History of London 2

In 1829 and the force gained the nickname of "bobbies" or "peelers" named after Robert Peel. 19: When did the first railway to be built in London open? The first railway to be built in London was the London and Greenwich Railway a short line from London Bridge to Greenwich, which opened in 1836. 20: What effects did the railways have on London? A new network of metropolitan railways allowed for the development of suburbs in neighboring counties from which middle-class and wealthy people could commute to the centre. While this spurred the massive outward growth of the city, the growth of greater London also exacerbated the class divide, as the wealthier classes emigrated to the suburbs, leaving the poor to inhabit the inner city areas.

My dream home

There are many spacious rooms in my house that are in well-lit and pastel tones. There are a living room, a kitchen and lightly coloured guest room on the ground floor. On the first floor there is also a living room, two nurseries, a toilet and a study with a bookshelf that covers the entire wall. I would hang pictures of my travelles on the walls, so it's easier to talk about my trips to my friends and family. As I'm the quiet type I would like to have the house in the suburbs. I think it would be nice if it were to be a gated community.

There has been a lot written lately about the "creative class." The thesis seems to be that as wealth derives increasingly from ideas, cities will prosper only if they attract those who have them. That is certainly true; in fact it was the basis of Amsterdam's prosperity 400 years ago. A lot of nerd tastes they share with the creative class in general. For example, they like well-preserved old neighborhoods instead of cookie-cutter suburbs, and locally-owned shops and restaurants instead of national chains. Like the rest of the creative class, they want to live somewhere with personality. What exactly is personality? I think it's the feeling that each building is the work of a distinct group of people. A town with personality is one that doesn't feel mass-produced. So if you want to make a startup hub-- or any town to attract the "creative class"-- you probably have to ban large development projects

Present Day Today the Aborigines are in trouble. Many have left the their traditional lifestyle, and have moved to suburbs. There is a 40% unemployment rate in many Aborigines populations, in part because Aborigines are widely discriminated against which causes some people not to hire them. Even the police and government discriminate against aborigines. In many places bars are segregated into different parts for Aborigines or Aborigines aren't served at all. Until recently the survival of the wooden quarters was threatened by unclear ownership in the years following independence and in a general indifference to the qualities they offered residents. This latter could be seen in a lack of maintenance, and inappropriate upgrading and repair approaches. Today however the situation is turned around and these wooden

Some Australians and particularly tourists often have their Christmas dinner at midday on a local beach, Bondi Beach in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs attracts thousands of people on Christmas Day. Other families enjoy their day by having a picnic. If they are at home, the day is punctuated by swimming in a pool, playing Cricket out the backyard, and other outdoor activities. The city is also the fourth most populous urban area in Australia. The metropolitan area is located in the south west of the continent between the Indian Ocean and a low coastal escarpment known as the Darling Range. The central business district and suburbs of Perth are situated on the Swan River. Founded in 1829 by Captain James Stirling as the political centre of the free settler Swan River Colony, Perth has continued to serve as the seat of Government for Western Australia to the present day. On 2 and 3 September, the Great Fire of London destroyed much of the centre of London. At about the same time, the plague outbreak tapered off. Although, it is now thought that the Plague had died off before the Great Fire of London and also the majority of plague cases were found in the suburbs of the city and not in the centre of London that was affected by the Fire. Wooden apartment buildings with their individual scale and intimacy offer interesting opportunities to establish a unique home in many modern towns. Today we consider old wooden apartment buildings to be an important part of our cultural heritage. Every year adds more value and dignity to these old dwellings. True, a respectful attitude to wooden architecture is only a phenomenon of the last couple of decades. During Soviet times, wooden apartment buildings were generally not valued and wooden suburbs were not considered worthy of preservation. Many building were neglected and therefore, many wooden apartment buildings are in a very bad condition today. Also, the modern demands for living environments and the perception of a comfortable home is often completely different from the ideas that dominated decades or centuries ago, when the surviving wooden dwellings were built. Therefore, it is an important job for engineers
