Loch Ness Monster Inglise keeles

Loch Ness Monster Nessie, a giant lake monster, supposedly inhabits Scotland 's Loch (Lake) Ness. Nessie is the world's best-known cryptozoological creature and has been sighted as far back as 656 AD. Nessie is described as being anywhere from twenty to forty feet long, with two humps, a tail and a snakelike head. Nessie's movements have been studied, and many films and photos analyzed, to determine what Nessie might be, if she exists. For the last seventy years or so, since she began receiving regular publicity, Nessie has been a major tourist attraction. There are numerous theories as to Nessie's identity, including a snake- like primitive whale known as a zeuglodon, a long-necked aquatic seal, giant eels, walruses, floating plants, giant molluscs, otters mirages and diving birds, but many lake monster, researchers seem to favour the plesiosaur theory. The case has occasionally been supported by indistinct ...

Avangardism

Avangardismi tekke eeldused: * Tehnika kiire areng (tegi võimalikuks elektronmuusika). * Regulaarsete muusikafestivalide ja heliloojate suvekursuste muutmine uue muusi...

The Archipelago Sea, between the Gulf of Bothnia and the Gulf of Finland, is the largest archipelago in the world by number of islands; estimates vary between 20,000 and 50,000. Similarly, Finland has a diverse and extensive range of fauna. There are at least sixty native mammalian species, 248 breeding bird species, over seventy fish species and eleven reptile and frog species present today, many migrating from neighbouring countries thousands of years ago. Large and widely recognised wildlife mammals found in Finland are the Brown Bear (the national animal), Gray Wolf, elk and reindeer. Other common mammals include the Red Fox, Red Squirrel, and Mountain Hare. Some rare and exotic species include the flying squirrel, Saimaa Ringed Seal and the Arctic fox, which is considered the most endangered.

Blandings Castle kokkuvõte

contemporaries and by modern writers. He has been called "English literature's performing flea", a derogatory description that Wodehouse cherished and adopted as the title of his autobiography. Best known today for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, Wodehouse was also a talented playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of fifteen plays and of 250 lyrics for some thirty musical comedies. Wodehouse took a modest attitude to his own works. In Over Seventy (1957) he wrote: "I go in for what is known in the trade as 'light writing' and those who do that humorists they are sometimes called are looked down upon by the intelligentsia and sneered at." Wodehouse's characters are often eccentric, with peculiar attachments, such as to newts (Gussie Fink-Nottle) or socks (Archibald Mulliner). His "mentally negligible" good-natured characters invariably make their lot worse by their half-witted (if that) schemes to improve a bad situation.

Muusika pärast II maailmasõda. Avangardism.

Muusika pärast II maailmasõda. Avangardism. *Elektronmuusika stuudiod tekkisid maailmas. Esimene stuudo rajati 1949. Pierre Schaeffer'i poolt Pariisi. *Darmstadt'is hakkasid toimuma suvekursused, kus tutvustati uu...

It is completly blind and only an inch or an inch a half long. It crawls into its mother's pouch and attaches itself to a nipple there. There it stays almost three months, when it begins to stick its head out. It is six months old before it is big and strong to leave the pouch. The biggest of the fifty diffrent kinds is the red kangaroo. They have big strong back legs and tails, and an adult can measure 2.4 metres high. They can jump more than four metres and travel at seventy kilometres an hour. Kangaroos eat grass and leaves and live in groups about twelve. Everyone loves the sleepy gray koalas. Like kangaroos, they have s pouch on their fronts for their babies. After six months there, baby koalas ride on their mother's back. They live in eucalyptus trees, sleeping for eighteen hours, and eating one kilo of leaves, each day. They drink almost nothing. The word koala means "no water." In the seas and rivers of northern Australia crocodiles can be found

