down from a cliff. As the titel of the book is catcher in the rye the autor certainly wanted to make a significant point. Like many others who have read the book, I think that by `` saving children from falling `` he wanted to save children from growing up too fast and loseing their innocence in the process. But actually the one who really needed saving was himself. I dont really understand what the autor wanted to say with the book. The variety of ways to understand catcher in the rye is one of the strenghts of this book. I also liked that the characters and the settings were quite realistic. I would highly recommend this book even though it's probably not for everyone because it
