coarse ). c) General de Gaulle led the Free French Forces in the Second World war and later became the president of the French Fift Republic. He decided to end the war between France and Algeria, that of coarse meant that OAS was formed, the French Fist Republic was attempted to overthrow and he was attempted to kill. He just called more troops to his aid and most of them came. Important Generals connected to the OAS were imprisoned and the Algerian war was ended. d) Palestinian refugees became refugees when they decided to leave Israel in hopes that the Arabs would kill all the Jews in the war and they would once again be the only masters on their land. Things didn't go their way because the Arabs didn't defeat the Jews, quite the opposite actually happened and the Israelis didn't let the Palestinians return after the war was over so they had to remain as refugees in refugee camps. Many people still live in those refugee camps.

terrorism. On the other hand, the joining into the European Union brings some cons for country. Firstly, despite the poor state of the country, it has to help other Member State, if it has some kind of problem. Secondly, prices on food for example can grow up, because of despite the European Union has a single market. Moreover, it is a challenge for national identity, because there are a large number of refugees and immigrants, who brought with another culture and customs. Also, the country can lose skilled young workers, who go to another country to live and work. To sum up, the only reason the countries are entering the European Union is they feel it makes their country stronger and better economically. This union gives them a lot of benefits, but it is necessary to obey some EU laws.

Euroopas viibinud ligikaudu 11 miljoni sõjapõgeniku küsimuste lahendamisega tegelesid sõja ajal ning järel mitmesugused rahvusvahelised põgenikeorganisatsioonid. Neist kolm olulisemat on Valitsustevaheline Põgenike Komitee, Ühinenud Rahvaste Organisatsiooni Abistamise ja Rehabilitatsiooni Valitsus ning Rahvusvaheline Põgenike Organisatsioon. Valitsustevaheline Põgenike Komitee ( Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees IGCR) loodi 1938. aasta Eviani konverentsil.

Germans pillaged the country for the war effort and unleashed the Holocaust. Soviet forces reconquered Estonia in the autumn of 1944 after fierce battles in the northeast of the country on the Narva river and on the Tannenberg Line. Tens of thousands of people chose to eighter retreat together with the Germans or flee to Finland or Sweden, becoming war refugees and later, expatriates. The United States, United Kingdom and the majority of other western democracies considered the annexation of Estonia by USSR illegal. They retained diplomatic relations with the representatives of the independent Respublic of Estonia, never recognized Estonia as a legal constituent part of Soviet Union. Estonia's return to independence became possible as the Soviet Union ran into economic dufficulties as a consequence of the Cold War and began to disintegrate

Queen Mary I of England

Mary died at the age of 42 from cancer. She was succeeded by her half-sister Elizabeth I, who quickly undid many of Mary's changes, and returned England to its former Protestant-friendly environment. Most of Mary's bishops were loyal to her and refused to conform to the restored Protestantism. They died under house arrest. The new queen enabled the English refugees who had fled to Switzerland to eventually come home and begin printing the Protestant Geneva Bible in England.

Bazalgette's system is still in use today. As the capital of a massive empire, London became a magnet for immigrants from the colonies and poorer parts of Europe. A large Irish population settled in the city during the Victorian period, with many of the newcomers refugees from the Great Famine (1845-1849). oppose. The effectivity of the terrorist act lies not in the act itself, but in the public's or government's reaction to the act. For example, in 1972 at the Munich Olympics, the Black September Organization killed 11 Israelis. The Israelis were the immediate victims. But the true target was the estimated 1 billion people watching the Olympics from TV. The Black September Organization used the high popularity of the Olympics to show its views on the bad situation of the Palestinian refugees. Similarly, in October 1983, Middle Eastern terrorists bombed the Marine Battalion Landing Team Headquarters at Beirut International Airport. Their immediate victims were the 241 U.S. military men who were killed and over 100 others who were wounded. Their true target was the American people and the U.S. Congress. Their one act of violence influenced the U.S. decision to indicate the Marines from Beirut and it was therefore considered a terrorist success.

Links between Estonia and English speaking countries

Most English speaking countries never recognized Estonia's annexation in 1940. During the years of Soviet occupation the embassy in the United States continued its activities from 1940 to 1991. The US government recognised Estonia's diplomatic mission as the legal representative of the Republic of Estonia. This recognition of the legal continuity of the Republic of Estonia is nowadays seen as one of the cornerstones of Estonian-US relations. The occupation of Estonia and the migration of refugees from Estonia opened a new form of contacts. Many of the people who migrated from Estonia in fear of Soviets found a new home in one or another of the many English speaking countries. Nowadays there are large groups of Estonians living in Australia, USA and Canada. The area around Toronto in Canada has a strong Estonian minority. In the United States alone, according to the data collected in January 2006, 25,034 persons of Estonian ancestry lived.

of the world. Some came because of political or religious reasons, others to find a better way of life or an escape from poverty. Britain's predominant historical stock is called Anglo Saxons. They arrived in Britain in massive numbers between the 5th and the 7th century. These people tended to be tall, bland and blue eyed. Native Britons fought the great flood of Germanic people and many Britons who survived fled west to the hill country. The refugees were called Celts. Celts tended to be shorter than Anglo Saxons and they had rounder heads. Most had dark hair, but high percentage of Celts had red hair. A big number of Scandinavians raided and settled in Great Britain and Ireland during the 9th century. In 1066 the Normans, French speaking invaders conquered England, adding another ethnic component. The Normans were the last major group to add their stock to the British population.

This period was characterized by social turmoil and power disputes between left- and right-wing political forces. The retreat from the overseas territories and the acceptance of its independence terms by Portuguese head representatives for overseas negotiations, which would create independent states in 1975, prompted a mass exodus of Portuguese citizens from Portugal's African territories (mostly from Portuguese Angola and Mozambique). Over one million Portuguese refugees fled the former Portuguese provinces. Mário Soares and António de Almeida Santos were charged with organising the independence of Portugal's overseas territories. By 1975, all the Portuguese African territories were independent and Portugal held its first democratic elections in 50 years.