Teaduslik revolutsioon

Forbidden Books and there it remained until 1757. Galileo was ordered to appear before the Inquisition at Rome. He awaited intervention by the Pope, his former friend, but it never came. He also believed, quite innocently, that he could show that Copernicanism was not in any direct opposition to Church dogma, However, as Galileo found out, what was at issue was not so much heliocentricity but authority. Galileo quickly realized what was at stake. The now seventy year old Galileo was interrogated relentlessly and threatened with torture. The Church had a strong defense it was clear that Galileo had violated the prohibition placed upon him in 1616. He could believe Copernican theory but not publicly defend it. To prove their position, the Church produced the forged minutes of Galileo's meeting with Cardinal Bellarmine in 1616. Unfortunately for Galileo, by 1632, Bellarmine was dead. The document produced by the Church was clearly forged

Islam

These disputes over religious and political leadership would give rise to schism in the Muslim community. The majority accepted the legitimacy of the three rulers prior to Ali, and became known as Sunnis. A minority disagreed, and believed that Ali was the only rightful successor; they became known as the Shi'a. After Mu'awiyah's death in 680, conflict over succession broke out again in a civil war known as the "Second Fitna". Afterward, the Umayyad dynasty prevailed for seventy years, and was able to conquer the Maghrib and AlAndalus (the Iberian Peninsula, former Visigothic Hispania) and the Narbonnese Gaul} in the west as well as expand Muslim territory into Sindh and the fringes of Central Asia. While the MuslimArab elite engaged in conquest, some devout Muslims began to question the piety of indulgence in a worldly life, emphasizing rather poverty, humility and avoidance of sin based on renunciation of bodily desires

Revolution. The Greeks and Romans had used it to reinforce stone pediments and columns in their temples and iron links had been forged by the Chinese and used in suspension bridges. The successful smelting of iron with coke, rather than charcoal, by English ironmaster Abraham Darby in 1709 freed iron production from fuel shortage restrictions, made large castings possible, and facilitated creation of the arch ribs for the world's first iron bridge, built seventy years later. In 1754, Henry Cort of Southampton (England) built the first rolling mill, making possible the efficient shaping of bar iron; in 1784 he patented a puddling furnace by means of which the carbon content in cast iron could be reduced to produce malleable iron. These two milestones of metallurgy realized the potential of iron as a major building material. Bridges were one of the first structural uses of

Energy - põhjalik referaat energiast

called a steam generator. A steam generator is a giant cylinder with thousands of tubes in it through which the hot radioactive water can flow. Outside the tubes in the steam generator, nonradioactive water (or clean water) boils and eventually turns to steam. The clean water may come from one of several sources: oceans, lakes or rivers. The radioactive water flows back to the reactor core, where it is reheated, only to flow back to the steam generator. Roughly seventy percent of the reactors operating in the U.S. are PWR. Nuclear reactors are basically machines that contain and control chain reactions, while releasing heat at a controlled rate. In electric power plants, the reactors supply the heat to turn water into steam, which drives the turbine-generators. The electricity travels through high voltage transmission lines and low voltage distribution lines to homes, schools, hospitals, factories, office buildings, rail systems and other users. 12

" I looked away from the cross to stare at him. "Why do you keep this here?" I wondered. "Nostalgia. It belonged to Carlisle's father." "He collected antiques?" I suggested doubtfully. "No. He carved this himself. It hung on the wall above the pulpit in the vicarage where he preached." I wasn't sure if my face betrayed my shock, but I returned to gazing at the simple, ancient cross, just in case. I quickly did the mental math; the cross was over three hundred and seventy years old. The silence stretched on as I struggled to wrap my mind around the concept of so many years. "Are you all right?" He sounded worried. "How old is Carlisle?" I asked quietly, ignoring his question, still staring up. "He just celebrated his three hundred and sixty-second birthday," Edward said. I looked back at him, a million questions in my eyes. He watched me carefully as he spoke. "Carlisle was born in London, in the sixteen-forties, he believes. Time wasn't marked as
